The def attorney in these obvious cases are there to ensure the guilty person's rights were protected and holds the state up to providing fair evidence in the case. They know he was guilty, even a blind man could see through a defense where they put the blame on the gf. The whole thing was very disturbing and I'm glad he is getting a just sentence.

Well she would have had she not turned states evidence to avoid the death penalty. They would not have been able to get Finnegan without her and he was the single cause of the start of the event. Rebecca was a pathetic figure who people took advantage of but who also would do ANYTHING to get love and approval (including all the kinky stuff). Her weakness led her into a horrific situation from which there was no end but prison. The kidnapping and torture was Sean's sick fantasy.
I live in Knoxville and it IS a beautiful day.....justice is served. (I think Judge Ash was the ideal judge for this heinous case. The gravity of the death penalty was felt by the Judge.)
It’s hard to know how much was the Stockholm syndrome. It is possible to become enslaved by an abuser to the point of having no reason. To still love him says a lot about the dynamics. He ruled with violence inflicting pain and fear. We’ll never know how badly she was controlled because she wasn’t studied enough. She was much younger and also very suggestible and vulnerable. I’m not making excuses for her. But there have been many violently sexually abused victims who have ended up having a very sick attachment to their abuser. The abuser can actually make the abused believe that they enjoy the abuse. Very sick but also very true and real.

She did finally look for help. If you’re in a mutually sadistic relationship you’d likely just stay quiet and stay there for more. AND she saved the family a torturous trial, in that respect. IF he had done similar rather than DENY.. DECEIVE..DIVERT..then DENY some more......then he could have argued for the same. He left himself with nowhere to go!
I can’t see how they can give him the death penalty when they cut the deal with the girlfriend. I feel they both deserve the death penalty or minimum life in prison with no hope of parole if any kind. I am surprised the defense didn’t hammer her a bit harder the stand.

I looked back at the initial court appearance 4 years ago….He subtly shakes his head no when she iterates some of those things. She had every chance to release the woman or seek help. I think she should not have been given a deal and gotten death. My feelings are he was trying to make Rebecca happy, kidnapped Jennifer for RD and RD killed Jennifer. Sean covered it up.
