I agree 100%. Like the F Type If I had the spare cash I would buy an F Type . Makes no sense with everything we know about Jaguar. It's a work of art first and a car second - maybe that has been the problem with Jaguar all along.
Even the E Type to me has shades of another old classic - the Citroen DS. I can't believe the designer of the E Type didn't look at the DS first !
I had one once I my new Kia EV6 AWD reminds me that time when cars where allowed to have ‚rounded‘ forms of a lady and where not boring SUV-boxes. Jaguar had a good start with the iPace but the cars never got updates OTA as promised and where easily passed by Tesla and now Hyundai Groups marvelous brands! My Kia dealer used to sell lots of Land Rovers and Jaguars. Now they needed to have cheap mass products from Stellantis as Kia has that much successes all over that they cannot produce what is sold. So they even had to directly import cars from other European countries just to keep customers happy which where used premium VIP treatment in luxury athmosphere and like me buying Kia now - not for price reason but for more car for money!😂😎🇨🇭

Wrong, the E type used Lucas Electric and had one of the worst electrical systems ever made. My Dad had an X/J 12 that tried to burn itself down 3 times. Finally he got rid of that POS.
Classic British engineering company. Started with brilliant ideas, technology and models then sat on its laurels while the rest of the world caught up and passed them.
Nope - they outsourced it all to Indians and Chinese junk.
They started with crud and attempted to slap lipstick on dog shit.

Hi Sam, greetings from the U.K. - Well Jaguar and Landrover are part of the sad history of the car industry here in Britain. I'm in my late 50's now, and when I was young, British cars were well know; names like Triumph, Wolseley, Morris, Austin etc. and of course Jaguar and Landrover. The British car industry was killed during the 1970s and 1980s by a lethal combination - utterly stupid management, and utterly belligerent unions. Jaguar make some very lovely cars, beautiful design, smooth, quiet powerful. The problem has been build quality - if you get a good one, they are good - perhaps even very good. if you get a bad one, then they are nothing but trouble; the same can be said for Landrover. Such a shame, because these two brands have made some really desirable and iconic cars, but after the Japanese raised customer expectations for reliability in the 1970s and beyond, customers simply would not tolerate unreliable cars anymore - and all the British brands failed to pull their socks up.
You can find numerous sites on RUclips that just say that don't even buy a new Land Rover under warranty because it's still going to be a pile of garbage. Even cars that have gone down in quality like BMW and Mercedes are still good under warranty. Very sad

The rot in the British car industry started in the post war years of the 50s, as manufacturers failed to recognize growing competition from abroad, and failed to update their own products. Their attitude was like it or lump it. The clashes between unions and manufacturers followed this, and the final nail in the coffin was the extremely high standard of imported vehicles.
Belligerent unions? Are they the unions that fight for fair pay for their members? If I buy a "premium" brand, I sure as hell want the person assembling the product to be thinking about my product and not worrying if they can pay their bills.
@@roycraggs3822 Exactly so, same with the motorcycles. In 1978 the Triumph Bonneville was more or less the same as the one first produced in the '30s. Visit a motorcycle museum to see what developments Brit engineers were doing, it's a joke.
I suggest, take a trip around Solihull where the JLR Plant is, that's why these vehicles are expensive. The new "Defender" is awful, £80k for what?
I think in the midlands there is a long history of highly paid auto workers which remains and so makes the industry untenable. It takes the Japanese to show us Brits how to do the job. I think the new Triumph (Hinkley) do a good job though.
I'm a Jaguar fan and owner and I drive a 2010 XF I love my car but I totally agree with your comments. It's sad to think this brand will be dead within 10years or so.

If Chinese buy it then it could widely popular in segment like MG or lotus Nev. Indians have failed jaguar. Big dogs like SAIC DFSK even Geely cold buy it and shift all production to China. Jaguar brand still has power for it to be good investment
@@ciybersal9833 MG now is just a badge they glue to SAIC models. Jaguar might end like that, but it's not really desirable to many.

I was lucky to have a 2010 XF 3.0 twin turbo company car and it is still the background on my work laptop - it wasn't just a car, it was a sense of occasion!
I owned a Jag for about 4 years. I bought it at 3 years old and found that things that should last for ages just stopped working like boot release button on the boot. Door handles would stick out so the doors would not close. Phantom error messages appear that only a full power off , lock then unlock of the car would cure. This phantom problem was a real pain as often the car would go into limp mode so a trip by motorway was a real problem as you had to pull over on the hard shoulder to fix the issue before rejoining traffic. I sold it as other problems started appearing which pointed to bills costing 25 to 35% of the value to fix. Not wanting to dump the problems on a private buyer I sold it to a "we buy any car" type place. The interiors are lovely but they are very unreliable. A friend who works for a breakdown firm says they are about the worse make for problems. If they can't make a reliable car without stupid faults they deserve to go out of business regardless of the heritage the brand has.
Lucas electronics. They supplied some electronics for the space shuttle Challenger and others I venture. Lucas proudly advertised that until after the Challenger…then the banners quietly disappeared at the dealerships….oh boy.😮
I had an XF. . Loved the car . Had one breakdown, in France and thank god still under warranty. I now drive Lexus , total peace of mind and very happy . Would not buy German .

My first Jaguar was a 3.8 MkII, which I inherited form my father, and still have today. This led to a Series 2 XJ6, then a XR8 and finally a F Pace. The dealer practically kissed my feet when I made my last purchase and told me it was the only sale he had made in three months. It will be sad to see such heritage and history disappear if Jaguar goes under.
My first jaguar was a mark 2 2.4 automatic it belonged to chivas regal the whiskey 🥃 company from Scotland 🏴 it was a 1964 I bought it in 1977 for £700 43 thousand miles on the clock kept that car into the mid 80s then moved onto the XJ6 and the the XJS V12 but once TATA took jaguar over I new that was the end of jaguar now drive a Mercedes S class 500.
I grew up in a Mark II (father) in the 60s. In the 1970s he got an XJ (Leyland) but sold it soon due to poor quality. Kept the Mark II till 1987 (!). I had a Porsche craze in those days but then 17 years of Jaguar, mainly XKR. Sold it a few years ago. Should have kept it. Was the last proper Jag. Breaks my heart to see Jaguar going down. Jaguar is history already. No XJ, no sports car. No proper car.

@@fuoco13 Not a good sign if they can't even sell them in high end commonwealth urban areas. I think Land Rover will follow suit if they can't get their vehicles to be at least half way reliable.
I am an engineer at JLR. I have been there since 2010. It really saddens me see he we have demised. We have no clear direction. We are manager heavy. Most of them have no idea what they are doing. It's true we have gone very woke internally. We are more worried about social injustices than designing and building cars. Very toxic environment at them moment. I'm just waiting for VR, then I can walk away. All really sad. Wish it wasn't true. I did once love JLR.
Jaguar has been broke for over 40 years. No one wants unreliable old shitty cars. Take personal responsibility.

I owned a Land Rover for ten years and it was for the most part a good experience. But then I read about the confusing moves made by management regarding their XJL electric, cancelling the I-Pace and so on. And then there was the fact that despite seeing them on the road, our pretty decent dealer couldn’t get more of the EV. Then I began to wonder if part of the problem is Brexit, building the I Pace in Austria. I also wonder if Tata pulled in the purse strings to stop the bleeding, delaying JLRs move to EVs. The local dealer still sells plenty of Range Rovers and Defenders, but I haven’t seen a new Jaguar on the lot in an age. Perhaps Tata has been trying to sell and doesn’t like any of the offers. I hope JLR doesn’t to a British Leyland and muddle their way into oblivion. It would be a real shame.
Worked for Jaguar Land Rover during their ‘trust fund era’ where they spent TATA’s money like it wasn’t theirs (because it wasn’t) and I’m really not surprised the chickens have come to roost on them in this way now. A badly organised, badly run company that tried to grow way too fast rather than sorting their internal logistics/politics out and maximising the potential of what they had instead of scatter gunning new models that fell flat. They knew full well their models were under developed and unreliable, they knew their quality was lacking but they churned shitty product out regardless all under a guise of propaganda and arrogance that they were “world class”. Prophets of their own demise, I feel sorry for their workers because some of them knew what needed to be done but management wouldn’t allow it.
It's very sad. In the US from 2013 to 2020 I was one of the top Jaguar salespeople in the country. I quit last June.😢
Mark my words, the e car phase will collapse for most people too expensive, and the only charges will have the rich , where are they going to get the materials, for the E Cars it's another silicone valley bubble thought out from people that live on the moon and don't care about the ordinary citizens of this world.

I owned a Jaguar XJR in the early 2000s. That was a performance car at that time but always broken. I was afraid to drive it in the end because it cost an arm and a leg to have it fixed. The final nail in the coffin was when the transmission went out. After some online research, I found out that the transmission was actually made by MB. The Jaguar dealership estimates ranged between $4k and $7K.
After a lot of research, I went to a MB dealership and bought the parts for under $400 and did the work myself.
Also, the wood paneling started to "milk out". Fortunately, the car was still under warranty because the repair bill was over $2k. I sold the car because I was too afraid to drive it.
A beautiful car and fun to drive, but made by high school students somewhere in England.
Some Chinese company should buy the nameplate. I think the Indians are probably tired of losing money on it.

Sad times as I have always liked their aesthetics , but i am not surprised. I went into a Jaguar showroom in the UK and asked about their i-pace on display, even the manager did not understand much about it. The Showroom has now gone.
I've owned a 2013 XF for four years now and love it! Only two minor issues: EGR valve cleaning and parking sensor replacement. I've always loved the design of the XF, X250, LCI.
I own an E-pace and very happy with it. Our local dealership has been selling the Jaguar LandRover side-by-side for the past 7 years. The problem remains the price of the cars - very expensive.

On one hand their plans just might work. Perhaps the market is now crowded with 'affordable' luxury brands, so upgrading Jag to the high end market might make best use of their long standing image. One the other hand they seem to be suffering the scourge that slowly kills so many corporations - professional managers. These are managers who have never had a normal job, come straight from management school , have no interest in what their business does other than sales figures and make 'flow chart' decisions ie. "If this happens, do that". They get bonuses for cutting costs. They've never started a business but they've ended many!
Had a F-Pace for a few years. Constant issues and unhelpful dealership (once purchased) lost this customer and anyone I can dissuade.
As an ex Jaguar employee, I weep at how the Jaguar brand has been treated over the years. None of the owners have understood the brand at all. I am in numerous Jaguar Facebook groups, and a vast majority of owners of Jaguars love them, with many having been fans of other marques before buying their Jaguar.
As you can see by my photo - I am a Jag Man through and through. It is a tragedy how they have spiralled out of orbit since the glory days.
Jaguar make some truly lovely cars, but since they lost their independence in the 1970s, they have been plagued by the same problems that the rest of the British car industry had - utterly incompetent senior management, and utterly belligerent unions. A good Jaguar is a lovely car, but production is inconsistent, and if you get a bad one (and there are too many) then they are nothing but trouble. Such a shame because this brand could have been king of the luxury car segment along with BMW and Mercedes.

As a Jaguar Cars veteran as well I just want to cry when I see what’s been done to the marque. What did they expect when they turned it all over to Land Rover? The brand has been starved for product development funds since the days of Ford’s PAG and the acquisition of Rover. This new plan sounds like unicorn ranching indeed.

Reading the comments is very sad. I had the pleasure to own 2 XK 120’s, a Mark VII saloon, and a pair of E Types. A few cars were kept and driven for over 40 years. Every trip in a classic Jaguar was always a memorable adventure. The joy of looking out over the sublimely sculpted bonnet as the world rushed by will be missed. Thank you Sir William Lyons.
I like the design of Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin cars. I don’t mind paying premium for these cars even it’s less reliable. However, I do mind paying premium for their parts. Until the owner of these brands make up their minds, either they want to make money by selling their cars or by selling their parts, I won’t touch these brands at all. Seriously, if your car do have reliability issues, sells your parts cheap. If your car don’t have reliability issues, sell your parts at premium. You can’t have both worlds.
I fell in love after seeing an metallic blue and cream Aston Martin convertible as a kid in a showroom 50 years ago, I still think they are some of the most appealing cars ever, unfortunately I never got close to being able to afford one.
@@favesongslist If you can't afford an Aston Martin you certainly can't afford the repairs. On one model to change/repair the wiper motor you have to remove the engine.
I don't know what the designers at Aston Martin are smoking but the management should make them stop.
For reliability , long life and serviceability stick with Toyota. I always loved Honda but the newer models are a disappointment.
I owned an XJ6 once. I bought it when it was over 20 years old, and past it's prime. But it still had superb ride, handling, comfort and power. The new cars of that time, 35 years ago, could not surpass it on any point except fuel economy.
What do the Jaguars of today have to offer that sets them above the pack...??
The design is a weak imitation of Toyota.
When Geoff Lawson passed and the job was given to Ian Callum the styling edge was lost. One can hardly identify todays Jaguars vs the pack. Sad

@@DavidSmith-ze2wi I had a client, former Jaguar XJ6 & XJ8 owner tell me she hates the current styling and that if she wanted a Buick or Nissan she’d buy one. Now drives a Lexus.
@@jerrymcgeorge4117 Not surprised, at various times in the factory we'd have competitors cars in for assessment. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. I thought Lexus was the best. Some of the attention to detail was superb.
The running joke with the old jaguars was that if it stopped leaving puddles you knew it was out of oil. They started getting some of their engines from Ford for several years.
From not always good to worse and Ford really killed the brand without understanding. With the new owners from India I hoped they do better and the iPace really came to market. I wanted to buy one but something said no to me and then nothing anymore happened neither any OTA updates. So my dealership had wisely decided for ‚bread and butter‘ Kia in the right moment besides Jaguar-Land Rover. Then the EV6 came and they really started to sell cars again. The only problem is not getting enough supply. I am very happy with that dealership and also I am sad, but during best Jaguar-Land Rover time and still now the customer relationship is as it was at old Jaguar time. Very distinctive, British and premium as well and more personal than at Mercedes or BMW. But after 54 years of mostly German premium I see also there dealerships fading away and being thrown out of time. Either they don’t get the cars they ordered or have too big inventories of old stuff that people do not buy actually. Everybody wants new EVs or is waiting any longer with their present ICE loosing too much money when selling now. War, banking crisis, inflation and recession will make the rest for too small and to risky dealerships. For both the important income from service is fading away. This also makes some stupid look for selling fuel cell cars or eFuel new cars after 2035 e.g. like Porsche who is trying to dance on two weddings. Might be some hyper cars from Bugatti (formerly owned by Porsche family in the VAG Group) will survive but for Porsche it becomes hard when they still believe they could safe investments in combustion engines! For new Bugatti owner Rimac I just see a chance to get the cake of the richest together and give them two options as long as they can. There will be no improvements necessary actually and later the brand could be put to a new Nevera. Jaguar-Land Rover however is just fading away, e.g. when BYD Yangwang U8 comes here and Porsche against an U9 or if Nio gets into position to produce the EP9 again. Naturally this goes for Ferrari too but this brand is cult so would have a longer life or buy from Rimac to get a near perfect EV. Last but not least on the Jaguars side e.g. new Genesis are coming with the classy glamour makeing that brand obsolete. They have the style on their concepts to present at high society which preferred British over German and American. And don’t forget the younger generations have just other ideas about mobility of their elders.😂😂😂
The latest Range Rover is back to a BMW engine, It’s the best thing about it. You may as well just buy an X7.

I had several Jags and Range Rovers in the 80s and 90s, the joke then was you needed two - one to drive while the other was in the workshop.

I kid you not, back in the 80's I knew a very wealthy gentleman that owned both an XJ 12 and an XJS 12. He also owned a beautifully restored T model Ford.
He joked that he kept the T model for the times that both Jaguars were in the shop for repairs at the same time.
I've had two, they are not that bad. The issue is that they need a lot of maintenance - this is true of all luxury brands, not just Jag - and when they are fully depreciated, the people who buy them can't afford the hefty maintenance bills, so they don't do them, which is a disaster.
@@ckm-mkc So unless you have plenty of cash, they ARE that bad. Am I wrong? I had a friend who REALLY wanted to buy a used one...for cheap. I said "DON"T DO IT! The crankshafts go on those, and then it will cost 4X to fix it than you paid!" He held off, and somebody else bought the car. Sure enough, about 3 months later, he found out that the crank failed.

Tata ownership seems to be doing a lot of things right with Land Rover and it was only a few years back that Tata was hailed as understanding the brand and turning it around. Aside from the ownership and other internal voes it is also because Jaguar does not have an SUV / crossover lineup and buyers have largely moved away from sedans which makes up most of their line up. Or at least at that price point there is little acceptance of Jaguar SUV's.
have a neighbor with an F in red, abs gorgeous - some time ago looked at an XJ-R bc somebody here made a plugin chevy small block & auto trans swap, but still w/other prob like electrical was still too scared to buy one. but i love riding in those owned by others, ride, leather and way it tracks on the road is just awesome. hope they find a way to continue.
We are a good way from EV's being general purpose transportation rather than being an urban commute car. I am only interested in buying a general purpose car. Until EV gets there, I plan to continue buying gas. At the same time, I'm happy for every EV sold as it does free up fuel for everyone else.
UK - I'll consider an electric car when they start putting charging facilities on street lampposts, and I'm confident of being able to plug in within five/ten minutes from the moment I decide I need to top up.

Used to feel the same way. Bought an EV recently and quickly realized there is no going back. Latest EVs are far more practical than you realize and continue to improve each year. I am sure there were plenty of guys who felt cars would never replace the horse.
ICE cars will continue ue to play a role, but I fear Jaguar is doomed in both ICE and EV markets.
Those who criticise evs have never driven them. I have a phev and have slashed my running costs by 70%! My next car will be a pure bev.
I like Jags for years they had some of the best styles not counting the Ford marriage, but electrical with Lucas's electrical system you never knew if it would start, even with dual batteries.
The last CEO was total rubbish.
The new one, Adrian Mardell is very good and just needs time - his vision is very good….

The 2018 I-Pace was a nice looking car but was pricey and less efficient by a large margin compared to the Tesla ModelY.
The inefficiency really killed the I-Pace and Jaguar did nothing to fix the efficiency during all those past four years.
Decades ago the Jags were certainly troublesome. I bought my 2008 XJ in 2010 and cannot part with it... it is one of the best cars I've ever owned ,,,super handling terrific torque , especially when manually shifting , and rarely anything goes wrong with it. Replaced the air suspension with Strutmaster and it handles awesome.
But the biggest thing that makes it so difficult to think about selling.... it's design.
For almost any price I can't think of a car more beautiful that I'd want in the driveway.
I thank Ford for the improvements and Engineering that it put into this car.
So long Jaguar dealers... for service and parts you suck with your ridiculously high prices.

The cracks are starting to appear in the EU regarding the 2030 deadline. Germany might not go ahead with the plan and other EU countries are thinking the same and it's really all to do with cost and probably practicalities, I think all countries will be looking for a cop out as the time nears.
I think they already have. I am sure I read that so long as the cars run on 'e fuels' (sustainable fuels made using a type of carbon capture) then they can continue to be sold. This tech already exists and is being scaled up.

The somewhat questionable governance we have in the UK is both stubborn and has a very limited grasp of reality, doubt they'll reset the ridiculous targets.
We need a mix of EV , Hydrogen and E fuels to be realistic
I have owned 3 Jaguars in my lifetime. A 3.8 E Type which rusted and fell apart, a 420G which did about 12 mpg and a new 4.2 S Type in 05 which broke down 3 times in the first 30k miles. Never again! I now have a Lexus LS which is indestructible and streets ahead in every department.

I’ve owned enough Jaguars to know two things:
1) If you buy one, it will break down, often.
2) Never buy a Jaguar.
My worst and last one was a beautiful XF Portfolio. One of the first Portfolios.
I bought it as a three year old car in 2011. In the time I had it, it had £10k worth of repairs (itemised by myself) before the engine blew up.
Even though Jaguar had serviced it from day one (in fact, had serviced it about a month prior), they denied any responsibility and maintained a quote of £12k-£14k to repair it
I cut my losses and scrapped the car.
Whilst I will mourn the loss of the ‘spirit’ of Jaguar, if the video is to be believed, I will not , however, mourn the reality of Jaguar ownership.
In my opinion, it is a national embarrassment.
BMW are no better. Or Merc. I experience and hear similar disaster accounts. The "premier" marques are becoming trash. Even Bentley have an appalling review record for dealers. RR have great reviews but you are basically buying one for the price of two or three, given what they cost.
I've worked on Jaguar Landrover products for over 20 years. I will say the brand has been dying a very slow death since about 2010. At it's peak in the early 2000's. The brand was hot. There was a huge customer base. I really don't know where it feel off. My guess would be when it's style changed. Customers weren't fans of the style change. It has not reached that level since then. Let's call it what it is. I think journey is coming to a close. Back in the day there was a ton of Jaguar work at the retailer i worked at, that I didn't even need to do any Land rover work. The level of work started to disappear around 2013ish time frame. I started doing more Land rover repairs around that time. Honestly I do next to no Jaguar work anymore. Our retailer has dropped the brand. I do disagree on his points with Land Rover. That brand is strong and will continue to be strong for years to come. EV's will be available in Rovers in 2024. I'm not sure where he got some of his info on Rover. Either way Jaguar is done. That's just my opinion.
Jaguars are about low-slung luxury and sports cars. What's the E-Pace, F-Pace and I-Pace? They're not Jaguars, not matter what the badge says. Nobody buys saloon cars any more and so consequently nobody buys Jaguars. Going into the SUV market was a mistake. An obvious one, in my view.

5000 items sold per month is ok and a unique Chance to right size the whole Enterprise and get rid of unions and outdated Assembly lines maybe.
But these Top Managers just don’t get that Customer Experience is starting with a 10 year waranty and mobiliy package in Case the vehicle goes to limp mode…
I am 76 just sold my last jaguar, XJS V12. Owned 3 e types, 2 xj6, my dad had MKV11 Mk1 and 3.8S. Its following the demise of the British Motor Industry of which l was a dealer part until I left uK 30 odd years ago. SAD.

England here. I see loads of Land-rovers on the road here, even of the new 100k Rangerover! I wonder how people afford them!
I think the sad reality is that most can’t afford them. They are financed to the hilt, and when things inevitably go wrong with the cars, they are neglected, as it’s too costly for anyone to afford maintaining. Hence why they depreciate horrendously in the used car market.

I had a Series 3 XJ6 back in the 90’s. Stunning car, absolutely beautiful to drive. It was so quiet and powerful that you couldn’t hear it when it pootled along at normal city speeds.
Nothing went wrong but the maintenance bills were terrifying. It cost the same as a brand new Corolla, but it was still a luxury car with luxury car bills.
I sold it after just 6 months for the same price I bought it for. Probably the most beautiful car I’ve ever owned, but I lived in constant terror of it breaking down and getting a $15,000 repair bill!
One of my local JLR dealers has 150 fully loaded Range Rovers ordered by customers, but they can't get them due to supply chain issues. They don't seem to have any issues selling $120k vehicles.

My friend had one, loved it, but it spent more time at the dealer then on his drive. They never did fix all the issues, and he got rid of it.
I love my Jaguar iPace, but would never take it on a long distance trip in the Winter as I am currently lucky to get 170 miles range. The over the air updates are few and far between with very little noticeable changes when they do arrive. Such a shame, just wish it had future proofing updates. In summary, I wont be buying another one in the future, unless by miracle they have a eureka software change that allows greater distance with a future upgrade to the BMS to allow vehicle to grid, then maybe I might keep it!
I was wondering if upgradeability isn't the key issue. If your dealer can easily and freely offer a new battery you'd be thrilled to sign up. Alas that's not the case in 2023. New batteries will be developed but you've got the old technology in a 2023 car whilst early adopters can get a reasonably cheap new car soon that goes further and isn't affected by the cold. I know which one I'd opt for.

I worked at a factory that made chiropractic tables. The electrician had a 1990-something Jaguar he used as a weekend runner. Was beautiful to drive. However, he was an electrician that had use of full workshop facilities to be able to do his own mechanical work. Otherwise, he said, no way would he be able to maintain one.

Sad for sure, I hope the company survives. Jaguar have gone through rough times before and pulled through. I currently own an '88 Series 3 V12, my sixth XJ. These have a style and panache that current models don't seem to have. Let's hope the patient pulls through.

Volvo found success doing this in the ‘90s…with the end of the 240 and 740, their SRPs doubled, or more. But they kept some accessible models. They have definitely transitioned to smaller showrooms and online sales as well. We have a volvo dealership in suburban Baltimore with no salesmen, just kiosks.
The Jaguar F-Type took me by surprise and is right up their with the Aston Martin DB9 as an all time great GT car.
They might pull off some kinda magic and survive, but here in Cambridge UK where I live Tesla model Y, model 3 and Polestar2 are popping up in everyones drives daily, I noticed 3 new Tesla taking my dog for a little walk yesterday. Nobody’s buying Jags and as I see it Landrovers are more coveted by the “working classes” or the less educated than people with money now, people with money are all buying EVs.

Extremely happy with my Jaguar I-Pace. New Range Rover is selling up to $50k over sticker. I don’t see Land Rover going anywhere.
I am on my 4th JLR product the latest two being Jag's the i-Pace I currently have seems to have lost £20k in value in 6 months. I still love the brand but it looks like I may be priced out of the brand in the future but the i-Pace is still an awesome car and it's turn of speed is phenomenal.
Collapsing sales of most brands means cost cutting has to happen. Dealerships will definitely go bust as manufacturers tear up contracts and walk away to sell via the internet.

Jaguar started to lose its way approximately 10 years ago. It tried to attract people who had little interest in their cars and ignored the proper customer base. I would describe them as a bit woke, and it never works in the long run. I retired early from a Jaguar franchise. 5 years ago, the writing was on the wall, and it was easy to see.
How about when they went from British to Indian in 2008. Think that had anything to do with it or no?

EV sales are down and used EVs are taking twice as long to sell here in the UK. Going down the EV route is utter madness. There is no infrastructure for fast charging here and with electricity prices high far less incentive to go electric. Plus the environmental damage caused by mining the raw materials is huge.
I worked there recently. Got some great people. A lot (not all) of the problems I saw there are nothing special, quite ubiquitous across the private sector, quite easy to solve if you know how...
I would love to go back and help them fix the simple stuff, the basic disciplines.
I fear the moment they needed to turn things around was about 1990. There was a flash of life during the Callum years from about 2008-2015 but as far as I can tell the current lineup is little more than refreshed versions of what was on sale in 2015, which was itself too small a stride beyond the lineup of c.2010. The defeat-seized-from-the-jaws-of-victory that is the i-Pace is a particular sore point
The last thing they need to worry about is their EV lineup. They need to get internal organization issues sorted out and update production to enhance quality otherwise it won't matter which power plant offering they have.

The market is crying out for a mid size affordable sport luxury ev that can be offered in crossover, sedan and estate body forms. Jaguar was never a brand to compete with the likes of Bentley and rolls and its just insane to try. I love ice cars but there is no real point to develop them anymore.
@@andref8246 I 100% agree. Until charging is 90& as convenient as filling up a tank at the gas station it'll never have the adoption of ICE cars. Toyota got it right by sticking to their hybrid powerplant. Charging still requires some planning even with the TSLA charging network. And plans usually never work out. Nobody really has time for that overall.
Honda and Mercedes have axed dealership models in Australia. It's killed sales for both of them. They've been smashed.
Ford have publicly stated that they would like to move to an agency model globally, and there is no doubt that every other manufacturer is thinking the same. It means far higher profits for them. The only question is who in the ICE sector are prepared to pull the pin first.
If the Australian experience is anything to go by, you don't want to be the first.
Well you do see plenty of the F pace on the road in the UK but that's I small % of global sales.
And the Ipace is priced ridiculously here, so you've really got to want one.
I have had an iPace for 4 reliable years. £200 every 2 years for service, less than 2pence a mile for grace, pace and space. I wander how many of the critics have actually driven an iPace. I think you are all bitter and twisted. The only ev that is as good is Porsche.

Jaguar have a independent Rear suspension. The brakes are set up like Formula cars The brakes are inboard thus handling is better. Lighter area where tire is mounted create less unsprung weight. This keeps tire on the ground more thus increase handling
I love Jaguars even when I drive a Range Rover sport. Most of the time when I take my RR Sport to service at the dealer they give me as a loaner a Jaguar F Pace which I do like. Will be sad if Jaguar disappears.

The Jaguar i-pace was a pretty decent EV but it's like not much really happened since launch to improve it in any material way. It's kind of just... sat there. Aside from that I think Jaguar's problem is the nickel and dime effect across their entire range. Go onto their online configurator, pick a car, and then strap in for a journey where the baseline car suddenly balloons in cost from all the optional extras that can go in it. Not only does this make their cars very expensive but it probably also screws with their supply chain from all the permutations they need to deal with. They should probably simplify right down to a couple of extras and a few trim levels so people can see what they're getting and where it is possible to see if the prices are in line with competitors.
I agree that Jaguar and Land Rover will be not be around in a few years. Their reputation of a lack of reliability, difficult and costly to work on have destroyed the brand despite making some of the best looking cars in and out. Like many other once UK based brands, their poor reputation will mean sales far less that needed to sustain the company, evolve and renew their product.
Mmm. Sidebar: Jaguar ALWAYS sold very few cars. Some models (of XK - XJ) over the lifespan only sold a few thousands worldwide. So they are used to that. In that perspective you cannot compare them with Volkswagen, Mercedes etc... That said: i agree that they are in big trouble.

Very similar story as Aston Martin. From legendary to junk in one easy lesson. My dentist bought a brand new Jaguar off of a Super Bowl ad of all things. It was a beautiful thing and spent all it's time in the shop. So much so, he got rid of it in less than a year WHILE it was still in the shop. And then he bought a Range Rover and it was worse and he dumped that within a year. Then he bought an Audi and it was so low to the ground, it couldn't be driven in winter. AWD or not. I can only wish I had all the money my dentist has wasted on cars in the last 15 years. Today, he has a Tesla and that won't be here very long either. He just doesn't learn.
Agree with the first two comments below (and others). I live in the Arabian Gulf where Japanese and Korean brands dominate (Chinese brands are fast catching up). Luxury versions, such as Lexus, are ten a penny. Incredibly cheap spares, should you need them, are available everywhere. Labour charges are also very low. Jaguars are rare, they break down often, parts cannot be obtained without difficulty (forget the main agents, which are laughable) and spare parts, which must be sourced from abroad, are eye-wateringly expensive. The same for Range Rovers. The Jaguar XF models look like Daewoo Leganzas on the outside and are cheap inside; a Hyundai Accent's interior is as good. Second hand car dealers won't touch the very few Jaguars that might roll up on their forecourts. And yet, apart from the XF, they're the best cars to sit in and to drive. Nothing touches them. But they are, indeed, finished.
To be honest I'm surprised Tata keep pumping money into JLR to keep it alive. They're currently thinking about building a Gigafactory in Spain rather than the UK to make cells for JLR. I can see the brand dying a slow death.

Not shocking. Here in Edmonton (Canada) a brand new JLR dealer was built to about 70 percent completion 2 years ago, then seemingly right around when JLR sales flatlined and news broke of impending doom of the company, construction screeched to a halt.
Late last year, suddenly work began on the site again and its appearance changed….

We just sold our Range Rover sport because of the outrageous inflated service costs after 50,000 miles When we tried to buy a defender instead the dealer tried to do a $10,000 mark up. Get rid of the dealers!!

Back when I was born the XJ6 and XJ12 were recognised as the best saloon/ sedan cars in the world and yet still managed to undercut the competition from Mercedes etc. at the time. How things have changed, sadly for the worse.
The cheapest iPace in the UK on Autotrader is a 2019 model at a shade over £25k - down from around £44K a year ago.

They had better avoid going head to head with established cars and find some new models/designs.

My brother's black supercharged Type R had its v8 supercharged engine blow up at about 40k miles. It was completely destroyed. Luckily it was covered and they put a new engine in and sounds so incredible,, but kind of eye raising how much it would have cost if it wasn't covered, and it almost wasn't covered! It would of been bad...
The brand does stand behind its warranty. About $50k for a new engine.
@Paul Light Compare jaguars limited warranty with that of Porsche. Its similar price as Jaguar, but it has a 6 year, unlimited mileage, bumper to bumper warranty. The quality is much higher. Even the tires and wheels are covered under warranty with Porsche as an option. I've already had two P-Zero perrellis replaced for free under the warranty in the first six months from pot holes and a big screw. Much better than Jaguar. If my brother's engine blew up a little later, it would have made him hate Jaguar and sell the car. I'm afraid that will eventually happen anyway. I'd be scared to push the car out of warranty!! Not reliable. 😱 I would never keep a Jaguar out of warranty, but then again, who wants to have an engine blow up and have the car sitting at a dealership for 2 months? Hell no👎
@Paul Light the Porsche quality and warranty is miles ahead of Jaguar.
6 years, unlimited mileage, and added on the wheels and tires warranty, already had 2 new tires replaced in Los Angeles roads, pothole and a big metal screw. There's no way I would EVER buy a Jaguar. For the Type R, you'd be better off with a turbo 911.

This has been on the cards for a number of years now .
Jaguar sales have been getting smaller and smaller and the company have taken no mitigating steps whatsoever .
I have bought and owned six new Jaguar cars over a period of twenty years from 1995 to 2015, when I switched to a new Maserati until last year when I went EV in the shape of the new Genesis Electrified G80. This was the car that Jaguar should have been producing, a distinctive luxury saloon that looks nothing like the boring German premium brands, in fact thanks to the cheif designer at Genesis being ex cheif at Bentley, it often gets confused for a Bentley but at half the price (circa £80k)!
And this was always the thing that mase Jaguars unique, they looked far more expensive than they were, but unfortunately all that was thrown away with their new gen cars starting g with the XE and new model of the XF which in their desire to copy Audi looked somewhat down market, hence my switch to Maserati.
I have no doubt the new range of cars will appear as planned, but they will have to be something very special to start at over 100k. This after all is asking the Jaguar name to compete in a market sector that it's brand name never has had to before. Its a big 'leap' and whilst out of my price range I hope they are successful.

Zero chance that ICE will prevail in the future. EV S curve is just hitting the steep part of its S curve, no stopping the paradigm shift now. Legacy auto got caught with their EV pants down and failed to see how fast the decline of ICE would be while EVs rocketed in a much shorter time than most people realized.

Get one for your garage and dot go to local garage. That’s a special car, all the way up, I heard a v8 engine voice on a highway kyrenia, it was a curve between two mountains, coming towards but not recognized yet, and I asked , what is this sound. No amg no Porsche here, what is that sound ? And I found recent rear lights very successful. In my life I fall in love with 3-4 jags, two was on kyrenia road both black and cabrio. One was 50ies white and 1 in north london in red.
Never owned a jag, but have driven several and have always been a fan. Hope they are able to find their way and not go under. Definitely one of the automotive worlds most iconic brands.
Jaguar were the first luxury brand to release an all electric car. The i-Pace still looks gorgeous. I will be visiting Jaguar to buy one before prices increase.
In the US jaguars and Land Rovers have a reputation for poor quality and expensive repair bills. Sad because British car brands were rooted in car racing - performance and ride were its high points.
I would never buy a used Land Rover or A Jaguar.

I was so impressed Jaguar were first out the gate with a performance EV after Tesla but I had already been running my Tesla Model S P85 for 3 years and still 130,000 uk miles later loving the car, show me a Jaguar EV with the DNA of the iconic XLC that would be tough to resist.
I am in the U.K. and a Jaguar owner. My father had jaguars like the the mark 2 . Your mechanic was exactly right about Jaguar or at least the older ones. I had first an XJ40 then an XJ 8 sport and now a XJ6 SE All have lasted years and were well over 20 years old by the time they were changed. The current XJ6 is over 20 now and they are the most reliable cars I have ever owned as well as the most comfortable. It does have to be that classic shape though and petrol. I have driven the newer XF R sport and it was very nice but not the same. It's a shame Jaguar is being forced into these EV things which I feel in 10 years will become the Betamax of the car world. The tech isn't there and it is literally impossible to replace every car with an EV. No country has the electrical capacity to supply them and if you do not own a drive you have no chance. Maybe hydrogen but I would say to anyone but an older petrol Jag while you can and drive it until they arrest you for it or as they probably will do tax petrol until it's £100 a litre.
When you say 'current XJ6' and 'classic shape', do you mean the X350? If so I totally agree with you; it's a superb car. I've recently owned one and couldn't fault it.

Yes and I will admit they are a nice "toy" if you can afford one and don't need to rely on it. Also at the moment there are not that many so charging is easy especially if you have a nice drive way.

How will the countless thousands living in flats or terraced houses with no drives be able to charge theirs ??
They won't will they ? They can't even park near their house now. Or are the council going to dig up every terraced street and instal chargers every 10 feet.
I find the people who have EV's now to mostly be retired and or well off with an "I'm alright jack" attitude. No not sour grapes because I live in a small village and could charge an EV but I am thinking of everyone.
Add to all this the cables supplying the grid could not cope with everyone having an EV let alone here will all this electric come from ?

They are great cars a d reliable too. I can't see a 20 year old EV still going strong can you. I did prefer the straight 6 of my XJ 40 to be honest but wow the fuel bill on 4 L. The guy I bought that off good me I could get it down to a mile a gallon if I floored it but I never tested that. Never had to put my foot to the floor if I'm honest .120 was the most I ever took it then thought about losing my license lol.
@@robcarter55 I will freely admit evs aren't for everyone but I would imagine that the use case of the vast majority of car users does allow for an ev. Entry level evs now come with a range of 200+ kilometres which for many represents a week of commuting. Topping up at the office or on the highway should take care of vast majority of charging needs if one does not have access to home charging.

You are assuming the future is electric, I think this will not be the case. However I agree JLR days may be numbered, mainly because they have turned their products away from what their traditiona customers want. I know, I have had Jaguars and Land Rovers for over thirty years, but none of the current products appeal to me.
It's one of the most unreliable cars out there. The car is also glued together. They look great, but that's about it. 😢😢😢

Im not old enough to really remember Jaugar as a serious player. Ive just seen them go from niche to functionally non-existent.
Too bad you missed out on the mid-1960s Jaguar XKE, imho, the most beautiful sports car ever made, esp. the ‘64, which my good friend got as a college graduation gift after graduating from a US military academy.
I own a 2011 Jag XF , was looking into buying a newer one for ages now, but each new line is worse than old relic i own. In the end decided i will buy a Volvo s90 when my XF suffers from turbos, engine, or similar high cost repair, but the thing just wont die, and i floor it all the time on autobahn... I think they will never make then like they used to, and its a sad thing to see.
I share many sentiments as per comments below….. I too have had a Jaguar until last year (2022) but reliability issues were too compelling to consider another. I really enjoyed driving “Jaguar”…. It’s a feeling no other car provides…. But sadly, as aforementioned, cannot afford the damn nuisance electrics / issues that were so often needing specialist attention.
I love the Jag ipace but would also like it to have Tesla internals etc... regards
