"Well, I've been kicked by the wind....Robbed by the sleet, Had my head stoved in....But I'm still on my feet, And I'm....Willin" Lowell George, another great artist taken too soon. 🎸 R.I.P. 🙏
Great to see a shout-out for Little Feat. I regard Sailin' Shoes as one of the finest albums of the 70's. Credit due also to Richie Hayward and his sophisticated understanding of rhythm - one of the key characteristics of their music.
As teenagers in the 70s we went to concerts like people go to the movies, we would go see national artists nearly every night of the week, and I saw all the big names, including Zepplin. But I remember being extra excited to go see Little Feat at the Uptown theater. There really was something special and different about that band. I only got to see them one time, while George was still alive, and that concert was one of my favorites of all time.
I submit Los Lobos as the best American band. ...and it's the same 5 guys who have stayed together since they met in H.S. in the late 1960's. Some of their tunes are in Spanish. Indeed, another favorite US band with a Tex-Mex flavor; The Trashmen. Their only hit was 'Surfin Bird' but their album is raw R&R. I've performed Little Feat's 'WILLIN' which is always a crowd-please, and the chorus is great for sing-alongs.
It was sometime in the 70's and a dude, Tim said at break time "smoke and lets hear Little Feat " . I was cool but thought HUH? Anyway left the construction site , got clued in nice buzz , music made me listen . thks Tim .
A quick story. We had gone to the Forum in Los Angeles to see Little Feat with Lowell George, opening for Fleetwood Mac. When Feat came on, you could tell by their reception that there were maybe 200 Little Feat fans in the audience. When they finished their set, there were 17,000 new Little Feat fans, on their feet, going absolutely apeshit.
Yep--Feats have never failed me. One of the most iconic yet underappreciated (well, not by those who know better, just the fickle and uninitiated) bands ever. Why'd you have to leave us so soon, Lowell?! At least your legacy lives on and continues to inspire.
One of my favorite (yet obscure) Brit bands is Bloodwyn Pig. I think they only had one album, around 1970. They weren't famous, but were great musicians. The sax player could play 2 saxes, doing harmonies, concurrently.
Saw Lowell George play as a member of the Mothers at the Shrine in LA ; he was introduced to Frank by his long-time friend and long-time/original Mothers bass player Roy Estrada. Lowell was with the Mothers less than a year, leaving with Estrada to form Little Feat, with Payne and Richie Hayward as well... Estrada quit in '72 to play with Beefheart; and Kenny Gradney replaced him in Little Feat. I saw both iterations of the band multiple times into the 70's. Unfortunately, Roy is presently in prison in Texas, for sexual abuse of a minor; most likely he'll die there... and the reason he is rarely mentioned when Little Feat is profiled.
Juan, let me guess, you're a gigging musician in his 70's. So am I. My first blues guitar gig, with a Strat, was in a smokey little bar in Madrid Spain in 1967 when I was 15. I should/could have gone professional, like every one of the guys who have been in the half dozen bands I've formed (mostly in Wash DC area), but in 1972, age 20, I opted to join a rural yogi community in northern CA. Realistically, if I'd pursued music in the 1970's I had a 50/50 chance of dying before the 80's. Lines of coke were at every party, and I wasn't shy about indulging. As it is, I'm 72, fit as a fiddle, and playing music like it's going out of style.
All of this AI crap is eroding reality, true or not. praising Little Feet while talking over their music. the miss pronunciations no punctuation is maddening
I have this thing, as of late with LZ: I've loved their music for over 40 years, got all their studio albums, live albums and even a considerable amount of bootlegs... around 6 or so. I fkn love them. With the years, I've learnt to appreciate more and more the figure of J.P Jones, I think he was the true musical, artistic and production engine and genius behind the curtains. And, second, as much love as I still have and will always have... I've grown some... lets say ressistance to the fact they ripped off so many black blues musicians, as well as other fellow songwriters, musicians, bands etc... having to settle a considerable amount of lawsuits for copyright and intelectual propperty, royalties etc..., so... mehh that shit dont rock dude, it aint cool. Still love em and always will, that wonr change... but, they've sure fallen a little in my appreciation scale, when compared lets say, to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Thin Lizzy, Jimi Hendrix or whatever other awesome band around that time when they were doing their thing. And this is a fact for me. Cheers
I agree; Lowell George had the right idea, but his own bad habits - not personal demons - killed him. On the US West Coast of the 1960s, downers were a favorite drug(along with reefer, which was popular everywhere) and George liked Quaaludes and Twinkies, and he ended up lazy and sedentary. This made him late for rehearsals and gigs, something Zappa was notoriously impatient with. Lowell wore those white painter's overalls because trying to wear regular pants with a belt to a gig made him short of breath, a bad thing for a dynamic singer like him. When he died suddenly of a heart attack, his wife had to call Billy Payne, the organized and together senior member of the group, who wasn't surprised to discover that Lowell George had no life insurance and had made no arrangements to care for his young family. Billy did the necessary chores and organized benefit shows - Lowell George was a beloved character in the Southern California music scene - for George's family. Lowell was just what was needed to get guitar players past the Duane Allman plateau for slide guitar, which included most of the classic rock players; Duane was just an amazing talent. Lowell George knew the secret of using his great band to kick his ass for songwriting; you'll find that most great slide players don't MOSTLY play slide, but they are the main songwriters or arrangers and dominate the production side of the guitar work. Lowell George was a great singer, capable of great dynamics and varying styles.. His solo album("Thank, I'll Eat It Here") is a singer's album, and mostly short of guitar histrionics - which were coming into fashion at that time. He was smart to choose to concentrate on singing; and EVERYONE wishes he had conquered his eating disorder.
Little Feat America’s best band? May be Page’s opinion but certainly not America’s. Boston, Grand Funk Railroad, Aerosmith, Van Halen and the Eagles could pack stadiums! Little Feat not so much. Theaters maybe. Lynyrd Skynyrd could pull a bigger crowd than Little Feat.
Well many people who are musicians themselves consider LF in the top 5 American bands easily. Much better than Aerosmith, GFR, Boston, etc. pulling an audience doesn’t mean quality necessarily. For example , Abba. Very popular but not a great band.
@: Abba was and still is very popular, for a reason! They were very good at what the do. One of the biggest selling bands of all time album wise. Millions of fans world wide. Granted that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But facts and logic refute it! If Abba was not very good, they wouldn’t have had sell out concerts and never sold as many records as the have. They are within the top five bands in record sells. How many albums has Little Feat sold? I willing to bet my paycheck against yours that it’s not close to ABBA’s. We can google it.
So let's get this straight. Page really admired bands and musicians that pushed the boundaries and did something different. Yet didn't admire Sabbath and Purple. Makes no sense.
@charlesheck6812 Unfortunately you don't know what you're talking about. Zeppelin completely disregard Sabbath and Purple. It's a well known fact. Zeppelin regarded them both as second rate bands.
i’ve been following Zep since their first album… It is well known by Zeppelin fans that Page appreciated little feet as did the rest of the Zepplin guys
Little feat is a boredom. They doesnt rock anyway. They could bore , to a patient saint indeed. Page is absolutely Crazy if he really said that madness. MC5 or Stooges or Lynyrd Skynyrd and so much others are better bands than Little Feat , five miles away, doubtless. Little George plays incredible good his guitar, but his music is unbearable for a rocker. In fact it is a nighmare. The only thing I can think of is the similar shit from Clash reggae. Or the Red Hod Chilli Peppers hip hop crap.Their rhythmic patterns are a nightmare. If Keith Moon heard them, he would have epilepsy. And , of course, James Brown would be in disgust. Lemmy falls into a persistent coma. Chuck would run away. Elvis would go faster than a roadrunner .Haggard headed for oklahoma. I will tell more than this. If Jimmy Page had followed that rhythmic patterns with Zeppelin they hadn't been nothing in rock music. In that weird vein also Clapton said that The Band are great and it is absolutely false. The Band are an absolute nonsense and pure boredom. At least , Keith currently has recognized it. The Band : What a cold and unpalatable stir fry!!! Page choose Litte Feat and Clapton the Band. Incredible strange taste. Beck choose currently Prince. Another gem. Richards has already put him in his place. Another rock fake. Apparently Richards has better taste than all the British axemen.

From Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah. Lowell George was THE TOPS!
Been a fan of Zeppelin and Little Feat since the 70's.
Your' e not alone. 😄
Little Feat was a phenomenal band.
I'm grateful to have seen them live.
Great to see a shout-out for Little Feat. I regard Sailin' Shoes as one of the finest albums of the 70's. Credit due also to Richie Hayward and his sophisticated understanding of rhythm - one of the key characteristics of their music.
"Dixie Chicken" isn't too shabby either! 👍
As teenagers in the 70s we went to concerts like people go to the movies, we would go see national artists nearly every night of the week, and I saw all the big names, including Zepplin. "I believe every guitar player has something unique about their playing". Well said Mr. Page.

Love me some Teensy Feat! George was a force of nature! So glad I got to see the "Waiting for Columbus" tour with Tower of Power!
It was sometime in the 70's and a dude, Tim said at break time "smoke and lets hear Little Feat " . I was cool but thought HUH? Anyway left the construction site , got clued in nice buzz , music made me listen . thks Tim .
Waiting for Columbus- one of the greatest live albums of all time
Yep!
Mostly overdubbed in the studio later but a great record nonetheless.

happened over & over ... main acts all learned to not let LF open for them.
their live shows (as on WFC) w/ Tower of Power were incredible... clear, hard & tight.

"Easy to Slip" is the song that really got me hooked on Little Feat. But I can listen to all of their songs all day sometimes.
"Waiting for Columbus" is by far my favorite live rock album ever. Every musician is a monster in Little Feat.
Feats Don't Fail Me Now !❤🎉

Little Feat was never a band I enjoyed but have noticed they have extremely loyal fans.
Ha ha Lowell George, playing guitar and singing with a cig in his mouth! classic!
How Feat are not in the RRHOF is headscratching.
"I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 12 years old" Bonnie Raitt
All of this AI crap is eroding reality, true or not. praising Little Feet while talking over their music. the miss pronunciations no punctuation is maddening
Says the guy who thinks the band name is Little Feet.
Got me an AI type mistake lol @@discopants68
Little Feet was known for playing funk music and sole music with a sort of moving rock old Billie type of glamour and style
wow.....Lowell George and Clarence White.......so cool

Great to see a shout out to Alberta's own Amos Garrett.
CLAPTON JAMMED WITH LITTLE FEAT AT PINE KNOB
The Stones went to see Little Feat.
They all recognised The Guvnors.....❤
Sloppy Joe playing, but some of the best rock composing brilliance ever.
Jimmy and I happen to share similar views of Little Feat...
It was clearly no mean feat for a group like Little Feat to gain Jimmy's admiration and respect.
Stones as well. Seems every serious player respects the Feat except R&R HALL OF FAME.
That could change, @billalbritton4972 . They let in Steely Dan and Chicago 15 years apart from each other.
Jimmy Paige knows his onions. Still, to not get the purity of Glen Campbell is notable
I can’t believe you yipped over the whole slide guitar and singing of Little Feet.

It's a shame Jimmy either ran out of musical ideas or just has nothing to say. He's been musically impotent for decades.
Let me guess....Grand Funk Railroad ?
don’t you just love it when people answer a post or ask a question without listening or reading first?
Begs the question: What was Jimmy's problem with Frank Zappa?
beggarly question
That one for me is a “slam dunk”, it’s Aerosmith then Van Halen!!!
hey Jimmy who's your favorite mastering engineer for AAA vinyl besides yourself? try using him to reissue Zeps catalog AAA 45 rpm
Amos Garrett is playing a Tele not a Les Paul ;)

The Shaggs, without a doubt.
No mention of Captain Beefheart????
Little Feat wa s easily my favorite live band during the70s. When I learned of Powell's .death I wept.
Powell?
For me it's underwhelming that he picked Little Feat. There were lots of bands as good or better than them

i’ve been following Zep since their first album… It is well known by Zeppelin fans that Page appreciated little feet as did the rest of the Zepplin guys
@@charlesheck6812 Sweet. I've never heard this before after following them for decades and reading all up where they nicked their material from, lol.
Is it Spirit?
Sorry... it's Grand Funk :)
Lowell -damned spell check!
Doors easily the best
