I really don't understand why people complain about BMW maintenance. You want to drive best driving vehicle, you have to pay up.I owned BMWs for 30 years now,and only bad thing about them are oil leaks. And that maintenance, change oil every 4k with high quality oil, make sure that you don't worn brakes to the metal,do alignment every year and that is pretty much it.I have 2 of BMWs now e60 and e70 35d and I love it.This diesel is monster especially after scr dpf delete. In the end if you want to own BMW you have to have money for someone to do that stuff for you or you have to do by yourself.Just don't ignore when you see or feel something is not right.Common sense.

Paid the dealer $100 diagnostic fee, they printed out all the defects with part numbers. I found the OEM parts online and ordered the radiator, gaskets, BMW oil, filters (oil, air and cabin) and iridium plugs for $500. Did the labor myself, saved over $4K for what the dealer wanted. But, it since has had to a water pump and is now needing some suspension items. Yes, they are money pits, but fun to drive. I also had the problem with the rear hatch and changing the limit settings in the menu allowed it to work.

Let viewers watch as it is being auctioned..show it live etc. You are a mechanic....why not fix some of cars up and try to get used parts and keeps cost low. MOST times you pay way too much for the cars right outside the gate..Need to try to get at a way lower price. Than fix on budget, sell at auction for profit..I know your gf is right...paying way to much than fixing than taking a loss...are you doing any research of the actual value of the cars at auction or just bidding with no research..just curious..and you will buy yourself the tesla or hellcat and why dont you do any content with those. I’d think of it as the average car payment must be around 500-600 a month so if you buy something like that for a little over 2k if you get 5 months out of it without putting any real money into it you got your money out of and you could send it back to auction at any point

I have the 4.8L engine in my X5. FOr reliability sake, I would replace all spark plugs and coils first. OEM valve cover is $300

I've got a 2006 version of this car. Mine has the sticker in the glove box...was $68k. Have been able to do many projects on it....(door handle carrier today).. these are tanks but with a little knowhow and youtube, these cars are do-able. Certain things are outrageous but...you're driving a high end car for Peanuts.

Once you go Beemer you can't go to a Chevy cruz! lol 325's plastic overflow blows headgaskets like every 10mins! whoever thought a pressurized and hearted system would be perfect with plastic is a dum dum! Jessica and you had the right decision. Those things after so many years are potential money pits. Have you seen Hoovies Garage episode with the X5? The exhaust line was so expensive to replace and few other parts so costly to service that he decided to sell it to the scrapyard. One thousand times any Lexus SUV or Toyota than that. BMW's are good for 100k Miles or to be used under warranty.

That was a quick flip. 😮. The BMW is a good car IF you do the work yourself. Nothing is easy on them, so even simple things to fix take hours. The labour cost is what kills and torches the wallet. Parts seem pricey but really they are not excessive when comparing any high end domestic (Cadillac, Buick,..). I really enjoy our 328 and am looking at an X5. But if I did not do the maintenance myself I certainly would stay away from them. Oil leaks are common on every BMW. Either ignore and live with it or be prepared for hours-n-hours of labour to get to the gaskets to change them. The gaskets are really cheap $. It is the labour to get to them is what drains the bank.

I own an F10 535xi xdrive , 7 speed transmission, plenty power out of the box, for 3 years now. I replace parts before they break, with OEM , I replaced the valve cover gasket before it started leaking, and guess what, the gasket was no longer rubber, meaning it wasn’t malleable , no flex or bending . If you like me and including some others. I’m the type to get under my car , two or three times minimum a month To do a visual inspection, bushings, shocks , rotors and pads . If you Stay ahead of your maintenance (applies to any car) your German car will treat you good. The problem is poseurs give this car bad rep. Anyone can buy one new or used, but when is time to maintain one, they look away and drive it till the wheels fall off.

The power tailgate may have failed because these cars are notorious for clogged sunroof drains. Water will pool up in the sunroof assembly, make its way down the d-pillar and pool up in the passenger side of the trunk where the tailgate module sits. It'll get flooded and ruined from that. My girlfriend's 2012 X5 had that happen to it. I'm so glad we sold that car now lol.

If maintenance history was good, wouldn't worry. As someone else said, check sunroof drains for blockage. Valve cover gasket should be a straightforward job, no worse than valve covers on a 2002 3.3 Nissan Frontier.

New ones might not necessarily be a better option. Those old inline 6 engines without turbo are reliable. It cannot be said about anything that BMW makes today I believe. It would be cool to see that car around. Although personally I am counting for some interesting sedan to stay longer on the channel 👍
