RANT:
In my opinion Illidan should have played a vital part in defeating the Lich King back in Wotlk. This was HIS story in WC3, this was what he tried but ultimately failed to accomplish.
Blizzard did not do him justice with their p!ss poor writing. Not even back in TBC. They tried to remedy that in the "legion" wow expansion with some poor overall execution. Though we had some great cenematics like illidans sacrifice, i felt like it was too little too late...
if i could rewrite warcarft history, then back in TBC, We, as the players, should have rescued and recruted Illidan to help us fight back the lich king in Wotlk. Instead of this 'Tyrion Fording' character -paladin of the silver hand. Yes, he is mentioned in the Warcraft lore. But not even once was he mentioned in the Warcraft 3 RTS games. A weird fit for a hero, not even a major character in WC3. I just remember asking myself, "who tf is this guy..?" "never heared of him".
Instead Illidan should have been the one, who would help the players fight Arthas. And being the anti-hero that illidan is. He would do something "unforgivable" in the process. Something that would have had him escape us, and left us with a bittersweet ending, where he would accomplish his goal of,, not defeating Arthas,.. but stopping him and maybe imprisioning him. But at a great overall cost.
This would then also "save" Arthas as a major warcraft character from becomming yet another "finished job" by the players. And ultimately Arthas could be used later on, as a villain or in a good redemption story line.
I might make a "rewriting warcraft lore" video series later on, where i adress what i would have done differently, lore wise, in world of warcraft.

Considered that Illidan made more sacrifices then Malfurion, Tyrande and Cenarius combined.
and if it not been for the presumptions and projections of those claiming to put the world before their feelings , he would have spared it a lot of suffering having sought power not for himself but to strike at ice crown itself , the heart of the growing undead tide
also , hash tag sod all the silly ''realm of judgement'' and that crap in wow expansions turning the litch king into a pushover and hamfisting the wow universe into a lack luster ''abrahamic heaven and hell'' dynamic of where souls & spirits went when the flesh suits or such they resided in expired! ^^

From the moment I saw Illidan in warcraft 3 that was it... instantly he became my favorite character in all games, books , movies and so on...

In my opinion, Ilidan story is one of the best in fantasy literature, blizzard should have gave him more credit, he deserves a come back. He can easily replace the aspects.

As someone who didn't play Warcraft 3 but really enjoyed World of Warcraft Legion, I can say that this is a really good "catchup" from quotes and Scenes from the games that happened.
Illidan is still my favorite Character till this day, his story is just golden!

@@georgegorvaniagerge7077 hard not to come to hatred when his beloved and mentor abandoned him at stratholme, leaving him alone to make the hardest decision of all time. Arthas was 100% right to do what he did. The scourge has no cure, every single citizen in that city was undead or becoming undead and it wouldve added fuel to malganis army of the undead. If Uther supported his decision, then perhaps he'd have never turned into the monster he became.

Easily one of the best characters in WoW, plus one that has sacrificed so much without bothering about what others say, his ultimate goal is to defend his world. A true hero aside of Varian too.

Wow, very awesome edit dude. putting together all these scenes together and the music fit well also, Illidan is by far the best character I’ve resonated with within any story/game not just WoW. you did him justice.
I spent ages typing out a long nostalgic rambling post for youtube to not post it and lag out, that was frustrating but I’ll repost this.
I have the same burning thought to want to share how I would have rewritten the story for a more satisfying closure of a character or its archetype for example Garrosh, Thrall, Malfruion and Sylvanas to name a few. It's a Niche on RUclips I dont see anyone filling you could have hours of content weaving your own narrative if there's an audience for it or maybe it’s just something you need to get out of your head

Illidan sacrifices himself time after time and saves everything Malfurion would die for to protect and still Malfurion cries like a B*TCH because it was Illidan who saved the day.
Iliidan and arthas are pillars of wow with so much players who love them , if blizzard wish to success they need to bold both of these two
Although he saved everyone by making a huge sacrifice, he abandoned his own people and his brother and was accused and banished. He was imprisoned for 10,000 years, but he never betrayed and never loved forever.😢😢😢

Illidan got shafted so much, (fav character by far) I wished Blizz atleast gave us the ability with our characters to avenge him and kill Tyrande and Malf. (my DH esp, I wanted to avenge his sacrifices and those to betrayed him) to make up for their terrible writting =D loved the vid.

Illidan, Arthas and the dragon flights were all I really cared about in WoW. Once they depowered the aspects, I was done with Blizzard.

My best character in game , it is so unfair illy helped with loads of trouble in azeroth yet he was the prison his brother treated him like a serial killer and tyrande never returned his love ;/ even on the last message from illidan the comments from malfurion and tyrande is just comedy like really .. hes never coming back again yet neither tyrande or malfurion said anything good or caring

What's the difference between Illidan and Malfurion?
Malfurion sleeps and misses everything that's important and suffers for it, and illidan is hated by everyone sacrificing everything for the good of everyone else and yet, he is never rewarded, he is never appreciated, he is imprisoned, and even those that try to understand him, can't even begin to understand him.
This brings me to the question, "Is it better to be of inaction, or action if these are the results?"
People will die regardless of what action or inaction you take; you can only carry those dead bodies on your back as you continue moving or you will be consumed by their grasp.

Guys please READ the books and play the games Illidan was a villain, HIS name was "The Betrayer"! WoW:Legion was a redemption story for Illidan... REDEMPTION! The word has a very specific meaning. One does not to redeem themselves for doing good things! And yeah Illidan apposed the Legion but only AFTER he fail his task giving to him by Kil'Jaeden. His lust for power and to be exceptional drove him to the Legion in the first place
"The Betrayer" labeled by a one sided narrative from those that didn't want to listen to him.

What are you TALKING about... he did Betrayer them it's not one sided it follows Illidan too and we see his lust for power manifest, he only decided to fight against Sargeras' forces when he realised he failed and failures don't last long in the Legion! He recruited other Demons in similar situations and then decide to enslave a bunch of locals in outlands and allowed the Naga to destroy on of last habitable zones of Outland! Also Metzen CLEARLY stated that Legion was a REDEMPTION story for Illidan, so yes he was bad and then he redeemed himself in the end, but he was a Villain first, thats what redemption means

Eh, a lot of Illidan's later story was a retcon. In Warcraft 3 Illidan is consistently shown to be self-serving, someone who justifies his selfish decisions as being for the greater good. He didn't flee Azeroth for Outland to bide his time so he could strike back against the Legion, he fled because he feared Kil'Jaeden's wrath.
Don't get me wrong, I like the guy. He's a great character. But he's not the sacrificing hero he's often made out to be. He was often very selfish, made really bad decisions, and wasn't willing to explain his plans to anyone.

He was just a selfish power hungry mage who never thought or saw the consequences of his actions until too late, driven by jealousy and thirsting for a girl over 10.000 years.
How the hell people even think this slow talking, overly dramatic edgelord is anything but a synonym of failure is beyond me. Of course, maybe half the people posting are too young to realize the massive retcons and changes needed to make him seem redeemable. OR basement dwellers will always relate with a dark edgy almost anime-like "antihero" who doesn't get the girl, because they are "literally him".
Malfurion is better in almost every department, and the guy was just sleeping for thousands of years. Common.
Some of what ur saying is true, but its very unnuanced. Sure he is selfish and power hungry. But he also wants to end Azeroth's enemies. Though, its through any means necessary, which often backfires for him. But he is very capable!
@@shjelde660Illidan's original character and motives made sense. He was flawed and acted as a flawed person would, but also was not overwhelmingly tuned for max drama.
In warcraft 3, Illidan was portrayed as a power hungry warrior who craved magic and aimed to claim it, happily exclaiming that said goal was virtuous in nature (The death of Tichondruis, Attempt on the Lich King), but knowing that deep down he always wanted mainly to become powerful in magic.
This part of his character can be appreciated. It is relatable almost, and has interests as it is indeed a sort of grey to evil character, with some traits that can be considered good.
In Burning Crusade they just used him as a raid fodder, and barely mattered except being "the Lord of Outland". I liked the idea of him possibly going insane (like Malfurion quotes in Vanilla), but he aswell as his allies we're just wasted.
Im happy they brought him back since he had much unused potential. But dear God, Illidan in Legion and any media that came with it is just painfully stupid to watch. Every sentence he says is just bloated with dramatic pauses, far too much of an edgy tone, and just overwhelmingly "badass" to the point it looks like he's trying to act big all the time. It takes him like 5x times longer to say one thing than any other guy in a cinematic (except Khadgar maybe, he's into long pauses too).
And the fact that instead of using his flawed character, who was selfish but in his own twisted way wanted to claim power so he could feel the respect and adoration he felt he was due, the expansion had to retcon just about everything with him. Suddenly he's a goddamned crusader who is 27 steps ahead of everyone, everything he does is FOR THE GREATER good and we are all morons, and the fucking line about "WHAT HAVE YOU SACRIFICED" is pure cringe.
Illidan NEVER sacrificed anything. He was jailed because he commited a great crime out of pure selfishness (making a new Well of Eternity so he doesn't lose his magic), he immediately devoured the skull of Guldan to become powerful (not a "Sacrifice", Illidan always craved power), sought to kill the LK so Kil'Jaeden would grant him immense power, and subjugated Outland so he escapes the Demonlord's wrath after he lost against Arthas. Oh and Tyrande was never his, so he never sacrificed for love either. Maybe his eyes count? But again, he wanted to be granted great power and Magic (which he received), so again hardly a sacrifice.
They had to retcon just about anything to make this character seem like an ultimate good guy all along. I don't think they wrote him well at all in Legion, even though they had a LOT of potential with him. So I don't think he deserves this adoration.
I guess the warglaves look cool tho, he does get props for that. And his demon form looks cool too. He was kinda dope in WC3
