- Too little love is shown for the Planet of the Apes Reboot Trilogy. The incredible performances, the spectacular direction, the benchmark special effects, the emotionally rich and complex characters. These films remain as the pinnacle of franchise film making. Rise, Dawn, and War make up my favorite trilogy of all time. And since there’s not a lot of love for this trilogy in this format, I suppose I need to answer the call.
“Planet of the Apes: The Perfect Trilogy” will be a 3-part series dedicated to exploring the people, production, and themes of the Planet of the Apes Trilogy. Starting with “The Triumph of Rise,” then “The Tragedy of Dawn,” and concluding with “The Beauty of War,” each video will be a deep dive into one of the films - their characters, symbols, craftsmanship, and psychology. If nothing else, I just want to explain my love for one of my favorite stories ever told.
From the creators of Caesar, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, to the emotionally driven storyteller, Matt Reeves, this series will highlight the passionate artists who gave this studio blockbuster a heart and soul seen too rarely in most modern productions. And it will seek to understand where that heart lies and why these films remain so emotionally impactful and relevant today.
I hope you’re as excited to watch these videos as I am to make them.

Remember, apes together strong
Before seeing these, I thought I knew what a great trilogy was. But I was wrong. I saw Rise in 2012 in my Biology class, and not a single student was on their IPhone 3GS at the time. Then I saw Dawn in the theaters, and I left mind blown. I thought that’s it after this, that War would be an average third movie of the series, but would have good tie-ins to the original movie. BUT I WAS DEAD WRONG. Perfect Trilogy doesn’t even come close to what I think of this one. These are movies that not only respected the original movie, but expands upon its original source material, and in my honest opinion, can call this the definitive prequel trilogy to the original. While me discovering behind the scenes of Godzilla movies have been my introduction to the art of filmmaking, This trilogy is what cemented my passion of film and storytelling altogether.
Better then the Star Wars prequels
Reject Galaxy, Embrace Monke
“Perfect Trilogy” lmao what more movies

War always held a special place in my heart because I always saw it as the apes version of a biblical story. it was their old testament.
Definitely has that mythic element. In fact, Matt Reeves himself has described it as the story of how Caesar became the apes' version of Moses delivering them to the promised land. The religious parallels are a very interesting part of the film for sure, one I'll at least have to note.
@@StoryStreet which makes Caesar Jewish
Ya. I've always thought the same about the Moses parallels. The whole series is this fantastic take on the ape mythology from the originals.
"Humans took primitive apes as pets... Apes were quartered in cages, but they lived and moved freely in human homes. They became responsive to human speech... They became alert to the concept of slavery. And as their numbers grew, to slavery's antidote which, of course, is unity. At first, they began assembling in small groups. They learned the art of corporate and militant action. They learned to refuse. At first, they just grunted their refusal. But then, on an historic day, which is commemorated by my species and fully documented in the sacred scrolls, there came [Caesar]. He did not grunt. He articulated. He spoke a word, a word which had been spoken to him time and again without number by humans. He said: "No"."

I really cannot recall the amount of times I get a discerning look from a film snob when I say, "And the best film trilogy for me is the new Planet of the Apes one". Even though it's by the WETA production team and LotR sits on top of many film lists. This superior Apes trilogy, not constrained by adapting any books, is looked down upon. Thank you so much for undertaking this perfect trilogy!
Dawn is legit one of my favorite movies. It’s Shakespearean. Definitely contains my favorite performances as well from Toby Kebbel and Serkis as well of course.
I’ve been waiting forever for someone to make a video like this
I've always thought Rise is good, Dawn is breathtaking and War is heartbreaking
The 3 of them have a special place in my heart, and I loved every single moment of them
Thanks for making these videos!!
I've just finished watching all 3 videos, and found them as beautiful and moving as the actual movies. I agree that it's the perfect trilogy, and I thank you for the effort you've gone to to explain what I felt but could not put into words. 👍
These 3 films had absolutely no business being as great as they are😂😂
I loved the shit out of one and two but I had to force myself to watch war....... because I knew it would lead to Cesar's death.......and I wasn't ready for it....even now it still hurts and makes me cry just thinking about it......😭😭😭😭
I really hope you get big! Your videos are so great!

Such an under rated franchise that deserves to be bigger than it is. Even the original movies are mostly all pretty great and darker than I think most people imagine.
What a missed opportunity at 1:46 to call the 3rd film "The Art of War"
I NEED THE TRAGEDY OF DAWN SO BADLY. Please make it soon I loved your first video so much
Hoo, this gave me the feels.
Just got done watching the first part, can't wait for 2 and 3!
Just finished rewatching the series and cannot wait to hear your thoughts on War.
I freaking love this trilogy
I gotta check this set of essays out
i always feel like you make videos on my favorite franchises. avatar, community, fma, last of us, and this?! i cannot wait, i believe these movies are some of the most underrated phenomenal work in film. too this day i still watch certain movies and theorize if this trilogy was the reason behind certain storytelling or cgi. im really looking forward to the upcoming videos
oof, that hit differently.
The only Planet of the Apes I've seen is the Tim Burton reboot but that doesn't mean I won't watch the sh*t out of this
Except this trilogy is significantly better
Oh boy, that’s arguably the worst one
@@sandorenckell5259 it was very confusing
how has the experience been
@@VercilJuan Amazing. I watched these and I bought all of the new Planet of the Apes movies, then watched them with my parents. It was a good time. Great movies and great videos
I love this trilogy. I believe Matt Reeves did a wonderful job directing the 2nd & 3rd movie. And Michael Giacchino's score is ❤️ This is why I'm personally excited about the fact that they're teaming up for The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson. Cannot wait for both, your video series and The Batman. ❤️🦇
I love this trilogy it's one of the greatest imo. All of the movies are great but what doesn't make it the best for me was the very end of war with Caesar. But can't wait for the vid bro
StoryStreet I know we only have Part I of your series but thank you so much for doing it! My favourite is War, directed so much more beautifully by Matt Reeves! Reeves made Dawn a beautiful, powerful film on its own and equally within the pantheon of the whole Apes franchise but War I feel surpasses this, it's bleaker, even darker, more brutal yet has a lot of heart and soul at its centre. War especially makes me even more excited that Reeves is directing the next Batman movie, he proved he has the filmmaking chops and the emotional depth to bring to the Batman mythos. Plus, imagine a photorealistic terrifying motion-capture Clayface opposite a lifelike animatronic Scarface!
Idk if this is a popular or unpopular opinion, but War is definitely my favorite. All 3 are masterpieces and I can’t think of any thing that I don’t like besides little nitpicks that don’t hold much value, but War has always stood out for me
I've watched the trilogy and damn its so good.
Only got to watch the 2 sequels in the cinemas while I watchef Rise in my old Ipad
When's part two coming?
Not soon enough dammit! lol.
What are your thoughts on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes coming out next year? I'm looking forward to it.
We waited long, but it turned out preeetty fucking great after all
Actually really good. Surprisingly so.
Its pretty good
oo oo aa aa
Where’s part 2 bud
Fuck man, i’ve wanted a proper tribute to this masterpiece and just the promise that I know you will give that effort from the heart has earned you my subscription.
It’s rare to have a trilogy where all 3 movies are good. Let alone, great
I'm looking forward to it :) The first two movies in the Planet of the Apes trilogy really amazed me when they came out, not just for their CGI beauty but also for the depth of sympathy I had for the characters
I really love this trilogy
Syfu
How dare you. This is the best trilogy of all time.
Heres to hoping they make a perfect sequel trilogy as well!!!! My favorite film franchise, easily
Matt Reeves made 2 and 3 soooooo good.
Monke
I was recommended the part 1 of your series. I just recently re-watched the whole trilogy over the week and I have always loved these movies. You put words to paper so well. Your video is so well done and inspiring and it really does a good job of diving deep into the meanings, emotions and storytelling in the movie. I am so excited for the rest and I hope to see more soon! You have done an amazing job so far and I have so much respect for your storytelling and analysis in this video. I left the same comment on your actual video just thought I might have a better chance of you seeing it on this one. Seriously, good job :)
Dawn will always be my favorite
this is my absolute favorite trilogy. I am so excited for this
Hey Story, I’ve rewatched your first video for “The Triumph of Rise” and I still love it, but I’ve noticed you’ve had a hard time posting within the last year. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m really looking forward to “The tragedy of Dawn” and “The Beauty of War.” Whatever is taking you so long, I hope you’re doing well and you get over any setbacks along your way.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Planet of the Apes, it was always an interest but never something I’d go out of my way to see. But within the past three years I’ve been finding my true identity and my true passion for filmmaking and photography, and when I was done watching Triumph for the first time, I couldn’t count on my hands how many times I was almost brought to a tear, because in many ways I feel like my story is similar to Cesar’s: in finding my identity and my place in the world.
At the end of it all, your video inspired me. I don’t know what you’ve got in store with the next two videos, but I’m dying to see them.
Best of wishes to you, and hopefully you can release these soon.
Sir when is this coming I am waiting on this like I waiting on god of war Ragnarok
Hey, if you ever wanted to make a subreddit, I went ahead and nabbed r/StoryStreet
Just in case someone decided to take the sub and never use it
I haven't thought about that much (mostly because I don't even know what would be in a StoryStreet sub), but if you have it and want to do something with it, be my guest. I'd much rather something like that be fan run anyway.
Basically, now that you have it, you can do what you want with it, because I'm not going to. It is a nice gesture, though, so thank you.
I gotta see the rest of this series, subbed with notifications!
Underrated.
You're right people don't talk about these films as often as they should. Looking forward to the series.
I personally think the movies are trash. But I would like to hear your perspective on it as well.
Fys
Well. At least you’re entering with an open mind.
@@dastvan8002 That's all any of us could do I guess.
I do like the motion capture used in the movie and some of the performances, so it's not like I hate the movies or something.
