Thanks so much! Cleaning the igniter worked! Had rust inside of igniter shroud preventing a good spark. Wire brush and fine sandpaper cleaned it right up! Fire!
Excellent 😊😊😊
Followed your instructions step-by-step. My oven is now working. Wife is very happy.Thank you sir!
Fantastic!😊
I'm an old woman and this solved my problem!!! Thank you so much it truly saved me a bunch of money and i feel very proud to know i did it!! Lot of repair people think we are easy marks, but this time it only cost me the price of some wire brushes and about an hour of my time and not even the price of the switch which wouldve run anywhere between $25-35. Thanks
Nice job Lori,
That’s what I love to hear😊😊😊
I had the time to give this a try today and it worked like a charm! Fires right up now. My igniter wasn’t tightened all the way creating a large gap between the electrode and the burner. I cleaned it, bent the point slightly and tightened it back up and works great now. You turned what was going to be a headache for me into an easy repair. Thanks again!
You helped save our Thanksgiving this year.
The oven wouldn't light Tuesday morning but after following your video, it fired up like a dream.
Thank you from me and all my family that still get to eat turkey and ham.
Nicely done😊😊😊
Thank you for filming and posting! We fixed it ourselves, and I understand my oven more now. 👍
Thanks Rhonda❤️👍😊
Worked like a charm man. Thank you!
Went to cook a meatloaf last night and right as I put it in the oven the ignition failed. Went to Google, came across your video and now my oven seems to be working! Thank you
Following this solved my problem with my oven not lighting. Thank you!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback😊
It worked for me!!!!!! I am so happy that it was this easy! Thank you so much for posting this video!
I just wanted to let you know this was the exact video we needed to fix our oven that suddenly stopped working! Really appreciate the fast and no frills video walkthrough of how to access and clean the igniter. Immediately solved our problem.
That is Awesome News😊
Thanks so much for this video! I was able to light the oven and bake cookies :)
Excellent 😊😊😊😊
Thank you! Your video helped me find the disconnected wire and get my oven working again!
Glad I could help😊
I really appreciate your help. Your videos are awesome! You are the Man!!!
Thanks so much Stephen😊👍
Thanks! You helped me keep my 12 year old whirlpool oven alive.
Thanks so much Jeremiah😊😊😊
Dude, thank you so much, was able to save a ton of money with this video !!🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Awesome, thank you😊
Appreciate all the info brother!!! Great vids
Thanks so much Jerry😊
This did the trick. Thanks for making this video!
Had similar issue. Didn't even remove the burner assembly from the oven. Just took a small piece of fine wet/dry sandpaper and burnished the ignitor electrode and now it's working fine again.
Thanks! I just canceled an appliance repair appt thay would have cost me a minimum $100, just to show up. The strike was just rusted. I fixed it in less than 10 minutes! 😊😊
Wow,
Great job Kay👍😊
Followed your tutorial and problem solved. Much thanks!
Glad it helped!😊
Awesome video, very helpful and love the step by step voice over. Unfortunately I followed all the cleaning steps and I'm still having the same problem. I ordered the igniter and I'm hoping that's the issue.
This oven has a problem of the burner tube not having a strong metal to metal connection to the frame which causes the problem of it nit being able to light. Can you tighten the 2 screws that hold it to the frame to see if that helps?
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance I'll give that a try tonight. I noticed as I was troubleshooting that it seems like the broiler does the same thing, where it will ignite and then immediately go out. I'm hoping this does not end up being the control module in the back. Or maybe I am, and I just get to buy a new oven.
Thanks so much for this video. Helped a lot!
You’re very welcome😊
I was just quoted $500 to get this problem fixed. I told him no and looked at this video. This solved my problem. Thank you so much!
Awesome Brandon,
How did you fix it?
I followed all the steps in the video. I didn’t have a small wire brush on hand, but I did have a grill brush so I used that instead. After rubbing off the oxidation and reinstalling everything, I tested it and wahlahhh it worked within 1 second. You’re a life saver! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Worked perfect for me! Now i can make that cake my pregnant wife has been craving!

Well done buddy, very knowledgeable & thorough!
Much appreciated!😊😊
Yup, mines working now. Ty sir
Excellent 😊
One cause of this problem is due to the loss of the electrical ground connection from the oven frame to the igniter. The screw holes securing the burner assembly to the frame develop rust over time and inhibit the spark. I ran a dedicated ground wire from the igniter circuit board (upper right corner of the oven - looking from the back) down to the igniter. I stripped off about 8 inched of insulation from five feet of 20-gauge wire, loosened the two small bolts holding down the igniter, inserted a half-inch of the bare ground wire behind the igniter, and re-tightened the bolts. I clamped a female tab connector to the other end, snaked the wire down through the bottom burner hole and out the back of the oven, and plugged it onto the unused ground tab at the center bottom of the igniter circuit board. And viola! The oven now works perfectly.
Wow,
Excellent FIX Kerry.
That’s exactly why they stop sparking 👍
Thanks. This Info help lead me to a faulty relay
Very cool 😎
Nailed it, thanks. Worked for me.
Glad it helped😊😊
Also another thing I've come across working on ovens when the bake function doesn't work. Check the bottom tray for any pots, pans, or baking sheets that are metal and they will sometimes touch the spark igniter causing the spark to ground out to the baking sheet or pot. I like putting electrical tape around the connection you can access it from the bottom storage. Good luck.
Good idea 😊👍
OMG. that might be my problem. i'm trying this tomorrow.
This is what fixed mine. Thanks for the tip!!!
You are wonderful...just got my oven...was loving it so much...would not fully heat on just second day...finally took out the pans...voila!😂
Duuuuude. You're a genius. That was my issue. Saved me a hundred bucks no doubt.
I found the problem with mine. The spark module board had a couple cracked solder joints on the output side of two of the four large green things that I assume are a high voltage transformer. Remelted those and added a bit of extra solder to strengthen it and prevent future failure.
Your video saved Thanksgiving!! Thank you!!
Glad I could help!😊🦃
Good job and you have the good brand tools 😄
Thanks Omar, Milwaukee is great👍👍👍
Thank you! You helped save dinner!
Glad I could help!👍😊
Managed to clean the ignitor sufficiently without removing anything but the bottom of the oven and the deflector over the burner. So far...my oven lights again! I heard 'clicks' and smelled gas...just no ignition. Thanks!
Nice job😊😊😊
Thanks!
Welcome!😊👍
Thanks. That worked!
You’re welcome 👍
Thank u
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. My oven had this problem and I followed your instructions and was able to fix it simply by sanding the corrosion off the ignitor. I really appreciate this.
Nice job Tom😊
Saved our oven!!!!!!
Thanks Doug😊
I can’t find a link for the circuit board spark module you spoke about. Were you able to source one?
You're the man
Thanks Chester👍
Looking to replace my igniter. What safety precautions must I do as we are working with gas? Thanks for the video!
Hi Keith,
It’s just important to make sure it’s unplugged.
The first practical diagnostic I have found, after a dozen that just immediately replace the spark module. Thanks. Hope it works. I have intermittent bake and broil ignition. I tried putting a stove top burner wire on the bake ignitor connection and it sparked. Then tried putting the bake wire on a stove burner ignitor and turning the knob to light. Both worked fine. So I put it back together and it all tested fine. Trying to use it however only lasted 10 minutes... At which point the oven stopped heating because it wouldn't light.
Looking at the ignitor board while it tries to light, I see sparks jumping across components on the board. Pretty long sparks too, maybe 3/4in, so the ignitor gap should be no trouble. The board itself is pretty simple. I would like to see someone post how to repair it as they are quite over priced.
These ovens have a problem with the bake burner tube needing to be grounded better to create a stronger consistent spark. There is a technical bulletin about it and a new kit that they sell.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Funny I thought the same while reassembling it. I ended up wire brushing the pad where the screw fastens it to rough it up a bit. But at high temps it will oxidize over quickly.
Ultimately I think there is a problem is with the spark module not detecting the flame and then shutting off the gas and spark. I would like to just repair the board if you know which components go out. They used some electrolytic capacitors that are a highly likely failure point.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance I’m having the same issue with my oven. Took it apart and cleaned it and it’s intermittent now. Do you have the name or part # of the kit or bulletin? Thank you!!
Hello! Thank you for this excellent video. My oven was clicking but not igniting so we replaced the ignitor. It worked well for about a week but tonight it suddenly stopped working. It's back to clicking but not igniting. Could there be some other issue that is causing it to not ignite or might it be a problem with the installation of the new part?
Thanks Angie,
Can you tighten the screws that join the igniter to the burner tube and tighten the screws that connect the burner tube to the frame?
The tighter those ground connections the better it will light👍
mine is working now too thanks. I used some sand paper on the metal housing thing. one thing that confused me was that i tested the broiler and it worked for a second then turned off. so when i put the tube back on and tested it, it did nothing. thought i broke it even more. when i put it all back together, it is all working again! i guess there is a safety mechanism to prevent it starting while open?

Is it normal for a whirlpool oven a little over a year old to have this issue? Thanks for the video. I’ll be giving this a try!
Yes it is happening too often.
my model is wfg320m0bs3. is my range going to use these same linked parts? i search and get conflicting info.
Hi Scott I have this same whirlpool range. I have a problem that the oven won't ignite along with the broiler. You hear the ignition and you see the spark from both. Do you think it could possibly be the gas valve? Or do I need to check for something else. No error codes show up on the control panel, I've gone through that test mode already. I have also checked the oven door switch. Looking for a little help please.
That model has a problem with a bad ground connection for the burner .
There’s a kit to fix the problem.
I know it's probably just a plane or something in the background while you recorded the voiceover but at 5:15 it sounds like horror movie music building up as you dive your head deeper into a haunted oven
😂😂😂
Hi, just took apart and cleaned everything very well as you instructed. When I turn on the oven, though, the igniter lights up only the part of the burner tube right next to it, then cuts out. The control panel continues to read PreHeat even though the gas has stopped flowing. I have brushed/sprayed the tube and all the little holes in it and it looks clean from the outside. Now what? Thx
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance the broiler is working so it's just the lower tube assembly. Do I need to buy a new part? Thanks

@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Hi, the stove still does not work. I replaced both the igniter assembly and the thermocouple. The Farraday tube now heats the whole length, but only stays on briefly for four or so igniter clicks. There is no error message, it just keeps saying "preheat". I have also replaced the thermocouple. I took off the back panel and checked the wires under and in back of the stove and inspected the panels visually. I tried switching the relays on the spark module-- but then it didn't work at all, no spark or anything. Now what, please?
Does the ceramic tube on the ignitor where you connect it move?
Hi Susan,
It does slide around a little👍
Thanks. I thought it was broke.
Hi, I changed the igniter and still no ignition. The gas does come out and can be lit manually. Is there a way to test the grounding problem or improve the grounding problem by cleaning or sanding or running a wire? Thx!
Can you please contact me at yahoo.com
Scottthefixit guy@yahoo.com
Fighting this with a Whirlpool. It is sparking. And I replaced the ignitor and I swapped the lead on the spark control board. It will still some times not ignite. It clicks on the valve and clicks the igniter. It often happens after the oven has preheated and you open close the door to put food in. It will sometimes fail to light and the oven cools off. I can't consistently reproduce it though. Looking at the parts I'm thinking I can buy a new oven for $600 and the parts cannon will rapidly hit what the parts cost but I hate to just junk it and buy a new one, but I need to be able to trust it will work right. There are no error codes. I've replaced the igniter and the temp probe.
Took it apart again l wire brushed all ground contacts, up sized the front screw as it wouldn't bite. It works until the oven runs at 400 for a while, but then fails to light. Ones it cools and you try again it works.
Honestly out of ideas. Does anyone have any ideas?
There’s a burner update kit that fixes the problem.
It comes with a new igniter. I think the link for it is in the video description.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance I cleaned up the old igniter and it's been working for a month now. Pretty sure the replacement i got the ceramic insulator had a hairline crack that when hot was open enough to kill the spark.
So I did all that this video showed and it still will ignite to light the oven and bring it up to temp but when it tries to reignite to bring the temp back up the igniter clicks 9 times and quits. Actually that has always been the problem. I'm learning as I go. Any suggestions? The oven/stove was bought brand new a few years ago and has been in it's original box until last month. It hasn't been used but a few times with me thinking I had no clue how to use it but that's not the problem this time.
Thanks Susan,
This model has a new igniter kit to rectify this problem made by whirlpool .
It gives the igniter a better ground which fixes that problem.
Try searching for oven igniter retrofit kit for your model number.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Thank you so much. I will look that up.
I was able to change out the board and the ignitor and still won't light. Is there something else I should try or look for?
This model has a retrofit kit that comes with a new burner tube and igniter and a better connection that makes the burner tube have a secure ground connection to the frame. That kit fixes the problem.
Is the ignighter supposed to be red hot when after lit? Mine is. And wanted to know if that aas normal .
Totally normal 👍
Does this work for the top part of the stove?
It’s different for the top burners.
Usually just need to thoroughly clean all the metal parts👍
I have a oven that I thought the ignitor was the problem. I brought a new one and replaced it. it still is doing the same thing. It does its clicking like it wants to ignite. it ignites for a second and than turns off. What could be the problem?
Can you try to tighten the screws that hold the burner tube to the frame. A secure connection makes a really good ground fir a strong spark .
I replaced the igniter and now it's working, however the igniter gets engulfed in flames. Is this normal/OK? I assume it can tolerate the heat?
Mine did as well and wondered the same.
Mines stopped clicking and can't fine any plug tho
How do I know if it’s the igniter or the spark model to be replaced? When I push start to heat the oven, I hear the gas and 3-4 clicks. Then I hear again the gas and a few clicks 30 seconds later.
I’d say it’s not the spark module but the burner tube needs to be tightened on to frame tighter to create a better ground connection.
Mine cliks ignites clicks 2or3 more times then shuts off . ? Igniter clicks ( spark) then clicks 2 or three times then shuts off. If I unplug unit and plug back in it will light and stay lit and work fine for a week or so but then goes back to click ignite burn and click click shut off . relay?
These whirlpool ovens with the spark ignition are having a problem with the gas burner tube having a weak ground to the frame and that causes an intermittent problem with the supply of gas.
If the safety valve can’t see a strong spark circuit it won’t open to let the gas come in.
The way to fix it is with a Whirlpool oven igniter retrofit kit that makes the ground connection much stronger.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance ok but the gas does come on . Burner lights then the igniter clicks 3 times while burner is burning then shuts off. It keep trying to relight after that but does same thing repeatedly till I press cancel. Broil burner works fine. ? Thanks I will look at retrofit kit. But bad ground does not make sense at this point sincce gas valve sends gas , igniter lights gas , burner is full and lights then shuts off. If bad ground why would any of that sequence of events be possible? Specifically the gas coming on filling burner tube and igniter , igniter igniting gas burner breifly burning then igniter clicks and all shuts off? How is that a bad ground? Not saying its not. Just saying I don't get it.🤷 I looked up whirlpool oven igniter retrofit kit. All I get is replacement igniter kits. Okay if the igniter is igniting and the gas turns into flame how do I need a new igniter? The igniter doesn't shut itself off and does not turn itself on. It only gets electricity after a signal is sent and then it ignites I don't understand how is that a background and how does what's a retrofit kit got in it that this igniter kit does not have in it how does it retrofit the ground?
Im having the same problem. I put in a new igniter and it still clicks
Can you install this new update kit? ruclips.net/user/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqa2RYX1NVczk5Zk9jazFjQ3JyVFdNUFRZR2JjZ3xBQ3Jtc0tseF9GNVBmYk1sYlhNXzE2RWRpQ3FQeVdfMTlnT0Q3YVcyWUhwVC1xOTY4MGZKWGhJaWctRzgwTFJFc05PbUlFRS0xWE1nS1c5amtaWnljcURtX24xX0hZT1Z0WWRFUjlEZVB0T2dycEtLeGtPSHhaZw&q=https%3A%2F%2Famzn.to%2F3ZLtiEl&v=rT3qPahd0o4
Mine heats up to 200 then stops. Starts clicking again but I don’t hear any gas. Any ideas. It’s only a few months old

@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance I ended up finding a fix. I bought a new oven 🤣. But yeah, I spent some weekends gettins a free washer machine working, and then I keep having to spend time fixing my GE dishwasher that seems to break a few times a year, I decided, lets just pick up an oven, it's the cheapest of all the appliances I think. Oh also it probably has to do with the fact that when I was taking the oven door off, I bent something inside.
I have a whirlpool gas stove that has an electrical panel and the stove will not work but the cook top does work just fine. I bought a brand new igniter and put it on but still does not work. I hear it click but nothing happens in the oven for bake or broil. How can it troubleshoot the problem
Hi Sharon,
If you remove the bottom panel, are you able to see sparks from the igniter?
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance no sparks and it does not glow
There is power from panel to the silver box that the gas line hooks to but not sure if it is bad or not. Is there a way to check it.
My igniter lights the first time. Then when it tries to relight to keep the oven temp up it the igniter sparks but won't light the burner. But when I open the oven door as it's sparking the back flow of air from opening the door makes it light. I have had a repairman here 4 times. He replaced the board and igniter but won't listen to me when I tell him what it really is doing.
Thanks Susan,
I wonder if leaving your broiler drawer open a little will let in enough oxygen to help it light later in the cycle?

Oven wasn’t starting then changed igniter now it starts but only get about 3 inches of flame on the burner. Bad gas valve?
3 inches is good.
Does it heat up ok?
Would not heat up. Most of burner didn’t have flame. Update.. took out gas nozzle blow out gas to be sure wasn’t blocked and then put a cleaning rod in nozzle to open it up little more. It now works fine. It just wasn’t getting enough gas to light the whole burner
Igniter clicks but not in rapid pattern and does not light oven every time, then if it does light, does not stay on.

The new burner fixes the problem 😊
I hired someone to come in and fix the oven. I had already purchased an new ignitor. He changed it out and it didn't help. The old one was sparking but the gas does not come out. He ordered and replaced the regulator on the bottom. He said it cost $250 for the part. It still didn't fix the problem. Thanks for the reply. But the broiler isn't getting gas either and it has not been used. So I doubt that both are bad. The stove top is working fine.
@@rickyweight1mine is having the exact same issue. Broil and bake don’t work. No gas smell. Igniters appear to be okay.
