I have battled for roughly 6 years to understand revelation. Thats how long ive been a Christian. I am currently an convinced Amillenial partial preterist ( for last couple of years) and once i found out that you were teaching this on here, sir, i was, and am, so grateful. I just graduated Bible college and plan to devour this series. Thankyou so much. Praise Christ.
@@GoreBruce This is how I understand the word "soon" or "near" in certain verses from Revelation 1 such as in verses 1 to 3: "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near." ( REVISED STANDARD VERSION ) I understand that the message was delivered to the very original recipients of the book which were the first-century christians. And that it is unlikely that they were told something like "the message will be more relevant for the last generation of Christians before Christ's second coming. We're not the last generation yet". It is likely they didn't imagine nor expect it that there would be so many generations after them. Of course the time wasn't near for them because nearly 2000 years went by but the end of the world hasn't come till this day. That means the only way that word "soon" or "near" should be understood is from God's perspective. That based on a verse from 2 Peter 3 which says one day for Him is like one thousand years to us.
This is like a breath of fresh air. Finally, Revelation makes sense. Thank you, Bruce, I wish I had discovered preterism 40 years ago, my life would have been far simpler.
This believer is absolutely loving these videos. Thank you for posting them online as I don't have the money to attend bible college. May the Lord bless you abundantly, may His face shine upon you.
If you watch through his videos.. odds are a Bible college will teach you from the Scofield Reference Bible. Or at least hold to his teachings in the footnotes. Beautifully done Bruce. You have such a loving cander, but I bet it still creates lashing out at you. His word's sharper than any sword, the truth will stand up to any attack.

I have believed early Revelation for a long time--never understood it as presented so clearly here-- God Bless you Bruce-- I may be late to the party but I can still have some cake!
You can enjoy his inferior cakes cooked with the dung that cometh out of Bruce; Ezek. 4:12. Rev. 12:1 fulfilled on September 23rd 2017. Rev. 2:4 was the Holocaust with 1\3rd of the Jews cast to the earth (Gen. 22:17). The constellation dragon in Rev. 12:3 has Ursa Minor in its tail where the swastika symbol originated. The ALS Muslim dragon with seven heads tried and failed to devour the woman aka Israel's newborn nation the day it was born.
Revelations is starting to make sense. It was always gibberish to me ... now with a context to frame it in, it is coming together into something that is coherent and sensible.

@@joshportie There is no way that a contemporary who reads John's Revelation for the first time would understand the symbolism. The first century believers in Asia Minor, to whom it was written (it wasn't written to us), would have understood it because they understood their times. Furthermore they understood apocalyptic language as directly calling them back to OT texts.
Thank you so much Bruce wow I can't imagine the time you put into this I was so so confused about Revelation I had just ignored it but I am going through everyone of your lessons God bless
I learned from Robert Godfrey's Church History series that Jewish people made up around 20% of the empire. That's a huge number, and helps me understand why Jerusalem was so wealthy and important. It also explains why its destruction was so cataclysmic. Though I'm not post-mil, I'm learning a lot, and I can say that I'm not at all opposed to it's position. Thank you for all the vids you have posted here, they are an invaluable resource.
Dude. Thank you for this! Long story short, I LOVE history. I was the student who came early to history class and just read his history book before class started because I was always captivated by the past. The past month as I got into revelation, I immediately got a familiar feeling of past events that have happened already in that time. So I’m taking a more historical approach to it. Thank you for this!!!

I’m living (more like being stuck) in HK currently. Great to see the city’s name being mentioned. God Bless you Bruce for your gift in teaching. Love every single lesson you give.
@A Baker the city is following China’s zero covid tolerance policy… this makes traveling very difficult because I will go insane in a room by myself for 7 days! (It used to be 21 days…😓).
Bruce You spoke of the harlot city and I was hopeful. You spoke of Hal being wrong and my hope doubled but then you went to Rome and while the history lesson was interesting the narrative reminded me again of Lindsey. You said Revelation left you bewildered and I share that experience with you even at the same time in history we are brothers in time…I was baffled by Revelation and as so many fascinated. I wanted, needed to understand this strange book; and then there was The Late Grate Planet Earth. Countdown to Armageddon, and a third book I can’t remember the title of off hand, I could look it up but it’s not that important. Reading them I finally had clarity… then better equipped I went back to scripture and all that I thought I understood vanished like a morning mist in the sun. I could hold onto understanding as long as I held to the books authored by Hal Lindsey, but what I wanted was clarity of scripture. Stepping from his book back into His book I was just as lost as I had been before. I think you will agree that the point of teaching is to open the mind of the student? To help them think rather than to simply dump dialog on them? If Hal was teaching me then why was I still so mystified with this book? It took many years but I have come to be at peace with Revelation and I want to share this with you. I want to do that because I do see you as a brother. Daniel is not the first prophet to speak on end times but he is one that cannot be ignored. He provides some of the largest sections of the puzzle. When I build a puzzle I start with the edge, and Daniel gives us those pieces to this puzzle. Seventy weeks are appointed unto your people and your holy city ….. There it is the stage has been set. I enjoy the theatre. I have seen some opera, a bit of ballet, stage plays, and I bring this up because while they share similarities, I don’t expect Shakespeare during a performance of the nutcracker. The stage like a puzzle has a defined limit and what is outside is not part. The players depend on the drama or vice versa and Daniel is told and shares the fact that this drama is unfolding in Jerusalem and the story is about his people and that city. Now it is true that Rome played a certain historical part in Jerusalem’s past; it’s like picking up a puzzle peace, looking around to see if it fits, and so does it, if so where? The drama begins with the going forth of the order to rebuild the city. If it was a play and I have been to the passion play in Drumheller Alberta there would be a set. It would be that city at the time of Yeshua’s first coming, and everything would lead up to the climax of the first act. If you were looking at Daniels script what would you say is the climax that takes place on that first set? I would say it must be the entering of the King; and the subsequent crucifixion. Then there would be a scene change. Curtain comes down…intermission. A lot of people don’t read the programs and so they get lost when it comes to opera in particular. If it’s a prophecy of seventy weeks and sixty nine until Messiah comes….what happens to the last week? The curtain is down and they change the set but what is going on while that happens. People go to the bathroom they get a drink have a conversation stretch some smoke….no one thinks that’s part of the play. It is part of the evening of the experience but not the show. What happens in our play called Revelation after the curtain comes down on the first act? The city is sacked raised to the ground, scene change, but it is not part of the play. In the Olivet discourse there are two questions asked and answered. One is concerning end of days and the other of the city and its end. Yeshua answered both but one is Shakespeare and the other the Nutcracker. Understanding the players, the motivations, the setting is key to any drama. Mystery Babylon as an example if seen as Rome changes everything if the alternative is Jerusalem…. I would contended based on the program given it must be Jerusalem and if it is Rome as so many insist then what do you do with the description later that said; in her was found the blood of prophets? 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. You pointed out that Yeshua said Jerusalem kills the prophets and He adds it is not possible that one could be killed outside of that city…. I say Bruce the first act took place in that city and so too will the second act. The ten kings I find interesting because while everybody agrees that the beast we are seeing has ten horns they ignore how we got there…. There were these kings call them the ignored kings/horns and three of them are ripped up by the root? What why? When? Where? No one seems to care they are the ignored kings. Then one rises to power it was this rise that caused three to fall, and then there were ten….. I am guessing you’re a history teacher? We are entering into the realm of maths but they are simple maths if you add one and that equals ten what did you start with (9) If you subtract three and that equals nine what do you start with (12) if the play and players are centered on Israel is 12 a significant number? And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sits. What are we looking at here? The woman is Jerusalem what is this sitting? I see her as raised up, resting on depending on. Further these kings are not only raising her up there is a definite sense that they are in a line of succession… , even he is the eighth, and is of the seven. Did the Caesars of Rome raise up Jerusalem? Incidentally there were already seven and they are currently all dead. When we consider Revelation we should begin by identifying each player, and we should do that, I’m sure you will agree through scripture, not conjecture, not traditions, not by current events. Had the church fathers done so in the beginning and recognized that without a stage you can’t have a play they might have said we don’t know when the end will come but we are sure we need a city of Jerusalem and a temple in that city before it can come. We need a man to take the place of Messiah that is the one we as a nation have been waiting for to be king….to give us the worldly things we want. To enter that temple, Gods house, and lay claim to it along with His city and people. We don’t know when that will happen but the program says this is what the play is about so we do know it is what will happen…..That these same people, Gods people of whom He says I am a Husband, will commit fornication. They will as Yeshua said when one comes in his own name accept him as their king their anointed of God. They will glorify him to the whole world and the world will become drunk on the wine of her fornication…. The play has already been written. The second act is about to begin. Raise curtain what will the set look like? Daniel seven gives us a look at the second act….but this is getting long.
Patrick Edgington Very well said Patrick. These type of messages can seem very convincing when you first hear them. Just some digging into the Word of God, exposes many flaws in their theories.

Because the fulfillment of prophecy was a long way off. Which is why Revelation 22:10 is in contrast to it because the fulfillment of prophecy was a close.
I think Daniel is clear that the culmination of the Messiah coming. That prophecy and vision would end and that a NEW holy place would be ordained, which is Christ. The Temple of his body. The old system would stop forever and be replaced. As a kid I was always taught that the apostolic miracles ended under Nero. Pretty sure that’s settled church dogma for millennia. If that’s the case, then John must write the book before the prophecy and visions ended or Daniel 9:24 becomes a stumbling block.

@@DonCornelius366 Bruce Gore is a Professor of religion at Whitworth University where he has been teaching for over 30 years. This is a taped lecture. You watched the video, yes?
I would like to point out one little piece of historical data which will support your argument for an early date of the book of Revelation, and it has to do with Domitian. Everyone quotes Ireneaus and gives the book a 90’s date, because obviously that is when Domitian reigned. However (and this is a BIG however), watch this: Domitian’s father was Vespasian. Vespasian is the one who originally laid siege to Jerusalem as general under Nero in A.D. 66. In December of 69 Vespasian was elected Emperor. His eldest son Titus took charge of the Jerusalem seige, while his younger son Domitian resided in Rome. But here is the important point: it took him nearly six months to make his way from Jerusalem and Egypt (where he was securing foodstuff for his soldiers) to Rome. During this half year space, Domitian ruled in the stead of his father! During this six months, Domitian was brutal, exiling many people, establishing harsh persecutions, and generally causing chaos. When his father arrived, he reversed many of Domitian’s orders and restored many exiles to freedom. AND SO - Iranaeus tells us John wrote during the reign of Domitian…and he is correct - during the short 6 months reign of Domitian in A.D. 69/70. After Vespasian’s death, his eldest son Titus ruled, and after his death Domitian came to the throne in his own full right - in 96. But he was there, representing his father - in 69! This changes everything, yes? Details can be found in the Annals of Tacitus. A less trustworthy verification can be found in the wikipedia articles on Vespasian and Domitian.
I don't know if this has been asked but @ 17:21 Dr Gore says Jesus was born in 4 B.C. - there must be some explanation of how this is possible because @ 1 AD Jesus would be 5 yrs old.
The original calendar was worked out by a 2nd century astronomer named Ptolemy. He appears to have miscalculated the year of Jesus' birth by 2 to 4 years or so, so it is commonly accepted that Jesus was born just a few years before the year zero.
King Herod died 4 BC, so Christ had to be born by at least that year, so 4 BC is what I accept. So if he was born 4 Bc in 27 Ad he was 30 which luke says in 3. 23 at his baptism, died 31 , so 70 weeks of Daniel 9 end in 34 AD
Bruce, I am one of those who believe Revelation was written before 70 AD, but the best evidence for those who believe it was written after 70 AD is found in Revelation 2:13. It speaks of a person named Antipas who history says was martyred after 70 AD. Bruce do you, or does anyone reading this have information that counters that? Thanks
JD Williams...I was always under the impression that John wrote Revelation (or died, cant remember) in 95AD. For more info, see Bruce Gore's reply to 'Really Fun' above.
I am trying to learn more about history in its relation to the Bible and Christianity. So my question is : If Antipas was martyred in Pergamum in 92, how can the book of Revelation be written in 65? (Rev 2:13) I am flustered, can you please help me reconcile my thoughts. Update: not sure if my response was seen. Where can Ii look to get find the correct information about Antipas?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antipas_of_Pergamum, www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2010/04/saint-antipas-martyr-of-apocalypse.html Wikipedia is were lots of info (be it right or wrong) is usually the first site to check. I looked around a lot, saw a few more sites in searching for the answer and didn't see many with a date, none really say an earlier one. I just started (less then week in) looking into the history of the Bible. So I seek out the wisdom of one dedicated to the topic. (meaning you:) My question was only for discerning the truth. Currently, I am of the belief Revalation is part history's past but partly the future, so until further study I am open to keeping an open mind.
As far as I can determine there is no documented record of a death of a Martyr in Pergamum in 95. This is simply an assumption made by those who understand Irenaeus to teach that Revelation was written in the late first century, a theory that has been challenged by a number of competent scholars.
I have many I would recommend, but if you are looking for a good general introduction, I highly encourage you to take a look at Chilton's Paradise Restored: www.amazon.com/Paradise-Restored-Biblical-Theology-Dominion/dp/0930462521/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1535639785&sr=8-1&keywords=paradise+restored+david+chilton Thanks!
About 16:30 or so Mr. Gore explains that the seven heads represent the Herods. (The video kind of jumps here like part of it skipped.) It seems as if He is saying that it was Herod the Great PLUS the six Herods that came after him. However, there were only six Herods in total. How can six represent seven?
Well, I'm just noting the interesting and possibly significant correlation of the number and color. As to the number of Herods, you are probably not noticing that there are two 'Herod Philip' characters. One was a tetrarch. The other lived in Rome. It was the Roman Philip who lost his wife to Herod Antipas.
Really appreciate your teaching. I’ve been frustrated with learning and understanding scripture (Revelation is hard) but so much seems like we are the problem. I’ve been learning more about Christianity at the time of our founding. The 1700’s seem so positive but the 1800’s appear so corrupt. (I saw a vid by you last night when I couldn’t sleep but it was on the 1800’s so didn’t help!) I’ll have to see if you have made your presentation available so I can do a better job of capturing you teaching.
I find where Nero was sentenced to death but they say he committed self inflicted death can you please provide the link or the source you are using. Thank you so much
Nero committed suicide, but he was forced to do so by Roman executioners, who would have taken his life if he refused. Seutonius gives us that information in his Twelve Caesars, and any standard history of the first century Roman empire would mention it.
@GoreBruce oh ok!!! Thank you so very very much I am just really learning this and finally after 2 years embracing it as the truth, I'm a slow learner lol

Awesome teaching, but I think I disagree with the final implication of Jesus being violent/wrathful in the traditional sense. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and keep listening, but I think that John intentionally used very violent imagery against the almost comedic backdrop of a gentle lamb to put to shame the violence that is typical of human empire. To steal from Daniel, the other nations of history instigated beastlike terror with the use of violence and oppression. The just, humane Son of Man ("human being," in contrast to the beasts) ushers in a just and worshiping society based on the sword of TRUTH (which divides soul from spirit, according to Hebrews and Luke). He conquers nations without the use of violence. The "lion" of Judah who is worthy to open the scroll of Life is, in fact, the lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world. I think what John is doing in Revelation 19 - in his description of the conquering king - is offering a satirical image of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a baby colt/donkey. Whereas the world's rulers subdue their enemies by riding into their lands upon grand stallions, brandishing swords and accompanied by armies, Jesus rode into the land of His "enemies" - the harlot city, on a donkey, with the sword of His mouth - God's truth. Because He has not resorted to the world's "way," He has indeed conquered the nations, and continues to exert authority over the world.
This was a very good observation, well thought out. However, the seven woes oracles in Mt. 23. Very condemning speaking as a lamb or as the Lion from the tribe of Judah. This was their death sentence and the nation as well. See the "wrath of the lamb" Rev.6:16.
I'm curious about how he was able to smuggle this book out of prison and what the penalty was if one would be caught doing so. Francis Bacon once said, “Read not to believe and take for granted, nor to contradict and confute, but to weigh and consider.” I have been a Prederist for thirty plus years and I cannot see this book as prophetic (I mean it does not speak of the future). The Revelation of Jesus Christ are the first five words that tell the whole story. To my understanding, it reveals his nature and his work on earth and his permanent reign in the dimension we call Heaven. Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. The same yesterday, today, and forever. The Holy Spirit can only live in an environment of Empathy and Compassion, and Mercy; what we know as Love. We have extra help to stay on his path. Moses fed the tribes the flesh and blood of the villages that they destroyed along the way, including those in Egypt (Exo 12:35; 36). They gave everything they had to spare their lives, that's the real reason they were chased by the Pharaoh. They seemed to lack Empathy and Compassion even for each other. They were the children of blood and war and worshiped might and power. Gen 49:5 Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. Gen 49:6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. Gen 49:7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. Exo 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. "The lessons from the history are, so long as pride, ambition, and revenge are harboured, men will ever scheme afresh to their own hurt." - Faussat The blood thirsty god of Moses was a man of war and Yeshua guided them into the land of Canaan; But our God is a man of Peace, Yeshua, who guides us to his abode. The law of reciprocity was in full effect in choosing his name (Matt 1:21), that's for certain. From the taker of life to the giver of life. Yeshua is the Hebrew name for the Greek Iesus, and its English spelling is "Joshua." The translators seem to love making the simple complicated. When my perspective changed, the meaning became clear. No mystery to me anymore, by his blood we are redeemed. I like his ways and i'm thankful that I can spend eternity in Rapture now that the old man died and as a new man, Resurrected from the dead (Eph 2:1).
Bruce. I wish to thank you for this series of lectures, and the great care you no doubt put into making them. It really shows that for you, it was a labor of love. I am looking forward to getting your book - "Historical and Chronological Context of the Bible". I am somewhat concerned however. It is obvious that your approach to eschatology is PRETERIST. No crime in that. I find much in at least "Partial-Preterism" which has strong argument; but not so much with FULL-PRETERISM; that is, suggesting the entirety of the prophecies in synoptic Olivet Discourses ( Matt.24; Mk.13; Lk.21) along with the book of Revelation being PAST-TENSE, and accomplished by AD 70. To be clear: I am NOT suggesting your are guilty of the same errors as "Hyper-Preterist" are; i.e.- wherein they say the resurrection of the dead already occurred. No, I don't think you would agree with that. Yet one thing you do seem to avoid is addressing the issue of Irenaeus' not-so "ambiguous" statement that the Apostle John penned Revelation in the latter part of Emperor Domitian's reign. Which, if true would certainly late date it's publication to some time after AD 95-96. Which, again, if true makes your preterist interpretation untenable. You promised to address the Irenaeus citation at mark 6:30 in your next session ("Letters to the Seven Churches"); but having watched it as well as the following one thoroughly, I was disappointed to find you did NOT. It does SEEM as though you may have deliberately skipped over him, since you did indeed list a number of other Early Church Fathers. None of them however could offer any clear rebuttal to your position, like Irenaeus does. Please address this when you have time.
Several people have asked that question and Gore has responded. I haven't watched them yet, but his reply says he deals with the dating of Revelation in videos #11, 12, and 13 of this series.
@@oracleoftroy Yes, I HAVE watched them, and NO he doesn't address this issue, which for many, is a silence which speaks louder than words. He has other perplexing issues to deal with however, and none of them are dealt with either. For example there is POLYCARP. He was the FIRST Bishop ("Angel") of the Church in Smyrna. A very few historians debate that. The problem for Peterist who so desperately want (NEED) to date John's writing of the BoR prior to Jerusalem's fall in AD 70 is... Polycarp was only a new-born infant when that calamitous event occurred! And by the way... even more damning to the Preterist early dating schema is the fact that there was NO Church at Smyrna yet either! All of this is solidly established historical FACT! How then could Christ be addressing him as an active Bishop ("Angel") over the Church in Smyrna? I have heard only a few attempts by Preterist to explain this, none of which hold water. The worst was one which seems to epitomize much of the Preterist hermeneutic:i.e.- SPIRITUALIZING of the texts, and events so as to fit their narrative. One Preterist "apologist" who will remain unnamed (as I have no interest in making any ad hominem attacks here)...suggested that Christ had John record his letter to Polycarp and the Smyrna Church in ANTICIPATION of that yet future day in which they would indeed exist!🙄 You know, were it not such a serious matter, I might laugh at that. But it really is no laughing matter, is it? When backed into a corner by questions which appeal to FACT and not just clever rhetoric and wishful thinking: They resort to fantasy using the most reprehensible hermeneutical gimmickry ever seen. 😕 Personally, when I witness this occurring I lose all respect for that individual. I do encourage Bruce Gore to see this and reply. 😇
@@troyfruge3309 In that case, it might be best to post a new top level reply, perhaps in the videos themselves to explain why his case is lacking. He seems active in the comments, but I don't know if he would see it buried here.
Very dangerous hermeneutic being put forth here; that the events of AD70 somehow structure and define biblical terms and principles. The Jewish temple and its destruction in AD70 in no way gave meaning to passages such as 1 Pet. 2:5 or Eph. 2:21,22. Christ did.
Not only does Jerusalem sit on 7 hills, which is almost NEVER even brought up, but scripture itself says that mystery babylon is JERUSALEM! that is why it was JERUSALEM who was punished and received the curses in the book of Revelation, which John wrote BEFORE 70AD, as to what was about to happen to the harlot Jerusalem. Yes Rome was a type of harlot, yes the catholic church is a type, but scripture is speaking of Jerusalem. It says it point blank, yet many wont accept it and then return to labeling this upon Rome. Rome was the 4th beast of Daniel. But the iron mixed with clay, was Rome mixing with Israel, in the holy land of Jerusalem.
Here is the issue Bruce does not ever weigh the possibility that he could be wrong about the timing of Revelation and the framing of eschatology. A good attorney and detective weighs all views examine the pros and cons of each view. Let the last two verses of Revelation govern their teaching on Revelations. There is a very heavy punishment on those who ADD to the words of Revelation.
The state of Israel already has the mark of the beast over it as well...the star of David (which really isn't the star of David) but of Saturn has 666 in it.
An outstanding book on the Dispensationalism heresy is: "Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth" by Dr. John Gertsner. It is available on Amazon. Make sure you get the second addition.
Hello Bruce, what is your opinion about John the Divine's death as the Church say he died 100AD. Do you think he died earlier because Mary is recorded dying 41AD. I realised that if Revelation was correct then he would have been raptured along with the Jewish Christians or died before the start of the War of the Jews. Appreciate your thoughts on this.
There is reasonable support for the theory that John lived in Ephesus well into the late first century and cared for Mary during those years. It is likely they both died of natural causes, but Catholics affirm the 'assumption' of Mary on dogmatic grounds.
The Temple of Solomon (annual sun) is the human body. Temple is "built" in seven years (seven months) beginning with April/Taurus. It is alway "destroyed" in 70 A.D (7). upon completion (end of summer of seven months) every year. Biblical Herod is not a person but the "hero of the path" = the apparent movement of the sun through the 12 signs of the Mazzaroth.
This question has puzzled me for ages. If Nero was the sixth and Galba was the seventh and Last. Where does Ottho and Vitellius fit in, aren’t they the 8th and 9th. The Flavian dynasty doesn’t start until Vespasian comes in. So in Revelation it says 5 have been , one is (Nero) and one is to come!!! But there was 3 to come Galba, Ottho and Vitellius. Can someone actually explain this properly. I know my history pretty well, so please don’t spin junk to me. Appreciate an informed answer.
It is a fair question. You may know that I am doing a verse by verse study of Revelation as part of this series. We are currently finishing up chapter 9. The text you refer to is in chapter 17. I am aware of the problem you reference, and will treat the matter in detail when we reach that chapter. If I gave a brief response here, it would certainly strike you as inadequate, and a comprehensive answer would require more space than is practical in this context. I hope you will be patient.
I hope you continue to post the rest of this series. The Apocalypse is one of my favorites. I should be interesting to see where we agree and disagree on points. So far, we mostly agree. I do not, however, agree with the notion that, because the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE is the main subject, that the book was necessarily written prior to the event. It could have be composed ex-eventu. Looking forward to seeing more.
I have been mesmerized by your video series for about the last two or three months. I am especially enamored with your knowledge of ancient history, and as a matter of fact, I play your videos all week almost everyday. I will however contend with you as it pertain to your biblical interpretations. As much as it pains me to say this sir but these projectories are not biblically sound. Who am I, well I'm just a regular ole guy with a couple of years of college, a bunch of certificates and certifications in various genres, with a little experience and talents here and there. You however appear to be a world class historian / anthropologist equal to anyone anywhere. I do however think that you are stepping out of your league when you attempt to interpret the Scriptures. This is not a put down just an observation. I mean hey, we can't be great at all things equally. I know you're going to pull out a cannon and blow my fool head off but I gotta call it as I see it especially when I'm dealing with a genius like you. As heavyweight Larry Holmes said about footballer Ed too tall Jones when he attempted to cross over into boxing quote, he was alright until he took that helmet off.
I've been studying scripture for 40 years. The Lord brought me to see a long time ago that Premillenial views are NOT sound doctrine despite the sincerity of those who hold them. Apostolic teaching that is sound says that Christ's kingdom is NOW. The most solid scriptural evidence for this is found in Acts 2, in Peter's address to the crowd after the Holy Spirit fell on the gathering of believers. THIS IS THE FIRST ANOINTED MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL AFTER THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS. The key verse is 2:36- "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, BOTH LORD AND CHRIST." Premils also tend to promote the idea that the nation of Israel currently occupying Palestine got there as part of God's plan to "bring them to Christ" in fulfillment of OT prophecy. This whole argument proceeds from a false understanding of scripture; it directly contradicts what Paul writes in Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, and Corinthians. Eph 2:13-22 could not be clearer regarding this doctrine- God has fulfilled his promise to Abraham in the creating of his people, the church, which is comprised of people from EVERY NATION.
Nero, as I have read, committed suicide, the army wanted to kill him, but he cut his own throat after his servant refused to kill him...they were going to flog him to death.
Read Seutonius's account. Nero kills himself after trying to find someone, anyone to do the job for him. He died the most miserable lonesome death in recorded ancient history. Daniel 11:45 I've taugh this for a few decades as well as Daniel 9-12 and now am about to start Isaiah at church. I teach it all as the transition from Judaism to Christianity in the 1st century, ending with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. Your Assyrian stuff is quite useful. Would love to chat sometime.
Most scholars date Rev around 95 AD under Domitian. From what I have learned only a small number say it was written before the fall of Jerusalem. Just sayin'.... I believe one of the 7 churches didn't exist before 70 AD. Nicolatians aren't mentioned in any of Paul's letters, either, and he died around 67 AD. Finally, Ireneaus, who was a disciple of Polycharp who was discipled by John the Revelator said it was written during the time of Domitian. I am guessing Irenaeus's knowledge was passed down from the author, which matters. All that said, it is nice to hear another perspective, and your views are certainly worth investigating.
If you are interested in my more detailed treatment of this question, you will find it in lectures #11 and #12 of this series. Thanks for your interest.
@@brucegore4373 Thanks! I would also like to see sources for your assertions. For example, Nero's persecution of Christians outside of Rome. I understand that his move against Christians was limited to Rome. Best wishes!
Kattackal Tomsan I am also a Full Preterist. Believing Revalation was written under Nero (Early date) does not make you a preterist but it is the only date that allows Preterism. I appreciate this lecture. Even if I disagree with all his views, this was helpful.
AstronomyUpdate, I'm curious why you say that the preterist view must be written under Nero. Even though the author writes as if it is written under Nero, how could he have known that the next Caesar would only serve a short time? It seems to me that for any preterist view the later you can assume it was written the better because the fullness of the events would be better known. On the other hand, perhaps he is extrapolating that the next Caesar won't serve long because these are the signs of the times and the end is near. Perhaps he didn't know that he was actually being prophetic about the reign of the next Caesar. I suppose it if it had been written in 90AD he wouldn't have mentioned only the one short rule, but the several that followed. heh, I think I may have just answered my own question.
@Born at 33 I think I may have misunderstood the definition of Preterism at the time I wrote that comment. Upon further reading, Preterism seems to say that these prophecies are of things that have already been fulfilled, or partially fulfilled (as in the case of partial preterism), but not that they aren't prophecies at all. By that reasoning, your assertion that Revelation had to have happened before 70 AD makes perfect sense. Otherwise, the preterist interpretation that it was fulfilled in 70 AD would disqualify it from being prophecy altogether. TL;DR I missed the point that it still has to remain prophecy regardless of the degree of preterism you prescribe to.
Revelation is all symbolic and is about the time of the end. Wonderful book about destruction of Christendom false religion . Favourite scripture is “ and death will be no more neither crying nor morning anymore”.
Excellent content...I finally started at the beginning after listening to others down the line. I see you drive a stake fairly early as an early date, early preterist? (early date < 66AD, early Pret: Babylon = Jerusalem's fall, Late Pret: Babylon = Rome's fall.) I have read Gentry, Chilton, Sproul, Gregg, others...I'll listen. critiques: 1. Nero's persecution was local, not empire wide. Domitian (in 95AD) would have had relevance to the churches in Asia Minor to whom received the book. And the book of Ephesus written when Paul was in prison (64AD?) was doing great, but in Rev Ch2, they lost their first love. That happened in a couple years? 2. Revelations doesn't need to be written before 66AD in order to confirm the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The Christians had the gospels and the Olivet discourse, and they knew what was up when Gallus retreated, as you pointed out. That is from the gospels. I see no purpose in Asia Minor or in the first three centuries to specify an early date/early preterist application. I could see believers who suffer under Daniel's 4th beast over 3 centuries, seeing prophetic fulfillment and application to them. Jay Adams in his Daniel/Time at Hand series makes the best case, IMO, for a late preterist application. 3. Per your reference to Ch17, Even if Nero is #5, short 3 #6, and Vesapian #7, Who is #8?? And why? Doesn't scripture tell us who is #8? " The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit[b] and go to destruction. " Who come out of the bottomless pit in Rev 20 in the Amil frame? Satan. Who WAS roaming the earth before bound, was bound = IS NOT, and about to rise out of the BPit? Satan If Satan is about to rise out of the bottomless pit as #8, and it is after the 1000 years, that kind of implies a future application to Rev 17. My point 2 is that an early date/early Pret application has real application issues. Why would God give a prophetic revelation in 65AD that only had a 5 years application? Once Jerusalem is gone, ALL prophecy is OVER, fulfilled, for Revelations says it is last, only metaphor and spiritual truths are left for the church. Second, this take is food and fodder for the FULL Preterist teachers, like Don Preston. Full preterism leads to sin of the flesh (note Onieda community) and Paul notes it in scripture of those who say the resurrection has happened. To say the Lord has really returned and we are in the NH and NE looses the fear of God in the hearts of his return. You are not teaching that, but your position in the ONLY take a full preterist is able to stand upon. ALL eschatology is about ending Jerusalem, the old system, fulfilling and ending ALL OT prophecy...everything is fulfilled SPIRTUALLY in Christ and the CHRUCH. Is it not odd that 1950 years of church history is now irrelevant? But the path of God's people in the OT was choreographed by the Psalms and prophets ALL the way from creation to 70AD for the Israel/Jews. And now 2000 years of silence and guess work until the Ithess 4:16-17 return? Being a full preterist makes more sense than a partial preterist, who is now inserting their own "gap" theory about prophecy. Give the dispies a break.
Still don’t understand. So that means that the book of Revelations has been mostly fulfill. Was left? 1.Second coming of Jesus Christ 2. Final Judgement 3. Armageddon 4. Being in heaven with God for the eternity
Thank you for your thoughtful questions. For my treatment of these and related matters, please review lectures 11,12,13 of this series, available at the RUclips Playlist: ruclips.net/video/rTqxCTu2OjM/видео.html
The "lake of fire" is one of several dreadful images for eternal punishment meted out to the unrepentant. (...and by the way, I do not regard myself as a "preterist" theologically. I take a preterest approach to the book of Revelation. There is a difference, as you probably know).
My friend, I am a mainstream, and not very original Presbyterian. That means I heartily embrace every word of the classical creeds of the church, include the oft-repeated affirmation, "...from thence he shall return to judge the living and the dead." Of the timing of that return, "No man knows the day nor the hour." Of the fact of that return, nothing could be more certain. So, to answer your very good question...Yes!!
Bruce, when you mentioned the Temple, the Holy Spirit moved me to remembering these verses from Christ Jesus: John 4:19-24 NASB The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. [20] Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." [21] Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. [22] You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. [23] But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. [24] God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." Simply amazing!!!
Imagine you belong to a church and you can attend such amazing lectures. What a gift that is.
Exactly
I have battled for roughly 6 years to understand revelation. Thats how long ive been a Christian. I am currently an convinced Amillenial partial preterist ( for last couple of years) and once i found out that you were teaching this on here, sir, i was, and am, so grateful. I just graduated Bible college and plan to devour this series. Thankyou so much. Praise Christ.
It is a blessing to me to hear from you, sir. Thanks for your kind feedback, and blessings in your ongoing studies of God's Word.
Check out Arianism. Praise the God, only Lord, not his earthly prophet, flesh and blood.
@@GoreBruce This is how I understand the word "soon" or "near" in certain verses from Revelation 1 such as in verses 1 to 3:
"The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near." ( REVISED STANDARD VERSION )
I understand that the message was delivered to the very original recipients of the book which were the first-century christians.
Hi Jordan. Are you still an Amilenial partial preterist?
It took me a long time to get out from under the Scofield Bible and Vernon McGee, and I am pretty much where you are at.
My friend, a comment like yours makes it all worth it. Thank you!
Bible colleges are ran by Satan now.

Fantastic teaching, thank-you so much for these free lectures.
That is my sincere hope! Thank you!
@@GoreBruce Hi Is the book of revelation written in chronological order? Just a thought I had about it.
Revelation tells the same story twice, once with a focus on Christ (chapters 1 - 11), and then with a focus on God's people (12 - 22).
Superb teaching. This is what we need, good sound historical biblical teaching. Only this perspective can truly make sense of the book of Revelation.
Revelation interprets itself.
This is a misinterpretation im sorry.
@@joshportie Maybe you are confused because you have been indoctrinated to believe the futuristic belief that is hardly 200 years old? Check out the background of liars like John Darby and C.I. Steve Zane it is. You know it when you hear it
@@joshportie There is no way that a contemporary who reads John's Revelation for the first time would understand the symbolism.

The seven heads are seven mountains,
on which the woman sits.

Bruce is wrong in his views of scripture
The historical record about Tiberius' intellgence reports and his proposition to the senate blew my mind.
Bruce, I have a question for you. In Daniel 9. 24 it says - to seal up the vision and prohecy, what does that mean.

I would like to point out one little piece of historical data which will support your argument for an early date of the book of Revelation, and it has to do with Domitian. Everyone quotes Ireneaus and gives the book a 90’s date, because obviously that is when Domitian reigned. However (and this is a BIG however), watch this:
Domitian’s father was Vespasian.
Thank you!
@@GoreBruce .. thank you Dr. Gore
What is your source for Antipas dying in Pergamum in 92?

Wikipedia is were lots of info (be it right or wrong) is usually the first site to check.
Interesting, I appreciate all this info here. Thank you very much.

Christopher Lee Interesting perspective. Thank you!

Francis Bacon once said, “Read not to believe and take for granted, nor to contradict and confute, but to weigh and consider.”
I have been a Prederist for thirty plus years and I cannot see this book as prophetic (I mean it does not speak of the future).
"The lessons from the history are, so long as pride, ambition, and revenge are harboured, men will ever scheme afresh to their own hurt." - Faussat
The blood thirsty god of Moses was a man of war and Yeshua guided them into the land of Canaan; But our God is a man of Peace, Yeshua, who guides us to his abode.

No reply. The only sound to be heard are the crickets!

@@GoreBruce Thanks for your thoughts on this.
I believe it was written before 70 ad.
The Book of Revelation will make sense to u once u look at it through the len of 70AD, through the perspective of Preterism
Great video. Only one small detail that wasn't correct-Nero wasn't executed in AD68, he committed suicide
Yes thank you. His suicide was forced upon him to avoid execution.
The matter of suicides is small. It is becase of Neros accusations that the slaughter of christians began... That is more if a toppic to consider...

Tacitus reports that Nero was faced with the choice of killing himself, or being executed by the Roman soldiers who found him hiding in Athens.
Read Seutonius's account. Nero kills himself after trying to find someone, anyone to do the job for him. He died the most miserable lonesome death in recorded ancient history.
Daniel 11:45

I assume Revelation is written before AD 70
@@Mrbillcollierjr That is my conviction. I treat the question of when Revelation was written more thoroughly later in this series.
He doesn't sound like a lunatic so this video series on Revolution seems promising.
Excellent content...I finally started at the beginning after listening to others down the line.
I see you drive a stake fairly early as an early date, early preterist? (early date < 66AD, early Pret: Babylon = Jerusalem's fall, Late Pret: Babylon = Rome's fall.) I have read Gentry, Chilton, Sproul, Gregg, others...I'll listen.
critiques:
This video is all wrong.
......the 7 kings exist until the end the last one is the papacy the first was babylon according to daniel 2
Thank you!
What is the lake of fire from the Preterist perceptive?
The "lake of fire" is one of several dreadful images for eternal punishment meted out to the unrepentant. (...and by the way, I do not regard myself as a "preterist" theologically. I take a preterest approach to the book of Revelation. There is a difference, as you probably know).
Bruce Gore I didn't know there was a difference. Do you believe in a second coming of Christ in OUR future or no?
My friend, I am a mainstream, and not very original Presbyterian. That means I heartily embrace every word of the classical creeds of the church, include the oft-repeated affirmation, "...from thence he shall return to judge the living and the dead." Of the timing of that return, "No man knows the day nor the hour." Of the fact of that return, nothing could be more certain. So, to answer your very good question...Yes!!
Bruce, when you mentioned the Temple, the Holy Spirit moved me to remembering these verses from Christ Jesus:
John 4:19-24 NASB
The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. [24] God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Simply amazing!!!
Amen to that!
