    Is it sad to say that when I worked at the hospital I used to keep a bucket with me to take this type of ice home on almost every shift.😔😂This right here is a game changer.

      I work for the hospital, but now I am back office. I loved eating the hospital ice. I was recently sent home in January to work and now I can’t bring it home anymore. I had a cooler that you carry to bring ice home.

      You're not. I used to work at a company that had one of these machines and I got addicted. When I left, went through withdrawal. That was almost ten years ago, and it's still only a rare few places that have this kind of ice, and nobody even sells it. I'm surprised that places that already sell ice haven't figured out this is a thing.

    the ice is easy to crush because its just barely frozen. the fact that putting it in the freezer make it harder to crush is the proof that a colder temperature solidifies the ice more.
    they make small nugget instead of big cubes since its easier to control the temperature of the smaller one. they also keep them in a un-refrigerated bin so the nugget are always at barely frozen temperature.

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  4 года назад +2

      That is correct. If you freeze a batch to make more the frozen nugget ice isn't the same.

    Does the machine keep the ice frozen, or do you have to transfer it to a freezer? Many ice machines don't keep the ice cold, so it melts pretty quickly; but then the water is recycled and made into fresh ice.
    Btw, the "magic technology" of pellet ice is that it is made of ice flakes compressed into the pellet shape, rather than a hard, solid piece like most ice

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  5 лет назад +11

      The machine doesn't keep the ice frozen. It melts in the bin and recycles the water. I must say though that it doesn't melt too fast. We did notice that putting the ice in the freeze causes it to change texture.

    How is y'alls machine holding up? Thinking about investing in one!!!

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  5 лет назад +8

      It's holding up great. We've now had the opal for a couple years and we use it daily. It's always plugged in and has never failed us once. I do wish the bin was a little bit bigger as we (family of 5) tend to go through 2 pounds pretty quick but to refill the water is easy and it makes ice relatively fast. I did notice that if you try to freeze the nugget ice (so you can have lots on hand) the texture changes and the nugget ice is no longer the same. It's not a performance issue but more of a personal quirk… So overall we love it!! It fits really nice on our counter and it's super handy having nugget ice all the time. Especially if you are trying to lose weight (Like I seem to always be doing). I go for a cup and eat some ice to curb my hunger... Works like a champ!

    Does it constantly make ice as the ice melts? Just trying to figure out...do you leave it plugged in all the time and it just cycles or......what? As it is right now, we go to the gas station every night and get 4 cups of nugget ice and we put it in styrofoam cups in the fridge. Keeps well enough until we use it. Thinking about getting one of these machines to save me a trip every night.

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  5 лет назад +1

      You are right. As long as there is water in the basin the machine will produce ice. So as the ice melts it cycles more ice. We leave ours constantly plugged in and just fill the basin with more water as necessary. It's great!!
