Great video Clay on explaining the set up. I’d love to see a video on what all the buttons do for the various features of each engine in the Cab 3 app. As a noob I have no idea what a lot of the various functions buttons do besides controlling smoke output.
It certainly has improved layout. I could run my Lionel stuff as it was with Bluetooth, but my MTH stuff I still had to run conventionally (still waiting on the WTIU). Now that we have the Cab 3 app and Base 3 it makes it even more fun. Once more updates come for the app, some missing functionality will hopefully be added. Thanks for the comment and glad I was able to help ya gain some interest!
Make sure what you are trying to program is in SET mode. Depending on the model, for a steam engine the switch can be under one of the domes up top or under the engine. For my 2-8-0 it’s under the cab, but for the Dreyfuss it’s under some flaps on top of the engine. If it’s a diesel, there’s a really good chance the switches are underneath a removable cap on top of the engine. For the new SD70s it’s under the radiators while for the H-15s from a few years ago it’s under the fans up front. Once you’ve found the switch make sure it’s in the SET position. On the Cab 3 app hit the ENG button and enter in an ID for the engine. Most people use the road number of the engine for the engine id. So for example, if you’ve got a Big Boy, you could do an ID of 40, 14, or whatever you want, but most people choose the engine’s actual number to make it easier to remember. Once you choose an ID hit the “SET” button on the Cab 3 app and the engine should turn on. Put the engine back in “RUN” and you should be good to go.
@@southerneaglelines thanks I was referring to the app I mean. We both know this is a new system. I was able to figure it out today. I contacted Lionel and asked how I’d set the Legacy Polar Express set as a train. I preordered 6 add on cars One of them being station sounds diner car. I know how to link the engine and diner car through my cab 1L but I’m not sure how you’d do it on the cab3. On one of the steps on the manual, you’d have to press F to make engine acknowledge that it’s the lead engine
It’s on the same page as the wifi settings. Second orange button that says “Base Firmware Updater”. All Base3s should be on the latest version which should be 1.22.
I tried to trigger the n&w class a safety valves by holding down auxiliary 3 but that triggered the action record. How do I trigger the safety valves instead?
I don’t have a Class A, but maybe it’s under a menu now? Have you tried tapping the Aux 3 key? Maybe it opens up a new menu with the safety valve steam under it? On the control.lionel.com website it says Aux 3 is the right button so it could be under a menu.
When I hold it down the Action Record menu does come up. I don’t have an engine that takes advantage of the Aux 3 key, but when I tap it with my NS SD70ACE heritage unit, it does make a sound. Same for my custom Consolidation and Dreyfuss.
Well that depends on what settings you’re talking about. The Wifi settings are accessed by swiping down on the main screen of the app. Swiping up gets you to the engine configuration settings. Maybe that’s why it isn’t working. Make sure your engine is programmed as a LEGACY engine. Right now unless you have the LCS sensor track on your layout (I don’t as my layout is built from Ross track so I had to do this for every single Legacy item in my collection so far) you have to manually input everything. It’s not too tedious, but if you have a huge collection it could be a bit of a problem. Make sure the Engine type is set to “Steam”, Control type is set to “Legacy” and Sound type is set to “Legacy Rail Sounds”. ID, Road Name, and Road Number shouldn’t matter.
Carful when swipe up and accidentally hit the boost the engine will stick in full power and the app will bug out so the way to stop the engine is shut track power off so dangerous 😳🙄

I can make that happen! (Once I learn how to do it myself 😂 the more I use it the better I get with it)
I don't have experience with Lionel but a cool video. The base 3 has peaked my interest

What exactly do you hit? I’m trying to program my first Legacy set on it?

Do you know how to get to the control settings of the cab 3 app? To update and stuff.

I do not. Sorry. That’s on the list for me someday though!
