    Ah, my friend, you've done it now... My wife was looking over my shoulder as I watched this, and said "You should make one of those for us". Which translates to "You need to make one for *me*. Very soon." :-) Clyde

    I dreamed last night about making a lamp shade and here I found your video today. Brilliant. However, I have a suggestion. Instead of parting it off I would leave the top intact and cut a frame in the top with a jig saw to take the hanging mechanism. One day I hope to have a lathe like yours. Cheers - Montana Wood Art.

    lol , the sound of the cars passing by in the background when you are in high speed sound like formula one cars ! and when your dog whines ... it sounds like you are sending subliminal messages ! 11/10 ... cant stop watching !

    Hi, Simon
    I have two question to you:
    - how do you dry your woody lamps, because I didn't see any so big micro?
    - why don't you use outer light for thickness control under wood turning process?

    • @simongadoury3244
      @simongadoury3244  7 лет назад +1

      +Oleksandr Brovko Hi , i let them dry by air in my house . And yes i use light now .

    Hi Simon, I love watching your work. When I saw you doing this lampshade and several other end grain projects, I was wondering if you have seen Andre Martel's hook tool. He uses it for making lampshades and it looks like something that you would enjoy using as well. You can see him on RUclips under Le Crochet Martel. I also enjoyed watching you turn the walnut ring for your sister. Thanks, Tina

      +Tina Minahan Hi Tina, thanks a lot for taking your time to wrote me this great comment. Are you from quebec ?
      Andre Martel is the worst man I'll talk with in my life I think . It's a big story .... I don't want anything from him...

      SG Art Turning hi Simon, no I live in Saint Augustine Florida. I don't know Andre but I have enjoyed watching the wood fly out of his lathe on RUclips. I bought the hook tool from Weidemann hook tool in Europe and have enjoyed using it. Keep turning and videoing. I certainly enjoy watching it. Tina

    Really nice work. I get lost watching your videos. Just curious if the shade warped at all when drying? I have some ash that I would like to give this a try with. Not such a diameter but same idea.

    • @simongadoury3244
      @simongadoury3244  7 лет назад

      +Erik Snell Hi Erik , thanks . Yes it warp but you can fix it after. You wet your wood and place like a bowl or something round inside . And let it dry again . It work fine

    I've been doing a lot of spalted beech to make bowls. It's nice stuff. But I tried to make a hollow form with a whole log (a bucket) and after drying 2 days it went pop and split in half. Beech likes to split even the bowls do it a lot. Did this split on you later?

    • @simongadoury3244
      @simongadoury3244  7 лет назад

      +Robert Schuster Yes it warp and I got a Crack to :(

    • @RPSchonherr
      @RPSchonherr 7 лет назад +2

      Yep. Beech. Sometimes as I'm working with wet beech it cracks while I'm turning because it dries faster. Beech makes great tool handles though. I've made a couple dozen bowls with spalted beech and about 35% cracked no mater how thick or thin they were.
