Nice collection of woodsides, that diesel looks awesome!
Thanks! 3rd Rail made it. Apparently out of all the E7s they did in their last run, only 6 were done in the COG scheme. I have two of those six.
Great video of your grandfather recounting the history of your family train. Thanks for sharing it, Clay.
Nicely done.
Nice video, very interested in the PS3 upgrade. My experience with the WTIU ( my first DCS ) is to use a computer (or something with a real keyboard ) to setup the WIFI with LUCI, as my tablet keyboard slipped a space into the wifi password when I typed it in, which I didn't find till I reopened LUCI on my laptop.
I’ll definitely be sure to do an upgrade video! Have a few candidates lined up for PS3.
What size curves and table is that? Fantastic setup!
Thanks! Table is seven foot by twelve foot. Outer curve is O-64, inner curve is O-54. Track is Ross track.
@@southerneaglelines Thanks for the quick reply! I'm interested in that train (thats how I found your channel). The Lionel literature says it runs on a minimum of 031 curves, I assume Lionel Fastrack. I want to run it on a 4x8 layout with 036 curves. You have a huge setup! I need that kind of space because I eventually want to run 054 curves in fastrack with bigger Lionel Legacy trains. Keep up the good work!
@ Thank you! Yeah you should have no issues running on O31. The trucks rotate pretty freely. They made two numbers 101 and 102. I want to get the other number at some point in the future. The COG had 5 originally (101-105).
@ Thanks for that information. I appreciate it!
youtube randomly gave me this video in my recommendations, and i thought this video will be about some computer/server device, but not about train models
Well, you’re not exactly wrong 😅 there’s a little bit of technical stuff here. Model trains have come a long way over the last decade or so.
nice video. sounds like you had a busy year
Certainly busier than I expected! Hoping I can make it out to October York again!
Hey, Clay, how did your #billbsholidayboxcarchallenge2024 video get by me, Bill B. I cannot answer that, but I sure am glad I saw it first thing this morning. That River Street Rambler paint scheme is very sharp. Awesome string of box cars, Clay, my favorite car was the 50' double door lettered for the Southern Eagle Lines. Very nice! Man, another 1/4" and you could have coupled that switcher to the tail end of your trains last car, sweet! Thank you for participating in this year's challenge. You can now declare to anyone who will listen this early in the morning, "Bill B., I did it!" I hope your Christmas was enjoyable and that you have a Happy New Year! Bill
Thanks Bill! I was a little late to the party! Filmed it yesterday! That switcher used to run up and down River Street in Savannah about 45 minutes from where I live! It hasn’t done so for quite some time now, but someday I want to update the sound file on the engine to include some references to River Street! Hope you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I want one!
Great find on the River Street switcher and glad I was able to meet you at York! Hoping someone will make the GE 44 tonner from the Georgia State Railroad Museum someday...
I’m trying to get someone to do it! Maybe if Lionel does them I can get Legacy Station to do it! They’re already interested in doing the small steam switcher they have at the museum!
Great finds. I never knew about that scavenger hunt thing. I'll look out for that this spring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
OUTSTANDING! I love it👍👍❤️🔥🔥
Bro he got his land legs 🦵. Out here on there street like I knew the track was over here somewhere ⚡️
Just subscribed to your channel. Nice Running Session. I have a RUclips Channel also👍🔥🙏❤️💪🇺🇸
@@RABSTRAINS yeah! I subbed during one of Zac’s streams!
Nice
What exactly do you hit? I’m trying to program my first Legacy set on it?
Make sure what you are trying to program is in SET mode. Depending on the model, for a steam engine the switch can be under one of the domes up top or under the engine. For my 2-8-0 it’s under the cab, but for the Dreyfuss it’s under some flaps on top of the engine. If it’s a diesel, there’s a really good chance the switches are underneath a removable cap on top of the engine. For the new SD70s it’s under the radiators while for the H-15s from a few years ago it’s under the fans up front. Once you’ve found the switch make sure it’s in the SET position. On the Cab 3 app hit the ENG button and enter in an ID for the engine. Most people use the road number of the engine for the engine id. So for example, if you’ve got a Big Boy, you could do an ID of 40, 14, or whatever you want, but most people choose the engine’s actual number to make it easier to remember. Once you choose an ID hit the “SET” button on the Cab 3 app and the engine should turn on. Put the engine back in “RUN” and you should be good to go.
@@southerneaglelines thanks I was referring to the app I mean. We both know this is a new system. I was able to figure it out today. I contacted Lionel and asked how I’d set the Legacy Polar Express set as a train. I preordered 6 add on cars One of them being station sounds diner car. I know how to link the engine and diner car through my cab 1L but I’m not sure how you’d do it on the cab3. On one of the steps on the manual, you’d have to press F to make engine acknowledge that it’s the lead engine
I just bought one at a flea market for $40. Did you have a tutorial on how you fixed it? Were some of the ribbon contacts burned.
For me it was the rear motor. Everything else was fine. I was at a point where I wasn’t quite comfortable working on the motors so I cut it out completely. I still have it and I could probably put it back or just get a new one now. I’m much more comfortable now working on stuff than I was then.
Do you know how to get to the control settings of the cab 3 app? To update and stuff.
It’s on the same page as the wifi settings. Second orange button that says “Base Firmware Updater”. All Base3s should be on the latest version which should be 1.22.
It’s just unforgivable that Lionel managed to get the paint so wrong with so many colour photos and films from the 1940’s available. The pilot truck looks so awful too. You would think that for $1800.00 USD you would have a perfect model? The TMCC version was a better model.
How do I get to Cab 3 settings
Well that depends on what settings you’re talking about. The Wifi settings are accessed by swiping down on the main screen of the app. Swiping up gets you to the engine configuration settings. Maybe that’s why it isn’t working. Make sure your engine is programmed as a LEGACY engine. Right now unless you have the LCS sensor track on your layout (I don’t as my layout is built from Ross track so I had to do this for every single Legacy item in my collection so far) you have to manually input everything. It’s not too tedious, but if you have a huge collection it could be a bit of a problem. Make sure the Engine type is set to “Steam”, Control type is set to “Legacy” and Sound type is set to “Legacy Rail Sounds”. ID, Road Name, and Road Number shouldn’t matter.
I grew up with Lionel, never buy their Chinese junk now
Over priced chinese junk
I tried to trigger the n&w class a safety valves by holding down auxiliary 3 but that triggered the action record. How do I trigger the safety valves instead?
I don’t have a Class A, but maybe it’s under a menu now? Have you tried tapping the Aux 3 key? Maybe it opens up a new menu with the safety valve steam under it? On the control.lionel.com website it says Aux 3 is the right button so it could be under a menu.
@southerneaglelines Do you have an engine with safety valve steam or cylinder steam?
I do not. Sorry. That’s on the list for me someday though!
@@southerneaglelines Can you hold down aux 3 and see what happens?
When I hold it down the Action Record menu does come up. I don’t have an engine that takes advantage of the Aux 3 key, but when I tap it with my NS SD70ACE heritage unit, it does make a sound. Same for my custom Consolidation and Dreyfuss.
I don't have experience with Lionel but a cool video. The base 3 has peaked my interest
It certainly has improved layout. I could run my Lionel stuff as it was with Bluetooth, but my MTH stuff I still had to run conventionally (still waiting on the WTIU). Now that we have the Cab 3 app and Base 3 it makes it even more fun. Once more updates come for the app, some missing functionality will hopefully be added. Thanks for the comment and glad I was able to help ya gain some interest!
Carful when swipe up and accidentally hit the boost the engine will stick in full power and the app will bug out so the way to stop the engine is shut track power off so dangerous 😳🙄
Yup.
Great video Clay on explaining the set up. I’d love to see a video on what all the buttons do for the various features of each engine in the Cab 3 app. As a noob I have no idea what a lot of the various functions buttons do besides controlling smoke output.
I can make that happen! (Once I learn how to do it myself 😂 the more I use it the better I get with it)
I like the Savannah and Atlanta SD70 since I have family in Savannah. Also the Seaboard Mountain steam engine, but would have to see the colors first before I bought that one.
The Mountains should be pretty cool. Are you hoping for something close to the Western Pacific 2-8-8-2s that Lionel did a few years ago or something a little darker colored?
@@southerneaglelines Closer to Western Pacific, wanting that color on the boiler to not be too bright.
This is nice!
Thanks!
What company was your train that you drive around made?
It’s custom built. The chassis is from an old school bus. The shell is from an old SCL/Family Lines switch engine.
Which building are you in? What was it used for ?
Normally the museum lets us set in the old tender repair shop, but this time they let us set up in the much larger blacksmith shop!
I would have loved to see that shop in action back in the day .
Do you runs yours with smoke I just got my New York Central heritage unit and the smoke doesn't work
Mine does. How do you run it? Do you use Legacy/Bluetooth or do you run it conventional? Make sure the switch under the fans in the back is turned on and if you can, turn the sounds all the way down and if the fan itself is on, you should hear it spinning.
Also, make sure the feature is enabled in whatever form of command control form you are using.
@@southerneaglelines thanks for the tips I run it with TMCC
No problem! Hope it helps!
I love choog
Yes. Much choog.
So what's happening with the locomotive now?
Well it’s made one or two appearances at career days, and birthday parties for kids around town, but it’s in need of a repaint and a tune up. My grandpa and I are talking about paint schemes right now. I kinda want to keep it Santa Fe, but want it to be a little more prototypical. But we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the question!
Outstanding!
Thanks!
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
VERY COOL AND GOOD THANK YOU JIM K FROM PHILY WAY.❤
Very nice 😊
I'm going 2 1 tomorrow same time
That locomotive needs a bath
Thanks for taking us to the Jacksonville train show with you (through this video)! Really cool to see everything they had there. Side note: really enjoying your video editing too! Love the little blooper moments you include in the video, like the cough and the locked door.
Thanks! Bryan edits the train show videos, I do the rest of them. His camera and mics are better so we use his stuff for the shows.
Hey this Train Show video showed more of the large Scales then HO and N scales trains I was kind a hoping to see more N scale and HO but it was not to be I would like this video if it where to show more N scale and HO gauges hey did you know that HO and N scale Trains are the most populer trains on the market but thanks again for showing us the video of the trains on the layouts thanks again
Thanks for the comment!
This show looks bigger than the last one. I saw a lot of stuff I would like to have!
It was a fun show!
765 called! She wants her whistle back!
What a beautiful locomotive! My favorite was the slow moving shot incredible!! 👍😎💯
Thanks! I wanted to make sure I included that!

I LOve Hudsons.
We have the 5454 and it’s such an incredible locomotive
I wanted one with the water scoop effect, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to run it with my curves… 😅
Nice boxcars Clay.
