Making video games can be really tough. But thanks to cool game engines like Scratch, it's incredibly simple. It uses a high-level, visual scripting language to help teach kids and adults how to program. And honestly, it's perfect for people who are asking the question "How to learn how to program?" or "How to make video games". And after my last programming video using C++, let's see just how easy Scratch MIT is to use.
#Gamedev #Programming #Scratch
this is the cutest scratch game I’ve ever seen
You made Ducky very happy.
Indeed
my games are more cute 🤓
@PolyMars Uranus is better than Mars.

Although scratch may appear limiting at first glance, I can assure you, if you know what you're doing, it isn't. Some very smart people have programmed entire 3d rendering engines, rigidbody physics, softbody physics, raytracers, and more all within scratch.
Yea like griffpatch
Was about to say this but looks like I don’t need to
I said it😂😂😂
Turbowarp: allow me to introduce myself
griffpatch has a tutorial of making a 3D game.
Hey, pro scratcher of 6 years here:
It's incredible that a scratch devlog, especially for such a simple game, could gain 200k views on youtube! Well done sir :3
Edit: 1.2M views. WHAT
hi Chipm0nk
hewo
Haiii
no way, its chipm0nk
hi f4f
I can't believe this is becoming a series. I am just wondering what regular task you will turn into a game next.
LOL, how about working on Dewdrop task? haha I'm gonna cool it with these and primarily start posting Dewdrop Devlogs from now on.
I can't belive that
1.its so cute
2. It took 2 hours no way!!!
3. WHERES THE LINK???
@@ThatGurl_Mac its in the description
No
I used to love reading the Scratch books as a kid. I love the adorable and friendly stylization of the game!
Thanks so much! :D
@@Goodgis what do you use to design your costumes?? hopefully you see this comment love your videos
Crazy that you did this in 2 hours and in scratch! Keep it up.
Thanks so much! :D
HOW DARE U POINT OUT ITS MADE IN SCRATCH (SO ITS "HARDER")
SCRATCH IS SO EASY
@@Edvit40 easy for simple, harder for complex. its oriented for beginners so doing something complex like this is 2x as hard as other game engines
@@Edvit40 Scratch has less customizability and you don't really choose what to do and there is only a few functions.
@@Edvit40 you can technically make anything, and making simple things is pretty easy, but you have to make almost everything from scratch (hence the name) so more complex projects are much harder to make than other game engines, especially if you want it to run at a reasonable framerate
Woah!! A scratch devlog 😮
I have been using it for a while,
Its funny how people underestimate the program to be only for starters, and then when I show them what is possible with it their jaw drops 😂
P.S: I have made a fangame called DewDrop Fannasty for the game a while back! You can find the trailer I made for it 😄
I've actually played it! You did a great job with it. :D
Scratch users are either little kids that want to get into programming or programming masters capable of creating an OS in scratch
@@randomname2437 or people with little skill but big ambition (me)
@@mysingingmonstersfan1023 ambition really takes you far
@@randomname2437 Most OS's in scratch are shells that have like 3 programs. Real technical projects are hard to find.
As a featured creator as scratch I was super excited to see this video! 0:34 the "Dream Express" Game that is shown is my game! ✨ Its super epic seeing more people use scratch!
LOVE the cozy aesthetic, that duck is too cute :)
Thanks dude! It's the chibi cousin to your goose guy. haha
@@Goodgis hey Goodgis, what program do you use for artwork?? it looks very good, and i want to try it out.
@@Goodgis what app did you use to get designs?

EVEN MORE!?
MORE DUCK GAMES CONFIRMED??????

I dont like when people talk about scratch like its a tool to make trash. Because its like a brush: use it badly, you'll make trash, use it well, youll make a masterpiece. Same with scratch.
Every time I hear about creating your own game I just start thinking of the possibilities of what I can do vs my willingness to do it.
no way it wasn't a platformer with a player character of a black square with curved edges and a single eye
jokes aside, i'm glad you got around to doing this!
FR,, looking at scratch now I scream internally every time I see one. I rarely play them. I miss playing old warrior cat games haha
Ah, scratch. I used to remember using it for the first time and I couldn't figure it all out. Nice to see new people interested in it :)!
im so happy you did a video on scratch. I remember disliking scratch because its a website "for 6yrs". I gave scratch a shot over quarentine because i didnt know anythng about game engines and had no other options. I fell in love with the simple yet limitless engine. i saw some incredible projects on scratch and had my mind completely blown. scratch has taught me that problems doesnt have to be solved the traditional way, there could always be easier solutions.
I loved using scratch back in middle school, and it is what got me into programming games. Love your videos Goodgis
Thanks so much! :D It's really cool to play around with.
The artstyle looks AMAZING!
I've waited for this video for such a long time! It turned out amazing!
Ok. Currently for me it takes me about two weeks to code a game at this level and when I saw this game on scratch, I was so impressed. But hey. To be fair you are a coder in reality. I hope to see you post more regularly on scratch!! ❤
I really like the art you’ve been doing for the games recently, Scratch is a great game engine and it’s what I started using. Although it’s visual and fairly basic it’s a great way to learn the mindset of a programmer!
This is definitely a cute and cosy game you've made! I love the lil duckie! Looks like a good lil chef.
Nice work with using Scratch, this is how I initially got into making games/programming as my school would teach this to us, and it's great software you can definitely do a lot with ti!
I have made soft-bodied simulations in Scratch. But If I had half the artistic talent as you, I could go miles. Good job. I have showed them to AIA and AdventureMase already, I wish I could show you too.
Omg I used to use scratch so much when I was little. It's such a nice tool, I started my first major game project recently with playmaker and all of the stuff I learned with scratch helped me get feel comfortable so quickly.
Beautiful, please make more Scratch Projects!
i actually played this in class the other day before I even saw this!! its really fun, thanks for making :))
you actually made it!!! crazy imma watch this as soon as possible
Scratch animator here. Well done on your first Scratch endeavor! Came out really clean! Absolutely love it :)
Trying to make my own games in Scratch was my first dive into coding.
Funnily enough, my peers and i more often used scratch for creating animations.
This unlocked a childhood memory I didn't know I had of creating games in school using Scratch
Bro!! I just started doimg scratch qt schoo..lmao you are putting un the WORKS for this
This ended up sooo cute, Im inspired to try it out now
Scratch is one of my favourite game engines just because of how accessible it is for a young audience (aka younger me ahaha)
thank you for making a video with it!! very cute btw ^u^
Totally i loved this amazing game , i think i got ideas , too . thanks .
*smooth movement code*
when green flag clicked
forever *inside*
change x by *operator (mouse y) - (y position)*
put that operator into another operator but its a divider * ( (mouse y - (y position) / 10)
there its very simple actually
This is easily one of the cutest scratch games I’ve ever seen :o
i used to be on scratch, nice to see you work in it :)
It's was super easy to work with. Definitely see why it's so popular.
3:38 This is amazing
Also your avatar looks like such a whimsical fellow
Scratch was my first social media. I loved that site
your art style is simply charming.
great to see someone actually appreciating scratch instead of dumping on it!
I literally played this yesterday and then i wanted to make my own game and when i looked up how this came up. i find that really cool and funny!
You made me go back to my roots ❤
you've given me inspiration to begin coding again! (my only platform I know how to code on is scratch lol)
bro i literally played this game at school like 3 days ago like i love but hat this game so much like ahhhhhhhh
Scratch can be a very powerfull tool when used properly. I've seen some almost triple A titles on scratch.
Brooo what a beatifukl graphics!! So perfect and cute
Before even watching the video, I saw a comment. Then, I saw you reply: “you made ducky happy”. I am now watching the video happily with my min exploding with cuteness.
Ngl i actually have been using brilliant for a while, and it’s actually good. It’s helped me a lot!
Hey Goodgis, thanks for the video!
I watched alot of your videos and I was wondering if you thought about having one to share with us how do you create ART game assets with your artstyle (not the pixel art, but the vector one)?
We saw a bit in this video here, but a video about color palette, layers, masks, forms would be really interesting (with your design background)!
Thanks! :)
i have followed you, liked and faved Duckys Cozy Kitchen
I tried out the game and the fact that a game of a cute duck just swatting flies has no ending has driven me into an existential crisis
LOL
C# monogame would be so cool ! Nice vid btw
Yooo this is cool! One thing though, you can import your Artwork directly as an SVG, for a smoother look.
2 years ago i started learning scratch on my own, my teacher started teaching the class scratch, and at the end of the year, i need to present a game in scratch.
That's sick! You should have exported the art in SVG to keep the resolution, great video!
scratch was my childhood !!! super cool video
really cool vid im just learning godot and you are my inspiration
Omg I just played this game at school how did this apper on my home page this is so cool
Perfect timing!
;)
I played it and now I am subscribing
Perfect timing
man makes fun yet educational content, and I'm very surprised how he hasn't passed 100 million subscribers yet
I love ur style of art pls make a tutorial I would love to follow along and make my games look this good!!!!!!!!!!
The game looks fun and super adorable.
I absolutely ADORE this art style! May I please use it for Ludum Dare 53?
So cute and looks like a game that would be in the App Store!
scratch was actually the first engine I tried and the first I made a complete little game. Nice to see that the engine is still popular!
Me too!
Your art style is so cute
fun video! i use unity for my games but i sometimes pick up scratch when i get bored. maybe try writing a game in x86 assembly if you really want to take up a tough challenge!
I just plaid and it’s so much fun!! (To me) but I definitely think it needs some improvement but amazing work!
nice art!
Your video made me use again Scratch :D
This is cool
When I made a scratch game I used the harverd cs50 class, I was challenged to make a game in a week but because scratch is so easy it only took 1 day.
The actual game was just playing "keepy uppy"
So a balloon would spawn at a random place on the x axis at the top of the screen and slowly fall down and you click on it to bounce it up after 30 seconds another balloon will spawn and fall faster,
This then repeats until there was 4 four balloons and after another 30 seconds you win.
It was a simple concept
But it was fun nonetheless.
Just wanna say I'm new to watching the channel and got drawn in by your art style. Been pretty much bingeing all of your game dev stuff and it's been inspiring me to get into it again too!
Aww, thanks so much! I appreciate it.
Absolutely.
This is sick❤
as someone who is working on a large-scale game in scratch I found this to be fun... also yeah the books are no good, but you'd be suprised what you can do. I was actually able to create a simple 2d lighting system, sort of like amongus where the light is darker around corners.
You can do even better than just 2d lightning system
I got to watch this at school ❤
I use scratch for ideas, I'm glad you were able to use it to make an awesome game!
Thanks! :D
Phantom Bowtie!
@@adl6601 heyy how are ya?
@@ThePhantomBowtie good, I’m StormFather1 by the way
@@adl6601 I know :)
Totally agree with the first part xD
I was in school and i showed this too my friend and now I’m seeing this lol XD
I started programming with scratch!
Edit: And I used the same book you got
That's awesome!
Nice! I'm checking it out.
wow great work. I just want to ask how to make the score only visible the orange box... yk. Thanks for the tutorial btw
I've been learning java lately and it would be really cool if I could see what you can do with it
You can make a lot of interesting things using scratch, for example 3d Minecraft, cloud multiplayer games, scrolling games like terraria and more
OH MY GOD! this brings back so many memories! like 6 to 8 years ago we used that in elementary school
Just a quick question, what software did he use when designing the graphics
ayy cool new video! Love the graphics of the game. :)
Thanks!
The way to add custom fonts is long but the end result is amazing.
1. Make a costume with text (make sure it’s in vector mode)
2. Export said costume to your computer, it will save as a SVG (a vector format)
3. Open the SVG with notepad
4. Replace all of the current font of said SVG to another font in your PC (example: I typed text in San Serif, I want to make it into Poppins)
5. Boom, done
Thwt looks very good
Wow! This is amazing! I love the artwork and the game mechanics! What app did you use to make the artwork?
Thanks so much! I used Affinity Designer
Honestly, a great game. Scratch usually can't handle high graphical games, and whenever I work with it (Using Vector art), It doesn't come out high definition. Great job!
I remember using Scratch in school when I was younger. The nostalgia...
its quite rare to see game devs that dont use scratch try scratch out, especially with a challenge. nice game btw :)
THE ART GOD DAMN
ahh.. another day, another youtube video that makes me want to pursue joy and spend hours committing to creating something
What do you use to make the vector art??? It looks amazing and want to try it out!
hi I am a scratcher! and it is cool that you choose to make a game in scratch!
i played it!! its rlly good!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I played it and its so fun!!!
