I remember building a version of him out of constructbots when I was young, just because the side changing gimmick was so burned in my brain. Im so glad to have a version of him that’s not just a repaint of an already bad figure, and he’s super high on my priority buy list.
Great review. I have him and you helped me with a couple of tricks. One comment though - you flipped the autobot/decepticon tab down to Decepticon before transforming to bird. By doing this, the arm won't sit flush with the bird torso - that can be seen in the vid . Leave it as an autobot and the arm sits perfectly. Also - silly bonus - but in bird mode you can then flip the tab to reveal an upside down decepticon sign 😂

This figure is not quite as special feeling but it’s darned close and the articulation is a huge improvement. Damn, I’m loving Earthrise. I hope they can keep the fun figures coming!
In the Masterforce anime he's the Decpticon double agent. At first anyway. Also that black and grey piece is either an infrared light or a laser range finder. Though why a Soviet block elevating missile truck would have one of those is the question.
For the shoulder missile to not bump the peg on the back wings in your alternate transformation, you should use the Nonnef "5mm Peg Adapters." They also will allow you to articulate the missile on his shoulder. I use the Nonnef adapters for all my WFC figures shoulder weapons except for ones like Wheeljack and Sideswipe since they have slots fot tabs instead of mm peg wholes.
As a few others have said, I can't wait to see what Nonnef does for Doubledealer. i really am hoping he gives us a Knok and Skar engine pieces colored like them for this guy.
That was a very awesome and in depth review of this figure, thank you so much. I love how both of the micromasters colors match up with Double Dealer so wonderfully. Not necessary to own them, but well worth it if you do.
If you want to mount the tail/blast shield flush with robot mode back, you can put the missile in the 5mm ports on his outer shoulder/top of his arm instead of the inner shoulder. Looks fine, it's only a problem if you don't like the look when you move the arm at the shoulder.
I can't wait to get him he is my second most wanted figure after Sky Lynx wish hopefully I'll get by the end of the week Snapdragon is my third most wanted
17:20 - Dealer's box has Con logos, he's packaged with Autobot logos displayed...but that logo on his instructions is the new "Mercenary" faction. Also, once you pull the tray out, there's a big Merc logo on the insider liner. This is different from Selects Exhaust, who's instructions clearly label him a Merc and he has the Merc logo on his chest. My guess: It's intentional. Dealer is a double agent. He plays both sides against each other for his own means. So he has no Merc symbols on him and can display either in bot mode (he has none visible in bird or truck mode). The only reveal that he's a Merc comes once you open his box and see his instructions. So it's playing in to the lore of the figure. Unlike other Mercenaries, he's not advertising it. I would assume Punch/Counterpunch would be the same way had the Merc faction been official at the time of his most recent release.
Its unfortunate they couldnt have put the peghole for the rocket shoulder on some sort of assembly, so it could be at some sort of angle instead of straight across
Thanks for the review. I have one on the way from amazon. One question I have: are there no Decepticon faction symbols shown in the bird mode? I feel like those flaps near the bird head could fold up to show them, but I haven't seen any reviewer show that.
Be mindful of the mushroom peg on his knees. Mine popped off twice and one side is harder to pop back on. I had to take the leg apart, heat it just so I can pop it back in. I am lucky the figure did not break. i haven't touched him since and he will be in bot mod forever
26:01 - The updated figure uses the new tail piece to help mount the rocket on the bird's back...but it looks like you can still duplicate the G1 figure by removing the tail piece entirely, splitting the rocket in half, clipping the rifle half where it goes now, and then attaching the front portion to the 5mm ports on the underside of the bird. (The green piece you clip the little rifle to) Considering that whole tail piece is almost entirely superfluous, it feels like this figure could have really been released at any point and they just added the tail at the last minute so he could fit in to the Rampmaster play pattern. Which is not a knock on the figure, just an interesting observation. Very similar to how Siege Shockwave and Earthrise Astrotrain both would stand alone as figures without their armor/ramp pieces and fit in any line.
I was gonna pick him up but because of his lackluster size, and more importantly, the fact that I’d have to buy his powermasters separately, at a higher price because of the two other bots for sound wave. I wish they would sell JUST his power masters. Then I’d probably get him
if the blue chest piece can peg in while fliped so the little dudes are faceing out why not do that in vehicle mode so the power master is sitting their being a foe-engine block for the truck

Personally I'll stick with my Thrilling 30s Doubledealer. This looks cheap. Devastator combiner level of cheap but with a little bit more effort. Not much, just a bit.
Doubledealer was out before the machine wars soundwave. The missile launcher isnt the autobot mode, the robot is the autobot, the bird is the decepticon.
No it is not a full leader size. If it were the figure would fill the box. You could probably fit this in a voyager box but they couldn't rip us off. Putting him next to overlord just shows how bullshit this is. One quarter of the box is that stabiliser thing plus all the bits that come with it. Granted it's not as bad as astrotrain or shockwave but you are giving it way too much credit. Bits don't clear properly the leg transformations are annoying. I honestly expected better. The robot is great the truck is fine but I expected better with the bird. The old version is a better bird mode. This is good but small and i feel ripped off
I have to say that overall I am highly disappointed with this figure! Both arms are extremely loose and one of the legs came off during transformation and it was next to impossible to get it back on! The one arm can’t even hold the gun up it just drops! I didn’t transform mine into the other two modes for fear the leg might come off again. I feel that this figure was very cheaply made! Anyone else having issues with this figure?
I recently got this figure, and I have the exact same problem. The right elbow is way too loose to hold the gun, so it just droops. It can still lock, but it doesn't solve the loose elbow, which unfortunately limits the arm pose range. My figure's left elbow is fine though.
I call this group of Cybertronians "Reverse Triple Changers". Punch/Counterpunch, Doubledealer, Apeface, Snapdragon along with Titans Return Leo Convoy/Alpha Trion. Two sentient modes and one alt mode. I ruined Doubledealer with my imagination. I was hoping they would continue with the headmaster gimmick to be more "MasterForce" cartoon accurate. Clouder as a human in the cabin in missile truck mode, be part of the beast bird head in decepticon mode and part of the robot head in autobot mode. But maybe I can use this Doubledealer as a "Victory" and later Doubledealer. Until Hasbro or someone makes a more cartoon style version with a cabin.
I love when the bird mode on a transformer is designed by someone who has never seen a bird. Which is apparently all of them.

Oh. The instructions show to flip those symbols down before bird mode, but it didn’t catch that they should flip back up.
@@peaugh Yeah I ran in to the same thing. Instructions say to flip them but never actually tells you to put them back before turning him in to a bird.

Yes! I need to find some floor polish to fix it. The bicep swivel on the right arm on mine is pretty loose as well.

I wish we got a Netflix repaint of him to get the mercenaries insignia on him to coincide with him being the leader.

They CAN fold out in bird mode to show upside down con symbols.

There's just something about the legs that's bothering me. They seem kind of stumpy for his body relative to how thick they are. Cool colours though!

Yeah, I actually played around with a more G1 mode exactly like that earlier and it worked.

It doesn’t actually peg in while flipped, but you can rotate it and use a Powermaster as an engine if you want.

The legs are an absolute finicky nightmare. And the pegs are lack luster, genuinely shocked by all the praise this toy is getting.
