    What a fascinating guest with such great insight into the current events. I wish there were more time to ask Dr. Ashour why he thinks the U.S. is asking for a huge aide package for Isreal and why we sent not one but three carrier groups to the Middle East? Isreal doesn't need help in fighting Hamas. Isreal has one of the best militaries in the world. Ukraine is struggling and we send dribs and drabs of aide. Makes no sense to me. Russia is clearly the bigger threat, I wish we would treat it as such.

    The failure of the United States to deliever ATACMS and a large portion of pledged armored vehicles before the Ukrainian Offensive was a complete mistake. Not to mention the months between Ukrainian victories in September-November to finally start receiving western Vehicles on mass in February and March. Totally shameful. Hopefully next year we'll bring some hope for the wareffort because this year wasn't so good 😢. The longer this drags out the harder it will become and the US doesn't seem commited to securing a total Ukrainian victory.

      It's so fucking frustrating it's unreal. Ben Hodges spoke about how the US needs to make clear goals for what they want aid to achieve and work toward it otherwise they will end up in a much worse situation like they did with Afghanistan but far worse.

    • @MultiAxisDiscipline
      @MultiAxisDiscipline Год назад +3

      @@brookwhiteman9810 The Ukraine situation is the reverse of Afghanistan. In Afghanistan the allied democratic nations were attempting to develop a democratic government system for Afghanistan, literally changing the existing citizen's culture and traditions for a new, better reality (we/they thought)
      In Ukraine the western democracies are not trying to change Ukraine government, or society, they are helping Ukraine citizens and society to defend their homeland, and sovereign nation. The western democracies are working with the "home team" in near perfect harmony. This is naturally much more likely to succeed, as it is with the Ukraine people, rather than contrary to the Afghanistan people

    • @brookwhiteman9810
      @brookwhiteman9810 Год назад +3

      @@MultiAxisDiscipline yes I know that but I should have elaborated. When I said that this is like Afghanistan I meant that it's similar to Afghanistan because there was not clear cut goals that had been set for the campaign to reach and it's the same as Ukraine now in that NATO is helping Ukraine but they have no short and long term goals set in stone for aid to achieve where Ukraine has said that their final goal is to return Crimea........be it extremely far away.

    Fantastic and insightful commentary from Professor Ashour. I agree with everything he has said. However, I think there is one topic which is actually far simpler than the explanation he gave: the question of "what does Ukraine need to win."
    The answer to this question is that, the Western powers, and as many other powers as possible, need to recognize that Ukraine failing to win, i.e., to push Putin's hordes out of ALL of Ukraine, is simply an unacceptable long-term geopolitical outcome for them.
    The means of Ukraine winning are myriad and it is perhaps misleading to attempt to catalogue the possibilities in terms of capabilities, much less specific weapons systems, doctrines or operations. Fundamentally, what is needed is for the West to become absolutely committed to Ukraine winning. Once that commitment is made fully, the material means to win will be provided and Ukrainian valor and resolve will do the job.

Ukraine needs a plan that doesn't require support from the west because it just isn't going to come. At least not in the degree that Ukraine needs for victory.

    • @MultiAxisDiscipline

      The moment that Ukraine was illegally invaded by the Russian Federation military, the UAF was not very capable, not very multifaceted, and not very well equipped.
      Ukraine will need support until they have a good base of all combined operations available to draw upon. The introduction of the F16's early in 2024 will help with this aspect that they are currently very deficient in comparison with the Russian Federation. Ukraine naval capability remains fairly non-existent, but they have developed some effectiveness in dealing with the Russian Federation's armed ships, and troop carriers.
      By next summer, there may be enough of a complete military capability for Ukraine to not require much beyond helping out with ammunition ordinance, some ongoing training for troops, pilots, and maintenance/repair infrastructure to service their hardware. Probably end up only requiring about 20% of the support that they have needed to get their military outfitted, equipped, and trained up to this point.

    I think this interview missed the point of how Ukraine needs to win. In my opinion what needed for a convincing win is a good technology break through specifically in drone usage. Ukraine needs all type of drones, short range, long range, mother ships, signal repeater, multi channel switcher, jammer, mine detectors, even drone deminer. Fully automatic driverless tanks. Reliable drones that is not prone to failure from eletronic war fare. If there is a technology to reliably detect tank mines I think that is a game changer. Drones can help to mark mine fields for demining. Lastly there need to be a break through on how to demine the entire field reliably using cluster bombs. Those that cannot be demine can be marked by spotter drones from air and avoided. Hence a few seconds before an attack, an area can be quickly demine for the assualt group to attack with confidence so that enemy does not have the time to reinforce that area. And of course what is mention in this video helps. ATACMS, air superiority. But I think Ukraine need an edge to tip the scales. Drone, machines, artillery strikes and together with soldiers,it must be able to execute complex combine arms movement. for this It must be trained hard. I think Ukraine is doing it correctly now but it can do more with western technology and good luck.

    An organisstion of supportive nato and other countries needs to be setup (i.e keep idiots like Orban out), just to focus on ukraine and most importantly setup a long term funding plan for ukraine through that org., not just randomly granting funding all over the place. It takes centralised forward planning, this is how the world war 1 deadlock was broken on the western front- in the ally'/entente's summer 1918 counter-attack planning and organisation was all gathered up under General Foche with various allies now serving the main central strategy rather than their own seperate plans and offensives. Successful weapons were shared around and sent on a regular basis (tanks and planes) to allow for accurate tactical and logistical planning months ahead. This same idea can be followed even with neutral but ukraine supportive countries now.
    Also, ukraine needs to massively up their own industry. They have the factories, the tradition of weapons industry and international support. If they can start putting out their own military vehicles at a much faster rate, with women and older men as workers, it will help a huge amount. They could even put their factories abroad away from ukraine, so out of danger.
    NATO need to stop messing around and send the F16s (replace them with F35s) and consider eurofighters (hugely underrated multirole aircraft which exist in large numbers)
    Finally, Ukraine's strategy of splitting russian forces in half in the South east Melitopol region needs to continue to be persued, but also direct smaller attacks towards places like crimea, with a larger reserve ready follow up & to hit somewhere else soon after when russia sends their own reserves to defend crimea & is off balance. Balance (or lack of it) was how russia was absolutely routed in the 2022 Kharkiv offensive.
    Train and carry out more partisan warfare.
    Carry on with ukraines suprisingly huge success against the russian black sea fleet. The black sea behind russian western forces is their brittle spine, and Russia's naval incompetence is legendary. Bring on the drone subs or whatever. Surely there are some great unmanned submarine craft out there which can cause the sort of menace German U-boats did in both world wars, but aiming for naval superiority in this case rather than mainly trying to interdict military supplies & starve a country to surrender.
