We need to personally find a way to be grateful and happy with what we do have. We need to stop making excuses of “improving” our edc and improve our minds and physic. These are the real upgrades imo.

At this point I'm at peak EDC gear. I just need to focus on training, skills, and health.
For example my EDC is built on self defense but it also carries over to preparedness.
    Knife
    Flashlight
    Pew pew
    Multitool
    Small IFAK
I need more training with my pewpew and with my IFAK.
If I want a healthy life and develop a new skill for self-defense jujitsu, muay thai, and strongman workouts would hit all those. But everything takes time.

The next best step for EDC tools is their practical use in urban and semi-rural environments.

The last mile, inch, gram is the most expensive. I just spent 3x to replace my 7 yr old bicycle. Truly, I am the limiting factor, NOT my 7 yo bike! 😂🤣💯

Wearable EDC is still lacking. The Leatherman Tread fell flat. I think there could be advancements in gear-centric clothing. Just a thought.

Gaps are likely specialized tools used by niche groups. Those waterpump pliers are an example that people started carrying because they could.

I agree with you. Any new changes will come from users of the gear. Keep it tight, and keep it simple. The range of gear is there for everyone.

Lots of great points! I think the future of edc will be incorporating tech into our tools. I can picture a multi tool with built in AI that can be paired with a camera to show us how to creat something or provide critical information and it would be solar powered too. When reliable micro solar panels become a thing, I can see them being incorporated in many tools. But yeah AI and tech will play a large part in the next evolution of edc in my opinion.

".....and I think you're in the same boat" he accused of me, as I have 20 different last-the-rest-of-your-life quality knives sitting right next to my pc lol
I think we're beginning to blur the line of build quality and durability between folding knife and small fixed blade but not QUITE there. Back in the day the original moras were made famous because you could baton them and stick the blade in a tree and stand on it without it breaking. What's the physical difference between that partial tang 3.5" mora and a folder? Realistically it was the leverage of a longer tang and maybe like a second pin holding tang and handle together. I fully believe with more refinement and ingenuity the gap between mora basic fixed blade and folding knife could be bridged, and done so with the smooth operation of today's EDC knives. Locking mechanisms like the super lock, triad lock, deadbolt, and vosteed's new lock are getting closer but not quite there
This would work with the small fixed blade role since the force and leverage on a smaller blade is not as great as a large one. IMO when a locking system is created that has a tang of sufficient length secured well from movement in 3 dimensions a folding fixed blade will be actually viable and usable in things like camping/bushcraft as that'd basically be a partial tang fixed blade secured by 2 pins like a mora

Ealry I would have have to learn from trial and error. I had the chrome Industries tensile sling bag, which looks good but is garbage when you realize the Ctactical CT 5 gives more organization with hook and loop. Thats one example of a few but now i know things that work and don't and can research much better to find my grail. Benchmade Adira knife, Arc Multitool and the ibex 35 for hiking and backpacking ultralight or general use.

Recently for edc, I got a Gerber Air Ranger and some CRKT folder, i forgot the name of it. The colors looked better in the BladeHQ pics. Fml 😂😰
What i wanna add to my edc is a Leatherman ratcheting bit driver but those are impossible to find. A company other than Leatherman should be making those 😢

What's kinda crazy is probably 99% of the knifes made in China, can't be legally sold there 😂 they have insanely strict knife laws now, you need to show ID to buy a kitchen knife in most provinces 🤣

Where do we go from here? As much as I dislike them: The future is integration (A.K.A. multitools). We still need a Knipex cobra or plierswrench multitool.

The technology in flashlights is really astonishing. But the big problem with the high lumen output settings is over heating. I think that is the next frontier for flashlight edc. Knives need to work on ergonomics and refinement. Many do but most of the new stuff needs to be revised 1 or 2 more times. Just my 2 cents.

I'd like a kershaw select fire with a locking bit driver. Also I haven't bought one because I heard the bit holder part of the driver falls off.

I look at EDC as a compromise minimal tool system that will temporarily fix a fail until a proper fix can be made with a complete bag or box of tools. Dedicated professional tools have lots of room to improve when it comes to function and design. Every time a new and improved material arrives on the scene then there will be new and improved tools to follow.
