I just love these ladies, and this is one of their best thrash metal songs (IMHO)! Midori always amazes me with her technical ability but Miyako touches my heartstrings with her blues influenced solos!! All 5 ladies really shine on this one and I'm really pleased that you recognize how special they all are! Great reaction Bob. Happy New Year. I like how you key in on certain elements and explain them for the lay person (not me lol). A couple of thoughts I have with this song. One is Haruna’s playing. I am really hooked on her abilities, her speed and precision at fast tempos. Have you checked out their most recent release, just last week, “Judgement Day?” It is with their new bassist Fami. Fami brings a whole new element to Lovebites with her unique style. It also has Haruna upping her level (if that’s at all possible) because, as you know, the drums and bass really need to lock in and be on the same page to make a band this successful. With Midori’s solo one part that always blows me away is the palm muting she does in the middle of. The speed is crazy. Also when she’s climbing higher and higher with double notes it reminds me of the guitar battle in the movie Crossroads. Check that out, the excerpt is on RUclips. Anyway, Happy New Year and look forward to a reaction to Judgement Day! Just hinting lol! Btw I have the same headphones as you. 😊

Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites. This is an iconic song by them with two excellent but different styles of guitar playing. Some people say that they’re breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. My next recommendations are “Shadowmaker”, “The Awakening/Hammer of wrath”, “Raise some hell”, “Don’t bite the dust”, “Scream for me”. All live.
@@bobcieslinski Fami has her own channel with 600k and more subscribers. There she is uploading bass covers. She start the channel when she was 16. Now she is 20. She is one of the most promising bass playing talents of her age.
Break The Wall is easily in my top 10 Lovebites songs but it is now bittersweet listening to it. This was the only song in which Miho and Miyako worked together in the composition. Miho had always composed with Mao (as have Asami and Midori), the "6th member" of the band. Mao is a keyboardist/composer who is one of the two producers of Lovebites and was part of a really good power metal band called Light Bringer. Miyako has never worked with Mao and has always composed alone except for Break The Wall. My understanding is that Miho had the foundation of the song completed but she knew it needed more. She decided to hand the song over to Miyako to finish. The slower section is pure Miyako while the thrash that comprises most of the song is pure Miho. I would imagine Miyako also sprinkled some things throughout such as her guitar that matched Asami's vocals that you mentioned. I am very happy that we have this one collaboration between these two great artists but I do wish we had gotten more. As others have mentioned, you need to hear the new song, Judgment Day, as soon as possible. It is the 5th collaboration between Asami and Mao and although the musicianship is superb, in my opinion, the song belongs to Asami. Her vocals are very strong throughout and absolutely breathtaking at the end.

The singer is Asami, who also the primary lyricist. Studied Ballet most of her life, but there isn't much call for 4'10" ballerinas. So she became atop flight singer.
I've said it before, I'll say it again and I will probably say it a million times more....Lovebtes, in my humble option, are the gold standard in metal music nowadays. And now with their new bass player, Fami, and listening to their new song, Judgement Day, they may have upped their game.

I see everyone has recommended their new song, and I agree with that recommendation, but I'd like to recommend another great Japanese band. They're called the Wagakki Band, and there's truly no one out there like them. The video I'm going to recommend is for "Homura + Akatsuki no Ito" from their first Japanese tour in 2015. Former bassist Miho wrote the foundation for my favourite Lovebites Thrash song, "Break The Wall", while Miyako then "added color" to the composition. Can't hear as well in this version but note how Haruna, during the verse, plays flurries of the bass drum. She is IMHO the more master of her instrument than the others. You have already done Swan Song which is a tour de force of hers, but check out Judgement Day
You are behind the curve, Lovebites just dropped they new MV "Judgement Day" with their new bassist, Fami!!! I suggest a Fami video first as an introduction. "Don't say Lazy" shows how talented she is, or "Alien Alien" live - makes it obvious why she was chosen as their bassist.
The most common degree of pitch bending on a guitar is a full tone. Many notes are pre-bent, or aren't picked until the bend is complete, so it just sounds like there is an up-scoop at the beginning of the note. The fretboards of different guitar makes have different lengths which determines the string tension. When he was with Cream in 1968 Eric Clapton would often stretch 2 full tones but when he switched from a Gibson guitar to a Fender, which has a longer string length, and higher tension, you didn't hear him do that anymore.

@@bobcieslinski Fami has her own channel with 600k and more subscribers. There she is uploading bass covers. She start the channel when she was 16. Now she is 20. She is one of the most promising bass playing talents of her age.
Break The Wall is easily in my top 10 Lovebites songs but it is now bittersweet listening to it. This was the only song in which Miho and Miyako worked together in the composition. Miho had always composed with Mao (as have Asami and Midori), the "6th member" of the band. Mao is a keyboardist/composer who is one of the two producers of Lovebites and was part of a really good power metal band called Light Bringer. Miyako has never worked with Mao and has always composed alone except for Break The Wall. My understanding is that Miho had the foundation of the song completed but she knew it needed more. She decided to hand the song over to Miyako to finish. The slower section is pure Miyako while the thrash that comprises most of the song is pure Miho. I would imagine Miyako also sprinkled some things throughout such as her guitar that matched Asami's vocals that you mentioned. I am very happy that we have this one collaboration between these two great artists but I do wish we had gotten more.
As others have mentioned, you need to hear the new song, Judgment Day, as soon as possible. It is the 5th collaboration between Asami and Mao and although the musicianship is superb, in my opinion, the song belongs to Asami. Her vocals are very strong throughout and absolutely breathtaking at the end.

Great selection Bob, can't go wrong with Break the Wall, terrific thrash metal song that sounds wonderful! Two brilliant, yet contrasting solos with a great bass transition to connect them. I dont know much about music theory so your comments are very helpful!! After leader, founder and bassist Miho left the band in 2021 mid-pandemic, Lovebites went into a hiatus of 1 year and have finally announced a new album for Feb and released a brand new song with the new bassist FAMI. Song is Judgement Day and it was worth the wait, the ladies are back in FULL POWER!!

They're called the Wagakki Band, and there's truly no one out there like them. The video I'm going to recommend is for "Homura + Akatsuki no Ito" from their first Japanese tour in 2015. This live video has been uploaded to a fan channel for around 2 years now and has over thirteen million views. I'd love to hear your take on Wagakki Band!

I’m with you on this one.
Former bassist Miho wrote the foundation for my favourite Lovebites Thrash song, "Break The Wall", while Miyako then "added color" to the composition. Miyako wrote the solo in the middle with Gary Moore in mind.

The most common degree of pitch bending on a guitar is a full tone. Many notes are pre-bent, or aren't picked until the bend is complete, so it just sounds like there is an up-scoop at the beginning of the note. The fretboards of different guitar makes have different lengths which determines the string tension. When he was with Cream in 1968 Eric Clapton would often stretch 2 full tones but when he switched from a Gibson guitar to a Fender, which has a longer string length, and higher tension, you didn't hear him do that anymore.
