thats because its a direct clip from the latest one day build. Not dissing the fact that they took clips from long videos but it could have been nice for them to point it out. I do like this form of cutting clips out of longer videos though.
Editor Note: When Adam pitches a solution please include the items name and company in the show notes. I'm trying to find it now based on a verbal reference which I might not be hearing correctly. Other than that great video!
The exact clear coat product is Alclad II Lacquers Gloss Klear Kote, ALC310. He also briefly mentioned another chrome as being a bit more stable which is "Molotow Liquid Chrome". Personally, I already have bottles of both the Alclad chrome and Klear but wasn't as impressed with the results as he is, so I think I must not have applied it correctly.
Use alclad Aqua gloss clear ALC 600. It is made specifically for alclad’s chrome paint. The paint used in this video is the incorrect clear cote for chrome. The clear cote used in the video is for other alclad paints that are not chrome.
This Alclad clear also makes a great, super-clear barrier coat between your metallic paint and a candy tinted 2k auto clear coat (for doing reflective gold or other color chromes!) the 2k clear is very durable too. Fun party time!
I've been meaning to try that product. I've seen a few people on the internet sware by it and now Adam. Yeah gonna have to try it on my next chrome paint job.
I’ve found using Pledge Floor Finish on my chromed, or any colour for that matter works very well in sealing and creating a very hard shell over the paint without much dulling
I really thought that's what Adam was going to say in this video! Pledge and Future are both clear acrylic finishes that work great on stuff like this. Water-based, easy to apply, and SO cheap!
@@PhotoSlash I've been using Future Floor finish over Molotow chrome pens because I couldn't I find a top coat that wouldn't destroy the shine. The trick is to clear the part and put it in or under something (like gladware) to keep dust off and wait. Wait a couple days, even three days if you can. It hardens and you can handle the part. Sometimes I will dip my parts 4 or more times times if it's a part that will be handled often like on a door or access panel (just a example).
Adam, you are really ageing beautifully, The part with the hair dryer where you were hamming it up, you actually looked distinguished. Incoming Silver Fox
Unlike most model paints which are oil or water based Alclad is a lacquer. It dries quickly. I wonder if regular bowling alley wax would work. It’s used over lacquer in French polishing furniture.
The best chrome I have found is a nail polish where you have to use a UV gel coat it's a bit of a dicky thing to work with but it's finish is like a mirror.
Next step...making it impact resistant. I have an Infinity Orb from the Guardians of the Galaxy which is nothing more than sphere of resin encasing a baseball. I had the maker who did it for me avoid the hollow option because, like Chris Pratt in the movie, I purposefully drop it on a regular basis and the paint AND clear coat chip off and it's back to the resin beneath for that particular impact. I probably shouldn't be doing this but the physics involved are similar to a golf ball so when I drop it, it bounces almost all the way back to my hand. The reactions from people are priceless, too. I think I've repainted it about four times now and am ready for a fifth. Got any tips for a shiny, clear coated impact resistant coating? Cheers and thanks for this video...oooh...what kind of air brush is that?
Can you please link the product? I can't seem to find this specific gloss... the label is silver, and fluid is clear. And the ones I find have a white label and have a milky fluid.

Alcad Klear over the Molotow out of the refill container, he mentioned Alcad chrome but that its a bit finky since you really need the gloss black under it
That info was in the full 55 minute build video. Unfortunately it wasn’t included in the short tip video. covertyankee great info bro , thanks , just one question, can the pledge floor be airbrushed ?
Adam I am a model car builder and I have found a couple different Chrome and nail polishes that are enamel based that came out pretty good for Chrome
Could you share, please? Do you apply them with brush? If so, does it come out smooth?
It looks so cool!
Adam,Have you considered making a miniature paint shaker? Would be useful and make for a great one day build.
Thanks for another great tip
yes. you spend hours for paint and decals on a phaser only to ruin it in 1 second with a clear coat. glad there's a fix now.
Love the "serious" expression Adam gets when he uses the hot air gun *LOL*
I use Alclad aqua gloss. Works like a charm.
Love the Palmgren drill press vice.
Could you do a beginners guide to airbrushing and maybe talk about your setup at some point?
Your the best Adam.
My Alclad Klear Kote just arrived in the mail today. Need to spray the bumpers on my 1:10 scale RC Jeep.
Even if you use a clear coat that doesn't dull the chrome finish , the adhesion of the mirror coat on the substrate is zero so it will peel off.

Nothing will be 100% impact resistant. Your best bet would be 2K clear coats. Thats the stuff used in automotive applications
There is Alclad aqua clear and Alclad Klear coat lacquer !!! Is it so difficult for you to say which one works best ????????
They might attract a much larger group to see the original videos if they keep posting clips like these with specific titles so that’s cool.

Tried it and it doesn't work long term. Lasts longer than it otherwise would but after a few months it dulls just like anything else.
I just scooped up a hunter/killer tank from Pegasus...this is mighty helpful. Does this set and protect a graphite rub, anybody??
