This is _exactly_ what i needed to know - better than Braille, tbh. After about 3 weeks I'm finally beginning to swing that back foot forward for more confident pushing. Thanks for this - really good detail!
I am starting to skateboard and i am trying to push like normal but i feel like i'm going to lose my balance so i have to do quicker pushes. Is that normal for beginners or is it just me?
+Sebastian Gagnon Sorry for late response. It's pretty normal. You can move to tick-tack once you get used to little more. It will get much easier after learning tick-tack.
+Angelika Jelly Thks! as I advised to Sebastian, you can move to tick-tack once you get used to pushing little bit more. Tick-tack will make skating much easier.
Its because you are shifting your weight to your pushing foot. Keep your weight balanced over your non pushing foot and let your pushing foot just hang to the side and kick.
wicked comment section help ! just started skating like 2 weeks ago and was having difficulty pushing/staying balanced. I noticed i always stood on the ball of my board foot, and transferred a lot of weight onto my leg pushing. Glad to be working in the right direction now.
I recently started skating for the first time in decades. I was pushing mongo back then, sucked, etc. been watching a lot of videos lately on basics and this is by far the best and most helpful I've seen. Thank a lot!
Best most comprehensive tutorial. I have been looking and none are anywhere near as detailed. It seems like nothing but to a newb all the difference, see how the front foot is slightly turned and not entirely straight, most tutorials don't point that out they say straight on your front foot but it is angled and then should someone do it literally, the balance is less safe.
This is the best tutorial for pushing that I've seen on RUclips thus far. I love how in-depth it is. I just got into skateboarding and I feel like I'm not pushing well enough. The extra body movements + putting your kicking leg out more is a really good tip and I'll try it tomorrow when I skate to class. Btw, is it normal for my kicking foot to hurt after a while?
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO BY FAR! I literally just started skating like 2 days ago and I couldn’t push without falling and dying and I had been watching tutorials on how to push and none of them helped but this actually helped a lot and after watching this i can finally push!!! Thanks guys keep up the good work!
Thanks for the tips. I spent two months pushing and riding my board and still was not comfortable. I was always off balance when putting my back foot on. I was always looking at my feet so now I will try to look straight while pushing and remember where to put my weight.
Thanks for sharing. I just started skateboarding and so many tutorials don't say it should only take a day or two to learn pushing, but it almost feels like it's implied. "The most basic" thing, you know? I'll keep working to get better!
EpicSkittlez let your heel relax more on your board while pushing. I’ve noticed that if your forward foot has a raised heel while you push it will throw you off balance hence the quicker needs to push. Relax your shoulders also and center yourself. Knees slightly bent works for me but to each..I just looked up after typing this and noticed it’s 3 years old but hopefully someone finds it useful..keep skating.
started skating yesterday, today i finally learned how to push off without somebody else’s help and of course i wiped out and sprained my knee gonna be out for like a week 🤦🏻♀️
This tutorial reminds me of ddr when they first teach you how to step on the dance pad thank you for the video ! Just learning how to skate and just got my board today.

Thanks a bunch! Im just starting to skate and thought I might have been pushing incorrectly because I've seen so many people push "mongo." Glad to know I had it right to begin with.
Thanks for your comment. I think it takes little time to get used to reg pushing after switching from mongo. I know what your feeling that mongo is easier now but you are going to be more comfortable when you get used to reg pushing. Shouldn't take that long time to get used to.
+NOLLIE SKATEBOARDING So 6 days ago, I was pushing and I was pushing with the correct part of my foot, but something happened when I was pushing because while riding, at the center of my pushing foot, I feel a sharp pain when I put weight on the ball of my foot, the pain is felt at the arch, and down to the toes, I only feel it when I put weight on the ball of my foot, can it just be sore because I am not use to all the pushing? Thank you!
What's the best way to turn / steer while pushing instead of just going straight forward? I sometimes manage to steer a little and suspect it has to do with how I place my front foot.
I don’t know why i can’t get this right, i keep doing short pushes like a beginner and it wasn’t a problem until I hurt my ankle a week ago, I’m not even sure why, i rested it but the pain in still there and today when I went back into it I was too scared to try an extremely different way of pushing since I don’t want my ankle to get worse :(
im right handed but for some things i use my left side for some things use my right side ...goofy is more comfortable for me..but will it be harder for me to learn tricks ?
idk if it’s only me but i been skateboarding for a couple of days now and my heel and/or ankle is like messed up now, i can’t run and barely walk. idk if im just not used to it or it’s something serious lol
When I push my board tilts to the left involuntarily, I'm trying to push straight but it keeps tilting and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it is just the board.
If your stance is regular and you're pushing with your right foot while your left foot stays on the board, the problem is that your left foot is too far to the left side of the board, causing it to turn by your body weight which is leaning on it.... Sooooo basically get your front foot more centered
if you push the board without standing on it and it turns on its own, you have unevenly tightened truck to the board... you could try loosening the 4 bolts that hold the truck and then tighten 2 bolts diagonally and then finish the remaining bolts tighten both trucks this way

uninja7650 I feel ya, but you should have not quit :( I first started to skate alone and now I found some people who are beginners as well we started skating together. Just gotta find the right people.

Eywua yup
Hahaha.. very-very difficult for my first time.😂

Tell me how I only could push one time if I try to put my foot down to push again I can’t 😭😭😭
This looks like a videogame tutorial

That's what happened to me, it means that you're not pushing properly
@@casey997 writing this reply with a painful ankle🙂 I think I shift my weight to the pushing foot as well. Gotta work on this action

Good stuff! The leaning forward part is what most people leave out of their tutorials.

Kenshi LeNinjah I found this useful, so thanks.
How long does it take to get pushing? I've been skating for 3 days and I can ride now but I can't push at all, like at all
OverRatedProgrammer I’m the same way I have been doing it for 3 day and a can only go down hill

I've been skating for about 5 days now and even though my pushes are getting slightly better, I feel like I still have some improving to do.

I dont have the strength to my leg on the board i only have it to the leg that is pushing:(
Plz Help MeD:
Try to place your front foot which you balance on more on the center of the board not so much on the top, and practice lots.

I have learned tictacs and kick turns, but I still haven’t mastered pushing.
why does my kicking foot hurt ?
I switched over from mongo to reg but when I skate reg my board wobbles and when I skate mongo it just sits in place
+uninja7650 Because you got very use to the mongo, but your comment is a year old so you might be good now.
Virtual Motocross Racing I got use to reg pretty quickly, quit skating though.
uninja7650 Why did you quit?
