- Welcome to my new Lets Play of Banished, Mega Mod 9 addition!
Banished a city-building strategy game. It's the game that really started the boom in the colony building genre over the last few years. In it you control a group of exiled travelers who are forced to restart their lives in a new land. They have nothing, just the clothes on their backs and a few supplies. Your mission (if you choose to accept it), is to lead this rag tag group into brighter future....and to keep them alive. Easier said than done.

Love the video. And as I sit here watching you add buildings that 'grow iron', can I recommend: Do a slightly easier start.
The real challenge in this game isn't starting on hard mode. The challenge is in expanding smartly and aesthetically.
My favorite starts are with some seeds and maybe livestock.
And then plan things out from there.
Glad you enjoyed it matt! I personally like having to rely on differnet food sources at different part of the game, thats the only reason i don't start with seeds and livestock. but when I play closer to vanilla I definitely do an easier start!

Just started watching your channel, and I'm playing the same seed, and difficulty levels. I was playing the newly released Patron which is very similar to Banished, but I must say that Banished with Megamod is definitely far better in terms of gameplay, and it has always been one of my all time favorite games that I keep coming back to. Loving your content so far, and look forward to following along with you.

Banished with the mods, including MegaMod or Colonial Charter or RKEC or the North, are examples of what Banished could have been. Without additional code changes to the core, just adding in things that a mod could do (which still take time and effort and artwork etc) could keep this game looking great for years to come after development had been closed.
Considering what The North mod did, I've also thought that fans would happily buy a DLC that changes the Banished motif to a different culture, such as Asian style or Middle Eastern style. Heck, even do Romans or Vikings architecture. Same game play concepts, just a different artwork to the terrain or buildings, which makes the game feel like it has so many base options that would keep players going.
And of course, starting conditions with more supplies, animals, people, or in some cases, 2 people like an Adam and Eve start, shows that even just from the perspective of how to start a game, these kinds of starting conditions could have been part of the base game as well.
In short, the current artwork of Banished in vanilla or from the mods, holds up over time. So people won't turn away from it thinking the graphics are outdated. With the mods, it's definitely a game that stands the test of time.
@@pershop4950 Not sure if you have played Farthest Frontier yet, but I have recently started playing it, and can honestly say that this could well be the spritual successor to Banished. It is like a modern version of Banished, but has vastly improved graphics, and animations, and there is so much more depth to this game. It is still in early access, but is already an amazing game which, I'm sure will just improve over time.

I prefer to use the new docks set of loggers, comes in stone or wood. very effective for space and for people to make it. I don't build any gathering posts, preferring Kid's gardens/greenhouses, you discovered last season. They are fantastically reduced and much more balanced in this mod. And the Renewable resources for stone and iron and coal, is still the best for basic resources. Four 7x7 plots by kid, builds corn oats beans and potatoes, add in the plaza, and yer food is taken care of for good. there is another modder there that makes cheap wells.

I think the problem with the iron tools was that the mods change the production flow of iron. You mine iron ore, which has to be smelted into iron. :)
That was definitely the problem! I was hoping I could overcome it fast enough with the iron farm but no luck!
@@wonderwizard4935 it looked like the iron mine also only produced iron ore, but I could be wrong on this. I remember the Iast time I played with colonial charter mods, my tool production got into huge problems with the change of iron to iron ore lol Took me forever to figure out what on earth was going wrong!
You need the forge to turn iron ore into iron bars and then make the tools
@@fabiola-s thats standard way to do it yah. But the farm I set up grows straight iron. A bit of a cheat lol

It's an oldy but a goody!
Isn't that world name Bountry aka Boun-tRee? Also, as long as you have one house in a small village like this your villagers won't freeze for the first one or two winters. I typically build just one house until everything else is up & running, to help regulate firewood and building resource shortages (they still use the same amount of food but don't have a population boom this way, although usually every family still has a new baby that first year, so it still helps with food)

Try as I might I cannot seem to locate a "megamod 9 tour or review video." You know a video that details the individual parts, the new structures, new gameplay elements. What buildings are cool, or smart, or useful. What buildings are less useful....or "broken," or silly.
I dunno I played vanilla years ago and just started up again because I saw some new similar game on Early Access Steam. Something (I forget) Frontier. Looks cool. Waiting for a sale though. Wanna use this mod....but it seems a bit much...lol.
The Dense Tree Shack, won't allow production for the Gatherer/Hunter/Herbs.

What mods are you using? I am using the same Mega Mod 9 same as you but I don't have as much buildings as you. Not even the rowhouses.
I used to have Mega Mod 8 and it had buildings like yours now but yeah the order was messed up.
Not sure? Maybe they've updated the mod since I last downloaded it?

@@wonderwizard4935 yes i tried mega mode but there are too many buildings soo complicated
Megamod 8 or 9 ... neither work for me. Well 8.1 works sometimes, if I don't have more than a couple other mods. But otherwise as it creates the map (and yes it takes time) it keeps eating more and more and more RAM until it hits my 16gig limit and crashes!

I downloaded it but how do I install it?
Hey Owen! Alright lets do this.
1: Open your banished local folder, then open the Windata folder within. This is the folder that stores all your mods.
2: Open the mega mod 9 file you downloaded using you unzip program. It should have a pdf list of the included mods, and the 6 pkm files. Move the 6 pkm files into your Windata Folder. Boom the mods are in the game.
3: Load up the game. click on the mods option. Enable megamod 9 part 1 through 6 (they may be highlighted in red, that's fine). It's now force you to restart the game. This may take awhile. the mod pack is massive and its pretty hefty for your computer to handle! give it a few minutes and you should be up and running.
I've found that if I click away while the game is loading up it will get stuck on the black screen, so I'd advise to just be patient and wait for the game to load up.
@@wonderwizard4935 Thanks, after waiting two days the thing finally loaded, just kidding, but I did have to go watch cable till it did. The game froze after 15 minutes, so there's that. I have new drivers for my video card and updated some computer files for Kingdoms Reborn. Which by the way loads in about 20 seconds.
@@wonderwizard4935 I've had the original Banish since it came out, I've got over 750 hours in it and it only crashed once. So with this Mod it's crash number 2.

Exactly,I won't even watch episode 2,watching him build those mines when the map is covered in stone and iron was insane,food,tools and firewood are the priorities at the start and he ignored all that 😂
You are really bad at the game 😂 you built all the wrong stuff
