I’m so annoyed with people complaining about Dany’s arc. Her ending is about the only one that makes sense and they were certain clues that definitely showed her arrogance and thirst for power had grown.
Power is the root of all evil. Power corrupts all. Like these are typical story tropes for a reason, Dany didn’t need more fleshing out for being mad, especially when her dad was the mad king (no doubt some form of bipolar disorder).
But Jon, he was absolutely robbed. You don’t build a character arc to make him Azor Ahai, resurrect him like he’s some god like figure with some long game purpose, add all of these clues just to later confirm he is indeed the true heir to the iron throne, just to completely plow through all of that and dismantle and erase his character development, sending him back over the wall, where he began as an insecure, self deprecating “bastard.”

I WANTED THAT. I wanted everyone at winterfell to either die or retreat into hiding. We’d lose important characters like Jorah Mormont and Berix Dondarion and Tormund, for sure but we’d GAIN a better story with higher stakes when both the dead AND Daenerys want to sack Kings Landing and then you could have had Cersei finally have a use for the wildfire, scarce as it was after she blew up the sept of Baelor. I think if only they decided to make a “Zombie” apocalypse style for the 8th season and then did a 9th season we could finally see characters like Jaime get redeemed, Cersei could even get redeemed or kill herself, Danearys could slowly lose her mind as time went on leading to Jon having to sacrifice her for the good fo the realm, and then instead of throwing Jon in prison we coule have seen Jon become the king of the seven kingdoms and lead the people out of darkness but also give the crown to bran knowing he’ll be well guarded as he retreated to the north for the rest of his days. Sansa could have had many kore good moments in the end commanding her forces, Arya could still have played a part in killing the Night King, or maybe she and Jon could have done it together. I could think of many great possible outcomes this show potentially had.

What irritates me most about that one is that there was literally NO NEED for Tormund's praising of Jon in that scene to have anything whatsoever to do with the dragon riding! Like... Jon had genuinely done tons of amazing sh*t that was all his own, and Tormund absolutely would have gushed about him that way no matter what, so why focus it around the ONE thing that was first and foremost Daenerys' thing!? What, like it would be too much of a stretch to suggest that Dany could start feeling jealous and insecure about Jon being loved based on his actual, well-earned merit?
All it did to have it be about the dragon riding was give credence to the Dany fans who like to claim that "Jon got all the credit and did nothing while Dany did everything"- which simply isn't the case whatsoever, so why suddenly MAKE it the case as if Tormund couldn't have far more realistically just gushed about everything Jon had done for the North and the Free Folk? And yes, it also would have made a lot more sense anyway given that Tormund had in fact ridden on Drogon before himself.

HOW TO HATE D&D/SEASON 8 EVEN MORE:
1.) Make the issue of Jon Snow's parentage -- central to the story for seven seasons -- meaningless.
2.) Make prophecies about Jon Snow being the "Prince Who Was Promised" or "Azor Ahai" meaningless.
3.) Make Jon Snow an unimportant background character who says "...but she's my queen" and "I don't want it."
4.) Make Dany go from valiant hero to mad queen over the course of one episode.
5.) Toss aside years of character building for no actual payoff (we're looking at Jaime, Sansa, Tyrion, Bran, etc.).
6.) Make Greyworm into, well, a whiny dimwit.
7.) Fundamentally change Bran's personality and character from Season 6 to Season 7 and then make him the King in Season 8.
8.) Make the "Long Night" last, well, a single night (or, at best, the amount of time that it takes to travel from the Wall to Winterfell).
9.) Turn the Golden Company into meaningless dragon fodder.
10.) Turn Euron Greyjoy into a stupid madman.
11.) Kill off a dragon by somehow not being able to see a ship or flying arrows. The next battle, have the dragon avoid thousands of flying arrows.

@Dillon notmylastname The worst part of that scene is they could have made it actually make sense by just using Bran. Bran follows Jon's crew Warging a raven, he sees that shit is quickly heading sideways. He then goes to the Weirwood in Winterfell and sits where Ned sat. He then Wargs Rhaegal in order to save Jon. Dany sees Rhaegal going awol or making some pre existing crys for help while flying away. (maybe akin to the noises Drogon was making when Dany handed him over to the slavers in Astapor) Dany then sees the army of the dead, saves Jon's crew, and the wight gets taken.
But nope what we get is a bunch of scenes that completely ruins any suspensions of disbelief. It's so clear that they only did a rough draft of the later seasons and spent the rest of their time just fucking around, letting other talented members of the crew to salvage the wreckage.

The next episode the entire fleet cant hit 1 dragon, that 1 dragon proceeds to destroy all of kings landing alone. Why did Daenarys even need the north? At the start of s7 she had 3 dragons and a bigger army. Why in s6 did jon just stand there while cavalry charged him? Why did the show try and make us think Sansa and Arya would ever betray each other? How does the Iron Fleet teleport from Kings Landing to Casterly Rock to Dorne to Kingslanding and then to Highgarden? Why is the show about massive battles and set pieces in the last 4 seasons instead of being a political character driven drama. Why did characters all start getting plot armor? It f's up the entire story if you change things based on the readers' theories, or even if you just foreshadow something multiple times (in a book that isn't a part of a series) and then do the opposite of what you foreshadowed at the end of the book. This also applies to writing movie and television scripts. Don't foreshadow something over the course of a movie or tv series and then not pay that off.

None of those actions sound like the actions of a mad man. They sound like the actions of a duty bound first born son doing what he could with what he had to reunite his family and perhaps gain vengeance against the Lannisters aka the family that really helped make this mess. TV Arya? Yeah she was going insane when she kept reciting the name of everyone she wanted to kill. No argument there.
