- Lilia Podkopayeva (UKR) didn't stand a chance, after crashing on her first vault.
For a moment, she thought she would get another chance, repeating her attempt, after
leaving the podium.
But the reasons for that were totally different... let's have a look...
She looks cute even when she's upset and frustrated. 😁
She seemed notably graceful, powerful, so technically gifted and also quite beautiful. A real treasure for gymnastics.
On Gymnastic podcast, Piskun say that first vault ruled equipment failure, then allowed to vault again, but failed score still count. Doesn't make sense.
Hiyas - we speculated also about it in the comments.
@Libaluff was at the arena as mentioned... and described what has happened.
Ouch😩
Yes indeed!
She was nothing but bone, sinew, and muscle. She was a tough, tough kid.
I am truly happy, she became the Olympic Champion in 1996.....
She deserved it.
very strange what happened, she did second vault without waiting the judges to give her the green light, so the score was 0 and also because she had a second vault from same group, I don't understand why she was allowed to compete again
I think this is what happened:
1. Lilia wanted to show the handspring forward, with a half twist in piked position initially as her 1st vault, but slipped off the apparatus
2. She decided (probably her coach did) that, since the vault was not performed, she should simply repeat it, because it had the higher start value. Rather than the last Yurtchenko vault she showed later in the competition....
3. She then started the second Vault, without waiting for the green light from the judges, who were still sorting out, what score she should get for a vault she announced, but didn't deliver. So some of the judges didn't pay attention most likely.
4. Then she was allowed to repeat the second vault (but now the real one), because it had to be from another vaulting group. This time she performed the planned Yurtchenko with a full twist in tucked position. (The gymnast announce before the competition starts, what kind of vaults they will show).
Getting permission, to repeat the second vault, because the judges weren't ready is okay in my eyes.... there could have been given a signal, that we didn't see, due to a technical mistake. At 1:27 you see in the low left corner a judge raising her hands, as if she wanted to say: 'What now?'
At 7:42 the speaker in the hall explains the audience also, that she was allowed only to perform the official second vault again....
@@Boban1611 yes but it was not correct to give her a second chanche
@@Marketoromagnolo Don't be so harsh Marketo... life is too short and she didn't have a chance to win a medal anyway. Smile and say.... oh, how nice of the judges..... 🥰😀😏😎😁
@@Boban1611 looool
I was in the arena. The judge signalled to her that she could go - it was a judging error - that is why she got a second chance.
😢
It was heartbreaking, when she thought she could repeat her first attempt.... only to find out, the second one wasn't noted by the judges, because they weren't ready yet....
😱 she can brake her spine
Yes.... but she made herself so small as possible. Almost a 'controlled' fall..... if you know what I mean.
Very tuff athletes
