I'm a life long Halo fan, been playing since Halo: CE when I first got it as a kid in 2003. And been reading the books since 2006 when I got Halo: First Strike as a present. When Halo 5 first came out, I liked it a lot. I really enjoyed it! But then I read what everyone said online and I kind of felt the pressure to not like it anymore. But now today, I'm 26 years old and I look on this game fondly. I have some problems with it, sure. But watching you play this made we remember that I do like this one overall! ❤ Sanghelios is definitely a highlight of this game!
In a similar position, though I’ll always maintain huge issues with the story 4’s emotional weight and story telling, combined with 5’s gameplay would have been perfect modern Halo, and it hurts the communities reactions have made that impossible

ive been a halo fan since the original Halo came out and yeah this game gets A LOT of flack from long time fans, but the Sanghelios mission and the next one are definitely favorites of this game. I do love that you are enjoying this game, it's nice to hear new Halo fans having different opinions on the games and the characters and actually seeing you enjoy this game. Loving the playthroughs!!

I wish arbiter was displayed as the old elite form not the new one which is basically a clumsy brute, i know canonically he is the other phenotype we see in the original games but seeing him wear that beautiful armour in the cutscene added at the start and end of H2A is such a beautiful thing! Wish they kept his cape that he has in the comics with that Kaidon armour, simply beautiful!
"The Didact made it clear the Mantle was an Imperial peace, step out of line and suffer" One thing I've always enjoyed about this story is Chief basically rejecting the Mantle of Responsibility. After Halo 4 basically set it up that it was Mankinds destiny to assume the Mantle from the Forerunners, to have Chief go "No, this is wrong" is a great bit of character building, especially for someone whos formative years were spent in service to the UNSC.
If the forerunner-domain stuff sounds complicated it’s because it is. If you really want a deep dive into how it works after you finish the game, read Halo Epitaph. It does a better job at explaining it than Cortana does.
I get Arbiter is salty about ONI’s activities on Sangheilios, but what did he expect when he was conquering one human world after another. I like him, but he was a genocidal maniac just like every other Covenant commander.
Something that really cemented the hate this game gets is how the marketing was a total scam when it came to what the story was. Since you didn’t see theme like most of us did at the time, it makes sense you have a more positive outlook about the game. I myself don’t hate it, I’m just really dissatisfied with it

I can see what you mean about Locke. Halo 5 is my favorite Halo out of the list, but one of its only issues (IMO) is the fact that it relies on other media properties that go deeper into Locke's backstory for you to have a connection, and none of them were in previous games. In comparison to say Spider Man 2, you had Miles Morales introduced in Spider Man 1, have his own game in Miles Morales, and ultimately shared the spotlight in Spider Man 2. Now there was still that classic backlash from the fanbase, so you're never going to get universal approval, but you would have a better chance of a larger portion of the fanbase being invested in Locke's story. But the fact that you're giving Locke a chance and not writing him off immediately for not being Master Chief just illustrates your character and why I joined as a member. Keep up the fight Spartan!
They should so make a side story game for halo that’s a open world set in Sanghelios, where you are a elite and are able to explore Sanghelios and start like a tribe and maybe make it like Mordor shadow of war where you fight other elite tribes, and advance in technology to get like elite phantoms and wraiths and stuff that would be so awesome, and then add like a brute invasion as a dlc haha
Halo 5 is like the closest thing to actually playing one of the novels, which is what I love about it. Shame to think we might never get anything like it again. Like, is it a little messy, sure. But it’s MGS4-caliber wish fulfillment. The opening Blue Team mission alone, just a day on the job with them - that was something I’d been playing in my head for at least twelve years when this game came out. Sanghelios, too. The game’s just this buffet of your own toybox imagination. Why shouldn’t Buck meet The Arbiter, sure. Why shouldn’t Cortana try on the Librarian’s crown. What’s the worst that could happen.

I always find it interesting that Halo 5 for all its faults (mostly storywise) that its almost always the die hard fans (myself included) who hate it, but its the more casual fans who seem to enjoy it.
Far from the Truth, there are die hard fans like myself that started playing Halo when it came out on the Xbox, and my favorite to this day is Halo 5. The problem was that the loudness of those die hard fans who hated Halo 5 made it uncomfortable for the die hard fans who loved Halo 5 to talk about it. That's why you see more die hard fans who enjoy it talk about it on more modern playbacks because it's more likely modern fans don't carry the same negativity.
The walking missions and art direction was my only problem with this game. Good grasp of the story arch within the game. Keep going. Infinite is better even.
One of the complaints is when meeting arbiter after so long, why can’t you do so with master chief? Why Locke. On a story point it’s understandable but overall there is no real attachment to Locke as a character and people would have preferred having Chief meet him again. Everyone agrees that the art can be beautiful all around (not the armors) but the story is a convoluted mess
That didn't make sense from a gameplay standpoint. The entire purpose was to have one mission for team osirius and one mission for team blue. They clearly explained why Team Osirus needed to go to Saghelios and it makes perfect sense story wise. So, it's far from a convoluted mess, it's just some people prefer for Master Chief to meet the Arbiter even though Master Chief already met the Arbiter before. That just speaks more towards the players issue with Locke than the actual story itself. I loved the fact we saw Locke interact with the Arbiter.

I get that people say we don’t really get motives to attach to Osiris as a whole, but to be fair this was their introduction. People just didn’t want to give them a chance and that’s the issue

As someone that despises this campaign and probably wont play it again, I'll always fondly remember sanghellios.
