I will say, i do believe Jack Black's statement. Yeah one could make the argument that since he laughed at the comment, his statement can come off as disingenuous, but people do laugh when they're nervous, or shocked by what happens, especially if its to relieve the tension. I believe that this is what Jack Black did. After the comment was made, he laughed to ease the tension or maybe because he may have felt nervous.

I have no idea if he meant it or not, but it was clearly said in a jokingly context. They are a comedy band after all, that´s their brand.
However, considering that just happened the very same day, not to mention it was an actual tragedy considering people did lose their lives, I concede the joke was in poor taste. Not to mention I´m sure they´re aware that they are a big band, people have access to recording shows, and anything can be easily spread across the internet. Kyle probably didn´t take that into consideration.
Nonetheless, the reaction is expected but way too exaggerated, IMO. A bad joke taking down a 30 year old band who has accumulated a massive fanbase would suck. Especially because they´ve done great things over the years. Jack will be fine, hope the same can be said for Kyle. The statements are PR movements for sure.

Here’s my take; people don’t need to post everything on the internet. It happened in Australia, some of the audience took it as a joke, some got offended……..common occurrence during edgy/too soon jokes (bear in mind they are also comedians and have to think on the spot). I generally think it’s a bad idea to get political in shows, but that’s just me. Before the internet, JB would’ve pulled Kyle aside after the show and said “bro, what were you thinking?” and then they move on with their lives. Nowadays when this is broadcasted to the whole world, situations like this get bigger than they actually are; leading to JB panicking and canceling the tour. JB is getting backlash too for laughing. Yes, he laughed (he’s on stage, the show goes on and you keep smiling), but his body language shows discomfort (imo).

Kyle should have absolutely known better than to make a joke like that in a public venue, especially the day after it happened. Even if they are anti-Trump it is a terrible look to joke that he should have gotten killed. That being said getting dropped by his talent agency and going on indefinite hiatus is such an extreme reaction and shows how terrified people and institutions are of even being associated with someone who said something even mildly offensive, which is also a disheartening thing to see.

    • @SaveThisRepublic
      @SaveThisRepublic 6 месяцев назад

And the people who did cancel and were refunded, causing the cancellation of the tour did the most appropriate thing -- with their wallets. So my question to you is, do you think it's "disheartening" for people to request a refund, or "disheartening" for the refund to be granted?

I don't mean the room as in the venue full of non-American fans who you believe to probably agree with you politically, but the room as in general current circumstances.
Jack Black recently came out in public support of the opposing candidate who himself has been criticized for previous statements regarding Trump that could be taken as encouraging political violence. "Threat to democracy", "put him in a bullseye", etc.
Not to mention years and years of media personalities literally comparing him to Hitler, some going so far as to say he should be "taken out".
Kyle's joke would've been just a drop in the ocean of "lmao we should take him out" comments if he did it last year. To do it right after someone actually tried to do it is quite different. Especially when your bandmate just endorsed the other candidate, this is tone deaf as fuck.

_On one hand, I am so happy that the left is getting a hefty taste of their own medicine. I’m so sick of cancel culture running rampant for so many years and then once it’s pointed back at them “what happened to free speech?”_
Then again, it was the right that was always talking about "cancelling bad", and how you shouldn't get offended over a joke, and now they decided to cancel someone over an insenstitive joke... (Of course it isn't the entire right, but this backlash definitely comes mostly from the right.)
I do agree that it is good that people on all sides see the effects of cancel culture, though, and I hope that stuff like this makes people wake up and stop being so sensitive. But the more likely outcome is that most people will think "when it's our guy, then cancelling bad, but when it's their guy, then cancelling good". I mean, that's the way that a lot of people have been operating until now - not sure how this is going to change anything.

I don’t support them in that comment or action. I don’t make excuses. Maybe the core is to determine what is appropriate and right, and then and stand by that regardless of where it comes from. Call out what is not aligned, no matter where it comes from. And like our Stoic philosopher friends say, “I seek truth.”

@@MaggaraMarineIt's the same with a lot of other stuff not only cancel culture. If the other guy does it, its's worst thing in the world. If our guy does it's not as bad because ... and it's so completly different because etc.
I really wish that left and right would stop drifting apart and stop torpedoing whatever the other side says and does.
I also think that it's not good if a candidate is from the left side of the democrates and from the right side of the republicans.
The goal for a president should be to unite and bring the country forward. And not pander to the most extreme 10%. Both parties have some extreme views that the other side will never accept. Sadly these are topics that are used a lot at the moment.
Currently the climate is so heated that 50% of the country hate Trump and 50% hate Biden. For both it will be impossible to be a good leader. No matter what they do. The other side will still hate them. No matter what they do. I also think that both are a poor choice for president. Both are too old. If Biden continuous to age as fast as during his first 4 years as president he won't survive the next two years. With an almost 50:50 split between the people the worst thing to do is to not accept a vote. This could lead to a civil war. This makes the candidate who does not accept the vote a dictator who will prefer to see the country burn instead of a win from the other side. When Trump could not lose he diveded the country like never before and brought it to the brink of a civil war. And he would do it again if he has the slightest chance to upturn the vote. The left has cancel culture and cultural appropriation. You can be sexist or racist and it is good because racism is only bad against certain races. Cultural appropriation says that you cannot do certain things because you have the wrong skin color or are the wrong race.
The right talks about an elite who fabricates evidence in the background and controls the world. And the poor billionaire is the victim and with a heavy heart accepts the money from the plebs to make him richer. He will fight for them until he won't profit enough anymore. With the narrative of the lying elite you never have to lose again. You just say that the results are faked. If scientific evidence proves a different opinion than yours ... --> fake. Opinion gets more important than facts. And people will believe it because it supports their view. Thats so dangerous All those things are in my opinion horrible but ok for one side.
It is time for someone who can bridge the gap between left and right. It could be a moderate democrate or a moderate republican. This candidate would have to compromise with the other party in order to bring the country forward.
It got a bit long. This topic always gets me because I'm so disappointed in both sides.

Some wishing he was eliminated, and others wanting violent retribution in response to what happened. And also seeing conservatives trying to cancel regular people and getting them fired from their jobs for unhinged comments about the event. On Sunday, my pastor brought up the passage about Jesus saying to pray for and love your enemies and that resonated with me. And it's becoming more evident that hostility isn't and will never bring about any solution. We need to have these conversations in good faith, and I would even recommend face-to-face, so we can all come to an understanding even if we end up disagreeing in the end. They went after a kid wearing his football team's colors as face paint, for God's sake. And they faced near-zero repercussions for this, despite everyone not on the "tolerant left" requesting them to stop as it would eventually lead to what's happening right now.
Also, these people getting "cancelled" over the last 4 days weren't getting fired from their jobs for saying "Trump = bad" or something. Mike, you spoke the truth in this video. Your points were well put and you broke things down very well. I agree with you and your assessment of this situation. Everybody makes mistakes and sometimes, in the heat of the moment, we sometimes say things that we don't mean or say something that is extreme that we do mean.... at that particular moment. I think Kyle's words were bad, it was a big mistake and he recognized that and apologized for it, which is good. I feel a little less confident about Jack's apology though, but I still do appreciate the effort and the actions he has taken and understanding why some fans are upset by the incident. Violence is not cool and should ALWAYS be the last resort. And one thing I have to say is that I find it disgusting that some people on social media are actually upset that Trump is still alive. Wishing harm upon another person and actively trying to bring harm upon another person are both horrible things and should be condmened. Thanks for this video, Mike. Praying for the Trump family, for America and for all of us Americans. One more thing that I gotta say: Just because we disagree on one subject doesn't mean that there aren't one million other subjects in which we would agree on. We don't have to be enemies, we don't have to hate each other, we don't have to have any negative feelings about anyone. We can simply avoid discussing the subjects on which we disagree and still be bros.
