I've noticed there's a surge of Scratch content on RUclips lately, and I'm all in for it. Scratch is an underrated but good programming language/game engine, I don't really use anything else for animation or games. The website certainly could be better, but as a program, it's probably the best thing we ever could get our hands on.
I recently managed to make an actual 2D collision engine after almost *8 years* of Scratch. At that time, I had a tiny PC that would take 10 minutes to fully boot up. I had downloaded Scratch 2 desktop and made animations and games with it. And then, I discovered Scratch 3 and its community. I think it's amazing how far I've come (even though it's just a collision engine :D).
You're a lot younger than I am, but honestly, your journey is super inspiring! I've been a hobby dev for about 5 years and I just started a YT channel too! Only difference is, I was much older and didn't show any of my games to anyone. Just wanna say that it seems like you're on the right track, and to keep doing what you're doing. Subbed and can't wait for more!
This is awesome! I also started programming on Scratch about 7 years ago, but I've since learned basically every mainstream programming language except C and C++ :D
I have been on Scratch for 5 years now, and I totally agree with you. Until roughly a year ago, I had a very high and annoying voice, which, in my opinion, made my already cringey games and animations even worse. But, for some reason, one of them is still one of my most viewed projects of all time (around 90 views). Looking back at my beginnings, I have learned a lot, and I have no fear of custom blocks! :D
I don't know why but scratch has been a comfort website of mine for many many years, yet i've never become better nor have I ever completed a project I was proud of. I often go back with some game idea and try my hardest at it for a couple of days (maybe even a few weeks) but eventually I reach a road block and just stress myself out. I've played your games before and they inspire me to make something too, no matter how bad... but man that mental block is brutal and I just cant push myself to be better. Anyways, the video just made me think of this and I just wanted to type it out for no particular reason. I'm working on a small point and click game now, and hopefully I actually reach a state of "finish" with this one.
oh man, i’m only 21, but you saying you were 10 in 2017 makes me fee ancient. I remember picking up scratch when I was 9 or 10, before the editor was browser based and it was a desktop app. super super neat knowing kids my junior also carried the torch of starting game dev with scratch!
I loved Scratch! My peak Scratch years were 2014-2018. I first heard about it in 3rd grade in Muse magazine, I think. I remember waking up early every morning in the summer because I couldn’t wait to get on my Dad’s laptop and work on my games :-). I am now studying Computer Science and Engineering at Ohio State and I fully accredit that decision to Scratch. My favorite games I made were Epic Stray Cat World the Game and Bread Platformer. I also did a lot of MAPs and animation projects. It’s good to know Scratch is still thriving since I left :-D.
I've been debating making games on scratch. I've been doing game dev with other engines for a while so its not that i need the simplicity but more that i think it'd be cool to make for a community of people. Most of my games haven't been played outside of game jams they were made for, it could be a nice change of pace. The restrictions also sound like a fun challenge.
you are really good at coding i dont know whether you are a kid or an adult but you are really brilliant you really deserves this after 6 years ......i just want to be like you one day
Hello just want to say a big fan. I have been doing programming for about 2 years now, and I have enjoyed it a lot. After learning Python I thought my career would definitely be as a programmer or an indie game developer, I always tried everything and I really had fun doing them. over the 2 years, I have tried more than many software both in programming and designing. Finally, I thought this was the way I chose as my career path. But recently I have lost my passion for programming, I don't know what to do, or when to do it. It's like I have lost the interest I had, I don't know why. It is leading me to give up programming for good. After watching so many videos like this and getting the message to "NOT GIVE UP", I'm still at a standstill. Not knowing what to do 😔
You are giving me a reason to share my first project!!! Im 12, i use scratch for an year and i just finished a game where a sprite finds in a map with platforms chases you jumping, going down trying to kill you. Thanks to You, i want to share it! But first, i need to fix some things: a can tele porta from down to up if im touching a platform and i need to fix the starter bottons bc THEY ARE TERRIBLE. good job!
I started using Construct 2 in 2015 and it was a fun experience. I am sad because I lost the pen drive that contained all my projects 😮 But in 2018, I rediscovered game development by learning how to use Unity engine. I began my channel in 2022 and I am shocked when I saw how my channel started to grow 😊
I loved creating games on scrath because when I was 6 years I. Technology class my teacher told us we where using scratch today and I been obsessed with it
so you’re telling me you’re the person that made mellow me and my friends at school play mellow all the time but scratches blocks from my website so we can’t play anymore
In one of my scratch games, which was like a zombie shooter at some point, you played the same music I put in there which just made me jump and I’m like whoa😂😂😂😂😂😂
I remember, when I was 8 years old, me and my class was reading a story about a 9 year old game dev. So I decided when I was 9 (I'm 10 now), I should make a game. But I used Unity so now I use Godot since I need to pay, (I'm not that old to have a paypal)
The music in 1:40 gave me a heart attack. I know its just stock copyright free music but...I've heard this music being used in a certain Uh....Christian game. (You know what i mean) Btw loved the video. I used to do some scrach games back some years ago. Might give a try again.

(Yes, Hypercard is ancient. Yes, I'm old. Stuff it. :P ) ... My point is, LittleM0nk did JUST fine. They got a little bombarded... but I think they came out okay. :3 But, yeah, make stuff. Also, take breaks. But also make stuff. ;3
