  • The Center for Human Rights and International Justice Annual Lecture on Human Rights.
We are bombarded in the news with images of Islam being portrayed as a violent and uncompromising religion. Murder, terrorism, and denial of human rights are frequently blamed on Islam. At the same time, such acts are frequently justified as somehow "Islamic" by those that call themselves Muslim. The question posed herein is whether Islam is compatible with the contemporary world and international standards of human rights. International Criminal Court Lead Counsel Karim Khan will argue that Islam advocates the peaceful coexistence of peoples, religions, and society--and guarantees individual and collective rights. The speaker will assert that Islam is not contrary to human rights. Rather, human rights are a central feature of Islam

much of Islam is not compatible with human rights, for example if you blaspheme or leave islam you can be put to death.

Actually it's if you commit treason. If you read the two verses together, and it's not a punishment that's a must be done

Observant Christians, Jews and Muslims have very much in common, in that they share very many values and beliefs.
The people of modern day 'Western' secular democratic Nations have broken away from their religious foundational values, beliefs and traditions, and are therefore much further removed from Christianity than Christianity is to Judaism and Islam.

It is allowed (under strict recommendations) but not encouraged. God basically sais, you can do it if you are absolutely juste between them but you won't be. Some misled muslim men use the example of prophet Mohamed many marriages, to justify them being polygamous. But they omit to remember that, The prophet maried khadija for 20 years alone, after her dead he was crushed and alone so it was suggested to him to marry again and aisha was chosen for him by his his family members and his subsequent marriages years later were political in nature he also married widows for protection... not to fulfill his desire, he was beyond such pursuits. If indeed he was driven by his desire why didn't he married only young and virgins then. He was the head of a large community respected and revered it would ve been an honor to any man at that time 14000 years ago to marry his daughters to the prophet, and be the father in law to the prophet. But he didn't.

It was perhaps one-sided, but there were no lies in that lecture.
To be balanced he would also need to deconstruct the actions/ideas of the violent extremists to explain where their ideas came from and why they are wrong.
But that is a whole other talk.
