Thanks! Great tutorial, I see how to change the settings without going back to the menu now. Great starter camera for me as that is what I am going from a camera phone.
Really good timing on the video, it was very helpful. Getting my r100 this winter, excited to start with photography. One small correction, at 14:20 you mention that you can charge the camer via USB-C, sadly you can't, I checked the specs, they cut a couple of weird corners with this camera to keep the price low, the rest of the video is great though.
This was a great video - a great help for a complete photography novice like me. Jared goes step-by-step through all of the camera functions, explains everything in a simple, easy-to-understand manner, even for someone like me who is feeling a little intimidated moving from my cell phone camera to my first DSLR. I now feel more prepared to take photos of my soon-to-arrive first grandchild. Thanks Jared !
I own an R100. Previously I've used and owned a Canon 5D Mark II, Mark III, and T7. I watched this video from start to finish. I feel I have mastered my R100 camera after viewing the entirety of this video.
I just got one of these on a Sam's Club Special with both APS-C kit lenses (18-45 and 55-210), a carrying case, and an SD card. It's a great little mirrorless camera for beginners, travel photography, and for my Western lifestyle shoots. It reminds me of the Rebels, 77D, and 70D I've shot rodeos with in the past, but with the added benefit of the EVF. At its price point, a lack of a touch screen, and a lack of Type C charging isn't a deal breaker, and if you need those features, the similar and slightly better R50, way better R10, and the full frame RP aren't much more expensive. Thanks for the great video user guide, I felt right at home shooting with this.
I just bought one of these. I have an old Canon DSLR so I have about eight really good EF lenses and a mount. I just got the 50 mm RF. I like this camera, and I'm super happy that you showed how to get it to the standard menu. I wasn't really enjoying that weird white screen. My first project will be making a preset black and white with a red filter. I take a lot of pictures in my garden, and it makes the plants look black with a rough ashy surface.
Hashtag I got this far. Tysm you have made learning this camera so much easier. Just got it yesterday for Christmas from my daughter. I'm a lucky mom....
Hey i’m new to the camera industry i’ve used my iphone to the max and just looking to upgrade around christmas I film skit like films on youtube and mini movies would your recommend this?
Thanks so much 🙏 totally getting this based on the fact I'm new to cameras. Just learned about mirrorless cameras. Low budget seems easy to navigate and understand.
This is the most baller camera. Mine is supposed to come monday im hyped asf!!!!!!!! Fro u gotta see my photos when I get it. u always keep it 100. peace brotha
Outstanding tutorial, Thank You! My Dear Dad taught me everything about film SLRs that I know. I've have some beautiful cams from the past. Haha! If you blew a shot, well you just wasted your film!..I've been shooting simple digital for 25 years. Excited about this new R100 where I can take control again. I must have old firmware on it though (v1.0.0). Our menu layouts are different. Cheers!
USB Type-C will not let you charge this camera. As per Canon website it states under the "Interface" descriptor >>> USB Terminal > Equivalent to Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) * Charging and powering the camera via USB are not supported.
Jared, there i something you almost never explain in these types of videos. When you turn on the camera for the very, very first time the menu screen should prompt you to enter a date and time! #igotthisfar #froknowsphoto #seeya
The Viewfinder? If it is, make sure you adjust the diopter slider under the viewfinder to match your vision (watch 16:50). The back screen itself shouldn't be "blurry"
Do not use micro-SD cards that require a plastic adapter to make it fit inside this camera! These devices are highly prone to failure. It will work for a little wile just fine until it fails. The adapters will always fail.
I got this camera as a gift with an RF 50mm f/1.8stm lens. I know nothing about cameras and idk if it's just me but for some reason it feels like it's so zoomed in and idk how to change that. Like I said, I know nothing about camera so Idk if it's the lens or the camera but does anyone know why it is like that and what I can do to change it? I can't turn it to zoom in or out like he did with his lens in the vid
Try hitting the checkerboard button in the top right corner under the magnifying glass. You can always reset the camera in the menu if its a setting you turned on by accident too. Not sure what else it could be unless you just have a “long” lens attached thats meant more for far away photos
Jared you need to consider some guide for Pentax system yesterday I saw Hamilton photo on mercedes f1 team feed where he is holding Pentax I expect that after this Pentax sales will skyrocket from 1 unit a year to 3 xD
CORRECTION: the R100 CANNOT charge via USB-C like I mentioned at 14:23

I'm not a beginner photographer but still enjoy these kinds of videos. Does anyone feel the same?
Is this new set? The set looks perfect in this video.

Bought my first camera yesterday. Thanks for this video Jared!!
Great video! Had no idea how to change the camera settings. You also gave us a plus by showing your presettings. Thank you!
How do you get the lens to retract when you turn the camera off? Mine is stuck sticking out!
You must do it manually. Move the lens past the 18 mark until you reach the white dot.
Would you consider this a good camera for beginner photographers/videographers? Your channel is great. I am a new subscriber. Thanks!
Sir R100 have a silent shutter mode or not plz reply
Very informative and funny. This video made me feel better about not being able to spring for a better quality camera just yet. Subscribed!

Correct, misspoke there by accident. This is the only current EOS "R" camera that doesn't support usb-c charging apparently...

The issue really is with Canon, and they did not do a big promotion about this camera, nor let people know about the camera! That’s the issue!
