the fact of how simple it is to convert it over to a different game makes it so much better and something that would take 3 hours to code only took an hour! thanks griffpatch.
This is something I've always wanted compacted and yet this is the most simplest I've ever seen. The techniques in these tutorial just keep getting more clever!
Nice! This is a super useful sprite to add to the backpack. I just added it to my Rocket Canyon Run project and it dropped in SUPER easy to an existing game. Thanks for sharing these with us.
Made my day! I was making a game and was having troubles with the health bars - this is sure to help a lot!! Thank you Griffpatch for always making such useful tutorials!
This tutorial is not only helpful for a shooting game, it can literally work in any game! Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into every video to help us with block coding. Scratch will surely help me a lot to build a base for learning other programming languages and these tutorials are just what I need!
I've always wondered how retro games do pop-up talking texts of characters' conversations. but in Scratch, doing something like this is terribly impossible. It would help a lot if you make a video about it.
Hey Griffpatch, thanks for the tutorial. I'm working on a totally cool little turn-based combat thingy, and this helps a lot for showing each character's HP and mana. Keep up the good work! and stuff.
I swear griff is so damn underrated. You put so much effort into your projects and videos, and yet get minimal attention for it. Anyways, just wanted to say that i absolutely love your content, has been a fan ever since 2017, keep up the good work!
He's really good, i agree, but do all those scratchers have to smash the follow/heart/star buttons until their fingers break? he's a bit overrated on scratch but here on youtube it's better.
Looks cool! Can't wait to add this to my projects! Did you know that I have like 85+ unread messages on Scratch because I haven't opened the messages page?! (because of my exams) Maybe I can add this to Appel's boss.
Your tutorials are what make me a good scratcher. Coding is hard but when we have someone like you it helps me understand it better. Thanks for all your videos and projects! -xxxxGam3rBoyxxxx
i was about to make a very random-ish project about a app in a scratch project(a platformer) and you posted this and this was really useful for me, thank you griffpatch for making this!
Very happy about the length and detail of griffpatch's tutorials Funnily enough, there is a scratch tutorial for a very poor """pacman""" on a different channel who takes baby steps for each part (making _two_ costumes is all in ONE PART, and that is not an exaggeration)
thanks as I am trying a lot since 3 years from this year I was trying to make fnaf 2d this helped a lot not only we can apply this to a full game we can apply this to small movements in cut scenes and you have a healthy upload schedule which is great
Man, even watching these concepts be done on a child’s programming language, these videos remind me that I can always “work smarter not harder” and that I usually end up on the latter half of that phrase haha
For a more dynamic health bar I use a sprite for the outline and a clone for the health portion itself, that changes it's x position based on whatever variable it's monitoring, as well as changing color. Pros: Looks better, don't need to make a lot of costumes. Cons: The bar must be on the edge of the screen so you don't see the health clipping out one side.
Remember that platformer project that I tried to add Crafting to? Now I made an entire sprite to show every bar/indicator! Will let anyone in need know if finished.
I'll admit, at first I thought this would just be another pen health-bar showcase which I tend not to like because Scratch still makes anything to do with pen blurry. But I was pleasantly surprised! They look great!
Basicially : make number# of sprites for how many live boxes you have : then make sure you add health like health=(number) then you make a health thingy i dunno how to code woth that Then you create to clone the thingy to your bar then you follow your character above...

I really like these backpackable scratch things that can be used in any project. You should consider making more of these

My pleasure, I played it! Really cool
griffpatch: drawing a health bar wih no outline 2:44
also griffpatch: up the outline width to 4 3:30
If you draw with the outline turned on, then it's hard to align it to the grid... So I draw it with it off, and then turn it on afterwards :)

Try making your own letter graphics and don't rely on scratch say blocks

Use or make a custom text engine with clones ez!!!
