MEPA honours EastMojo’s Princess Rashir for journalistic excellence

    The Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA) honoured Princess Giri Rashir, the Meghalaya correspondent for EastMojo, at a special ceremony held at the Shillong Club on June 19. Rashir, who received the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism on March 19, 2024, was felicitated alongside fellow award-winning journalist Alicia Bakor Phanwar.
    Rashir was presented with a memento and a letter of appreciation by MEPA in recognition of her outstanding contribution to journalism. Her work with EastMojo has highlighted crucial issues in Meghalaya, bringing them to the forefront of national attention.
    In her speech, Rashir expressed her gratitude to MEPA for the honour and emphasised the duty of journalists in Meghalaya to address the state’s concerns with sincerity and dedication. She also stressed the importance of giving voice to local issues and ensuring they receive the national media attention they deserve.
    The felicitation programme was presided over by MEPA treasurer Banda Blah, with addresses by MEPA general secretary John W. Thabah, president R Monarch Shabong, vice president Rajib Choudhury, and advisor Patricia Mukhim. The event celebrated the achievements of both Rashir and Phanwar, with MEPA reiterating its commitment to supporting journalistic excellence in Meghalaya.
    Alicia Bakor Phanwar, who was also felicitated at the event won the ENBA Gold Award for Best News Producer on March 30, 2024.
