"A good boss battle isn't a good boss battle without a bit of frustration" I'd personally say it depends on what exactly causes that frustration of the boss fight. In this case, the boss fight is hard because of how bad jumping feels, not enough height and air time can be taken when doing jumps in this game and it can get easily annoying when in situations like this where platforming takes a huge importance in the game.

The one thing I remember is the boss fights. Each one was unique in its own way. The entire idea of Crunch using the masks was such a cool idea. The last boss was eh, but the others have stuck with me.
i am not really sure that every game was like this but in my experience the game wasnt on dvd. It was on cd (ps2 blue disc). This means that there was less space for the developers to work with. A couple other blue disc games that i got had similar or worse quality in graphics. This explains also the slow load times, and the much faster (and louder) disc spin of the system. The only bad thing i can say about this game is the second boss. As a kid, it was punishingly hard for me, at some point i got so pissed i gave up and stopped playing the game. After quite some time (5 years at least) i got around to it again and actually beat the damn boss. I really enjoyed the rest of the game and it never again felt unfair or harder than it should be. Its cute, its fun and there is a lot to do. in my opinion: crash 3 > wrath of cortex > crash 2

When I got this game, I played it at my aunt's house. It was AMAZING back then. My cousins stopped playing medal of honor to just watch me. You may say it's bad, but this game was aimed at ME and MY FAMILY. 12000/10 game. I remember so many days I played this when I could, and I wish I could go back to the Crash 3/4 era.
If I was to rank my Top 5 of the main series ignoring spinoffs. It would be this. 1. Crash 3 2. Crash 1 3. Crash 2 4. Crash 5 (Twinsanity) 5. Crash 4 (WoC) I haven't played the N Sane Trilogy yet. At least not properly.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 I prefer Crash 2 for the innovations made and better moveset (and a little nostalgia tbh) the only level I found outright frustrating was Beehaving for 100% completion.
Saxguy compared to other Crash games: it’s alright! Compared to other games: it’s really great! If you think that this game is bad, then you probably haven’t played any of the **actual** bad games; this game is a masterpiece compared to them ( both Sonic 06/Spyro Enter The Dragon are bad games, you can’t say that this game is as bad as them; at least it’s playable)!
I wasn't just the loading times. It's also poor game design and graphics, but just about all early ps2 games suffered from that. So, I won't be too harsh on the graphics. I have nostalgia for this game like everyone who play it as a kid. And trust me, I absolutely LOVED this game. But I was a kid
Not sure if anybody else mentioned this but there's quite a simple reason why you remember the loading screens being long. It's because there are two revisions of the game. Long story short - the devs wanted to add a minigame where crash collected wumpa fruit during the loading screens but they were too short so they artificially made them longer. The publisher didn't want to risk infringing on the Namco patent of games during loading screens so the developers had to remove it but didn't have time to fix the length of the loading screens before launch. They did however have time to fix them for the patched version of the game that shipped out later.
Honest to God it absolutely was even as a kid whenever I was really disappointed and how the game turned out compared to the original Crash Bandicoot games I still thought the game was amazing and now that I've grown up I've just appreciate the game just that much more sure does it have a major flaws absolutely but I genuinely feel like it's a good game
11:15 *_WRONG_* You need it for that gem platforming section to get another gem which was difficult af for me the first time but still fun. 15:02 You can tell where the spot to dodge is going to be if you look at Crunch the moment he releases this attack and exposes himself from some particles comming out of him. Great review btw, you gave a lot of insight, most i never knew about and i only disagreed on one part. Woc i believe is better than warped simply because it had variety in themes, excellent soundtrack, good controling vechiles, (Only the sub is the worst in the franchise, the mech i learnt how or what to shoot so i liked and i'd still would love to see how much the geniouses over at oxford studios would've perfected the sub, just like how they perfected almost all of Twinsanity, even their ideas were more Crash than the entire Naughty Dog trilogy) not being stuck in a vechile for most levels, longer sometimes more open and context behind levels. Example: H2O is Crash using the sub to reach an underwater base, then ditches it and goes on foot in search of a crystal. That's so fucking cool. Anyway, MY POINT! This new "more open, playable Coco and Cortex, context behind levels" game reminds me of wrath of cortex with unfortunately a teeny tiny bit of Twinsanity. Unfortunately because the game like wrath of cortex will not be as perfect or at least EXPAND on what the series evolution aka crash twinsanity accomplished, instead we're going back AGAIN to the outdated ND style. Bruh. At this point this "new" game is not as necessary as a twinsanity re-imagine is but whatever. Way.....WAY too fucking early to judge, these are just first impressions.
I think why I liked that game was because of the big variety of environments in each levels, there's a lot of different scenery. The vehicles suck for the most part, but at least they almost always appear in only one level unlike in crash 3, where for me it was often irritating to see another motorbike or jet-ski level when all I wanted to do is platforming. The second boss was pretty challenging as a kid, and beating it was pretty satisfying. The last boss is also a nice boss fight for a game aimed at a young audience. The extra levels that you unlock for getting relics is a nice addition too. They're nothing to brag about for the most part but it was still nice to unlock those. I like the sens of weight that crash has, in a way it's kind of satisfying to play (except when his hanging from iron grids). The OST is really funky, it has some pretty memorable tracks. Overall it's a rather flawed game, most of the vehicles feel out of place in a platformer just like they did in crash 3 ,some of the textures and models are pretty gross to look at, when crash hangs to the grids his speed is reduced by two, and the ps2 loading times are too long. And despite that it's still a game that I had a lot of fun with. It's flawed, but who isn't ?
I grew up loving this game on the PS2, played this all summer back in 2006 when I first discovered the game. The elemental masks were such cool bosses and just so unique in personality. I would love to see this game remade or remastered like the N.Sane trilogy.
When I was a kid, I had all the crash games on PS1. I loved them. Even Crash Bash. My uncle had a PS2, so I got his handmedown games. But he had this game! And of course, it being the only Crash game I didn’t have, I wanted to play it every time I went to his house. I loved it. The artistic style. The music. The vehicles. The new characters and concepts. I haven’t replayed this one as an adult, but after watching this, I’m probably going to. The hate is unwarranted. This is a good Crash game.
I remember playing this as a kid and only beating the entire game once. My PS2 didn't have a memory card, so I had to beat it without turning it off within 3 days because I had to go back to my mom's house.
The checkpoint past the tsunami door is there for if you are taking the gem platform on the left. (Not sure if anyone already said this but wanted to point it out) (11:20)
@@crimsondynamo615 What's weird is that they fixed that on the Greatest Hits version. So what was the excuse for the original version having slow load times?
No one will probably see this, but in the Coco level with the checkpoint at the end, it's there for the bonus gem level you can do right then. As a test, I did that level without hitting the checkpoint and if you die... it's all the way back to redo the tsunami. So it's definitely NOT a useless checkpoint!!

The one thing I remember is the boss fights. Each one was unique in its own way. The entire idea of Crunch using the masks was such a cool idea. The last boss was eh, but the others have stuck with me.
Crunch is the best part of this game hands down. He and the elemental water masks carry this game. Such a great character.
Elemental masks* although the water one is great I guess 😂

This series should be called “Wumpa Reviews” or something
I don’t know what it is, but the way you review games really takes me back. Nice job!
6:22 Get that Dragon in CTR Nitro Fueled as a playable character.
He's already in the Game, in "Dragon Mines."
We'll get that before we get a legendary Geary skin
SilentKiller55 He’s already in the fame dude. He’s on dragon mines.
11:20 that checkpoint is necessary for the blue gem path. It’s probably the hardest platforming section of the game
i am not really sure that every game was like this but in my experience the game wasnt on dvd.
Its cute, its fun and there is a lot to do.
in my opinion: crash 3 > wrath of cortex > crash 2
the water mask being R Lee Ermey is fucking nuts
I thought that it was really cool when I played it... i thought it was really cool
This is the best Crash Bandicoot video game ever made and my personal favorite video game in general! I love it so much! Everything about it I’m just so in love with it!
This game is incredibly nostalgic for me because the McDonald's by my house had two Playstations that kids could play this on.
It really was great.
*"It's Nothing Like The Original Trilogy."*
Sometimes change is good, but it is hard to change what was already good! 😅
yeah, once a game is made, (for example ctr which was godlike) its hard to improve on what's good. honestly, cnk got really close to being like ctr, but really messed up the controls
@Ibrahim Diab The only thing that they would “improve” would be the graphics, and even though they’re good, doesn’t mean the original doesn’t have value! 😃👍
The problem is, it makes you THINK that it’s a crash game like the original trilogy. But makes a 180 with all the vehicle levels.
@@grandmajenkins But it is technically a Crash game, but with added stuff to it. There’s nothing wrong with that! 🤷♀️
@@XxEmulatingKing Recently replayed Nitro Kart, forgot how awful the handling on those vehicles were. Makes me wonder how I was able to beat it when I was younger...
The checkpoint after the tsunami is for the blue gem section there - It's pretty spicy to say the least...
Huge crash fan here, grew up on three originals, was super excited when this came out. Yeah, it is my favorite of the series, still don’t understand the hate behind it.
This was a game from my childhood, so I love it more than I probably should.
Just found your channel randomly on RUclips and gotta say: just love it! I love Crash and now playing Crash 4 it's simply awesome to revive all this ancient games. Played em' all too!!
This is the next remake we need
Ebanks Studios no
Nope
Yesssss it would be lit
Defo down to play a remake of this. Some fool will say it should be Twinsanity or TTR.....cheap lesser quality games
"we" lmao
I like this game. This is the Crash game that I grew up with and its really cool seeing someone talk about it! Thanks for the great video.
Fun Fact: The water elemental has the same voice actor as the drill sargent in full metal jacket
7:52 Whoah is that the FMJ Drill Sargeant?
I remember when i was a kid i found this game to be something not "real".
I always felt like it was a bad copy of the previous chapters and only now i just found out it was not done by naughty dog lol
It feels not only repetitive but more of a bad copy of warped.
While twinsanity and titans were just way too different from the main style of the game.
In my heart warped will be the best we ever had from the series.
Nice vid
11:25 It's for the gem, buddy.
Specifically _before_ it, so that you don't screw yourself on the gem route by first striking the nitro [ ! ] crate
I don't understand the hate. I loved this game and thought it took on a fresh take after the original trilogy. Also thought the gameplay graphics were insane good when it came out 😅
Nice, I agree! ^_^
I thought it was pretty good but not as good as 2 or 3. But it's a bit better than the first game.
Thank you for explaining the full cutscenes instead of showing the scenes with commentary, really good 👍
I love Crunch and I hope he appears more in future games. He's a good boi with TONS of potential!
I fully forgot about this game. Your video has unlocked a secret memory in my head, thank you!
Seriously man the quality and quantity of your content is so gosh darn good this is one of my new favourite channels, not just because I’m a huge fan of crash, but because now I’m a huge fan of you. Please keep this going :D
This soundtrack ❤❤❤❤
The checkpoint in Tsunami is for the bonus gem route.
I’m personally a really big fan of this game, it’s probably my 2nd favorite Crash game ...
If I was to rank my Top 5 of the main series ignoring spinoffs. It would be this.
1. Crash 3
2. Crash 1
3. Crash 2
4. Crash 5 (Twinsanity)
5. Crash 4 (WoC)
I haven't played the N Sane Trilogy yet. At least not properly.
British Media Bully Honestly that’s pretty much exactly how I’d rank those games as well.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 1: Crash 2
2: Crash 3
3: Crash 4 (twoc)
4: Crash 1
5: not sure
@@Aiden-Ed
My list has changed a bit recently. Crash 1 is above Crash 2 now. The latter is more frustrating than fun.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 I prefer Crash 2 for the innovations made and better moveset (and a little nostalgia tbh) the only level I found outright frustrating was Beehaving for 100% completion.
Seems like this and Twinsanity have gotten more appreciation over the years.
I only played WoC out of the two but I remember liking it a lot.
“Was this a good game” ... um this was one of my favourites

compared to other Crash games: it’s alright!
@@tgnoat910 im not comparing this game into other ps2 games just crash bandicoots. I have way more playtime on nintendo 64 and gamecube than ps2
Never understood the hate for it outside of loading times
The loading times arent that bad for me maybe they fixed it on the platinum discs on ps2
@@zedig6580 The long load times was only on PS2, Gamecube and Xbox versions doesn't have this.
@@GordoFreakmanFail-Life I know I use the ps2 version and my loading times are short
Wumpa Lewis: ctr has taken the crown of long loading times
GTA V: Am I a joke to you?
GTAV on PS3: *Laughs unconfortably*
Not sure if anybody else mentioned this but there's quite a simple reason why you remember the loading screens being long. It's because there are two revisions of the game. Long story short - the devs wanted to add a minigame where crash collected wumpa fruit during the loading screens but they were too short so they artificially made them longer. The publisher didn't want to risk infringing on the Namco patent of games during loading screens so the developers had to remove it but didn't have time to fix the length of the loading screens before launch. They did however have time to fix them for the patched version of the game that shipped out later.
I’m getting n sane trilogy for the switch yay
Alden Robinson Congrats!
Let's go!
Fish?
Just bought it, it's a great port
Josh Allen shut the up
I feel like I'm one of the only people who actually likes this game, it was the first Crash game I ever played
It'd funny how both crash 4 games has 4 mask.
This was the first video game I ever played. Even if it's lacking in some ways it will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I completely forgot about this game, and I played the whole thing back in the day and really liked it haha
Lol outdated Naughty Dog style? The Naughty Dog trilogy are the only crash games that still hold up today buddy hence the remakes
XpertGreek Gamer so your saying that you did an essay for your gamer mind?
@@Aym4n- Where is this going? Why did you reply?
XpertGreek Gamer relax I was just being sarcastic
@@Aym4n- Well shit. (I love sarcasm but fuck It in text, you can hardly tell unless you use key words)
1:20 Why does he look like a pvz zombie
I grew up loving this game on the PS2, played this all summer back in 2006 when I first discovered the game. The elemental masks were such cool bosses and just so unique in personality. I would love to see this game remade or remastered like the N.Sane trilogy.
I'm quiet glad later games redesigned the size of Crunch. I found his debut size... umm... too clunky.
I had to agree with you. 👍🏻
@@mrjoshmtz97 thnx
Those were the days
I really love this video series you started. Keep up the good work!
this game was the first game I tried 100% holy fuck this game could be frustrating 😂 especially the water crash boss.
The checkpoint past the tsunami door is there for if you are taking the gem platform on the left. (Not sure if anyone already said this but wanted to point it out) (11:20)
I really like this game !
But I prefer the original 3
This game wanted SO badly to just be Crash 3, but again.
The loading screens for this game gave me headaches X(
God help you if you were stuck with the ps2 version where the loading screen will just be stuck
@@crimsondynamo615 Yeah...About that.
@@crimsondynamo615 What's weird is that they fixed that on the Greatest Hits version. So what was the excuse for the original version having slow load times?
That was THE reason I stopped playing and at 10 years old they felt never ending and sometimes they were!!
Same
My eyes hurt a lot with the loading screen
No one will probably see this, but in the Coco level with the checkpoint at the end, it's there for the bonus gem level you can do right then. As a test, I did that level without hitting the checkpoint and if you die... it's all the way back to redo the tsunami. So it's definitely NOT a useless checkpoint!!
I remember there is a cheat code for this game that gives full access to everything.
Typing WOMBAT as your file save name 👌
but it works only on Xbox and Gamecube
This was actually my favorite Crash game 🤷🏻♂️
To each their own I guess
Crash 2 is my favorite.
Pretty fair review. I didn't hate the game, but it isn't high on my list of wanting to go back and play.
