Meet "California," one of the 2 songs I wrote while I was held in Jakarta for 100 Days. It's a song about longing for home and the people that come with it, and dealing with the pain I held inside of me during that time.

Kina i have read your story, and it was so sad. I cried afterward. I can't imagine how that must feel. I am Indonesian, i am truly sorry for what happen to you. I do hope you still kindly consider to come again to Indonesia. Perhaps, not Jakarta, but Bali. The most beautiful destination in Indonesia. I am very embarrassed to say this, but Indonesian businessman, like your promoters,were bad people, and somehow, bad people are rapidly show in Indonesia in every thing in Life, not only for music, or concert, or show, but in everything. However, look at the bright side, your talent is undeniable, you still can write this beautiful songs, while you were in pain, and sadness. Please, keep your music on. I love every note you sing. I just read your story, as someone who has also been on the receiving end of horribly unjust legal bureaucracy, I had tears in my eyes. I have also lived through the feelings you described. The huge time periods of intense feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness are unlike anything you can fully describe, it feels the a large inescapable boulder on your very soul. In my experience, I have never been able to fully forget about what happened. I think about it daily, sometimes it's a flicker of emotion or sometimes I find myself pondering over the events of those long, painful months. I wish you and your band a world of love and healing, it is definitely one of the toughest things a person can go through and I hope you are all in the process of healing. Thank you for sharing your story and this song, it will always have a special place in my heart 💛

Dear Kina, I watched your show in Melbourne in 2014 and was one of the first in line for your meet and greet. I still remember the genuine warmth and joy you showed to all who came to your show, and it is still one of my highlights from 2014.
I am so, so sorry for what you went through in Indonesia. The awful limbo you were in while you waited for your case to proceed in Jarkarta, where your hopes were repeatedly dashed, where you felt like you were going insane, and where you had to cancel tours and miss out on family events, is a mental torment that you shouldn't have had to go through. I work in immigration and I see how the heavy burden of uncertain visa statuses can crush an individual's mental wellbeing.
And yet I admire your strength so much - your ability to remain hopeful in the face of hopelessness, your endless gratitude, and your ability to convert pain and suffering into music. That is what I've learned from you in the past, and continue to learn from you now after you've been through such an awful situation - to handle suffering with grace, and to be grateful - always grateful - for everything you have in life.
I know you will always stay strong and beautiful. Sending you all the love and well wishes from Australia.

While I can never say I've ever been held against my will across the planet for months with no end in sight, I can certainly relate with the sense of homesickness. Through your tragedy came a poignant song that fills a space I didn't know existed. Thank you for taking the time to write this song when everything around you was so unsettled.
I love how this song has been born out of a feeling that must have been growing up alongside all the feelings of resentment and bitterness and anger that you must have felt during those 100 days. I can hear such purity of emotion.
What happened was horrible, but I hope you can find a way to let go of the pain soon, and start to look back and see it as a time when you became infinitely stronger and more resilient. Oh God, as an Indonesian I felt really terrible and sorry for all the bad things that happened to you in Jakarta. I don't even know that you guys in there and held for 100 freaking days! I say f##k those amateur promotors that caused you problem in there. It should be their fault that they failed to acquire the working visas but why you're the one that has been sentenced guilty? ah, nevermind. now keep up that positive spirit and enjoy your life. I just hope I can see you guys performing in here again without troubles.

Wow, I am so sorry you and the band had to go through all that Kina. So sad to hear that the promoters failed you guys by not taking responsibility and taking care of all your papers and visas like they were suppose to. However, I'm glad to hear you had such a strong network of friends and family (your husband and band members, etc) to support one another during the times and trial and weakness there.
