Except for all the mistakes Rory made in his video - and there's plenty of them. It's just a poorly researched hit piece against Jaguar.
I'm German and the 3 best cars I have ever owned were Jaguars, first the XFst then I had an XE and now finally the F-Pace which is my current car. My family and colleagues drive nothing but BMW/Mercedes and too me these cars are just so common these days and nothing exciting. With Jaguar on the other hand, I find they have a much more luxurious feel/look and drive about them. None of my Jaguars have ever caused me a headache or let me down, can't say the same for my mothers or brothers BMW's. I for one hope Jaguar recover and suceed and to be honest I rather see less Jaguars on the road because looking down the road right now, every second car is a mercedes (in some form), it's just such a boring and common car, that my Jaguar feels very special around those :-D

I love jaguars ever since my grandfather drove his and used to pick me up from primary school, and now my dad had the I Pace, before he had the F Pace plug in but he got annoyed at having to charge it every night. I love the look of the F Pace, the I Pace, the XE the XF, the F Type maaaan I love jaguars ❤❤❤
I've owned 4 jaguars, one of which I still own, a 02 jag xjr. Back when they were classy, stylish and fast for a saloon. My xjr puts out 400 hp for a 02! Started at 370, pulleys etc bumped it up. I will never sell it was my dream car from my young years. Good luck to Jaguar. Get the spirit back to bring the brand back.

ive been inside a jag f type, and honestly its not really that great. But you dont buy an f type for interioe(although its nice, but now the best) you buy it for that supercharged v8. Give me 100 grand and its either the f type or a nissan gtr

I'd pick a Jag over a Nissan any day. The Nissan might have a more powerful engine, but it's still a Japanese car. A very good one, true, but Japan will never have the cachet and kudos of a Brit legend. And I'm not a badge snob. You may get a lot of car for your money buying a Lexus, but they will never top the class and standing of a German marque. Or a Jaguar.
My personal view? The Japanese simply can't match the styling of Jags or European cars. They're superb at rally cars, great at making cheap reliable commuter hatches. But you want a roaring, muscly performance car? Head to the UK or Germany.

@@rayhanrizvi334 Good point. They can't seem to rid themselves of that, can they? They've been pumping our desirable cars for decades. But those cars break down way too often. No longer acceptable.
I wonder if going up market is a mistake? Especially price-wise. The whole idea of Jaguar in their early-mid years was delivering a classy car with great engines & road-holding that were priced lower than Mercedes, Bentley, Maserati, etc. A great car for less money that the top echelon.
The average factory worker may not have had the money for a Jag, but they could get one when they reached management level, or even foreman. They didn't need to be chairman before they could buy a Jag.
That's what sold Jaguars for decades- a refined car with status that gave you a lot of features for a reasonable price. They found their niche and prospered.
Well said I think you're right. My dad had one and he ran his own business which did well but wasn't some national chain.
I loved jaguar for that reason growing up in one. I hope they stick around so I can also drive an electric Jag.

They've created sub-niches of perceived quality and status, even among Japanese brands. Mostly it's hype but it sells cars.
It makes it hard for car makers to find their customer base. The new liked feature that Mercedes has this year will be in next year's Golf and Mini, and in Vauxhall & Ford the year after, then Hyundai as well.
I think that's why brands like Rover struggled and Alfa- finding the right niche.
Go too luxurious and you lose customers ($$$), go too plain and you lose that cachet, some of your prestige.
So Rover tried different strategies and failed, so did Alfa. Up-market, down-market, and they did poorly.
Jaguar got it right a lot of the time. You want an I-Pace or a saloon?
They have to go up market. Petrol and hybrid sales are falling off a cliff, and EV sales are sold out for the year from all manufacturers.
Porsche spent billions on the Taycan and ended up with something that dated very quickly. Lucid spent billions and ended up with a nice car at 150k a pop they are sruggling to manufacture.
One of the few low volume car manufacturers that has high profit margins is Ferrari. If Jaguar can do limited runs of gorgeous cars to can see straight away will become collector items then they can create a comfortable business. Make them fun to drive.

Jaguar are remaking the E-type. Exactly as it was decades ago. At a couple of million £ a car, if I recall. Not as good a return as new/old Aston Martin DB5's at £6 million each, but perhaps a steady & sizeable income stream?
Next year in Australia, we get automatic ignition. No more getting out in the rain to turn the crank handle.
@@nevillewran4083 I watch the Electric Viking channel about EVs, and he is based in Melbourne and gives lots of Ozzie updates.
Petrol cars are being banned in Europe, and in my city it's already illegal to drive a petrol car pre 1998 or diesel pre 2005. This is going impact the capital appreciation of collector cars which will become track only cars. You might get away with a few limited series now but that time window is rapidly closing and it's not a sustainable model.

They're literally fixing everything that is not the problem. Their designs are amazing, same with performance, and technology, the issue is the reliability.
I've not had reliability issues with Jags or Range Rovers. Only minor electronics, but had worse with Audi, VW, Alfa's etc.

Ive had 2x jags and never had 1 an issue at all over a combined 4 year period. And if reliability was an issue why do range rovers sell so well. The problem is its been a copy cat brand rather than a trend setter. And that works for 2nd rate cheap brands providing a cheaper alternative to an expensive brand, but a premium price copycat...just no. And thats where jag have damaged themselves
@@amritbhupal8514 stop talking out of your ass. In customer reviews and studies like the the one from copilotsearch Jag has CONSECUTIVELY scored on the lowest 3 places for the last 5 years (couldn't find older data). Last year they've been scored on 29th of 32th place AGAIN.
Just because "your" car doesn't, doesn't mean 4/5 Jags won't break down once a year. Stop "MINE DIDN'T" with cars. You HAVE to look at the brand as a whole, not at "ONE" particular instance where it didn't. Stop cherry picking examples.
One of the reasons why businesses fail is because they are obsessed with the competition. So, most of their strategic decisions are based on the competition and not on their own business. You end up being driven and led by competitors and being at the mercy of their management. It's a never-ending catch-up situation. The management should focus on their own plan, what do they want to represent in the market, what do they want their product to mean for people. A vehicle is the second most expensive purchase for an individual after their mortgage. So you have to elicit certain emotions. Why should people want you?

Agree entirely. Jaguar was most successful when led by a team of engineers and an MD with a great eye for style eg in 1950s and sixties with Sir William, Bill Heynes, Lofty England Wally Hassan etc. There was a brief resurgence under Sir John Egan. Hope they can find their mojo again

The biggest trouble with Jaguar is their pricing, when I spec up E-Class, A6 and XF to similar levels the Jag is always far too expensive and slightly behind in tech
Five things about British automotive that are behind the rest is their engine, transmission, technology, reliability and resale value.
I fell in love with Jaguar as a kid thanks to the original Equalizer television show with Edward Woodward. The XJ6 of that era had an aggressive elegance unmatched by anything around me growing up in the U.S. Then I saw my first Jag E-type, and realized the XJ wasn’t some fluke. Of course, I was ignorant of the quality issues, but the impression stayed with me. Now I just hope they rediscover their unique design voice and survive.
I worked at a Jaguar dealership in the US in the 1995-2001" Ford era" in sales management, and would like to share my personal experiences. Jag was riding high on a justly earned reputation for vastly improved quality, and the cars had a style that marketed lovingly to Jag's history and DNA. I quickly realized that these wonderful cars ( this was pre X-Type...) were highly emotional things to their owners. It was very simple: if the prospective buyer was unmoved emotionally, they would go buy a Benz/Lexus/whatever. For the passionate prospect, " comparison shopping" simply didn't happen: anyone who started a line of inquiry involving statistics/pricing/features was responsed to with an amiable, studied indifference. If you "liked" another make more than Jaguar, than that is what you should get.....
If you fell madly in love at first sight, we were in good shape.
Jaguar can only hope to face a tumultuous auto market with cars that are intensely unique statements of identity.
It has worked just fine for Porsche.

The problem is that Jag’s today look like every other luxury car. They used to look different. Say what you want about Ford, but at least under them they looked different and not Lexus copycats.
Exactly right. Jags were always special because they were not Bentleys, Rollers, Benzs, Daimler Majestics, or what not....
That was the key to their marketing......
When they lost that special flavor, they were as good as dead.
Their S-type was a major blunder in styling. You can't half do retro. It was appalling.

At my store, XJs outsold S Types about 4 to 1.
Hell, XKs, which certainly what theologians would call " an imperfect vessel for God's love ", outsold S types, which I am fairly certain was not what the boys in Coventry had planned....thank goodness I got out before the arrival of the X types, which were such turkeys you should the buyer a case of cranberry sauce....
@@hughbarton5743 I wouldn't have had a front-wheel drive 2.1 X-type if they were free, I'd be too disappointed. But I've read the 3 litres weren't bad cars. Based on the Mondeo, so fairly good handling, gutsy (I've read) 3 litre V6, all wheel drive....
Never sat inside one, only walked past them, so know nothing. Please tell me, what was so bad?
If there's any company I hope survives, it's Jaguar. So much history laced with innovation and success. Too many people buy German when quite frankly their reliability is no better than anyone else's.

@@staLkerhu 60.000 miles on my XF and never had a problem. BMW 3 series, back to the dealers approximately every three months in the 18 months I owned it.
Yes, I have seen people complaining so much about reliability of Jaguar and it's sibling Land Rover but data shows that German brands have almost similar number of reliability issues.
Correct. I have had bad experiences with both BMW and Mercedes with poor reliability and expensive repairs. There appears to be a built in obsolescence in their products.
I am strongly against governments attempting to foist electric cars upon people for fictitious reasons.
They are costly and the battery remains a big problem.
My last car was a Puegoet RCZ. French cars get a bad rep for reliability but the only issues I had with that car was the German engine!
I fell in love with the design of the XE when I saw the first commercial and waited 3 years till I could get a used one for a price I could afford. I had Mercedes before, I still find Mercedes better interior-wise but outside design XE I still love. In Germany there aren't many dealerships around, so no wonder it seems exotic to people! You have to go far if you want to look at a Jag and most people already think it's a super expensive car anyway. Jag has the wrong image to what they wanted to become. It will be interesting to see if the new strategy, whill be a better fit.
I couldn't disagree with a single point your comment, I thought the XE was one of the best looking cars of the time, clean, simple an elegant design with that long bonnet and shorter tail.
For once many motoring magazines and personalities, rated the XE better than the ageing 3 series, and I had the pleasure of owning three. I needed some repairs made to my much loved A8 D3, 2nd gen, so I hired an XE, and the dynamics where spot on and of course beautiful from every angle, unfortunately the interior was a major fail, brittle cheap plastics everywhere. I thought to myself that Jaguar needs to get that fixed mid life refresh, and now it has such quality, but just four cylinders not their new straight six is just sad.
Jaguar won't have a future if cannot find its niche and producing more SUV's, stepping on cheaper Land Rover market makes no sense. For years I always they could go for the traditional road sports cars and salons, then offer their own Allroad or Cross Country alternative. Sadly many of our great European car manufacturers will disapear, with the war against CO2 and Germany self suiciding its world class manufacturing.
I've got an XKR 5.0 Litre supercharger. Its a fab car. Great build quality. All as tight as it was when new. Drives superbly.
Just left JLR today after 6 years working there. There has been massive change in the last few months with a new CEO and New engineering director. They seem to be doing the right things and come across as more modern leaders.

I'm sorry to hear this. Sales aside, they've been nailing it design-wise. The F-type coupe and F-Pace are my favorites, but there's really nothing in their line-up that I don't like.

Problem is in Netherland most expensiver cars are lease. When I checked Volvo cx40 vs Jaguar F-Pace the lease price was a lot lower for Volvo but the buy price was similar. So on the road here a lot Volvo cx40
How many people think somebody buys an F Pace because he cant afford a real Range Rover?
The F-type coupe is the only exiting car they produce. The rest of their cars are too safe design wise, they don't take any risks like BMW, Audi and mercedes do. They need to hire different designers that will do something out of the ordinary for them.
Unfortunately I predict that Jag will fail again. I remember the days when you needed to own two of them; one to drive while the other was in the shop. I doubt that there is sufficient residual desire for a great Jag.
Quality and reliability. 2 watchwords of premium brands that Jaguar utterly fail at. I want my car to spend more time on the road than it does at the dealership. For relaunch No4 to succeed, Jaguar need to sort this out.
If they want to compete with Porsche, they have to design a car that literally blows the pants off people. Not something "safe", but something in the E-type territory. Otherwise, I think they'll end up next to SAAB.
This. Porsche have pulled ahead massively and have left Jag in the dust. The VAG effect I guess
SAAB's were one of the best made cars but still... It's tragic really. I still own a black 9-3 2001. Very sexy and fast car. Saving my money to restore it completely and also lower it a bit ;)

Having spent many years as an independent Jaguar specialist working on all of the models from C-Type to I-Pace, I have seen the many reincarnations regarding design and engineering and worked with many of those previously at the top within Jaguar.
Jaguar was at the top of the JD Powers manufacturers list in the late naughties with some great cars, designed by Ian Callum, and engineered by Mike Cross, a great combination. Jaguar management was swiftly replaced by Land Rover management and LR's 'that will do' from management to dealer attitude quickly set in.
With the introduction of the new aluminum XF, XE, and F-Pace. inferior quality interiors, poor quality Ingenium engines became common complaints. LR's poor attitude to these complaints may have been commonplace with LR owners, but was not acceptable with repeat Jaguar owners. The introduction of joint dealerships did not help the matter.
Having recently seen the refreshed models, quality is now where it should have been, and reliability levels are yet to be assessed. Jaguar should be left to build their own product, to their standards, retain their DNA, and be allowed to compete within their own marketplace, not suppressed by LR.

Yes, that's a great assessment. this is nothing to do with "failed relaunches", they were doing OK until the change in management and dealerships. The latter in particular soon gained a poor reputation and I know a couple of people who decided not to consider Jaguar because of the poor dealership reputation.
Bit of a shame EVs are about to take over and change everything again because anything could happen. I've recently had a look at the latest model and they're definitely back on track again.
Not suppressed by LR? Lol. It is a TINY company. Jaguar IS Land Rover, and vice versa. Same group of people, with two separate offices down the hall from each other. You talk like they are independent of one another. They barely have any designers left. The relaunch will fail, as it always does. It is a badly tarnished marque. Thanks British Leyland. The lack of attitude at some dealers as 'good enough is good enough' and 'what are you complaining about' that I've seen around really hurt the brand for me. I mean, you are buying or already bought a Jaguar, you expect something else than what you get from a BMW or any Mercedes.
@@stanleymasterson1135 I can't agree with that. Most buyers these days will have never even heard of British Leyland. If anything, in recent times it's Ford's attempt to try to make them into a people's brand a-la their own cars that did the most recent damage. Over the past ten years they have been generally very well received, and sales were increasing albeit not as quickly as they had hoped but the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns has skewed everything. Any product or business that fails from now own will be as much to do with the pandemic as anything else, it's inevitable.
I was senior quality engineer at JLR - your narrative is amazingly accurate and precise JLR was surpassed with a culture of profit against research and greed.
I own a 2018 Jaguar F Pace S and love it. Had I known the V8 SVR version was coming I’d have waited to get the 550hp SVR F Pace. If Jaguar goes all electric they will go bankrupt.
I used to own a Jag XJ here in Canada. If it weren't for the extended warranty on that car, I would have had to file for bankruptcy. My car was going to the garage every 3 months because something or the other just kept on breaking. I don't think the quality of their manufactured units can command that price point. Ohh also, horrible horrible customer service.
The britisch have a great sense of humor and great music, but they suck at making cars for as long they making cars!
You should watch Doug DeMuro's videos about his Range Rover. He bought it second hand with an extended warranty, from Car Max. Car Max paid out something like $13,000 in repairs!

@@3DPeter They don't suck, more than just Jags and Land Rovers are British car, look at McClaren, Lotus, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin and Bentley, they are revered throughout the world.

that has 500k miles on it and it's still in a fair condition, because by that time they are total wrecks. And even old rolls royces are just crap
because they did rust just as hard as a morris mini, and the paint start to crack, the leather seats crack, the clear coat on the wooden panels
crack, the electrics ( all lucas crap) suck harder than from italian cars, so the brits just can't built reliable cars.
Jaguars of old always punched above their weight. Sir William understood the importance of value relative to the competition. Going all electric is a tricky one, but moving Jaguar to a mega priced brand is bound to fail, especially since the brand has diluted its brand over the years.
Totally agree. Trying to move upmarket with a brand whose reputation is already tarnished means they can't just rival Porsches and Bentleys, they have to exceed them. Best strategy would be to follow the Koreans: overdeliver at the same price point until the brand image improves, then try to command higher sticker prices.

They are stuck. They can’t compete in the 4x4 market as that’s where their sister company is, they can’t compete in the comfy and fast saloons as that’s where Audi, BMW, MB are, they seriously can’t compete with Bentley or Porsche. Where do they go? They don’t have an identity, you’re correct, it’s been diluted by years and years of trying to reinvent themselves. Kids don’t care about the E type, what’s going to sell 500,000 units every year. It takes a brave man but you forget the Jaguar past and go small, compact, not flashy, cheap, light, city car, reliable, connected. But WTF do I know.
Exactly. An E-Type was half the price of a DB4, went as fast and looked much better.

I worked on the manufacturing lines for Jaguar during the late 80's. Sitting in the seat of a just built XJS V12 5.3 0r 6.0ltr was an amazing feeling.
Owning an 1992 XJS. It is an amazing feeling still. Recent Jaguars not so much.
I am now 76 years old and have always had Jaguars my first one was a 2.4 mk1 when I was 19 followed by sevearal mk2s and xj6s. I currently have an x type diesel estate which I feel attempted to continue with the classic jaguar styling but that has now gone the way of many of our traditions. I like the x type and take exception to those who constantly criticise it. I probably will never buy another jaguar again as a matter of principle. The new styling has departed too far from what I personally think is jaguar classic looks. rant over.
I think the F type was a successful launch. It is a beautiful car with so much unique, exciting touches. I really love my F type. Jaguar needs some good marketing on what makes Jaguar special and new designs of their own to back that reputation up
Jaguar has always been one of my favorite brands, starting with my 2006 X-Type 3.0 sport manual, then my 2008 XJ and then a 2012 XF. All of them were supremely reliable and gorgeous cars. The 2016 XF was a beautiful redesign. I spotted a 2016 XF S the other day and it looked so fresh.... the F-pace was a Smash Hit but they really dropped the ball with the E-Pace. The i-pace though should have sold much better than it did, initially it was too expensive and they did lower the price, but I am surprised that it was a flop....
I was intrigued by the E-type and those that came earlier when I was a teenager. Today, here in this region of the world, Jaguar means a very expensive car that doesn't worth the money. Those who owns one will end up in an ordeal when it comes to servicing. Parts are rare and there is always a long wait. This is what I have gathered.
I love my Jaguar XF-S Portfolio 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo - pound for pound, offers way more than the competition.
And one of the best if not the best looking Estates/Shootingbrake/Wagons ever

@@sol0matrix Trust me my XF-S Sportbrake might be a big car but it still can get a right strop on when you unleash the big stick.
For reference my other car is a Porsche 981 Boxster S and the Jag doesn't feel like a grandad car compared to it.
I have the same ... and I also love it. I hope Jaguar pull through and I think all electric is inevitible and a sign they're looking forwards not backwards ... as long as they keep to the spirit of Jaguar, work on their strengths and stop trying to out-German the German makes because that's a guaranteed losing strategy (as they've clearly discovered!).
I feel like Jaguar is having the same problem as Chrysler. Except the cars are exceptionally more good looking.

I can see your point, but I believe Jag is in slightly better position. F-Type and F-Pace are competitive products, E-Pace and I-Pace a little less so, but at least the have a wider model range than Pacifica and 300 in Chrysler's case.
The main hurdle in Jag's case is a reliability stigma, which can be helped by going electric.
Chrysler is also going the other way (premium-mainstream) rather than upmarket
@@ericokompatzki7110 Jaguar has always had electrical issues and going "electric" will not suddenly fix that, if anything it will exasperate the problem further. Now the F-Type is a nice looking car but the exterior paint is bland, interior is cheap looking and the reliability is awful. I am a big Jag fan and would love to buy a new Jag to support the company but the current offerings are not worth my hard earned coin.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 yes, but I'd be willing to bet most people think about 'mechanical' issues as the main cause of problems. And given one of the common frases tossed around about electric cars is that they have less moving parts an thus less points of failure (whether true or not, that's another topic), I do think it can help,specially if I-Pace, though not exactly popular, isn't seen as unreliable.
And about the F-Pace, the face-lift has received praise for its interior as up to par with the germans.
@@ericokompatzki7110 The I-Pace has not been around long enough to determine long term reliability (5+ years) so time will tell. It's battery warranty is not as good as Tesla's: (8 years/100,000 miles vs. 8 years/Unlimited mileage). And while electric cars do have less moving parts, they do require sophisticated software programming which are now today's 'points of failure' (buggy software). Not all cars are programmed equally, some better than others. Let's hope Jaguar didn't commit corporate suicide by going all electric.

The best Jag of recent years was the XKR, so what do they do, they stop production. Inept management which is synonymous with British Car Manufacturing.
Rory Jags are lovely cars, supreme beasts! But the auto market has been crazy for past 2 to 3years. Too many machines out there for buyers to choose from. I saw this coming. The F-PACE for instanse was grossly under appreciated even though it was quite classy in terms of build quality. Jaguar needs to fight back to their former glory!
Sorry but no. Jags 'were' lovely cars in the past, and those days are long gone. Their latest offering are awful. Uninspiring exterior designs, bland color palette, poor materials, and to top it off the company decides to commit corporate suicide by going all-electric. I ama Jaguar fan but they have absolutely nothing in the showroom today for me to buy.
F-pace is nice but doesn't age well, just look at glc-class, until now glc-class still looks so good
F-Pace have the impression that the metal body is thin and cheap, even the cheaper car like cx-50 looks better

I've owned 5 Jags in the past 7 years, including 3 XJ's and now an i-Pace. The i-Pace is alllllmost an extraordinary car, it's crazy fun to drive, but... it's interior is nice but not truly luxurious, the cabin is noisy enough to be distracting at highway speeds, and the ride on city streets is continually jostling, it never settles. I had high hopes for the electric XJ but it wasn't to be. I've moved on, but wouldn't hesitate to revisit the brand if they came out with a truly luxurious car that checked all the boxes and sits far above the 'lower-tier prestige' level of Lexus and Infiniti, a level it just barely sits above right now.

Great stuff, love the i-Pace, our next door neighbours have his ( green ) & hers ( red ) matching i-Pace on the drive, certainly great looking machines, I would have one if I could afford.
thats the problem. I have seen the f type, jags flagship car, its interior is good, but not great. i can argue that an acura is more luxurious now(i have been in quite a few new acuras, from the tlx to the mdx) but that supercharged v8 is just so good! give me 100 grand and its either the f type or a gtr.

That Jaguar XKE platform was legendary! I have a relative with one since I was a boy (‘74 v12 manual convertible) and to this day, it has only 19,000 miles on it.

I own a f type and my mate has a f pace and both are fantastic cars, when jaguar announced it was going all electric for me and many other jaguar enthusiasts it's the final nail in there coffin. An F type isn't just about the visual looks its also about the noise the same as any other good sports car one of those porsche ev things came down the road the other day sounded like a washing machine on high spin it may as well of been a kia or Nissan leaf. I will hold on to my f type as long as I have breath in my body.

I agree. I've got Jags amazing 5.0 V8 in my XFR and I know a Tesla is quicker but I don't care, that howling V8 and screaming supercharger add so much to the experience

Being a previous owner of the 2019 jaquar XE I can surely tell you they are beautifully designed with great handling however the engine choices was the biggest issue instead of streamlining the engine they started off with the 4 Cylinder turbocharged version which was faster then a based Dodge Charger I know because I use to beat chargers all the time but they really should have kept the v6 supercharged version that was the sweet spot. When people seen me pushing it they was surprised how fast it was which met Jaquar was doing a horrible job at marketing. It’s a shame to see such an iconic brand struggle on the other hand Jaqs was never met to be a mass produce product buyers want Exclusivity.
They developed the twin turbo Ingenium straight 6 that they said could fit in all of their cars. It could make 500+ hp. So, after all of of that money they spent on R&D, they didn’t put that engine in the XE, but put it in the Range Rover.

I worked as a tech at a Jaguar dealer in the early 90's the XJ6 and the XJS sold like crazy, we weren't a big dealer and we still sold 50 to 60 a month.

I have owned a Saloon III, an XFR, and an XJL with the big supercharged V-8. I loved all three, and the latter two were incredibly reliable. I drive an S-Class now because the XJ disappeared, and I have no interest in an electric car. When Jaguar announced "all electric" they lost me forever.

I think their initial Interiror quality was it's downfall. The XE, XF, and F pace had sooo much creaky plastic when they first launched. They should have launched with the refreshed interiors they have now.
Have you sat in the newest models? They are actually impressively luxurious . Mercedes like feel but with its own individuality

@@commasNculture Luxury is not the same as quality. The lack of build quality and the reputation for unreliable vehicles is still the hallmark of JLR. Just look at reliability surveys and customer reports available.
Despite decades of promises to improve reliability they are still producing vehicles like the Defender with problems - regardless of which country they are built in.
@@commasNculture Lol I have sat in new Jaguars and we've owned some in the past my dad also had a v12 jaguar I forgot the model name its from the 80's or early 90's ( I can check no worries). The interior is not even close to good enough to their competition. Their interior competes with Cadillac not BMW or Mercedes let alone Porsche. Reliability is also terrible any Jaguar owner I know including friends parents growing up have told me its their last Jaguar when I compliment them. I used to love Jaguar, but the only Jaguar I like is the F Type. The problem I have is Jaguar has that classic hard leather interior, which doesn't age well in terms of both comfort and looking good without ripping etc. Two owners ik had ripped seats and one in the rear seats. They don't hold up strong.
When you are stepping into german luxury territory and they non stop kill the game. Unless you match their level you need to be cheaper for your own sake of success until you CAN match up. Instead Jaguar just stayed firm at their price if anything got more expensive over time. This clearly didn't age well lol as when you have people leaving the brand lets be real... that's how you know its dead. The only people left are just old heads who buy a Jag because its a Jag. I have one friend with an F Type R and that's the ONLY person ik with a Jaguar and I grew up around kids who drive GTR's, Rolls Royces, G Wagons, Benz, BMW, etc.
My brothers first car was a Jaguar and even he sold it within 1-2 years of owning it lol. It wasn't really that comfortable for him being 6'2-6'3 with the seat all the way down.
This company honestly.. just sucks. Its like Tesla, but take away the gimmicks and the quick 0-60 times... You just have a garbage basic car lol.
After years of BMW 3 series, I bought the latest XE (2021) and I love it. The XE handles like a dream and the interior is finally classier than a 3 series but the boot is still tiny and the top engine is only 300bhp and it weighs a tonne so only gets 0-62 in 6sec and I'm getting 17mpg around town. Style-wise they only just got it right with the facelift version that launched in 2019, but this was during the pandemic and semiconductor shortage. I think it was too little to late for the reputation of the car by then because the pre-2019 version looked very dated even at launch and the interior was a joke. However, the XE is probably still the best handling Saloon on the market today.

For me, the most important thing about early jags - right up to the xj220 - was that nothing else looked like them. They were instantly recognizable as a Jag. And then, there was the forward thinking technology which may or may not have succeeded but they were always pushing forward. Maybe it’s time to stop looking at the competition and just build greatness. Grace, Space, and Pace.

Much truth in that. I've been a 'car nut" all of my life, and except for 3-4 makes, I can no longer rapidly distinguish one from another. Here in the states, Jaguar has always had an astonishing reputation for failure, and rust. I recall an aunt who purchased an XJ6 in its early days. It spent 5 of its first 6 months at the dealership. As soon as the warranty ran out, my uncle had the six replaced with a Chevrolet V8. After that, my aunt motored happily on for a number of years.
I'm really going to miss the F-Type with it's V8, incredible sports car and value for money compared to the more expensive rivals.
I won't miss it - I'm never going to get rid of mine! And would I spend £100,000 on a Jag? Well, no, but I bought a used one that was over £100k when it was new.

Here in Canada it's difficult to find a used XE and in the last 5 years since production stopped there has been zero depreciation. I almost bought a new one the last year of production for $42,000 and now that same car (diesel version) with 80K is $40,000

Reliability issues for all 3 up to and including one which caught fire (thrown rod through the engine block), but it's still one of the most memorable cars I've ever owned

@@davidpeters6536 That would actually make sense, but nope was doing about 82 on the freeway. Not quite the speed limit but nothing too crazy. The check engine light was on and off intermittently so I took it for a quick spin to see if I could get it to trigger so I could use my OBD scanner. Long story short, check engine came on, I heard a loud THUD, check engine light then started blinking and I could see an amber glow coming out from under the car. Barely pulled it over safely, when I stopped the fire was just getting serious but I had no way to put it out do it totalled the car.
In my photos I could clearly see a rod had snapped and where, this car had been in the dealership on and off for 3 months prior to the loss.

Have have been a Jaguar fan all my driving life. I have had 15 XJ's and loved them. They are great cars so what has gone wrong. I now have a Bentley Fling Spur but my last 2018 JX was better in many ways.

I currently own a 2011 XJL Supercharged and it is a superb car. I'd love it if I could get an electric one.
The brand's biggest problem here in the States is its dealers. They're horrible, especially the service centers, where I was told I needed to spend $1600 to replace front rotors and pads that had only been on the car for 3000 miles. Those lying crooks are one of the reasons Jags have a bad reputation for reliability here.
It would appear that Jaguar dealers and service centres have a bad reputation in quite a few places. The ones here in Australia are absolutely horrific to deal with.
Terrible. I drive Jags and ror this rason use specialist a independent mechanic but my parents driving new BMWs and Mercedes have had terrible service and rip-off from the respective agents. It seems to be common among many makes. I stopped using the agents when one major service was so high I could have bought a good seven-year-old Jag XJ for the same cost.
I really felt Jaguar were under-appreciated during the Ford period.
- XJ: became the best-driving car in its class when it adopted aluminium construction (ahead of everyone else, I think?), and set a new standard for luxury interiors when the 2009 model launched (during the Tata period admittedly, but it was designed during Ford ownership).
- X-Type: I had one of these, and it was fantastic. Best-sounding/most fun diesel I've driven, great ride, decent handling, nice interior, highly capable touchscreen nav years before most other companies were doing it. The amount of fuss over the Mondeo relationship was ridiculous: partly because the Mondeo was a good car anyway, partly because platform sharing is common in the industry, and partly because Jaguar did make the X-Type a very different car. Apparently the two cars only shared 20% of components.
- S-Type: I had one of these too, and it basically did everything the X-Type did, about 20% better. Wasn't crazy about the styling, but it's another decent car.
- XK: fantastic. The first car of the 21st century to take on Porsche's 911 directly, but smartly they didn't try to do exactly the same thing, they focused on making the XK more of a comfy tourer. It's aged very well and still looks gorgeous today, inside and out.
- XF: the last Ford-era Jag and probably the best. At a time when German interiors all looked like coffins, the XF set a new standard which raised the game for everyone else. Enjoyed sitting in a car over the last decade? You've probably got the XF to thank for it. I still think it's one of the nicest interiors of anything I've driven. Also was the first car in its price range with nav as standard, one of the first with a touchscreen as standard, and the ride and handling were superb. Engines were a bit behind (aside from the top-spec supercharged V8), but other than that, I think it was the best car in its class.
It all started to fall apart around the time when they decided to cancel the X75 supercar, the most groundbreaking thing they'd done in decades. Immediately after that they started making cars with interiors *worse* than the competition rather than better, exteriors styled to look alike with each other *and* the competition, and copied the German tradition of micro-segmentation (which those companies can only get away with because their volumes are so vast). Personally, I think the I-Pace is the only impressive thing they've done this decade - but the brand value is so far into the toilet at this stage that even that car isn't able to sell well.
I hope they're able to create innovative and different cars again. Jaguar has one of the best and most interesting back catalogues of any volume manufacturer - arguably *the* best - yet the brand's been mismanaged into having shockingly little value.

Probably because car journalists keep saying that they're unreliable... I don't think the marque is no more unreliable as Mercedes or Audi's. Mercedes - electric window problems, air suspension, engine mounts, automatic gearbox issues. Audi's - timing belts, electrical components, exhaust component failures. BMW - electronic dash failures, steering wheel failures... the list continues. All cars have problems, yet journalists always comment on Jaguar and not the others as much. Just a thought.
Reliability is the issue. I loved my My 2019 I-PACE. Four years later I cannot find a proper replacement for it as far as design and driving dynamics. JLR however squandered whatever EV advantage they had over its German luxury rivals.

The iPace has been a disappointment over here in Norway. It's a really nice car to look at, nice inside (like all Jags), and by all accounts it's good to drive too. But it's terribly inefficient, doesn't charge anywhere near as fast as it's rivals, and the infotainment system was really slow and laggy at launch. The outcome was that people test drove the iPace and bought an e-tron.
Worked on Project 8, Sold in the UK and only available as LHD ! Madness!

If they wanted to win people over, they couldve done the following:
1) Offer a long term warranty on their cars from the start (3-5 years) to prove their reliability
2) Undercut pricing of their vehicles compared to germans, along with servicing
3) Keep consistency with their interior. The first gen XE interior was awful! Even first gen XF had much nicer interior.
4) Keep up with the market trend. It took Jaguar a number of years later to consider a 4x4 when people like Porsche, and many others were all over it.
5) Make an actual "killer" car that shames the competition. Jags were always the under dog, but then you got alfa who released the Guila Quadrifoglio which beats the BMW M3 in certain areas.
6) Lose the bloody ford engines!
7) Very poor finance deals because of its depreciation factor. Find a way to resolve this.
I do hope Jaguar do succeed with their new rebrand. Having owned them, they are fantastic cars without a doubt, but they need something that sets them apart from the competition. Being "special" isnt going to cut it.

The V8 is only paid by Ford. Design & engineering wise, it has been a Jaguar V8 since its 4.0 guise. The Ingenium series of engines is all Jaguar designed and engineered too. But yes, I agree with all else you said. It's sad, as a Jag fan to see Jag in such a state.
On your point of a killer model the Giulia QV was a great car but didn't kill the M3. A lot of the praise that was heaped on the Giulia QV I think was just because it was an Alfa and people are so desperate for them to be good.
However, nobody bought them because they were an Alfa. Alfa like Jaguar people regard them as unreliable that and their dealer network by most accounts is awful.
The M3 has always been king of that hill not even Mercedes with the C63 or Audi with their RS's has managed to kick M3 off that hill. Giulia QV was an interesting challenger and it definitely shook up the order. But it was never going to replace the M3 as the king of that hill. It is like the Lexus RCF that car good it had a lovely engine but its chassis was crap and it was overweight but nobody bought it.
Whether it was the last gen model or this generation of M3. Simply put the M3 probably sells in a month what the Giulia QV does in 1-2 years. Hell even the Audi RS5/4 struggles to match the volume that the M3 sells.
Yeah it might be unfair but BMW has always been king of that hill... M3 and M5 are basically the benchmark of the class for those two sizes of saloons.
Let’s not let truth get in the way of a good story. The Giulia is a great vehicle but it doesn’t “OWN” an M3. I think part of the praise for the Giulia is recognition for Alfa’s heroic efforts to step up to the plate.
@Alfred Wedmore thing is Porsche Cayennes journey started before the VAG group got their hands on Porsche which was in 2011.
Jaguars has the sister company RR in which they couldve made a 4x4 long ago. F Pace was only one 4x4 by Jaguar. There was a bigger 4x4 planned by Jaguar called the J Pace which was supposed to be the XJ of 4x4s for Jaguar.
In terms of money, JLR is owned by Tata, a goliath of a company, so I think some of things i mentioned couldve been fulfilled i.e. a longer warranty then their competitors.
I do take back the comment about Alfa. The Guilia was faster then the M3 in certain areas, but lacked in other areas such as build and reliability. Jaguar didnt even have that under its belt. It was an underdog in almost everything. It needs a staple that give its brand definition. If you hear Jaguar, first few thing that comes to mind are "grand dad car, old mans car, unreliable" even though its not any of those things any more. Its also the only car brand that utilises 2 logos on a car, both a leaper and growler.
Again, i do hope Jaguar gets it together. When you watch videos of an F Type and a Project 8 which are Jaguars flagship cars being matched by a german estate like a E63 Amg, its shocking and how behind they actually are.
Having spent close to $100K for a 2020 Jaguar FPace SVR, I have not have one moment of regret. Opening up the exhaust gates, flipping it into Dynamic mode brings the full brunt of the 575 HP onto the road, and I have sadly surprised innumerable Porsches, BMW, and every American muscle car except for the Hellcat (and even that driver was left bug-eyed as we passed through 155mph). Firing it up in the morning gives me a feeling not far off (but not quite as hormonal) from when I would push the start button on my XK150 coupe after the SU fuel pump came up to pressure, roaring through the gears with a primeval urgency. Jaguar needs to produce cars that leave you with that "Holy Sh*t!" feeling, like the first time I drove the SVR and was doing 138mph before the end of the entrance ramp. The person in the passenger seat asked me why I was laughing my ass off: "Because I am going to end up in jail!" I chortled happily...
Exactly I have an f Pace SVR, even faster and definitely makes people grin (or say good grief if they are faint hearted). The difficulty is behaving so you don't lose your licence.

I too love my FPace SVR. It's the ultimate sleeper. It feels so planted at those high speeds. Carves the mountain roads like it's on rails.

I owned Jaguar XF (2015) and F Pace (2018). I loved both the cars. Great handling. No maintenance issues. Really sad to see it did not do well. Unfortunately Jaguar does not have the scale and size of BMW / Mercedes to be able to compete with them. They were also unfortunate, invested in diesel technology which fell out of favor after VM dieselgate.
I always wanted a Jag you are but bought an Evoque instead and I was happy with that, during the Evoque's service the dealer lent me a new Jag and it was then that I realised I had chosen well.
I drove Jags for 16 years up until last year - the mk1 XF was the best car I ever owned, the f-type the best all round functional piece of kit I could find. Only moved because of the lack of new models. Always found them stylish, sporty, comfortable and good value for money - equivalent spec German rivals were easily £10k more expensive, and the Jaguar reliability was way ahead of the Germans ( I once owned a German car that was back in the garage for 36days (on 10 different occasions ) in the first 5 months since I bought it new. It is the only car that nearly killed me - fuel pump packed in on the outside lane of a busy motorway - consequently I vowed never to buy a German car ever again ).
I have had 3 jags: 1 1990 XJ-S V12 (I still have it), an X350 V6 Petrol, and an X358 V8 Petrol (I still have it).
There have been several factors that have always distinguished Jaguar: luxury; style; performance; handling; affordability. If those factors are no longer what people want then kill the brand, and create a new brand with the desired factors.
I am also a biker, with a classic Norton, but have been disappointed with old bike brands trying to attract new buyers to old values. It has never worked.

Jaguar is the most slept on car brand of all time 🔥 I’ve owned a Mercedes E Class and a BMW 3 series, and I’ll take my Jaguar XF every time. I love German cars, but jaguar just has so much character and really makes you feel like you’re driving something special
Have had a few Jaguars over the years, but after my last experience of their customer service I will never buy another. Issue with the car less than 1 month after warranty period (boot hinge falling off due to manufacturing issue) - they completely ignored this and wanted over £1K to fix it. Never had an issue like this with a BMW no matter what the age.
Yes, it’s the dealerships killing the cars not the manufacturers. It has always been this way.

Not other Car Brand made a Super Sedan, were a Driver and Passengers sit as low as in a genuine Sportscar.
Till Jaguar decided to make the XJ X350 design different.
I always wanted a Jaguar, but I am very happy with my Super V8 .
I like how the J-Gate offered the Driver the ability to drive the car more sportive.

Still loving my XE after more than 5 years. Probably my last Jag though, especially if it's true about prices going up markedly. I chose the XE back then over the German competition for one simple reason - why fly a Messershmidt when you can have a Spitfire?
Extremely sorry to hear about this and Jaguar is definitely one of my favourite car brands (VW has that honour), when I'd seen that svelte and "beyond attractive" F Type Coupé - sat in it whilst attending a motorshow some years ago - instantly became a vehicle I wanted.
Along with that small executive saloon "XE", I'd go as far to say that the issue of 'sport' should be dropped and more focus elsewhere : as described at the beginning, venerable S Class was mentioned and no talk about 'sport' ever gets stated and that could be a likely explanation why Jaguar is in a difficult situation.
Great shame as they've produced a lot of good vehicles : including the XJ Coupé in 70's, 80's and possibly 90's.
Jaguar's are very nice cars indeed especially the XE and the XF are both my favourite Jags however, people ignore it and by a BMW instead.
People were not convinced by BMW like Jags (although it was fair attempt in my view), how on earth will anyone be convinced to jump in at Bentleys price point after 4 year hiatus?
I think they will be IF Jaguar present cars with a compelling design and luxury features.
I got rid of my e-pace last month and I'm so glad to be done with them, never again. Price gouging at every step and they're vastly different post-sales vs pre. I did a total 180 and own a Nissan now.
I had the 2014 XF 3.0 v6 AWD and it was hands down the best car I ever owned. Not expensive, stupidly powerful, massively comfortable. Never had a single problem. Today I drive a RR Velar, which is great, but I think I need some Jag in my life...need to get an F-Type for the weekend I think.
I had a jaguar and it was the most reliable car I ever had, so at least for me the problem is not reliability. At least in Bulgaria, the problem is pricing. A few months ago I was looking for a new car and went to different dealerships. Jaguar XE was more expensive than equal bmw and mercedes. Another problem for me is that Jaguar somehow lost a bit of its uniqueness- newer Jaguars look like VW products. I do hope Jaguar survives this crisis.
The West is headed for extinction ... Jaguar is just caught up in the march into self-destruction.
I own a 2006 4.2 v8 sovereign, which I bought in 2019. It has been reliable like my Honda civic 1.6 2003 model lol. Always took her to a jaguar specialist for m.o.t/services and repairs.
@Emad M, that's my experience, I have owned bmws,7,5 series, Mercedes S,E, class, rover and a polo. And the Honda and this jaguar ( my dad owned jaguar's since 1982 till 00' ) have been very reliable in all aspects. Apart from the usual bits and bobs which all car's go through it's been pretty much stress free.
Well if you lot in motoring press, stop blowing up German brands ass's.
A Jaguar specialist, not a main dealer, that makes a difference I am sure.
@@Hattonbank, yes it does especially on the cost. And most of the time a specialist will have the mechanics that worked on the car's while in production ( I live in the UK and the specialist I use, used to work for jaguar when the x308/x358 were in production ). Not saying going to a main dealer you won't find a technician that won't be able to work on older jaguar's.
@@warishussain82 Other important factors, you get to know the technician at a specialist, you never get to see them at the main dealer, you see some smartly dressed front office person in the showroom instead.And the cost! Specialists are £60 per hour, main dealers are £120 - £150 per hour and upwards and charge top Dollar for parts.
Same applies to all brands, main dealers are gold plated enterprises. If you have a good trusted technician, stick with him.

I was previously an owner of German and Japanese car brands, and have made the switch to a Jaguar XF, and all I can say is WOW JAGUAR 😍🤩🤤 The Jag is another level up from them, stunning interior, epic performace and more reliable than my OLD honda Civic. Already planning my next hybrid or electric Jag 😎👌

I had a 2010 Jag XK. Beautiful car! I had to get rid of it due to the obscene maintenance costs. Oil change with the same oil as my Toyota for 4 times the price. Plastic cooling part between the heads leaking fluid, three thousand to repair. I got rid of the car, not worth the trouble.

I have a jaguar xe 2017 and it's the only car that I like the look of. I used to park next to a Bentley Continental GT 2016 and people like the look of my car more. Jaguar has some truly great design.
I love my I-pace. It’s a Jag and it’s electric. I bought it for those two reasons. People buys Jags because they are Jags. They are well designed, well manufactured and they stand out of the crowd. I think that as long the company keep that in mind there will be people choosing Jag over any other car.
Your i-Pace is well manufactured because is made by Magna Steyr in Austria and not by Jag...

Tested the Tesla and the Mercedes, but fall in love with the Jag and the 250 miles range. The quality is absolutely amazing, unlike the Tesla or the Mercedes.
Soooo happy with my choice.
My friend's I-Pace has spent more time at the dealers than with him.

Tbh, I found Jaguars design the most appealing. The understated austeric design was in a league of its own and subjectively speaking, the best.
Anyhow, revival is more important than general aesthetics and Jaguar has my well wishes for the future.
I owned a 2016 XE diesel. Loved the exterior style my first Jaguar after many German brands. However just traded it in the engine was heading to expire despite correctly servicing and care. Ingenium I have since learnt is a terrible unit so I’m Back with a BMW totally different quality I’m sad to compare I sincerely hope Jaguar survives but not with Tata cutting costs. Thank you

My XE is my fourth Jag, and it’s great, the first XF was a really good looking car, but the current XF is just boring. So I have had an X Type, 2 XF’s first design mk2, the face lift before the current model and now a 2020 XE, which has been the best built out of all of them, but it looks like my days are numbered if Jag goes up market, I’ll have to go for one of the smaller Range Rovers. I did have BMW’s before I had the Jag’s, I thought they were over rated, and my recent experience with the 3 series confirmed the XF is a better drive and better built. Sad to think I will no longer be able to afford a Jag 😢
Good luck to them. I hope they pull it out of the bag. I loved my 16 reg XF which definitely outhandled a BMW, but the nav/entertainment system was slow and clunky, the service and maintenance costs were higher than German brands and whatever they did in programming the ZF auto box, they royally screwed that up compared to BMW!
I've not driven an XF, but have to say the ZF box in my V8 F-Type is brilliant. It reads my mind as to when to shift, couldn't do it myself any better!
I really wish that Jaguar will succeed this time for good. I love their design, they really stand out. Imo they did some terrible business mistakes the last years, even trying to jump on the electric market too early maybe. Nothing like Jaguar F-Type and how it sounds. Your review of the yellow F-Type 2020 is just epic.
The biggest issue I have, like many others, is that... no matter what I will do, without side trading/investing it will be impossible for me to ever really own anything like a 100k euros new car. I don't live and work in one of the few high salary countries in Europe. I want a family and at least 2 kids, be able to provide to them. If you are right in your minds, in order to buy something so luxurious over 100k, you need to have at least 1million on the side in case something goes wrong. So... things are almost impossible for normal people like us, no matter the education, scholarships, degrees etc we have. :/
