Im learning to be quiet and listen and don't take everything so personally. It's not others it's what I think of myself. Im expect so much of myself I overload and don't complete anything I truly want to do. Then become embarrassed and fail. And it's all in my mindset. Healing is key. Also, it feels good to be heard healthily and understood without judgments. The self-realization of the lies I accepted from my past and carried with me. Unknowingly. Then I put that on to others thinking I can't trust people, but it's my mindset I should have trusted. Because that was trained into me. It's not the new me. I love this content and seeing how it's implemented. Thank you for working with my learning style. Thank you to care enough to help assist me through my blocks. How do I know when I'm making the hot seat timing too long? What does that look like? I would like to see what expression or signals one may give off that will allow me to digress for the next session. Love light and Blessings to everyone!

This exactly what I do with my clients in counseling session but not in my coaching. I am a transformational coach and my clients have radical breakthroughs. I don’t understand how the therapist method is different from coaching if we do the same thing
Great question, Mel! Some techniques will be very similar, but the approach is different. Here are some fundamental differences between coaching and therapy. Therapy usually focuses on the past, healing past pain to create change, and is long-term. Coaching focuses on the future, achieving a specific goal or change the client wants and is short term. Of course, as you say, therapy can be short term and it can focus on the future, the same as coaching can include some therapy techniques. It will solely depend on the therapist/coach who decides what their methodology is and how they want to serve clients. But, in its essence, therapy and coaching have those differences.

Great question! It really depends on what is the outcome / transformation you're offering to clients. Are they connected (mindset and public speaking)? Or do they offer two different results? Based on that, you can decide if they can merge into one niche or two separate ones. There's no specific number of insights or timing to follow, it's more about trusting your intuition and reading your client's body language to get a sense of where they are at, if they're facing some discomfort, or if they've had any aha moments till then. Interesting video, thanks. I have worked in other roles of counselling, coaching of disadvantaged populations, and within adult-education and there is something arrogant and "distant" about these modelled sessions that I do not think is as effective as other methods. But perhaps I just have a personality that conflicts with Rich's approach.
Every coach has their own style and maybe Rich isn't like yours, and that's totally fine! We always encourage coaches to study and learn from different master coaches and methodologies for you to create your own unique style and methodology. Great insight! Thanks for sharing ❤

In my Coaching work that is my challenge! To know that I am the one that is having to come up with what to say. I have only worked for others and have been told "the way of things". Now, I am in the middle of starting a business. I guess I am having a hard time to come up with my own "methodology".

Thank you for sharing. Am aspiring to be a coach, thus watching and learning the videos to gain more knowledge and prepare myself mentally. I enjoyed watching the session and thought some of the issues that the clients/audience were sharing with Rich was really challenging and Rich seems so compose managing them. I am curious how did the conversation progress. I suppose it was edited and I do not have the context, however, I can't help but realised that the 1st lady wasn't really responding to Rich's question initially and there was this moment that she paused and smiled, then suddenly she said that "to be quiet was her challenge and went on to talk about the need for her to keep talking to fill the space...". I am still clueless what really client really need. Appreciate your insights to share more on this. I like the 2nd pillar about uncovering clients' patterns and will be something I definitely need to develop more into my practice.

Not finished watching yet but was simply amazed and impressed at how Rich connect with Greg and the 2nd lady which I didnt get her name. At the same time, I can't help but surprised by how directive Rich is. Is that the usual way he approaches coaching? Being so directive? Or is it because of the time constraints for this "play"?
@@mounyeelim929 Great insight! It could be both, he definitely shows his own coaching style and that's what has worked for him throughout all his years of experience. Do notice he could seem directive at times, but never crossing the line of being disrespectful. What's important about all coaching demonstrations is to take away the key elements you resonate with that you could use, and not follow whatever doesn't fit with your own coaching style ;)

Are this techniques good in addiction counseling sessions
Unfortunately, we don't have firsthand experience to answer this, Rachel, but the principles of coaching apply for any type of coaching (and they can also be shared with counseling). So the techniques could be used as long as they are adjusted as needed to the context and the client. Hope that helps! ❤
The answer is yes because all these techniques are just solution focused brief therapy (de Shazer and Berg) which was primarily studied and validated on an addiction population in the '80s and early '90s.

How is this different from being in a session with a psychologist though?
Great question! Some techniques might look similar, as they can both be customized to what's needed in the session, but the approach is different. A psychologist will tend to focus on healing past pains in a long-term package (this can last years) while a coach focuses on the future and achieving a specific change or goal the client is looking for in a shorter term. What Rich does is he start the coaching session by understanding where the client is coming from and what is the root of their problem to move towards the goal they want. But the session unfolds focusing on action steps, not past healing. We hope this brings some clarity! Thanks for sharing :)
