    I think until they can truly replace the Cab2 remote with a Cab3-ish REMOTE, there’s gonna be a true demand for the cab2

    Great video , i must say that i personally love the cab2 remote , not just the whistle slider but then you have the brake slider on the opposite side as well as the pressure sensitive brake boost direction button but the screen itself displays everything i need to see when programming , especially helpful when building a big consist or using sound cars with the trainlink . They should seriously consider a new version of cab2 for the base 3 a Tactile remote is still very beneficial
    The 4 I1s lashed up in your video are a perfect example of why that remote demands so much right now . Thanks for the shout out on the club , glad you and the guys enjoyed your visit .

    Another very thoughtful video on the base 3. Glad you are jumping in with us, I think you're right it is going to be a way for Lionel to add a lot of new features to our trains. Unlike you, I'm OK with an app, I think Lionel's app will have low system requirements so older phones will be OK. As you know I ordered the base 3 the day they announced it,can't wait for it to be here.

    The Base3 is going to need a dedicated controller to be completely successful IMO.

    Great video Mike. I feel the same about having a remote. I have used the app and it is cool, but I prefer a physical remote.

    I like the hand held remote myself. Maybe perhaps a updated hand held remote was a better option. The problem that I have is that companies today are making things that we will never truly own. The remote for example is ours and we own it. The app however is still Lionel and they have control over the app. Meaning they could eventually make you pay a fee for access to the app. That now becomes a product you now rent. Companies today are more focused on how to bleed money from people. New HP printers now are produced that limits you to 20 pages per month unless you pay a monthly fee. BMW makes you pay a monthly fee for access to your heated seats. It's crazy what manufacturers are doing and no one seems to get upset

    Nice video. I've made this comment on the new MTH control system, also. I think that they are cheapening-out. Instead of offering you a controller, they want you to clutter-up your phone with another app. They should offer a controller, similar to a new Android or I Phone, but just so you can operate through the new Base 3 or MTH system. I'm sure that these new systems will suck out battery power and what happens when you get a phone call? They need to offer a touch screen controller that goes with these new systems. This is just a cheapo way to have you use your phone and not to offer a decent control unit. Oy! 🤨🤔 An excellent video, as always.

      I think it is to attract the youngsters
      Kids all have phones
      I don't understand why it is so hard to produce a hand held for DCS/ legacy
      It's not like DCS/legacy is brand new technology

    We all waited for over a year and a half when the base 2 990 remote was released 20+ years ago.
    The nice thing with the base3 is you can use your cab-1L and the 990 remote.
    I personally was nor a fan of the smart phone at first.
    But after testing the phone actually found better control distance.
    I believe that in the future you will see a base3 remote.
    After taking with Dave and Ryan it's something they are considering to do.

    Excellent video Mike! I definitely prefer a physical controller over a phone like you, but still super excited to see what the cab 3 holds in store. Keep up the good work!!

    Hey Mike great video got into the hobby as a conventional operator growing with the hobby and the kinda thrown into the blue tooth side of things never had a cab1 or cab2 so kinda looking forward to the future of the base 3

    I'm very excited for the Base 3! I pre-ordered back in March of 2022...patiently waiting. I think I will be using a mix of my Cab 1L remote and the app. Cab 1 and 1L are kinda the lite versions so the cab 3 app will have all the legacy features. Great video!!

      We're still on CAB-1/Base-1. Just like he has there. Maybe I'll get an extra used Cab-1 just in case.

      Unless you’ve got a good number of older Lionchief engines that can’t use the Legacy controls, yeah there’s not much of a big reason to upgrade to Base3.

    I'm still incredibly salty on how atrocious it is finding new Cab 2 remotes.
    They are _so_ hard to find these days and I'm graceful mine even still works cause when it goes out I'm boned!

    • @Dadified86
      @Dadified86  5 дней назад

      Yeah if it weren’t for the quilling feature the CAB-1L has, I’d be trying to find a CAB2. It’s a shame the parts are out of production but they did base it on some already old tech to begin with.

    Nice video Mike. I enjoy using my Cab 2 and DCS remote when running my trains. I have the wireless systems as well but prefer the remotes. Both MTH and Lionel need to develop a handheld remote that integrates with your smartphone. This would satisfy both sides.

    TY, I'm still confused about what you can operate and what you can't and what controller. Older guy here, I left the hobby and came back to feeling like I just entered the Jetsons with these new model trains and sounds. But I'll catch up, just being cautious about what I buy and what I will need to make go around the track.

    • @Dadified86
      @Dadified86  2 месяца назад

      There’s a lot of that happening! No worries at all. If you want an easy way back in, just find out what your favorite new engine needs and chances are it’ll either work off of BlueTooth control or at least work with a Universal Remote. If you want you can run em by me and I can help!

    Hi Mike, I do understand your thoughts on the move from handhelds to apps. I, however, am a fan of the apps and use these - MTH and Lionel - as my primary operating tool. When I started to get back into running my O Gauge trains I started to migrate from the conventional world into the command control environment. I wasn't all that thrilled with taking money from my train account to buy technology but I did. I started with MTH's DCS and began using the MTH app early on. I never owned one of their handheld units so my learning was app based. I have had not real issues although I did need to upgrade my iPad since the old one became "obsolete" and wasn't keeping up with the upgrades needed for the app (just as you point out). I am comfortable with the technology and have just accepted it as the norm. And by the way, I'm in my 70's and enjoy learning new technology. Keep running those trains that's what's important in the end.

      As it stands only about 5 of my engines have BlueTooth. The rest are older Legacy, TMCC, and basic Lionchief. So the app wasn’t super useful, especially when we were starting out. Lots of secondhand engines too old to use the app

  • @williamkolina3988
    @williamkolina3988 2 месяца назад +1

    Amen
    I love my TMCC system
    Maybe I am dense/stupid,but even LEGACY doesn't seem to make much difference to me
    I am not really a fan of the lion chief app
    I personally believe the whole phone/tablet thing is for the younger generation
    Kids are natural with a phone
    You can run conventional engines with a power master
    6-12867 if I recall correctly
    I use it for my non command and MTH engines
    I don't have a dcs

    • @Dadified86
      @Dadified86  2 месяца назад

      Yeah just found out recently with the powermaster on command / conventional. Really helped when I found that 2-8-8-0 Bull Moose two weeks ago!!

    I just don't see the base 3 being that good. It doesn't change a thing. Cab 2 is the King. my grandson loves the cab 2 I have DCS on my layout as well and its on wifi and tablet he doesn't care for it so he just runs my lionel stuff.

    • @Dadified86
      @Dadified86  2 месяца назад +1

      In my case, the Base3 is cheaper (even while also buying a separate remote to use for it) than a used CAB2 and base. The Base3 can also allow me to control my other LionChief engines along with TMCC and Legacy all from one remote. Were it not for our Lionchief engines I would have less or a reason to get it.
