@@bobcieslinski This dedication to achieving perfection is something clearly apparent in many Japanese bands. Though their principle of Wabi-Sabi, something known widely in Japan, is a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. It is prevalent throughout all forms of Japanese art.

However, I'm not quite sure I see the connection between the Japanese worldview of wabi-sabi and their pursuit of perfection. Are you suggesting that aiming for perfection is driven by the recognition of an imperfect world? 🧐

Miyako has her own RUclips channel and she shows her practice sessions for pieces she is working on. This insight is fascinating - I think you'd really like that aspect of her. It shows this isn't at all easy - why works so hard and it pays off. The EP of her piano interpretations is a joy to listen to - when it arrived I was like a kid in a candy store. Oh, and there's a new Lovebites live video on their channel - The Hammer Of Wrath - Live - from their forthcoming new DVD. 100% recommnded. I love that so many children in Japan (and other Asian countries) start so early on their instruments. Miyako, Jill of Unlucky Morpheus, and both Yuko (piano) and Beni (shamisen) from Wagakki Band all started young and are all incredible.
I once showed clips of Miyako and Yuko each playing piano to a friend of mine, a longtime piano teacher, and she said both have a “silky ease” to their play styles and that both use their hands with equal proficiency and skillful positioning. What I wouldn’t give for those two to do a piano duet!

Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen are a few musicians that come to mind who doubled on piano / guitar. Respectfully, I don't think they're even in the same universe as Miyako and her abilities on both. I don't know of anyone today in any music genre who composes / plays heavy metal and for a side job, releases classical piano renditions of pretty much any rock / metal song or classical composer. And what's remarkable, she looks so relaxed / matter-of-fact doing it. Certainly once in a lifetime talent and I'm ecstatic to witness it! Great reaction Bob! I'm sure you got the memo, Lovebites released a new live video on their channel, from their March '23 show (1st live show in 2yrs!), featuring Fami live for the first time! Song is Hammer of Wrath and is blowing up on their channel. Safe to say the Goddess in White are back, firing on all cylinders, rejuvenated! And the smile/excitement Fami brings to the band, contagious and you can't help but feel so happy for all of them! A great live comeback performance! 😀🤘

She honored the original but this is a complete reworking of the song for the piano. She wants to show how Classical and Metal are in fact very related. The EP has six great metal songs again reworked for the piano. This women is insanely talented. Her brain isn't pushed enough writing, composing and arranging songs for LB, practicing guitar, practicing piano, practicing with the other beast, Midori...NO she needs to do an EP of metal songs in piano and also do a recital tour in Japan to show off that piano talent. Talk about a super mom, just how intimidating do you have to be(LOL). She is also sweet, kind, and modest despite that insane talent. LB as a band have insane talent and dedicated musicians to one another and their craft.

Watch “A Frozen Serenade” (again 🙂) and you’ll see that it looks like Miyako has hyper mobility in her little fingers because during the harmony with Midori, towards the latter end of the piece, her left “pinkie” looks almost hooked. Her arrangement here is beautiful. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the original, or with Lovebites excellent cover from “Awake Again from Abyss”, but there is no slow section, yet it’s probably my favourite section of her version. And finally, check out the cover of “Burn” where she manages to “pianise” vocals, vocal harmonies, a Hammond C3 organ solo and the Lord God Almighty, Ritchie Blackmore’s solo.

Of all the musicians I have seen in recent memory, Miyako would be a perfect artist for a Music Conservatory to invite. She could give master classes in piano, guitar and musical composition. You talked about her being able to do an octave with one hand; I'm sure she can do a tenth without any trouble. Chopin is one of her favorite composers and nearly all of his music requires a person to be able to reach a tenth. In fact, Chopin once said that if a person cannot reach a tenth, they shouldn't be playing the piano. I wouldn't be surprised if he intentionally put tenths in his music so that not everyone can play his music.

Your comment: All is said and done. Period. Thank you so much, once more. 🙏
5:00 Here Miyako's _quiet_ section starts. As you know yourself, playing _quietly_ but also _touching_ is the most diffcult task on any instrument. Everybody can _hit notes loudly_ ; but only very few people can _play quietly_ *and* touch souls. And: Miyako uses _quiet_ playing and even _silence_ to emphasize the loudness which then follows. (6:01 and following) *That* proves masterclass. Miyako _lives_ there. Mistress on the piano, mistress of composing (also of _complex_ arrangements). Asami (Lovebites singer) once went, " _Every_ band should have a Miyako." 🥲 Said with humour, I personally find it absolutely _unfair_ towards many other Metal bands, that Lovebites have Miyako in their line-up. That puts many other bands in their places, I suppose. 😉
I am so glad of any world class musician (no matter which genre), putting all his/her indivual excellence in their compositions and performance, to prove, what _music in general_ is capable of.

I was never a fan of the original song, in fact I don’t believe I had ever heard it until the Lovebites cover. That being said, it’s a case where I enjoy and appreciate her composition but just a bit sad for me it is a song I don’t enjoy. However the quiet middle section was absolutely stunning!!

Have you ever listened to the original song by Helloween? It's a German metal band from the 80s/90s. Hearing it might be interesting because Lovebites often gets compared to them. In fact, Helloween is regarded as one of the first and most influential power metal bands and like Lovebites, they have a classical touch in their compositions.

try the original song from Helloween then you can really appreciate her musical talent and maybe learn something about one of the most infuential power-metal bands....
as this is "just" a piano cover of a metal Song....

@@bobcieslinski i would recomend the album version for a first listening... their live versions are really good, but the album version shows the connection to Miyakos cover better...

Great review. Try Far Beyond the Sun Yngwie Malmsteen cover from the same album. It's an audio track but it is a great work. Since the original composition sounds so much like classic, it is as if Malmsteen covered on guitar a classic piano etude done by Miyako. ruclips.net/video/3RzRNijnaKA/видео.html
