BEST 'story for the build' matching up, so far. And. BEST winter weathering so far. Dang Chris, you're rakin' in those awards. No kidding, this is inspirational. Thank you for sharing...
Round 2 should give you the salesman of the year award. Another kit I would've walked right past at the LHS that I'll be grabbing two of now. Awesome job on the build!
Haha, thanks, I like working with all the channel supporters to spread modeling FUN! Thank you and thanks for stopping by the channel and watching! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
I still own my square body sonoma, ive had it almost 30 years. I like how detailed the frame was on this kit. I remember that color was Teal in chevy but sea foam in gmc lol
I built the S10 SS version when I was a teen. Put in a 454 from a full size truck kit I never finished (it came with the truck, a trailer and a speed boat). I remember this kit. I remember it coming with the snowboard when it originally came out.
These old s10s are so reliable and plentifle probably one of the best gm trucks ever built. And you can do anything to them, lowrider, offroad, lift kit, drag truck, etc.
Nice! I had a 93 gmc sonoma when I was 18! Tested her real good until the oil pump quit. After that I bored her .30 over and custom cammed it. Real ground pounded for a 4.3 after that!
I like how you have your own story to go with particular builds. So I’m going to start writing down my own stories for each of my own builds. Thank You for the idea. I just got that GMC Sonoma that I’m taking the GMC parts to convert a AMT ‘97 Blazer into a ‘97 GMC Jimmy.
Late 80s into 90s had these awesome colors, Chevy was known for the pastels. The 1989/1990 Baretta Indy 500 Edition had seat inlays and graphics that matched body color. Chevy was also the first car manufacturer to put Teal on a car, 1990 or 1991, and the car was the Camaro. In 1995, the greatest car ever built was released, the Supra Mark IV Twin Turbo. Still highly sought after due to strength of engine. I'd buy one if I could find one unmodified! Great build, snow looks fantastic!
I'm not a model builder but I made a bronco once and decided to relic it. I used a hot needle to form rust holes around the wheel wells and then painted the rust color. Even heated up a couple sections to make dents and bent bumper. I didn't know anyone else actually reliced models. Lol
I like the backstory with your builds! Awesome job. I like the turquoise with the pink swigley stripes! I have a white 2002 Chevy S10 regular cab short bed that I've had for almost 7 years now and it's the best preowned vehicle I've owned!
The snow effect really worked great, and the level of weathering was spot on for your building theme You are truly awesome at bringing more interest to the hobby
Hello Chris, I thought you might be interested with how I rust my pipes and manifold. I mix some Testors silver with Testors rust to make them look used but not used up. Changing the mix will give you different aging on the parts. The silver will float on the rust to give a speckled look and be dead flat. The more silver the less used it will look and vice versa. Love this build.
Great build..i had a real 1995 GMC Sonoma extended cab pickup truck back in 2015, it was black and was a five speed manual 2.2 liter four cylinder engine😊😊👍👍
I was and still am more of a fan of the previous boxier style S10 and Sonoma's in the early early 90's. This is a nice model kit though. Certainly glad to see these old kits brought back with some minor upgrades.
"V8 with the back 2 cylinders cut off". I remember hearing that alot when that 4.6L came out. Chevy made a 1500 W/T with that engine. It was a torque monster. You captured everything about this truck and the weathering is amazing. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing 😎
Great build! I still have a few of these (earlier releases), as well as the S10's in my stash, and have owned a few real ones (S10 regular and extended cabs, and a 2WD 4 door Blazer that had an LS1 swapped in), all sitting low (I had my license plate on that Blazer as "LOBLAZE", LOL), loved this video, my friend. You're only a few years younger than I am, in 1995 I was just finishing up a 5 year stint in the Army, joined right after high school before I even turned 18 (with signed parental permission of course), LOL!
Looks good bro. Love how you did this one with the snow and all. Great idea painting the front bumper like it had been replaced. Just a lot of creativity dude!
At first, I was against the red with the light blue, but now that it's built, I'll admit it looks great. I especially love the snow effect. Your observations about GM's 90s design (exterior and interior) is pretty accurate. Looking forward to your next build!
AMT also has re-released/reissued the 1993 GMC Sonoma, and the 1993 Nissan hard body pickup trucks both kits are in massive; 1:20 scale.I was born in 1993 the same year that the Colorado Rockies, were established and had won the World Series, the same year.Happy holidays,Merry Christmas, and happy new year;Chris.
Can't wait to pick this kit up my Dad bought a 89 s10 think it was the first year for the 4.3 took it to a friends house one day we put nitrous on it took it to the track with some slicks on it ran an 7.90 in the 1/8 fun lil truck
Guys like you is probably why when I went to buy a 3 year old S10 x-cab that was absolutely mint and low mileage at a Chevy dealer. It was exactly what I wanted until they started it up and it sounded like a box of hammers under the hood. The salesman told me they would replace the engine for nothing. I politely declined and left. Ended up buying a later square body Dakota.
Another great build Chris. The snow effect was spot on. In 1995 I was on the USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG- 60) stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. I hit my ten year mark that year in the Navy, wow it does not seem that long ago!
Interesting weathering, and well done. Yes the snow looks great. I am used to seeing weathering on tanks and armoured vehicles, and automobiles left in pristine showroom condition. Perhaps the next thing to try would be getting a windscreen wiper pattern of dirt on the windscreen, which would really look nice. Great build!
I remember the AMT Ertl Ford Ranger kits from the same era were very good. They made several version of that, worth looking for on eBay or at shows and swap meets.
GREAT "snow job" on the Sonoma! If that were a PA truck (instead of Colorado) you'd have to put some sandbags in the bed and little silver dots for studs in the tires. Merry Christmas!
Another great build my friend, using the spray snow it a killer idea. Your FaceBook page is cool a lot of great builders. Keep up the great work and R.I.P.
Really nice! I love what you did with this. I didn't knew about highriders before, I thought those parts were "tunner" parts. Tho, I gotta say, I wrote on Google '95 Sonoma highrider and the pictures in the result seemed to be plain Sonoma. Were some highriders built without those? Also, from what I understand, the highriders are 4x4. Does the kit have the parts to make the Sonoma a 4x4, like the transfer cases and such? I have a previous version of this kit, but it's far in my stash, so I can't really grab it right now.
This only has the 2WD parts per the parts look at the beginning. But if you want a highrider style with the flares by looks alone this kit will help you get there.
Great job. A little suggestion try and make that little snow/slush that forms behind the wheel it makes a little wedge, that you have to kick off/out of the wheel well.
Chris, thanks for that sweet review of the 95' GMC Sonoma! Been waiting for that sucker to come out since I heard about it! Excellent detail and loved the weathering and snow!
Yup nice kit I had an 85 s 15 Jimmy years ago it had the less reliable 2.8 liter I drove it for about 3 years till the transmission went out I still see both from time to time still rolling along not as many of the square bodies
An older lady by my old office has a MINT 86 GMC Jimmy in her garage, 2.8L, 4x4, black and red. Last car she and her husband bought, she's in her 90s. No rust. Would love to get ahold of that thing and just drive it now and then. Thank you and thanks for stopping by the channel and watching! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Nice build Chris!! I'm thinking of using your "snow" for a WW2 diorama I have been working on.. 18 in 1995? LOL.. I was 37 and stationed at RAF Alconbury in the UK.. :)
Don't sell yourself short on the snow effects for the 40 Ford, dude! This one looks great but so does the Ford! I've been building kits for 50 years and I would have been completely satisfied with the first effort. Looked pretty darn realistic to me! Maybe you can show us how ya do it on a future video. Unless you're trying to copy a photograph of vehicle that everybody knows, WHO CARES how much or how little snow is on it? One question: do you dull coat the snow or leave it as is? Gooooooooood stuff.
Man u make me feel old I was born in 82. How old r u? Like 43- 44 come on lol. My uncle still has this truck, running like a champ. Cool model tho man.
Really nice build - great finish as usual, that snow looks great. Small suggestion/crit - why no snow on the cab roof? Whatever, I think it looks great.

I made a Shelby-ized Bronco with the stripes and a 428 from a partial Shelby Mustang GT500 kit I bought for a $1 at a yard sale.
You’re a year older than me, I turned 18 in ‘96. I’m wanting that same Sonoma so that I could convert my AMT ‘96 Blazer into a Jimmy.

Just plain lovin' your "back stories" Chris - also a great modeling technique to truly "personalize every project. "Real Rides" rule!
Glad you like them!

Do you sand down the Rustoleum primer before applying the body colour?
Nope, spray and pray.
No sanding, no buffing, fast paced model making. (Hence mistakes, errors and imperfections I'm happy to show to all)

Just curious, why haven’t you invested in an airbrush yet? Though you do an excellent job with spray cans.
Kind of just assuming I don't own and use one, or three.
@@hpiguy just never saw a vid of you using one just asking sine you have great skills with the spray cans.
