I had a character that was immune to fire. Walked into a group of enemies (also had an ac of 32 [we were level 20, chill]) and used my wand of fireball to cast fireball at level 6 centered on myself. I think I killed like 15 enemies outright with that, then went to town on the other 10 or so with my super shotgun (homebrew barbarian, I was basically the Doomslayer). Good times.

I was plying as a blue Dragonborn, DM had an electrified copper room, I laughed and walked through to cut the power.
I can imagine it kinda went like this:
You: " Hey DM imma just walk in and cut the power"
DM: "Aight, you take 34 points of lightning damage"
You: "Im immune to lightning damage"
DM: ...

No no, everyone takes red dragonborn, a few are barbarians, a few are spellcasters. Spellcasters cast wall of fire, barbarians grapple enemies inside the wall, and then the casters pelt them with fireballs for 10 rounds. Wall of fire alone is 225 damage, plus 252 from 9 fireballs.
Imagine grabbing the BBEG and getting teleported into an active volcano. If you’ve got a chromatic Dragonborn barbarian, that guy is not going to be breaking out so easily.

@@reggienullator Read "barbarian", where most generally tend to have high constitution even at a low level. Plus I don’t think fumes will be an issue if both you and the BBEG are currently under molten lava.

If you are someone who can cast fireball and find yourself alone in a room with enemies (especially such a small room), things have gone very badly.

I had a player as a pyromaniac fire gensai. At one point, we were trapped by a wall of fire, and he said that he just stepped through it to escape. We were all flabbergasted until he pointed out that he has fire resistance and that tanking the wall of fire ultimately did less damage to him than the monsters inside of it.
Sir... as someone who plays as a Dragonborn on the regular... you just opened my eyes to a whole world of fun and torture to amy future DM's who may cross me

Gem: Not only can they telepathically tall to people within 30ft of them they can already fly at lvl 5 they also have resistince to their corraponding type. Amethyst and emerald is psychic, tops is necrotic, crystal is radiant, and sapphire is thunder.
Metalic has little difference with the basic dragon born except for their breath weapon. At 5th level, they get additional breathweapon, dealing one of the additional following effects allowing with the dmg depending on the type you chose
They must make a STR saving throw against your breath DC or be pushed 20ft and knocked prone or you can make a CON saving throw against your breath DC or be incapacitated till your next turn.
The types of metal dragonborns are as follows.
Brass and gold are fire, bronze is acid, copper is lighting, and silver is cold.
Yea I didn't briefly explain it but inmo gem dragonborns are more better then metal.
And no they don't get additional Stat boosts

I looked this up and you don’t just get immunity at level five you can gain immunity to your colour of dragon for one minute, but you do always have resistance
One minute is ten rounds of combat. But yeah the video is kinda overblown.
Once per long rest and it's not even a bonus action it's an Action.

@@guyman1570 no, it's common mistake for evocation wizard. evocation's ability only protect "other", it do not protect himself. it's also been clarified in sage advice

What do you mean finally? This used to be an option in older editions of the game. There were even fireball variant spells designed exactly for this function.

3 levels of rune knight fighter to become large and grapple at advantage, and the rest in scribe wizard to turn all your spells into poison.

The other race is the old Yuan Ti pureblood. They got poison immunity at level 1.
they also get spell resistance and at will speak with animals. pretty good race!

No fireball specifies if it's being worn or carried it won't catch on fire.
That is generally ignored. It would be a bookkeeping nightmare to track damage to every piece of equipment every time an AoE hits.
Fire immune clothes made from lava or smth, since ya know, they won't hurt you. Hell, you're even better now since if you grapple someone, they get burned
a whole party of different coloured dragonborn from this edition. The Power Rangers of immunity.
Also Fire is the most used damage type outside of physical. So immunity to it is insanely powerful

Now I can only imagine an enemy group casting wall of fire around them for protection and a barbarian Dragonborn slowly crossing the flames with a Machiavellian grin on his face.
I'm playing as a red dragonborn monk but due to getting brought down to 0 hps from a reality warping substance in my campaign im now an amber dragonborn swapping out my fire breath attack for a force damage attack which is awesome!
Red Dragonborn being able to swim in lava is an amazing image
What's even better is when you are a poison resistant dragon born rogue who uses clumsiness to nail all his targets with close range poison applications, and drop a potion of poison cloud.
Why rogue and Not Poisoner feat + Drunken Master? Wouldnt that be more on Theme? Just asking out of curiousity

Ask a DM you don't ever tell your players how to play a race, but ya give them little bits they need to look for

I had a fireproof homebrewed dwarf from the forge plane in Pathfinder, and his gimmick was covering himself in "napalm" and angrily stomping into combat in full plate that he built himself.

Remember though if they don't have a magical source of damage immunity their gear can still be affected. So get used to buying a lot of replacement clothing.

Honestly it'd work even without dragonborns. Wizards that has the evocation subclass can sculpt the fireball to not hit the fighter anyway.
I remember that my dm made a puzzle where there was a locked door and the only way to unlock it was a switch at the top of a VERY tall roof. No one else could reach it except for me (unbeknownst to my dm) And the ranger with his bow and arrow. When the ranger ran out of arrows, i turn to the dm and ask if the power of casting fireball would cause enough to launch me to the roof if I use it at my feet, and she said "Well, sure, but only if you can roll above 15 on both the fireball AND an acrobatics check, and you'll take the fire damage and wont be able to walk for a while." I went forth, rolled two nat 20s, and when my dm asked to roll for damage, I asked her to check his notes on my character again. The look of pure admiration and awe as she read her notes and looked up at me made it all priceless.
I then almost died from fall damage on my way down, but it was worth it

A gem dragon has resistance to psychic making in the perfect race for totem barb
Notably the fine details, at level 5 you get immunity but it takes an action and lasts 1 minute, you get to use this once per long rest. Still incredibly good but worth knowing the details

For people talking about how being immune to a damage type means the dm makes that damage type vanish from the game. I remember reading a full D&D campaign journal. It was this gang of necromancy related classes who were going into this city sized labyrinth to hunt for profit and power. They literally raised armies of undead, were able to massively buff and heal them, and proceeded to take over most of the first level.
Suddenly the second level they are getting attacked by snipers in the shadows that never stand and fight, summoned creatures who dont leave bodies behind, golems of various sorts, and electronic defenses and robots. Suddenly they have no bodies to raise up as undead anymore and are quickly scrambling to survive. They made it work in the end, but it certainly felt like an over correction for a party that pulled off a shocking level of power multiplication through skill synergy.

You missed one thing: give that dragon a Mask of the Red Dragon, and now they are healing while the enemy is dying.
I did something similar with a piracy campaign where the DM let me play a Triton. My signature maneuver was grappling the enemy caster and holding them underwater, happily breathing.

Had a Emerald Gem Dragonborn Bear Totem Barbarian as a player in my last campaign. Resisted all damage when raging, effectively doubling his HP. He also took the Tough feat lol. Eventually turned into a Sibriex. Good times.

Also chromatics can replace one attack of their atack action with their breath weapon. This means you can dragonbreath, elemental cantrip, bonus action spell as a bladesinger for significant ranged magical damage. Effectively casting 3 spells in a single turn. Similar feats also possible as a blade pact warlock, who can substitute one of their pact weapon strikes for the breath.
The wizards best friend is the Dragonborn monk that grabs people and holds them while he casts fireball
Didn't know these guys existed! I did the store-brand version though. Breath weapon the baddie and a hay cart, grapple baddie and myself into the blaze, stay until baddie is crispy, laugh in martial HP and fire resistance.
There's also the fact that chromatic dragonborns get a free to cast/use cone attack based on their ancestors scale color
There is a limit to it, equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest and get or metallic Dragonborn also get them.
True but metalics don't get the damage immunity and normally you need something as a component for a cone breath attack chromatics only need to long rest every now and then to use their breath attack which is op
Think of it this way a red chromatic dragon born can look at its feet and use it's breath attack to do a free AOE fire spell and take no damage from it
@@ZacheryClouseall Dragonborn get resistance and a free breath weapon (with charges equal to their proficiency bonus per day) in the damage type of their ancestry. The chromatic Dragonborn can have 1 minute per day of immunity to that damage type but it’s only one minute per long rest that’s not something to build a character around.
I personally like the gem Dragonborn which have less common damage types (less likely to be resisted) and they get psychic communication at first level and at 5th level they get the ability to create wings and fly for one minute per long rest. It’s not a lot but it is a great save when falling or needing to get up or down quickly.
I loved playing my Red Dragonborn. She was a Dragonblood Sorceress with Silver ancestry with a kind of reverse koi pattern to her scales. Her entire family (including herself) was basically mobster Tiamat fanatics and somewhere in the family tree someone had an affair with a Silver dragon in human shape. Our GM was so cool about it. The more she embraced the more LG path, the more she unlocked features from Silver Dragonborn, and the same for CE Red path. She was a really fun morality experiment.
It also means that, if you ever get the Dragon Mask of the same color, you can actually HEAL instead of taking damage.
Chromatic Warding. Starting at 5th level, as an action, you can channel your draconic energy to protect yourself. For 1 minute, you become immune to the damage type associated with your Chromatic Ancestry. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
This is the feature he's referring to.

More terrifying, although fire is know for pain, poison, is known for suffering.
...ok, I'm adding a minor antagonist to my campaign now, and they will be terrifying.
I like Gem Dragonborn where instead of Fire, Cold, Lightning, Poison or Acid being your elements you get Force (Amethyst), Radiant (Crystal), Psychic (Emerald), Thunder (Sapphire) or Necrotic (Topaz). On top of that, they are also psionic so you get telepathy and you get flight for a minute once per long rest at 5th level.

A red chromatic dragonborn wizard specializing in fireball definitely sounds terrifying
I had a White dragonborn Paladin in my party once. In a battle our wizard used Ice knife against an enemy who was close to the paladin but he explicitly stated he aims at our paladin. I didn't think of it much until the paladin "caught the ice knife" stabbed the enemy, shoved it in further and watched him explode. I didn't know how legit it would be but my one rule is "If it sounds cool and looks cool, I'll allow it." This wizard Alley ooped the dragonborn with an ice knife it was the coolest thing I heard that day

My favorite abuse of this is "I cast heat metal on my own armor, and grapple the enemy"

that's when you roll bludgeoning damage as the creature spends it's last moments screaming attempting to free it's self and hitting you.
That's why I like the original rules where carried objects would also have to save from being damaged.
I play a blue Dragonborn Bardloch. She'd be useful for collecting lightning in a bottle.

The first time I ever played was as a blue dragonborn... And I loved it... Do you know how badass it is to summon a Storm strong enough to destroy gods... And then just relax in there eating popcorn and drinking Dr pepper?

Fun fact: DM never said which ancestor or how many! There's two parents who have parents of their own, and those parents have parents, and so on.

I imagine a red dragomborn paladin firmly but still gently holding a criminal by their shirt and looking them in the eye as they cast wall of fire keeping a calm face as the enemy claws and screams being cooked alive

A friend of mine was in a DnD group that had 4 Dragonborns and a halfling, he was the halfling
nothing beats the sheer power you feel when your red dragonborn gets the chance to grapple someone and dive into the lava (18d10 fire damage) for half an hour

there's a fun combo that i made which is a red chromatic dragonborn with the heat metal spell. step 1. wear metal armour, step 2. gain immunity to fire, step 3. cast heat metal on your armour, step 4. grapple
