I use Panasonic, Micro 4/3rds gives you cheaper/lighter/smaller lens options. Panasonic has had fully articulated flip screens forever. If you're just podcasting, pick up an old GH4 for cheap on eBay (~$500). I have one on a dummy battery connected to an ATEM Mini. Of course the GH5 is even better, but overkill for simple podcasting. My Podcast set up: ruclips.net/video/lU1TkAfatXg/видео.html
I think I ran across a video of yours a year ago. I’ve been spending bucket fulls of money to build an amazing show along with my training Boxing programs. I’ve found that your videos answer real issues and you’re not just trying to sound smart, you’re actually explaining not rambling big words. I’m subscribing and I’m purchasing the Sony from your link. Good stuff my man, keep up the great work. You’re shoulders above the egoist on RUclips. Keep working 👊🏽
The record limit was a lot of the reason for going with a Panasonic G85 and GH5 for me. Looking for ways to record while painting without being concerned about starts and stops is huge for me. Looks like the Sony is another great choice!
Hi Javier! Just wanted to say that I truly appreciate your content. Your videos have helped me tremendously and I always find myself referencing back just in case I might have forgotten something. Well done and looking forward to more. All the best!
The ibis struggle is real if you need a camera to cover you for a bunch of different projects but for dedicated podcasting for sure it is a great option.
Except for Panasonic all of them record for ever! Gh5, g85, g7. I did get a USB dummy battery for my a6400, didn’t realize just using the USB port would work too. I did get a bracket to move the microphone to the left of the camera, makes for a nice small package! I’m really liked the Sigma trinity although I only have two, the 16 and the 30. Nice video And great information!
Thanks Duane, the sigmas are great especially for the price. And Panasonic for sure has been the only one in the game that could record with no limit. But I think the a6400 is better suited for video podcasting for the reasons I stated here, great cameras though.
Javier Mercedes hell even just for recording yourself/talking head it’s great. Just did a video today with the 6400 and it worked great! I think if I lost everything and could only have one it would be the a6400 even though it drives me crazy at times. (Partly I’m responding because I like what you do and I know how engagement helps). Keep up the great content! 👍🏻
I didn't realize the camera would run and basically maintain the batter via the USB port. I tested that last night and I had it run for almost 2 hours and the battery indicator only. reduced one tick - I was using a 2.1A port instead of a 2.4A (it was dead) so not sure if that would have been even better. I'm glad you mentioned that because I didn't realize that was a viable option.
I just upgraded from recording on my phone to the a6400 last week. I ended up going with the Sigma 16mm lens and have been loving the new set up. Do you have any tips you would recommend for settings you changed on your a6400? There are several menus and this is my first real camera, so I have been looking for good guides / info there.
Hey Javier! Thank you for this informative video - it has really helped me! I currently have the Sony A5000 and it can only record for 20 minutes before overheating and switching off. You mentioned The A6400 overheating in this video... What has your experience been with your camera overheating? How long does it take to get hot? I also have a podcast where I record for 1-2 hours... will the A6400 be able to record for the duration without overheating? Thank you in advance, all your help is appreciated!!
In my normal temp room I have not had an issue with it overheating. All podcasts I’ve recorded it has not been an issue. Now if you were recording in direct sunlight then yes it would overheat at some point but overheating hasn’t been an issue for me.
Nice video. I have the Sony a6400 as my main camera. I have used the Sony FS5 and Canon C100 but the a6400 is great. Small yet powerful. Thanks for the video, well done.
Small yet powerful is right!, I've used the Fs7 and even that doesn't have the capability to record proxies, and the auto focus is way better on the a6400. great camera.
hello, you say this camera doe NOT have a record time limit???? I have this camera and it does seem to time out? is there a function in the setup I may of missed? Please if you know let me know. I am going to purchase the usb power pack for sure as we have to change out batteries every time we record as we usually run about 2 hours long during filming.
Love this video and subscribed to your channel! I bought the a6400 to start videoing my podcast but felt a bit lost with what lens was best and how to best adjust the settings. Thank you so much for this video and all the info you share. What is the app you're talking about in the video? I want to download that for sure!
think it’s worth the extra money to get the a6500 or a6600. Maybe even see if they release the a6700 soon? Hmmmm I’d mainly be using it for streaming on twitch with a mc-11 and my sigma 18-35 1.8
I bought 3 Sony A6400s I have 2 sure sm7bs with cloud lifters, a rodecaster, lights, etc. I know nothing about cameras or editing but took a chance on myself and invested. I'm learning with Final Cut Pro through various RUclips tutorials but it turns out that I'm actually pretty stupid... do you or anyone reading know where I can find a walkthrough on the perfect settings for the a6400 for Multicam editing?? I'm having trouble with file sizes while editing too. Ive been stuck for months and I feel myself starting to give up and I can't let that happen. Please someone let me know where to find the setting that would be best for about 1 hour to an hour and a half video podcast on the a6400s that are ideal for editing on Final Cut Pro on a Mac book pro. Thank you
1 make Proxys Files and work whit those file 2 Buy an Atem Mini Pro Iso recomend Iso connect the HDMI cable to yours camera and to te rodecaster you need 1 Y cable. Its a switcher and resolve you time really easy and use Davinci resolve tho edit that file of your record whit the all camera and audio from you rodecaster. Make more searching but that all and take time to learn editing just don’t give up 😎👍🏽
Thank you Javier for this great video! I'm looking for a camera for my video podcast! Does the a6400 overheat at all? That's my biggest worry with DSLR's
I've recorded many podcasts with it, I would only worry about overheating if you were recording outside in direct sunlight or higher temperature environments. It hasn't been an issue for me in normal indoor scenarios.
Hi Javier, can you make an update for this video. Has something change within the last 3 years since you published this video? Some other newer Sony camera in the same price range or even cheaper? I am planning to start podcast soon, Have Rodecaster pro, Atem mini pro and Canon dslr's (6d mark2 and 70d) both with 30 minutes limitation. What do you suggest, maybe also mention cameras with clean hdmi output would be a solution and record on atem mini pro.
It’s a great cam, I do prefer Canon’s flippy screen style. Hope everything is good at Accu and you are healthy Lincoln, thanks for taking the time to watch!
question: I do video podcast through zoom with guests that connect remotely, that means I record the whole thing through zoom and not a camera. My podcasts last avg 1:00- 2:00 hours. I want to improve the video quality. What camera you recommend? the A6400 or a Canon Vixia HF G50 UHD 4K .
I doubt even if your camera records high quality, Zoom will convert it it lower quality to save bandwidth. Zoom would never do 4K for video calls I assume.
The videos you showed were pretty noisy though... I'm an absolute amateur, I'm looking to buy a good camera as I've only been using my phone so far, and if there is one thing I would like to get rid of it's noise, if I already invest in something. The sensor on this one seems big, so I'm wondering why there was still noise on your videos
I agree ,I am uprading ,I spent my budget on audio ,because I belive adiio is much much more iportant ,not I am upgrading video and geting 3 A6400 with 50 mm f 1.8 glass.. I was on the fence ,you convince me completly ... everyarguent on point.
Hey Javier! Im quite new to this camera podcast world! I own the Sony A7iii, what lens is best for a video podcast shoot of just myself in the image? Would your choice still be the 50mm?
Hey Bro! what do u think about the a6600?? I have to chose which one buy for my podcast. This will be my first "pro camera", but I'd like to don't waste money: 6400 to old, or the 6600 not worth the upgrade or it doesn't have the stuff u told on the video. Thank you so much! :) From a listener of Passion in progress!
Giulius9 I’m not sure because I haven’t used it before so I can’t give an opinion, but if it has no record limit that’s the biggest thing for me. For strictly podcasting purposes the a6400 is perfect.
@@JavierMercedes Sorry man, any others advice about lens? I gotta record 4 people in a table , I'll take the f1.8 50mm no matter what for my videos, but what about the best lens for a more "wide" view for my 4 guys at the table? (I'll put others two S20+ cameras) Thank you so so much!
Hi, I am planning to buy m6 mark 2 for content creation(6/7 hour long video recording for RUclips and other social media content) will it overheat??.... As sony camera( my wish list was a7c) and lenses are expensive and don't like the picture colour so i prefer canon m6 mark 2 as it fit my budget and I am beginner also... What's your opinion about m6 mark 2 ? Can i use usb cable to connect that camera to my pc for using canon utility software and does autofocus work on that software and same time no autofocus sign coming on the monitor... Full screen the picture in the monitor with out any info and record it in obs ??... Another question.... Will the same usb cable that I am using to Connect the camera to pc will also charge the camera simultaneously while recording the video??.... Last question during the process should I press video record button on the camera or without video recording just open the camera focus on the subject and the screen that is going to pc that I can record in obs???...... I know my queries are long.... If you have the patience to read these long questions then plz give the answer..... Thanks...
So I am planning to record an hour long podcast. I was hoping you might answer a few questions? 1. Is there a better Sony mirror less that is better than the 6400 that doesn’t have the time limit 2. I have the 70-200 4.0, 24-70 GM 2.8, and 85 1.8 e mount lens. Which would be best? 3. I want to run audio straight from my mixer to the camera, is there any reason I shouldn’t? 4. Do you have patreon? Thank you
1. Sony a7siii 2. 24-70 3. You can but pickups might be not as good, you want to look into getting a sony k3m adaptor that transmits the signal digitally to the camera. 4. Patreon: www.patreon.com/javiermercedes
Really good and informative video. Liked and Subscribed. I have an A6300. I guess that’s the older model but works pretty good. And I love that 50mm lenses. It’s pretty awesome for video interviews
Hi i bought this camara and i use it for streaming but after 50 mins an overhead error pops up. And i have to stop recording and change to webcam. I use an external baterry connected to power outlet. Also i use the elgato camlink. Any advice? Perhaps i have the config all wrong
Would the a6400 be good for taking video and making sports edit? Im a beginner and i would like to know if i should get the a6400 right now or save up for the a7iii
At this point if you are thinking about saving up for the a7iii I would just save up for the a7siii because that camera has not record limit. A6400 is more affordable though.
Does anyone find it weird that not one person on the internet uses a video camera? I don't think manufacturers knew that DSLR cameras would be used exclusively for all content in 2021.
Ok - new A6400, turn it on, then it turns off after 1 minute. I can set it to 30 minutes, but how can I use HDMI 'out' if it shuts off after 30 minutes?
How does the 6400 have an articulating screen, but not the 6500? Well... that aside, we’re all about that Sony life. Just got a second 6500 for multi cam. Thanks for this review! 🤖
Methodbox the a6500 is an old model, the a6400 was the first camera in the 6xxx series to have a flip screen! Meter they announced the a6100 and a6600, the numbers are not in order of release!
Great Video Javier! Just bought this cam for my new podcast :) What’s the app that you use to control the camera remotely? I can’t find an official app in my App Store in the UK
Javier Mercedes thank you so much for the quick reply! Am I able to spot focus on the phone from where I am using the app? I want to spot focus on myself without moving my position
What a great video this was! Just subbed. I have a question: for a newbie podcaster, would you recommend recording audio and video directly with this camera? Via XLR. Please let me know.
Sony does have an extension you can buy that has XLR inputs but I would advise against using this as your main recorder and use a dedicated audio record for sound.
Hi Javier hope you read this! I use the same cameras as you for my start up podcast and have learned lots from your channel! Thank you so much! BUT I have had one issue recently, I did a podcast recording and for some reason the video came out EXTREMELY exposed in some minutes and dark in others. So it looks like the video goes bright as hell and then dark as hell by itself. I have done couple of recordings before in program auto mode and this issue never happened. I did some trial runs and saw this seemed to happen when the metering mode was in "multi". When I changed it to "average whole screen" the lighting seemed to be stable. Please could you help me with this :(! I really need your help! I would highly appreciate it !!
of course it overheats if you leave the battery in and plug the camera into power so that the battery is constantly charging... thats why you use the dummy battery. not overheating that way.
I was debating between getting this camera or getting something cheaper (like a Canon M200 or 50) and using Camlink plus OBS to record podcast videos for longer than 30mins, but from the few videos I watched on this method it seems the OBS recording compromises the smoothness and some other features of the direct camera recording. Is this correct and always the case though?
Both are a viable option, I just try and eliminate as much tech head ache as possible by removing as many obstacles that could stop working during a record. Using a camera dedicated to just the act of capturing video saves your from worrying if all the other components in an OBS setup are running smooth during a record.
Thinking of getting this camera for longer video recording time than 29'59", I heard that only the low resolution format has no limit while the high resolution format still has the time limit for a6400. Can anyone verify if this is true?
4k has no time limit, It just takes more processing so you may run out of battery or over heat. I haven't had an issue with the camera overheating in a normal room temp shooting 1080p for my podcasts.
Wouldn't it be easier to just get a camcorder? They don't have a limit and wont overheat. Not to mention they are much cheaper. If it's good enough for Rogan I don't see why more podcasters don't use them.
Well what camcorder does Rogan use exactly? The new digital camcorders have horrendous picture quality compared to the very large sensors on modern still cameras I believe. Unless you get up around $6,000 for a Sony FX3 and then on up to $7,500 for an FX6 Sony.
What camera are you using to record your video podcasts?
Great video, but I'm thinking of investing in a camcorder just because it's cheaper with two angles. Though depth of field won't be as nice.
How far should the camera be from the subject with the 50mm 1.8 to be able to capture good clear footage of the subject and background?
I use Panasonic, Micro 4/3rds gives you cheaper/lighter/smaller lens options. Panasonic has had fully articulated flip screens forever. Added hack on my a6500 to eliminate record limit. No Ibis on a6400 but who needs it for podcasts. Great work Javier.
The ibis struggle is real if you need a camera to cover you for a bunch of different projects but for dedicated podcasting for sure it is a great option.
Gonna work hard and get the this level of production value!
Curious to know if you'd recommend the ZV e10 now over the a6400?
It's a bit more, but the Sigma 56mm F1.4 is pretty amazing pairing with the 6400/6600

2. I have the 70-200 4.0, 24-70 GM 2.8, and 85 1.8 e mount lens. Which would be best?
3. I want to run audio straight from my mixer to the camera, is there any reason I shouldn’t?
4. Do you have patreon?
Thank you
1. Sony a7siii
2. 24-70
3. You can but pickups might be not as good, you want to look into getting a sony k3m adaptor that transmits the signal digitally to the camera.

Really good and informative video. Liked and Subscribed. I have an A6300. I guess that’s the older model but works pretty good. And I love that 50mm lenses. It’s pretty awesome for video interviews
Thanks for the support Aaron. Yeah a nifty fifty is always a perfect solution to get a great look on a budget.
What would your second recommendation be for a cheaper and obviously lower quality for a second angle? #podcastingonabudget lol
Your phone is always a great solution if it has space
Thank you for this!
Javier Mercedes gotcha. What are the downsides of the a6400? And is it a huge drop off from the a7iii?
Does anyone find it weird that not one person on the internet uses a video camera? I don't think manufacturers knew that DSLR cameras would be used exclusively for all content in 2021.
What’s up man I was wondering if you can help me, my Sony a6400 cuts the video every 10 minutes an you let me know what’s the issue thanks
That’s by default you have to go in and change the se settings to No Limit
Hey bro, what is the housing you have attached onto the end of the lens?
It’s the lens cap that came with the lens, not sure the specs on it.
@@JavierMercedes thank you bro!
Wait whatttttt!? The a6500 doesn’t have an articulating screen?
Methodbox the a6500 is an old model, the a6400 was the first camera in the 6xxx series to have a flip screen! Meter they announced the a6100 and a6600, the numbers are not in order of release!
Definitely getting this camera soon! Might go ahead and sell my whole canon DSLR setup.
I like it 👍
Great video!!
thanks for taking the time to comment Alejandro!
Great Video Javier! Just bought this cam for my new podcast :) What’s the app that you use to control the camera remotely? I can’t find an official app in my App Store in the UK
Imaging edge mobile
have you tried the 55 zeiss? omg that's sharp as F
Dope video! Honestly helps so much. What’s the app I download on my phone called?
Imagining edge mobile
Javier Mercedes thank you so much for the quick reply! Am I able to spot focus on the phone from where I am using the app? I want to spot focus on myself without moving my position
What a great video this was! Just subbed.
I have a question: for a newbie podcaster, would you recommend recording audio and video directly with this camera? Via XLR. Please let me know.
Sony does have an extension you can buy that has XLR inputs but I would advise against using this as your main recorder and use a dedicated audio record for sound.
I use the Rodecaster for recording audio, which always comes out very clean.
VERY USEFUL. 5/5
I have a 6300 and I can't record more than 10 min string because overheat😭 does this happen to this one as well?
not in my experience
@@JavierMercedes Thank you😀
Hi Javier hope you read this! I would highly appreciate it !!
whos that girl @ 2:45 ?
Thanks!!
You’re welcome
Do you have to use the play memories for this camera? Because didn’t they delete it ?
Nope, in America it comes standard that you can record unlimited time at least.
of course it overheats if you leave the battery in and plug the camera into power so that the battery is constantly charging... thats why you use the dummy battery. not overheating that way.
what camera do you use for your overhead shot?
Here is my video on my overhead shot setup but I use a Sony rx100 ruclips.net/video/UMzL0taqFH4/видео.html
Greetings. ! What’s the recording limit on the a6400 ? I have watched reviews that claims that there’s no recording limit on this camera.
No record limit
@@JavierMercedes Tnx for clarifying 👍🏼
What camera is best for interviews?
The Sony a7siii is nice
What app lets you control the camera
Sony’s camera app is called “imaging edge”
how long does it film for? 29min?
Unlimited time
Thank you!
Thank you, man! Looking to upgrade the podcast studio's cameras. Definitely going a6400!
@@JavierMercedes thanks for the reply, appreciate it. And great video!
Yah but for how much?
Between $800-1000
@@robiulahmed When I Googled I got figures of $1300 +, However Thanks! Perhaps it'll be on Amazon.
That’s what I use!
