- This video shows how to properly use electric toothbrushes to effectively and thoroughly clean teeth without damaging gums.
Knowing how to use an electric toothbrush is one of the biggest factors in making sure your teeth and gums are benefitting from the investment. If you understand how to use an electric toothbrush properly, you’ll usually see a drop in plaque buildup and bleeding gums. They just make your teeth cleaner. Handle them gently, allowing the bristles to do all the work for you. Don’t push or press, because it will do more harm than good. Yes, electric brushes are a financial investment, but if you can get past the vibrating sensations, they’ll be one of the best things you ever did for your smile! I brush my teeth for 6 min 😅 just want to make sure it's properly clean.
I’m 67 and just got my first electric toothbrush! …. Can’t wait to try it .. it’s charging right now. When you get older you appreciate every little thing .. or at least you should by then if you’ve learned anything about life.
I hope you enjoy it Sir 😄
:)
We should appreciate every little thing at any age.
Hope you doing good sir
Yea

i feel so dumb even searching for this video lol. i recently got really into my oral hygiene.
never dumbbbb! you are SMART for wanting to make sure you're doing everything right :) makes me so happy!!! wishing you continued dental care!
Me too!!
You’re not alone. I neglected cleanings for 10 years and after that deep cleaning bill came in lol it was time to build my knowledge
About 80% of all people use 50% of anything, wrong.
or not idealy at least.
Notice that half a million people also wondered about it. So, you’re in good company.
As someone who hasn’t always looked after their teeth especially as a child I just want to say thank you for this. After using a manual toothbrush for years I’ve taken the leap and purchased my first electric toothbrush in the hopes I will clean my teeth better with a lot less pressure than I feel I need to use with my manual toothbrush.
I only just got an electric toothbrush today and I came just to see how I am supposed to use it lol. I have dyspraxia so with a manual toothbrush I keep missing a lot of spots and it's so awkward for me to brush
Same just bought it yesterday !@@TprogamerRUclipsTerraria
I recently became super into my oral hygiene, a little late in early thirties. I LOVE THIS CHANNEL.
yay! so happy to hear that and thankful you're here!!!
better late than never
I am now getting really into my oral hygiene and in my late twenties. Better late than never! 😊
Same :). I wish I started caring more in my younger days x
Wish i also started earlier too.I have to do a root canal because my younger self didn’t want to go to the dentist. Now im super careful of my cleaning routine. This channel helped a ton!!
I really thought my dentist was just trying to make a sale by encouraging me to buy the electric brush they sell in their office, but man, I actually came to love it. The built-in timer is awesome, but also, it actually monitors your pressure. If you start brushing too hard, it makes a noise and lights up with a red ring to warn you. If you keep going for more than a few seconds, it automatically shuts off to keep you from doing any damage. How cool is that?
this was really cool for me too I think for a while I've always applied too much pressure and this will help me a lot
What model you use?
I brush my teeth with violence and aggression. My wife says I look angry.
😭
Try to be gentle because your gums will recede with aggressive brushing.
Yep don’t be aggressive cuz you’ll get recessive gums and that’s where food gets stuck between that space between teeth and gums!
😂😂😂😂
Me
I love my electric toothbrush! The biggest thing for me was letting go of feeling like I was “cheating.” I felt like it couldn’t be that easy where I only had to guide the brush- but now it’s so fun and simple to brush! The real clean you get from it is addicting. I could not go back. (Also floss and use a water pick in addition to my electric toothbrush) ❤️🙌🏻
yay! love hearing about your awesome home care efforts! keep up the great work!!!
I am starting to use the electric toothbrush and after few days I saw that It is really better to use electric toothbrush then the manual toothbrush
I just got an electric toothbrush and it felt odd not brushing back and fourth. It's definitely something to get used to.
@@brijeshmehta7036same electric toothbrush is life changing
Your videos have given me hope. I've been doing a really good job brushing, flossing, water picking, tongue scraping, and mouth wash swishing 2x/day. I still have a lot of damage and will most likely need some implants, crowns, and root canals but it's better late than never and now I'm being an example for my children and making sure they are taking good care of their teeth.
I really appreciate your honesty and your willingness to admit that. Better late than never for me as well. Happy gentle brushing and enjoy all the little bits that our flossing brings out. Do you remember that commercial? Wow I could have had a V8!!
This is one of those moments where I randomly think about a mundane task and think “what if I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life?”
Hi. I'm a 54 year old codger who never eva wanted to use an electric toothbrush, but my dentist says I need to. Thank you so very much for giving me the tips and know what to do to use my ETB correctly. I can see (having used it for the very first time) how more effective an ETB is, but gosh its gonna take time for me given ýou cant teach an old dog new tricks'. going to watch ur video a few more times to make sure I'm brushing correctly. :)
I use an Oral-B toothbrush for my teeth cleaning routine. And I swear. The clean feeling it gives you after you are done is really nice. That is my brand of choice.
Wow I’ve been brushing my teeth wrong this whole time. No wonder my dentist thinks I don’t brush my teeth that often😭
no worries! I didn't do it right until dental hygiene school either!
Meee toooooo
Same. I've been scrub brushing my entire life
ha ha me to.
It's crazy how schools don't teach us the important small stuff that will go a long way to protect your gums.
But thank God I know that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell 👍🏽 never had to use this is in a productive way in the real world. THANKS SCHOOL :)
LOL this made me giggle. so true. will always remember the MIGHTY MITOCHONDRIA!
Dentist should make visit to a school to teach Pre-k or K students how to brush their teeth.
That's because school isn't a replacement for parenting... People out there thinking the school should teach them everything they need to know in life. That is simply not realistic and there isn't enough time either.
OMG Whitney I’m totally doing it wrong!! Recently got an Oral B Electric toothbrush kit from my dentist and I love it! 🦷 Love your videos
thank you whitney!! because of you i made the change from my manual toothbrush to a sonicare (pink ofc), and i love it so much!
Thank you for the video! I recently switched to electric after years of almost brushing my gums away manually! Brushing damage is real!
Holy crap! Wonderful information. I love your channel! I go in for my first dental cleaning tomorrow morning!! Yay!
Thankyou for explaining, I just bought my first electric tooth brush for the very first ti.e yesterday, n I needed to learn how to properly brush my teeth with it, you explained it well. Thank you so much . 😃 😊 😁
Ive been binge watching your videos and you have some great content! I aspire to be a dental hygienist someday and your channel motivates me to continue to pursue that goal! 😁
SO happy to hear that! thank you so much for watching and commenting kind!
I admire your dream of becoming a dental hygienist and I hope that you are making progress with your life goal. My sister is a dental hygienist and she is getting ready to retire at 60. Your job will be a very important one and will make a huge difference in people's lives. Blessings from Oklahoma 💞🙏🤓
Can u do a video on why some of us get heavier buildup on our teeth no matter how much we try to practice good dental hygiene? My sister hardly ever flosses but yet almost never gets cavities and has not had to have much dental work done. I on the other hand will get cavities if I don't floss and do all the steps of good dental hygiene
I get what you are saying. Me.. lot's and lots of cavities, extractions, root canals and crowns, my brother is a so so brusher and no flosser that I've seen and yet not even a filling. Genetics and maybe more of a sugar eater is why for me. Brush 2x 2 minutes floss 2x and flourish mouthwash.
Thank you for this! I just bought an electric toothbrush for the first time today and I read through the entire user manual and was still like, "OK but how do I actually USE this thing?" This video really helped!
yay! thank you so much for watching and communing kind!!!
I’ve been brushing my teeth for 5 mins since forever 😬 And I could brush more gently but so far no problems. I’ll try to change that lol! I love your channel btw!
thank you so much for this! i’ve been using a manual toothbrush daily (after each meal/snack) since 2018 (i’m autistic and always had a lot of trouble with brushing teeth)
i’ve been going through toothbrushes quickly lately, and they all look like i chewed them (i didn’t, but i think i’m just brushing harder and harder over time) so i thought i’d get an electric one…. and then when trying it for the first time, i realized i had NO IDEA how to use one!
so this was really helpful!
Thank you for the instructions. Never too old to learn.
thank you! i'll be binge watching your videos and not only to see what else i can start correcting 😅 love when the algorithms hit!
I love your voice, could listen to you talk all day
Thank you! Just got one, can't wait to use it for the first time tomorrow ❤
I just received an electric toothbrush from a colleague as a christmas present!! I was so excited seeing it as if a child got her long-awaited toy. 🤣 I saw your videos and other ppl's comments that electric toothbrush is as good as a manual brush and i was tempted to get one. However it was expensive and I wasn't sure if it was going to work for me. Im glad to receive an electric toothbrush as a xmas present hahah😊 thanks to teeth talk girl, I learnt how to keep my teeth and gum healthy.
FINALLY I have been waiting for this video!! I’m a fool using my electric toothbrush!!
😂😭😭
not a fool! you are a pro now!
It's u again! 😬
I just got my first BURST brush and I LOVE IT! I have so many electric toothbrushes but BURST is by far my favorite!
yay! so happy you found one you love!!! thank you for watching :)
Just got my second cavity scare. I thought I knew how to brush, but seeing this video wow I can’t believe I’ve been doing it wrong. Just recently had 8 cavities and now I have ANOTHER. Super embarrassing that I have to look up a video on how to brush but at this point, for the sake of my dental health I really need to build my knowledge on this. Thank you for this video!!!
Very helpful, thank you for your clear instructions
hope it helps!!! thank you for watching and commenting kind!
Thank you! I'm using my first electronic toothbrush for the first time, so the video was very straightforward and helpful. :) Any thoughts on electronic toothbrushes that use infrared LED technology?
You should make one demonstrating an Oral-B brush since they really are different and I find people have a greater learning curve with their style.
yesss! great video idea! because really going one tooth at a time helps with that one! thank you!
I seriously needed this. Thank you Whitney! :)
yay! you're so welcome! thank you for watching :)
My local pharmacy has 50% off oral B electric toothbrush deal so I grabbed one today, can’t wait to try it out tonight
hello, I'm a Dentist from Venezuela and currently working as a Dental hygienist in the USA, I have been trying with my patients this next technique, with both, regular and electric toothbrushes.
Never horizontal movements, at the front, up, and down touching the gums softly.
back, up and down with light circular motions.
and at the lingual areas upper and lower, positioning the brush completely vertical and do up and down softly tooth by tooth.
I noticed a huge change in their oral hygiene plus less aggression to the gums and less gum recession.
I noticed using an electric brush just leaving the brush on top of the tooth, is too aggressive and produces more recession.
I wanted to share this and recommend to all of you to try and then if you want to let me know how this works for you I will really appreciate it. thank you!!
nice video!!
OMG I've been brushing wrong with my electric toothbrush which I've had for over 4 years now. I just tried the method you showed in the video and my teeth have never felt so clean. I feel so dumb 🤣but grateful for the video. TY teethtalkgirl you're awesome!
not at all dumb!!!! I didn't floss correctly until dental hygiene school! no worries it's never too late :) thank you for commenting kind!!!
Excellent video. Reinforces and explains all the good things I’ve heard about. I shared this with my nephew.
thank you! and thank you for sharing!
@@TeethTalk what brush do you use and what setting do you use if it has multiple? I used the oral b pro 1000 and I didn’t know if the one set speed was too rough for the teeth.
Will you make a video about the research around sparkling water and its effects on teeth!
Thank you for the wonderful video :)
is there such thing as “brushing your teeth too long” (as in… doing 8 min instead of 2 min) ?
Thank you! Trying out a new one for me, the Spin brush, and this was really helpful!
Thanks doctor for your suggestions, I just bought mine and I love it, thank you.
Just got my first electric brush and it’s a game changer!
This method is better than the method I was using to brush, thanks for sharing.
This video remains beautiful and educational even 3 years since last time viewed.
Like manual brushes, should one angle the electric tooth brush at 45 degree angle at the gum line or just straight? Also, what about brushing above the gumline as well?
For those not comfortable with charcoal electric toothbrush bristles, ProSys offers different brush heads compatible with the BURST toothbrush.
Got it! Thank you for the answer.
This was incredibly helpful!!
Loved this tutorial. I'm buying my first electric toothbrush tomorrow
I accidentally left my manual toothbrush at my parents' house and decided it was the right time to use an electric for the first time ever. The first time I used it, I brushed like I always had and it didn't feel great. Now I know!
I never realized how aggressive I was with the scrubbing until I saw this video!
yessss! same! it was years before I realized I was doing it wrong!
@@TeethTalk looks like ive been brushing my teeth for too long. thanks for this vid, i would have ended up wearing my teeth out even on the soft setting i chose.
Excellent channel. Even though I hope I don't need to watch your videos often, I subscribed and am going to check from time to time!
thank you for being here :) !
This is very helpful!
Omg your teeth are incredible 😍😍😍

Very helpful info. thank you.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.
Nice presentation! I have a sonicare electric tooth brush as well. Those pearly whites are vibrant….
😂😂😂yeah my wife recently bought me a battery tooth brush. She was saying I should look up a video how to use it. She was right. I wasn't letting the tooth brush do the work for me. Thank you for the video. God bless
Thank you your video lots of help me to know about lots of things related about teeth and get to recover and super clean
I thought my fiance was lying. Lol oh man, new comer, and love your videos, very informative for someone who hates going to the dentist based on past experiences but trying to get better with dental care. Also, your teeth are just amazing.
Thanks for the tip!❤
I just came across your page! I just purchased my BURST brush!!
yay! I hope you love it!!! thank your for being here :)
Hi,
Any recommendations for the best toothpaste? Is the charcoal toothpaste to abrasive?
THANKS SO MUCH FOR TEACHING ME how to use it at first I did not know and if I did not see ur video I would have never learnt thx so much
thanks TTG! I'm looking for best practices
Finally I've been wanting this for a long time
yay! thank you so much for watching!!!
Very good video. Nice tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
thank you for watching!!!
Great video, thank you.
Your teeth are beautiful! No fillings! (or composite ones).
Thanks for the refresher.
I was wondering. With all these different types of brush heads, are the "specific" functioned heads (3d white, dual heads etc) really useful? Are just marketing scheme?
Thank you 🙏 I noticed you’re using one that is a traditional head shape, but mine is circular. Is there pros/cons for either? Thank you 😊
I regret not buying an eletric toothbrush earlier. The result is so good that even the dental floss is clean after using it.
Your smile is incredibly gorgeus.
Just got one and it’s an absolute game changer. And agree with you, she’s beautiful!
Thank you for all the tips 😀 🇬🇧
Amazing video as always!
Question: Hey but aren’t you also suppose to go in circular motions with electric toothbrushes that aren’t oral b?
nope - not for electric - you're supposed to let it do the work for you! hope his helps!
Great demonstration although I wished you had shown more and emphasized how to brush the front bottom particularly, because the front is where I've experienced bad recession and will be having to see a periodontist and I'm sure I am going to need gum graphing for my front tops and bottoms. Those front bottoms I'm really not able to figure out what direction to be placing my electric brush in and the dentist they never seem to help or show me!!! In fact he handed me a manual after I invested in this Philips and actually feel is doing a less evasive job than I and therefore less of a arduous & extensive excursion! I am an over-brusher and tend to be have been too "thorough" and took my academic stress out on my brushing. Lupus and braces added to this factor and sadly my front guns have disappeared and drawn away. The front bottom teeth is where I can't figure out how to angle, is it 45 degree angle downward or upward? I've just been focused on doing the best job I can while being gentle, avoiding the gum because I have little left and if I brush too close I end up very sore. The dentist said I am supposed to be brushing somewhat at the gum line, which I understand due to bacteria, but because of the recession this has caused severe pain and fear I will have nothing left. It's a bad situation as I intend to seek gum graphing, as a last resort to help give my teeth an extra hug & protection, but if I can't master brushing properly, this will be a catastrophic outcome. It is crucial I learn as correctly as possible how I'm supposed to brush. I am aware and don't scrub but just hold and allow it it's job and try to remind myself to be gentle as possible. I think the reason this gum deterioration is happening so rapidly to many people is honestly due to when we try to get help from the professionals they aren't helping or answering nor showing us!!! Handing me a manual is not helping and only confusing me as the manual route is what caused this nightmare for me in the first place. Why couldn't he simply answer my questions and show me, I brought my electric in it's case to get this vital help at the appt and he did not help! Then he wrote down a couple periodontist's after I inquired. So is this one big scam?!? My neighbor who was a dental tech in Boston in the 70's-80's, told me she used to give brushing classes to people and this was something dentists did. I really do believe they didn't want people doing things right because there is a lot of money to be had from the errors of our ways and not knowing any better. Keep people ignorant and they will need make a killing and to hell with those who wear their guns away and can't afford any help or options, what do they care!?! My neighbor finally offered to show me how after I complained about this latest dentist and that it seems the industry purposely put an end to people becoming too advanced at preventing such lucrative opportunities for themselves.
I randomly found you and am very appreciative of your videos!
I recently got my 1st electric toothbrush. I got the Oral-B iO 5 (there was a crazy good sale on Amazon!).
I am trying to learn to use an electric brush but am struggling a little.
I always end up with spit and toothpaste dripping out of my mouth, making a mess... no matter what I do!
Do you have any advice for brushing with an electric toothbrush and NOT making a huge mess?
I have learned to use only a teeny tiny amount of water to moisten (not wet) the brush and a small amount of toothpaste (the manual says a "pea" size but even that seems like a lot sometimes tbh).
Another hygienist on YT recommended brushing the toothpaste over each section of molars before starting, so that there will always be some toothpaste in each quadrant. Do you think that helps?
And it was VERY hard not to BRUSH my teeth with the electric toothbrush at 1st! Lol but I've since learned to glide it along... and my toothbrush has a green light when the pressure is right, white if it's too light and a red light if it's too hard, at the base of the brush attachment, so you can always see it. I find it super helpful!
It turns out that I was definitely someone who brushed too hard before I switched to this toothbrush!
I also love the app that comes with it - it shows any areas you miss, guides you to brush your tongue, floss and use mouthwash in addition to brushing at least twice a day - and the streak function helps me make sure I brush twice EVERY DAY bc I don't want to ruin my streak and has rewards/medals for things and milestones, etc - both the streak and the medals work well at (further) incenticizing me to have better oral health (biologically I am an adult, but apparently my brain is that of a child's lol 😅).
Thanks again for this video - I learned a lot!
Very informative video's..thanks Whitney. They always told me with electric brushing to stay at least for 8 seconds on 1 tooth, before going to the next one. but 2 minutes in total sounds a lot better..hahaha.
I don’t know why I love the sound of that Burst toothbrush
how long do you think i should do for front backs and tops for brushing my teeth?
Does bone loss cause teeth to shift/get twisted as well?
best yt for dental...stuff👍🏽good vid
thank you so much for watching!!!
Thanks for another great vid! Could you possibly do a vid using an electric toothbrush with a round head? Can you please include placement of the head on the front teeth. I have so much trouble with the 45° angle when it comes to the front teeth and find that the smaller sensitive head doesn't even cover the entire surface area, including the gum line. Maybe I should just switch to the toothbrush you are using. I wish you were my dental hygienist! I see mine every 3mo for tartar removal and am still having issues with gingivitis despite doing everything I can :'(
Yeah me too. Use Equate brand and it's very good. My dentist and hygienist say my gums and teeth are looking great.
@Teeth Talk Girl, I'm hesitant about using the electric Burst toothbrush because of the charcoal in the bristles. Are there any brushes with similar feathery bristles without the charcoal?
I've been using an electric toothbrush and I think it's really better than the manual ones. In fact, the Oclean Flow that I use is really effective in cleaning my teeth. And it's light weight so I bring it with me when I travel.
Thank you I just purchased a Bruush toothbrush and felt clueless lol!!
Yeah made the switch to electric toothbrush a couple of years ago because my hygienist recommended it. Use small head type Equate brand. Hygienist said place toothbrush between gum and teeth making sure I get both and should be about three seconds on each tooth. I'm also pretty late in my fifties taking care of oral health now very proactive. Yes brush / floss before breakfast and sometimes afterwards but not always . At least I water rinse after. But if I do brush and floss in between meals as much as I can. Also make it a point to do so before going to bed. Always use flouride rinse when I do. Every single time I brush and floss.
Been really get into oral hygiene the past few months, hopefully someone will comment under this in the near future and I'll be able to provide positive results 🙏
I've been doing some Burst ad animations and I noticed the cammo brush and immediately recognized the brand, haha
Hi Whitney, I’m a dental hygienist from Hungary (Europe). Where can I buy these BURST products from, can u suggest a webstore? I tried on their site but I’ve seen they don’t deliver outside of the US. Thanks. Kinga
This is my first time using a electrical toothbrush and I have the burst toothbrush just like you have in the video
Wow, i hsd an eldtic toothbrush on my dresser judt sitting thete. .After watching your video, i us it tonite, thanks Teeth Talk Girl!!!!!
Thanks for this awesome video!! Your channel is amazing 😍
I was wondering what electric toothbrush and also which toothbrush head are you using (in terms of softness and name)? It looks so gentle and comfortable on your teeth. l use the softest brush head for sonicare with the $40 tooth brush handle, try to be gentle but it still feels hard in my mouth and bounces off my teeth and unless i use sensitivity toothpaste, i have pain in my mouth the next day.
I wish I could use a manual toothbrush but my teeth just don't get as clean no matter what technique I use and I cannot brush too hard due to sensitivity and gum recession.
thank you so much for watching! and for your kind comment! all the info for this toothbrush is in the bottom bar of the video :) hope this helps! and I usually do tell my patients about this one being one of the most soft bristled electric toothbrushes I know of as of now. hope this helps :)
Just with one squeeze of toothpaste is enough for the whole 4 quarters?
Super helpful
Good info, is it the same with an oral b? I tend to do one tooth at a time since it has the spinny head
yes!!! so good! one tooth at a time is perfect! :)
I knew it! I am a new Electric toothbrush user. I thought gentle force was not the right way but turns out it is
