A little Japanese goes a long way. For the next video, I will finally level up and introduce advanced Japanese with another RUclips friend. -Anming
I have been to Japan and it is such a wonderful, inspiring and organized country. The people are also polite and disciplined. My only wish is for it to open up a little more and export its values and soft power abroad. The world can learn a lot from therm. The Olympics was a great opportunity for that and I hope more is done in the future.

@@OrientalPearl You saying you learned Japanese in bars reminded me of a funny author bio in a comedy book about Japan. @@SarthorS This is a common problem for all language learners when they learn from their foreign spouse. It's usually just cute. I started learning Japanese last year and find it so insanely difficult, but when I see the fun you have with people it makes me keen to study hard and hopefully get to your level.
I had trouble with that, myself. I wrote something like "旅行中のアメリカ人 話しかけてください" (traveling American - please talk to me) on a sign and stood near a train station building exit (and sat in a bar, and I did that a few other places, too) and got a few brief conversations. One time, some group of four Japanese guys that seemed just a li'l suspicious stuck 1000 yen into my backpack when I wouldn't accept it from them, after they bought me a beer and おつまみ (snacks that go well with drinks). :P

I found people pretty friendly in the US, to be honest, although that might be because I have a very obvious British accent and it makes things like asking for information about the local area easily understandable behavior.

I literally just watched Kelly for the first time right before going to your channel's video section and selecting this particular video not knowing she was in this one as well! Nice coincidence!
That was wholesome. Such nice people. My dad went to Japan once (I think it was Kyoto) and he said that the Japanese were one of the nicest people he met. They tried their best to assist him even though there's a language barrier. But Tokyo though, not really he said, maybe because people were busy since it was the main city. So it's quite understandable.
Japanese people are much more friendly with foreigners, but they kind of “underestimate” them in a lot of ways. e.g. If you’re working there as a foreigner they won’t turn to you for help.
Super nice voice. I worked for 3 years learning Japanese in a company when i was about 35 years old and i speak it off and on, but it's so deep and detailled you have to keep practising always
Oh wow! You know Mrs. Morita! That's funny. Your channels are the only 2 "Americans living abroad" channels that I follow. Another fun video, Anming! Thanks for taking me around town.
Lol. I just have to laugh because this made me so happy at the amazing mix of cultures this video have. An American girl who studied in China now living and studying in Japan having a good time and posting videos in RUclips that have reggaetón music as background music for transitions. Amazingly cool! Keep up the good work!
Oriental Pearl sounds correct to me, but hey, there’s always insecure Americans who grew up without a culture that usually cling on to other cultures easily due to insecurity. Can’t forget how they love the attention they get when speaking another language. When other immigrants in The US are expected to speak at a native level, and even then would never get the recognition. You have to admit, it’s pretty ridiculous.
I don't even know these people and I'd love to hang out with them. Teach me things, me teach them things, learn, have a great time. That girl in the middle seems like a lot of fun to hang out with! But I understood so much of what you said in this video, holy moly! Really proud of myself now
I'm so glad to hear that. i try to keep the content simple 1) because subtitles are time consuming 2) I want viewers to understand some of the conversation.
Great advice! I need to approach people more, most of my Japanese friends initiated conversation with me... at izakayas 🍻. Starting with basic phrases/pronunciation then moving to particle usage/sentence structure worked well for me (for three years I could only read Roumaji, but illiteracy caught up to me after moving to Japan... "Osusume onegaishimasu" every time I couldn't read a menu got old fast)
@Tommo Ash - the best way to begin talking to strangers is just simply ask for the time or directions. Sometimes, simple questions lead to longer conversations. Asking for the time, helps you get used to approaching strangers. Once you're comfortable with asking for the time, then try to start a conversation about something you've noticed from the person telling you the time. Maybe, ask where they got the nice watch or ask them how they like their smartphone.

I love the ‘not so subtle’ difference in your two answers to the question why you’re in Japan.
Ha ha, both are true though!
I literally just watched Kelly for the first time right before going to your channel's video section and selecting this particular video not knowing she was in this one as well! Nice coincidence!
That's quite a coincidence. I think RUclips has linked out channels together.
he doesn't look like he will ghost you, but who knows XD
The funny thing is that I saw the RUclipsr who ghosted me when I went to Yokohama. He was filming a video with someone else. It was a little tense.
This is very encouraging especially me self learning Japanese and hopefully communicating better on my next trip. 👍🏻
Him: What do you like about japan? Anime?
Me: anime and the whole country 😁👍. Including food, clothes, etc.
Oh wow! You know Mrs. Morita! That's funny. Your channels are the only 2 "Americans living abroad" channels that I follow. Another fun video, Anming! Thanks for taking me around town.
Yes indeed, we are from the same hometown and grew up together in Michigan.
Looks like the RUclipsr community in Japan is quite small, you guys know almost everyone and seem to get along pretty well, that’s nice! 😊
I've known Kelly since Jr. High. I don't know any other well-known RUclipsrs in Japan.
@@OrientalPearl You should do something with Gimmeabreakman. He's funny. And Tomoko as well. :)
See, you can make lots of friends this way because you are amazing person and full of good positive energy !
Wow, thank you!
Who else like Anming's "aaaaaaa" sound imitation? 😂🤣
U mean ehhhhhhhhhhhhh?
Eeehhhh?
Lol. I just have to laugh because this made me so happy at the amazing mix of cultures this video have. An American girl who studied in China now living and studying in Japan having a good time and posting videos in RUclips that have reggaetón music as background music for transitions. Amazingly cool! Keep up the good work!
“Japanese Girl speaking fluent English shocking strangers in New York!”
Wrong, Japanese girl speaking Russian in Moscow would be so much cooler
Oriental Pearl sounds correct to me, but hey, there’s always insecure Americans who grew up without a culture that usually cling on to other cultures easily due to insecurity. Can’t forget how they love the attention they get when speaking another language. When other immigrants in The US are expected to speak at a native level, and even then would never get the recognition. You have to admit, it’s pretty ridiculous.
@@OrientalPearl Pochemu tak?
@@frankjovovich3714 that's me , I fear people noticing my accent while speaking [English] more than speaking the language itself 😔
@@appleslover Noo dont be scared. If english is not your first language then its natural that you'll have an accent.
Amazing how your videos make me smile. Thank you!
Glad you like them! I want to make you smile more.
I don't even know these people and I'd love to hang out with them. Teach me things, me teach them things, learn, have a great time. That girl in the middle seems like a lot of fun to hang out with! And the other guys seem really cool too! I love how they are just chilling and playing beyblade basically. Such an authentic video!
Thank you so much!
@@OrientalPearl No problem! I don't need to tell you, but keep up the great work! Your videos are extremely helpful.
Thank you for your videos. I always wanted to visit Japan, but I now know that will never happen. Thank you, your videos make me smile.
Wow that RUclipsr dude was really friendly, your conversation put a smile on my face hahaha anyways, your videos are awesome and an insiparation for myself. This year I plan to take the JLPT N3 (passed N5 in 2017 and N4 in 2018), but in my country the virus situation is critical so I hope that the exam won't be postoponed to next year. In any case, thank you for the wonderful video!
I'm sorry to hear that the test is delayed. I hope that you can use this extra time to prepare.
Aim for the N2 !
Whats his channel?
how long have you been learning japanese?
@@arigabou I started on mid 2016 but it was by myself and I was busy with some exame, so I really started to seriously study on 2017. I tried to take the jlpt on every year since then, passed N5 and N4 but failed N3 last year. If the circunstances improve, this year I will pass N3 for sure since I got more time to study.
This video was so cool to watch! Definitely made me motivated to learn Japanese 😄
I'm so glad!
What’s it like to watch anime without subtitles
Whoa...
The people are so nice and friendly that is one of the reasons why i love japan and i want to live in it
the charisma of language learning is talking to people.
This is so cool! Last semester I took a Japanese class at uni for beginners and I although I can grasp languages and their structure quite easily, I always thought that what I learned in this class wasn't a lot.
Beyond your language ability the reason you connect so well is you are nice and natural.
woah the stone spinning activity in the beginning seems a lot of fun.
Where does the string attach to the stone? Does it have grooves for the string?
Its a top, not a stone
Honestly so obsessed with your videos! I rarely subscribe to new channels but your videos are so refreshing and entertaining. Much love 💜
Thank you so much!! I'm glad to be one of the lucky few that gets a sub from you!
I love the way u approach them!
I could never 😂😂😂
@Tommo Ash - the best way to begin talking to strangers is just simply ask for the time or directions.
Connecting with people around the world sounds actually exciting!
How you'd think you would sound like speaking Japanese:
You actually speaking it: sugoi.
I love your personality. You're so friendly and approachable
3:36 I love the name Ryuji! I have a special connection to it because of Persona 5, one of my favorite characters.
You always make it look so easy.
It takes the pressure off...
It really inspires me a lot 🙏🙇♀️
If I get low when learning a new language I can always check your videos and boost myself 😇🙏.
Thanks Anming 🥰 😍
🙏🙇♀️ありがとうございました 🙇♀️🙏
Stay safe and keep inspiring more people. 😇🥰🙏
Even if you make some mistakes that's the best way to learn!
Thats very easy japanese
me : NANI!!!
lol 😀
@@OrientalPearl thanks for the heart i just finished learning hiragana and katakana hope i can reach near your level😊😊😊
She’s no wrong tho
This was the video that inspired me to start learning this beautiful language. Since February 2 2021 i been studying till this day. I understood some of it without reading the subtitles now. I will always remember that late night i bumped into this video and told myself "you know what im learning some Japanese tomorrow ". and for this video i wanna say ありがとうございます🙂
Wow, I’m so happy that this video had such a positive impact on you! Keep up the good work!
I can see where the idea for beyblade came from
Thank you for the wonderful content. You dont know how much I enjoy watching your videos. I'm stuck in hospital with my newborn and tour videos entertain and relax me ❤.
I;m so happy to hear that. I'm releasing a new video in 30 minutes.
Always wanted to go to Japan, now I'm most definitely going and finding people to beyblade with lmao
they are so kind 🥺
0:29 she was like questioning her life choices
I especially loved your interaction with Japanese people. Would like to see more of that and also their amazement when you spoke Chinese and switching Japanese in between. That's so cool.
There will be a lot more to come!!
Oh hey I know enough Japanese to hold a basic conversation it turns out. I know my mind would just blank the moment I tried though 😂
Then try try try again. :)
That happens to me when practicing with my tutor 😂😂🥺🥺
Good for you! Very cool and much appreciated. I was stationed there in the '80s.... married my wife from there 30 years ago... but I did not learn Japanese at all... maybe 5% of the skill that you have... maybe. Thank you for making such a good impression and representing us 'gaijin' so well.
It's never too late to learn!
So that’s why my food came 10 minutes late😭
He seemed really cool, I was like oh no another creep, but he seemed like a chill dude. Would like to see vids with you both 😊
More to come! I'm going to be introducing another friend in a video this coming week.
Great video! It shows that the only way to learn a language is to speak it.
Actually I was introduced to Kelly's channel before getting on to this channel. I'm happy to know that you both are friends
RUclips seems to have linked our channels together even before this video was made.
