One of the biggest things I never thought about as a content creator until now is how important a great video idea can impact a video's performance. Ever since Jenny started going on these podcasts and explaining how and why the video idea is super important, it's really helped me understand this concept: The video idea, title, and thumbnail are like a cereal box. If your box isn't grabbing people's attention, something they recognize, isn't evoking a psychological response, then people won't buy your cereal regardless of how good the cereal on the inside actually is.
I've just read the RUclips formula and I've been watching her and immediately knew that she's learning from you, and I love how she explains things. She super intelligent!!!!
She is really sharp. It’s incredible that at 17 years old she had the awareness & ability to spend $6k on a mentor. I checked out some of her shorts. Her storytelling ability is incredible. And like Derral said: She understands the mental mechanism behind the effects of storytelling. Derral & Justin thank you for showing us this talented young superstar.
I just purchased the book tonight, I can't wait to read it, and I can't wait to bring my dying channel back to life, thanks for all of your great work Derral, you are so appreciated...
Hey Derral!!! Your book is the truth and the real deal. Dr. Myron Golden referred your book and I haven't put it down. I'm halfway through it, but I can't wait to get started with my RUclips channel! I'll keep you posted and thanks again!
One of the best interviews I've seen Derral. Thank you for having Jenny on to share her journey and what she learned from you. The storytelling bit at 47:00 was very eye opening for me and I will start to incorporate in my videos. THANKS!
Yes...I'm not on the live now, but IN my LIMITED experience I have spent at least 3-12 hours on the topics; I was an advertising executive for many years...and essentially, video shorts are "comedy commercials" or "message commercials" beginning, middle, twist, and the end" ... and most audiences are NOT going to go past 15 seconds without a strong hook or music or the "emotional hook" of "comedy" driving toward a specific anticipated outcome and/or a SURPRISE ending---crescendo! Another way to do this is to MAYBE might be to study "commercials" and the art of the 30 or 60 spot... FYI...ps: a difficult thing about RUclips can also be it's usually a SOLO adventure or a small team at first and when we don't have a "crew" we need to learn to streamline without these elements....
Love the video! But can you please next time when your guest talk, let her talk until the end, because when I really listen to what is Jenny trying to explaining her experience with such enthusiasm...then you cut/ interrupt her... and you bring it back to your mentoring program theory. Then she didn't continue the important part that she could have shared. I don't say it's bad, but I think it's good to practice active listening and just let her finish her words please! Anyway, I just subscribed to your channel ^^
The validation conversation is very interesting. An award-winning content creator told me before the production process ever begins, research, research, research.
Thanks for the video and conversation! I see a lot of Jenny's subscribers and views are coming from her success on RUclips Shorts. Can everyone share more about how they are using Shorts in an effective and sustainable way to support their channel and mission? I have a few channels that have between 150k and 500k subscribers, but on all of them, I remain unsure how to best use Shorts. On one channel I've been able to attain some viral shorts with 20 million plus views on multiple shorts, but have not seen an increase in real quality engagement or AdSense revenue or anything that would help make the channel sustainable. If anyone out there has insight on the diverse way to use Shorts as a real part of their business I would be very interested to hear it.
On another channel I have I have a RUclips short with 30 million plus views that only earned $350 in ad sense. It brought in subscribers but I didn't see an increase in real engagement in the long-form content or engagement overall. The other channel's content is not based on building myself personally as a brand but is entertainment content so I'm struggling with being able to justify pursuing Shorts on that channel. What has others experiences been.
Amazing interview. Thanks to both of you for sharing. My only suggestion for future videos is to not hide the “estimated earnings”. It’s a very important metric to us your audience who want to have an idea of how much revenue we can bring in if he apply the advice given. Thank you.
Amazing work I can vouch that Derrals system works I went from 100k subs to almost 400k in only 3 months and not only the subs but he helped me really understand who my audience is. When I first started my long form sucked now I have huge views highest to date is 900k views. Thank you Derral for all your help.
amazing interview! I loved how you both dove deep into analytics, avatars, target audiences, and what structures to follow. I would LOVE to sit down with you one day and inquire about the mentorship program!
I do that with Long form too. The record, edit video and thumbnail, post at the end of the day. My top video at the moment has 100k views. I got lucky with it or... It was the video that came along after I had been posting other tech focused videos. I was just tired that day and didn't really care about what I posted. I ended up somehow posting about a hot topic, decent thumbnail, and title. I was the result of posting a series of mediocre videos before that one. Just got lucky. Most my vids get maybe 5 to 10k at best.
I need your help but i am in kpop youtube sector but ive been consistently uploading for over 2years and just now hit 1k a couple days ago. Its crazy how well jenny grew
There is no sustainable business when the host of the entire content base can shut down and delete the entire channel and content on a whim. That is a huge gamble, I sure hope successful RUclipsrs are saving and investing in other markets for that day RUclips has a megalomania moment and hits the “FLUSH YOUR LIFE” button.
Even though I think RUclips is a great platform... and you can get your message out there and help a lot of people... I agree with Jon. I'm planning on gathering e-mail addresses as I proceed to start over making RUclips videos. :0) Putting your eggs in numerous baskets is wise.
That’s why your content should be backed up. If RUclips pulls the plug, Upload the content to Vimeo, or whatever new platform takes it place. Also, the same content can be repurposed into a book and sold on a number of different platforms. NEVER depend on one outlet.
editing for 30 hours -- does that include the production time as well? i've noticed her bROLL consist of her traveling to the grocery store and filming at multiple locations.
OMG you tell best questions ever! Really! I'm whatch much Interview about RUclips and RUclipsrs, you are the best! Ps1: I Love your book you awsome! Ps2: Im from Brazil and my english it's bad
@20:57 the amount of milisecond text splashes that show up with laser guided placement... I was watching that the other day hoping to catch her shortcuts in THIS video, but NOPE, it is just as I suspected... that stuff takes FOREVER and LOOKS fantastic! Me and my boys chain watched her shorts WAY past bedtime last night and loved it!
I like the idea of zeroing in on your viewer target audience. That makes a lot of sense for getting consistent views. But won't you also get some unique opportunities for virality by going broader on some videos?
Love Derral interviews. And would love to hear from all you guys out there: IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF VIDEOS (or months) BEFORE THE ALGORITHM STARTS PAYING ATTENTION TO YOU?
Mobile tech is my channel, and it seems to not interest me enough. Otherwise I would be posting. I do lawn care for a living. Maybe I should start posting that work...
Can I ask why every tip is ONLY focused on you tubers who show their face. what about all the dope channels that are faceless? eg Magnatesmedia is one of the best documentary creators on RUclips! Never here any advice on this type of channel
Very cool but i don't understand the 3 month thing and the scripts bla bla cuz bros! I only film or upload when I'm having fun or feeling good and it's always on the fly. Preparing & wondering if it will work, ain't the business for me
The information is gold but Derrel is soo long winded. It's like he's trying to get the interviewee to answer in a specific way so he can make his point. Feels a little forced but I'm still watching. Jesus
She has only 79 videos, the three I watched a 6 year old could have put together. I am not seeing why $3 dollar buritos with 1200 views is gaining anywhere near her subs..... Just sayin.

Thank you to both, interviewer and interviewee, for making this +1 hour long.
.
When it comes to learning useful things, the cost is worth it.
I've just read the RUclips formula and I've been watching her and immediately knew that she's learning from you, and I love how she explains things. She super intelligent!!!!
AMAZING!!! Graduating early with a tutor is an incredible idea for a full time young youtuber
Jenny the Goat

Yes, always grow social channels with the goal of moving them to your email list 💪

Stop using your faith backwards
Or just don’t live in fear of the “what if” be ready to adapt but choose a lane and run with it
Getting a lot of great information.
Amazing how you guys achieve it so fast . Congratulations 👏
30:42 such an ingenious move...
New here. Looking to learn and make history Derral. Thank you to you both.
This was so helpful!

Tried signing up for creator challenge. Link doesn't seem to be working. Tried on mobile, desktop, different browser and screen stays the same
Can we please have a link for her channel? Thanks 😊
She's @JennyHoyosLOL 🤗 (lol is part of her handle.)
What is the avatar ? I’m confused on that
It’s crazy cause she was on the same cohort on creator now
EXCELLENT advice and teaching!!! You both are AWESOME and so specific! So gooooood! Thank you!!!

How can I get you to mentor me
What does jump start cost?
Love Derral interviews. And would love to hear from all you guys out there:
IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF VIDEOS (or months) BEFORE THE ALGORITHM STARTS PAYING ATTENTION TO YOU?
Yes, 12 hours of editing is NOT unusual for 30 seconds in terms of video...radio, tv, streaming....
My niche is losing weight and vegan cakes❤
Mobile tech is my channel, and it seems to not interest me enough. Otherwise I would be posting. I do lawn care for a living. Maybe I should start posting that work...

I thought only Aussies say rooly ☺️
Very cool but i don't understand the 3 month thing and the scripts bla bla cuz bros! I only film or upload when I'm having fun or feeling good and it's always on the fly. Preparing & wondering if it will work, ain't the business for me
Bullet point words.
Dont talk more than the person you interview - she should've interviewed you. For every min she talked, you talked 5 mins.
The information is gold but Derrel is soo long winded. It's like he's trying to get the interviewee to answer in a specific way so he can make his point. Feels a little forced but I'm still watching. Jesus
hahaha... My Mom always said I try to explain to much...
@@derraleves No worries I'm the exact same way.
Podcast infomercial. Subtle but no thanks! I'd rather talk to the Jehovah witnesses who knock on my door then watch this garbage.
Its easy to buy fake views 🤷♂️
She has only 79 videos, the three I watched a 6 year old could have put together. I am not seeing why $3 dollar buritos with 1200 views is gaining anywhere near her subs..... Just sayin.
She has over a half a billion views.
Shorts.
Too long questions from the interviewer! makes it boring...
Love this and so much valuable tips/info! @jennyhoyos rocks!
