Well, I think that peril’s personality is less of a misogynistic stereotype and more of a situation where she literally never had to think for herself, so after scarlet isn’t around, she just chose clay to be her decision maker because she can’t really do that herself
I completely get it in a psychological sense because there are people who have been raised in toxic environments and by people who used them to have only one purpose or something, not think for themselves, and once they’re gone, the person still has issues with relying on other people’s opinion.
Too add on to this she may have also realized with being codependent of clay that clay is her most likly one and only chance at love, at a "normal" life and like scarlet forces other dragons in to her visions of the world (partys and death battles) peril may think she can force clay in to her world, at the time side by side at the skywing arena and latter on togeather at jade mountain
I think Peril detaches herself with almost anyone around her because she understandably believes that she could never actually be friends with anyone because, right from the start, her powers would never allow that. So when Clay(someone who could be able to be around her and touch her without dying) came around, she had an instant obsessive connection with him because he was the only one that she thought could truly love her
at the start of the series, Peril is a weapon, forged by scarlet to be absolutely loyal. Clay unintentionally stole Peril from Scarlet by showing her basic human(dragon?) decency, but she never truly stopped being a weapon, she just had a new, much more ethical wielder. In book 8 she realized that she is more than just her firescales.
Ok Peril is definitely less restrained about killing, but she certainly feels bad about it considering the nightmares she has about the corpses of her victims. Not to mention she refuses to help Scarlet keep Cliff hostage against Ruby even while being under the brainwash spell and completely having no memories of Clay.
Personally, I think peril has tendencies to do this because she is starved of attention and drowning in hate for most her life, so when she finally gets attention she is so loyal to that dragon because they "care for her" in her head, even if that's not always the case.
@@NerdAlert42 absolutely true, i mean, clay is the only dragon to give peril the attention she needed in her life. with that being said, clay is clueless, and peril is scared of losing him via loss of trust and all that fun stuff. clay is peril's emotional hold, without him, she would have eventually fallen apart, maybe even committed suicide. (prolly not but, phycological issues can go a long way.)
I always thought it was easy to tell why peril was obsessed with clay. he is the ONLY person who peril could get close to, physically and mentally. she was manipulated from a very young age, and that caused her to NEED the approval of those she could get close to. Clay was the only person who respected her after osprey died, the only person who truely cared for her at any time. i think you said that in your video but i just wanted to toss down my thoughts beforehand
I agree, she seems to have really bad abandonment issues because of her life in the arena, always scared that the few dragons who care about her will leave her. It's why she gets so jealous of clay's friends.
Clay is literally the only dragon Peril can TOUCH without killing them and imagine how touch-starved she it after like 8 years of not being able to touch anyone or anything (besides literal stone) without burning them to a crisp. Clay is also the first one to tell her that she doesn’t have to be a monster. He is also the first one to be her real friend. He doesn’t fear her like every other dragon does and the first one to give her chance to be a different dragon. She also believes that he was meant to be a monster but he’s clearly not so he’s also a rolemodel to her sort of.
I mean she can touch darkstalker other fire scales red egg mud wings (flamesilks? They are immune to flamesilk so maybe some other fire they’re also immune to?) maybe turtle because his scales are like hard as diamond
Peril is one of my favorite dragons in from the 1st and 2nd arc. And like how another Wings of Fire RUclipsr said has made me think about her and Clay. I will not stop liking Peril and most of her personality is because of Scarlet. If Peril didn't have fire scales or after Ruby became Queen and understood about her and made her gave her a chance she could have changed for the better. Good video and helping me like Peril as a character.
What’s funny is that some are talking about how misogynistic it is for Peril to not be able to think for herself, but with someone who dealt with issues like how Peril did, I’m more convinced that it’s more of a psychological thing that involved characters who happened to be female. People have dealt with abuse that led to them relying on other people’s opinions.
I think secretly, Peril is just emotionally starved. We can see she basically saw Scarlet as a mother figure, since she believed her own mother tried to kill her. But Scarlet always saw her as a tool, and didn’t talk to Peril unless she wanted too. Peril’s only friend who would talk to her was Osprey, but Peril really didn’t anyone close to her age. But when she attempted to branch by talking to Clay out of curiosity, he reached out to her and tried to connect with her. Peril never had someone really do that for her before. She was so desperate for a true friend that she latched onto Clay. And since she has zero experience with friends, she didn’t know how to process her feelings in a way that wasn’t obsessive.
Its kind of interesting that despite being both protagonists sky and peril have a completely opposite stance on killing. Peril will kill when she feels she needs to. Were as sky has an aversion to killing anything even animals.
I think clay just doesn't understand quite what romance is just yet. We see in book one that he doesn't have any idea why peril is acting towards the female DoD (mostly sunny and glory) the way she is - tsunami (or maybe someone else i think it was tsu tho) has to TELL him that she's jealous and even then he doesn't get it. But we also see he does like her - true, maybe their relationship is best left at friendship - but honestly I can't get over how cute their ship would be if clay could understand and get the ball rolling so to speak. (come to think of it it would prolly be peril making the first move)
I don’t think that her being bad at thinking for herself isn’ because of misogyny or something but it’s just that scarlet told her what to do and think so she just doesn’t know how to think for herself
Since I know that a lot of people who read WoF also read Warriors, I’m going to make a connection Peril liking Clay is kind of like Rootspring liking Bristlefrost because they both liked a dragon (or a cat) that showed them basic kindness because they’re so socially deprived
Ive always thought it was pretty obvious after a life of constant isolation and manipulation someone showed up who saw her as an actual living being with emotion clay become her one source of love no matter how little or much it may have been that one candle in the dark if you will so she immediately began to want to stick with protect and try to grow that relationship despite how lopsided or even a little manipulative her methods may have been
As someone whose been in a abusive relationship, I don’t think it’s misogynistic, and more about the control. She wants someone to make all the hard decisions for her, as she sees herself as a monster with no morals. But in her own story we do see some of her own morals and her learning the ropes.
Yeah, this video made me realize Peril’s name was pronounced Peril. My mind always just autocorrected her name to be Pearl when I was reading the books

I was also born into a Christian family, I can also confirm that is a common belief - as opposed to being mad at you for sinning. I don't really find it annoying but everyone has their own pet peeves.
I like how Clay wasn't actually trying to kill the dragonets in the egg, purely in the Peril context because Peril never killed Sky, neither were born killers. Both were told they were, the difference between Clay and Peril is that Peril accepted it while Clay took his fate into his own hands
This is a great video, and it explained a lot to me about my favorite character, but for some reason it got on my nerves that you kept saying her name weirdly. otherwise, amazing content and great video!
I think it’s a tad bit not telling the whole story with Peril if you just say that it’s a misogynistic thing, I think that’d be the case if her story was a lil different, but it definitely makes sense in her case seeing that it’s the first dragon that showed her kindness and any kind of reaction that didn’t involve fear It’s the fact that this isn’t a gendered thing, recalling the books (I didn’t read in a while bc I hid them,, So do correct me if otherwise.) The first thing that got her to talk to Clay wasn’t that he’s a guy, but rather that MudWings were so rare to see in the arena, due to Scarlet’s alliance in the war. She’s my favorite character because that attachment did seem reasonable, especially considering the story at hand, and the fact that almost all other dragons would flee from her until she met Turtle, and didn’t make true connections until then… Also that she also disliked Moon and I absolutely relished it bc I didn’t particularly like Moon either. Ya’ll can’t stop me, I dislike her and her arc being so teeny in comparison to everyone else..
Tw warning: Ab*se As a victim of abuse, I can completely understand how Peril feels. After I was pulled away from the abuse, I chose to be homeschooled. I was closer to the people I love and felt safe around while recovering. Still recovering to this day. Peril was abused in the exact same way. Instead of having 3 abusers, she only had 1. So the first instinct is to turn to someone who showed you real sympathy, in this case it was Clay. The reason she rejected Kestrel because of Scarlet’s lies still being present in her mind. She couldn’t trust Kestrel because she didn’t know her as well as Clay. Peril chose to go on her own path until it crosses Clay’s sometime in the future.
I always thought she was obssessive about him because he's the only person who can touch her, and she's starved for positive relationships because she has a genetic condition that makes her an unholy terror to everyone who isn't Clay. OF COURSE she would crave his companionship. She can't go through life completely alone - no one can - and Clay is really the first good option she's ever had.
After reading ONLY THE TITLE, here is my answer: Peril could literally never touch anyone without killing them prior to meeting Clay. She was isolated in an abusive household under Queen Scarlet, and Clay was the first dragon she met that would give her the time of day. Of course Peril immediately attached to Clay, he was literally her only option. No other dragons could be around her without being in danger, and most other dragons found her to be a terrifying monster.
Osprays death had me crying becuse of perils reaction, she could of saved him if she didnt have firescales, she manged to catch up to him but couldnt catch him without killing him. it broke my heart so bad :( Peril is my favourite charter, i had A.D.D and Asbergase, and as i grew up i had no friends, everyone saw me as a freak and a monster, moreso when i bit someone becuse they would leave me alone and idk what else to do (i mean come on i was in primary school in grade 3 ffs) and i didnt understand why the teacher was telling me off insted of the bully. I never knew how to react or be a good friend, still dont. I relate to peril so much becuse of this, and Snowfall as well due to her parinoya.
10:33 as Christian I am not offend. I'd like to assume Jesus does get sad when you sin but like Clay, he won't abandon you because you made a mistake. He wants you to be with him forever in heaven. If anyone has questions about my faith, I'll gladly answer them but please be respectful. Also keep in mind that I am not a Theologist nor have I had any training, outside my own experices. Also, I'm dyslexic so please ignore any grammar or spelling mistakes.
peril is my favourite character so whenever I mention that my friend goes sicko mode, my god. His favourite character is turtle so my argument was: he could be easily replaced with one of his brothers, his animas enchantments are useless, he is a wet rag that simps for kinkajou. Umm that’s just my opinion. Why I like peril: she’s a fire scales and there’s not that much, she broke free from her captors (chameleon and scarlet), she saves scarlet because she “loved” her, she just wants to be loved, she feels empathy for some of the dragons she hurt or killed, when kestrel died she was devastated because kestrel was on of the three dragons who loved her (actually two because scarlet just uses her). Over all I love peril my fire dragon 🔥🔥🔥🐲🐉
The ones he did to hide himself and kinkajou from Darkstalker ended up being rather useful, and those he thought of by himself, so was the note clamshell thing.
this analysis makes sense but I thought peril liked clay because he was one of the only people who were voluntarily nice to her. and it makes sense because osprey was pretty old, scarlet was a queen, and clay was around her age and male, so...
Everyone:Omg why is so obsessed? Me:it's because he is her childhood best friend and it reminds peril of her parents I always have that feeling when I see her in a book😭
I really don't think it's an obsession. I really think because Clay kinda showed her she didn't have to be a pet to queen scarlet ad that she could choose. That's what I think.
I think Peril likes Clay because Clay is the only dragon who sees the good in her. Also I hate the way Queen Scarlet treats Peril, because Peril is one of my favourite character in wings of fire.[list of favourite dragons]Turtle,Kinkajou, tsunami, moonwacther,Qibli,Clay hailstorm,Glory,Darkstalker apparently,Webs,Starflight,Sunny, and Queen Thorn.
10:29 nah you're fine! some of us Christians have no moral code and use Jesus to make one like Peril uses Clay, it's a good comparison. I like how you have no consistent pronunciation of Peril, you usually say it like {purr-ILL} but once say it like I used to, {PURR-ul}. There's occasional {par-OLL}, too. it's actually just {PEAR-ill}.
Peril doesn't feel remorse but after being told what right is from wrong, she quickly develops morality. She was only being a "good daughter" b4 to scarlet. She thought that was the right thing to do, and morlized the fact that those in the arena committed war crimes. She was a solider. That's why she never fought a mudwing before. She questioned attacking Clay bc he was a dragnet of destiny... and also a ally to her race. After leaving Scarlet she goes out of her way to help and save others, not bc she's empathetic or bc of remorse, but bc she knows now it's the right thing to do. Self pity is not a symptom of a good person, it's a symptom of being self absorbed.
I wanted to ask, though it has *NO* relevance to this video, what art program are you using, and is it free?Thank's! Keep on making awesome art and vids.
i think Peril acts this way because nobody actually liked her, so the first dragon she found that was nice to her, she felt overly attached to, and she can touch Clay without.. uh.. setting his face on fire. so its kind of like pErFeCtIoN edit: whos CHARMELEON?! edit two: i dont think its like a stereotype, i think Peril was just surrounded by hatred and lack of decency, so when someone finally tries to be good to her, she finds it like he should make all of her decisions for her, like Scarlet. Peril was also obsessed with pleasing Scarlet. this is similar, except instead of it ending in violence and death, it ended in "hello there, i love you." "oh well so do i." she is used to dragons making her decisions, and dragons having to either be pleased with her or disturbed by her. to Peril, its one or the other.
Both are slightly obsessive, and worry how that dragon thinks of them. They both were different from hatching and the first person that was new in their life and accepted who they are is who they are obsessed with
I don’t think it’s misogynistic, she was abused mentally and manipulated, clay being the one good dragon she knows, and with her being raised to listen to what one dragon wants, it’s very easy to she why this is how she is, she’s continuing her abuse by following him (just without the manipulation as he’s a good person)
is this how you pronounce her name? ive always been pronouncing it as in the word peril, because i thought it made sense that her name would be peril considering shes pretty dangerous. but maybe ive been pronouncing her name wrong the entire time, and its just spelled the same as peril lmao
I don't know.... I feel like you're being a bit unfair to this character. I understand that she's killed a lot of dragons with her power, but it wasn't exactly her choice. She was raised by her mother, the cruel and bloodthirsty Queen Scarlet, to kill dragons in her arena ever since she was young. It's safe to say that the act of doing so had been normalized for her, so of course she would have a hard time feeling remorse. There are a lot of things that would have effected her on a psychological level, and she can only take so much blame for doing something she was raised into. Plus, if people have a problem with Peril killing innocent dragons in an arena, then they should be taking umbridge with the old Skywing culture that encouraged the sort of bloodshed she was manipulated into doing. That's the true culprit here. Her obsession with Clay could most likely be due to the fact that he was the only dragon she could have a positive relationship with. Her firescales, as well as Queen Scarlet's lies, deprived her of social interaction, making her desperate to have a healthy, unconditional relationship with someone who didn't fear or despise her. This isn't to say Peril shouldn't have consequences for killing innocent dragons, nor that she's exempt from having to feel remorse. I just think we should be paying more attention to the intentional nuances of her situation instead of accusing her of being an unforgivable monster. Also in case this is mentioned, Tui calling Peril "a little psychopath" is kinda gross, even if she's the one to write the character. I feel a statement like this shows a grave misunderstanding of Peril's trauma and almost undoes the growth she had gone through in understanding the weight of her crimes, even if it wasn't intended maliciously.
Yeah, this is what I thought.
I also like to think about how Peril remembered that she didn't kill dragons despite not remembering Clay
Clay even said (I think it was im escaping peril) that he won't be her next Scarlet

Peril is my favourite charter, i had A.D.D and Asbergase, and as i grew up i had no friends, everyone saw me as a freak and a monster, moreso when i bit someone becuse they would leave me alone and idk what else to do (i mean come on i was in primary school in grade 3 ffs) and i didnt understand why the teacher was telling me off insted of the bully. I never knew how to react or be a good friend, still dont. I relate to peril so much becuse of this, and Snowfall as well due to her parinoya.
I always wondered why i felt like i needed to be friends with peril.
Perils attachment to clay is basicly the only scorce of touch she has, anything she touches burns.
4rcane : per-Ill
Me : peril
this analysis makes sense but I thought peril liked clay because he was one of the only people who were voluntarily nice to her. and it makes sense because osprey was pretty old, scarlet was a queen, and clay was around her age and male, so...
Because she likes him.
*end of story*
The simple yet logical conclusion
9:32 CHARMELEON? 🐉🔥
Charmeleon... That's a Pokemon!!!
9:31 lmao dont you mean chameleon, not charmeleon like the pokemon?
That threw me for a loop too
Whoops, why is it a website now?
What art brush s and art software do you use?
Warriors and wof content?!?! Well....y’know that subscribe button looks nicer then usual today aswell
Oooooo :0
The one wings of fire thing I understand cause I only read 3 books.
For a while I thoughr peril's name was pearl
THE BLACK ROCKS ARE COAL
Edit: sky is still alive, (aka perill’s brother)
Peril was actually 1 and a half years old
I wanted to ask, though it has *NO* relevance to this video, what art program are you using, and is it free?Thank's! Keep on making awesome art and vids.
I use Clip Studio Paint. It is not free however CSP goes on sale very often.
scarlet said she'd train cliff to be a killer not clay.
Kinda weird how you and Dogloverlikesdoge uploaded about cleril... hmmm..
Yes😂hmmmm…
This video is the better one though.
Me luv veeds
i misread one of the brushes.. mm yes, w e t w e e d b l e n d e r
what draw app do u use
It’s funny to me that sometimes you pronounce peril’s name pear-illl
i think Peril acts this way because nobody actually liked her, so the first dragon she found that was nice to her, she felt overly attached to, and she can touch Clay without.. uh.. setting his face on fire. so its kind of like pErFeCtIoN
edit: whos CHARMELEON?!
edit two: i dont think its like a stereotype, i think Peril was just surrounded by hatred and lack of decency, so when someone finally tries to be good to her, she finds it like he should make all of her decisions for her, like Scarlet.
I'm still shipping it 🔥❤️🤎
Whta do you use for drawing?
I use a wacom intous pro medium as my tablet

Does anyone else think Peril and Cricket are oddly similar
How they can be similar? Criquet and starflight yes, a lil bit, but peril and cricket?
@@magaladragonne1099 I dont know they just feel oddly simmilar, I cant explain it
Both are slightly obsessive, and worry how that dragon thinks of them. They both were different from hatching and the first person that was new in their life and accepted who they are is who they are obsessed with
I dont wanna offend anyone but 4rcane and Cyprus's art styles are similar and pretty
I used the Google pronunciation because people keep on telling me I’m the comments I pronounce a lot of things wrong XD
@@5rcane oh ok
I think peril is “obsessive” because clay is oblivious. I don’t really like him for that.
Peril is a fun charecter, but she needs therapy.
for sure, she's probably one of the characters that need it the most
@@lakefeatherss you can't forget sora, she literally tried too kill icicle
It’s because clay is the only one she can touch bruh
Honestly, I've never liked Peril all that much. The obsession with Clay is just... aghh.
This is a literal read aloud 😂
(Not hate)
