I think she was trying to explain to Pearl that, the Ainu people were the tribal people, and so she did a "chicken dance" which they used to do. But... the guy from the shop... was kind of wanted to invite her into the museum or shop, but she was being curt, and said "if you invite me into your shop, I will do the chicken dance"... And he said "this is not what I mean (I just want you to buy the items)"... LOL.... Eccentric !
I can confirm that Japanese elderly feel curious about foreigners! I traveled to Japan on 2019 and I was trying to figure out how to use Tokyo's subway; then, an old woman approached to me and helped me understand how subway works, and suddenly she started to speak in spanish! I'm from México and absolutely fell in love with the gesture of that lady
Yes I was looking for this! I used to live in an area of England with a large Nepali population as it was near one of the main Army training bases. I used to look after the Gurkhas’ wives in the hospital and they were always very respectful and honestly my favourite patients to look after. Some of my colleagues were Nepali as well and they went back home with another colleague to show her their country and she was amazed. I honestly miss them (and the food! Bonus of having Nepali kitchen staff at the hospital!) and have gotten really excited when I recognised a couple of people were I am now as Nepali:)
My grandmother was Japanese and chose to marry an American man stationed in Japan during the height of US/Japanese conflict. She was disowned by her family and moved to the US, never speaking with them again. I often wonder with the time passed and new generations since, how I would be perceived by those who’re blood relatives and technically family but I’ve never talked to- especially the older generations. Great to see the elderly of Japan exude such kindness and lightheartedness towards foreigners! As always, the content is appreciated Anming.
pretty sure people are more forgiving now since it's been close to a century...don't think i've seen a japanese person that still holds a grudge against the Americans.
My grandma was born in Poland and moved to the US in the roaring 20s. She still had family members in Poland and I always wondered about my distant relatives after many decades have past.
As a bilingual in Japan, I can also confirm that as far as I've met, elderly Japanese people are super interested in foreigners and very welcoming! For some, nothing makes them happier than seeing foreigners with an interest in their country. They won't approach foreigners before they know whether they speak Japanese or not, but if you get to know them they will open up to you. Younger people are always much more impressed or shocked to hear foreigners speak Japanese- this is partly because learning English is compulsory in schools now, so they probably remember struggling to learn it when they were younger before they inevitably gave up, making it seem more impressive to them when a foreigner speaks Japanese to them.
Ive been to japan more than once and when i talk to elderly about my dream of living in japan or being in japan for a very long time they tell me 'please live in japan forever' it always WARMS my heart or makes me cry and i have to explain to them i just love that they are ao inviting and welcoming it makes japan feel like home.
The hat that the Japanese elderly lady was wearing looks like it was from Nepal, I remember seeing Nepalese man wearing it when I was in Kathmandu years ago.

My friends sometimes make fun of me for trying to learn Japanese, saying I'm just doing it to understand anime without subs (but that's how you know you reached your goal lol), but I want to be able to make friends that also speak the language! Sometimes the only thing that keeps a friendship from happening is a language barrier c:
I started a long time ago, and just reached N1 a couple years ago. Trust me that it’s super worth it. I’ve traveled to Japan a few times already, and always have a blast. Last time I went to a bar in Tokyo and hit a great conversation with a couple (I remember the guy being a policeman). They were really into JoJo’s bizarre adventure, so we talked about that, about life in Japan and all sorts of things. It was really fun.
I live in Japan and I’ve been struggling to find motivation to keep studying Japanese because it can be so frustrating. Recently at my work one costumer asked me if she could “talk to someone who could understand Japanese” (honestly she wasn’t even rude or anything, I actually couldn’t understand what she was saying). Anyway that made me think what am I even doing here, almost five years and still having so much trouble. But your videos do make me want to keep trying! Thank you so much :)

Some younger people can't get enough energy to go outside nowadays let alone wander around with strangers , dance and marvel at everything around them when most people her age are sitting at home just passing time.

That's the good part about reaching old age, you are more free since you have experience. My mom is always so free and happy. I love her.
Very nice video, showing how the elderly in Japan, are approachable and interested in other cultures, well done👍
Just showing how it is here. Many elderly Japanese are very kind.
the old lady seemed like such a fun person!!
The fact that you can now do everything makes it impossible for me to decide which that 💖but love that the most
Awesome video! I love your fashion style!
Love your intro after the “coming up” part. You could really make something similar for your real intro to your series.
The old lady breaks every stereotype of any elderly Japanese people.
I remeber when you first started on YT ... you're doing amazing !! congrats .
Thank you so much for being here the whole time!
These are awesome!!! Keep at it ✨
The editing is pretty good, the video went by fast. also we all need the energy of that lady!
I've been experimenting with different videos lengths.
Thank you for another great video.
The guy who is speaking Japanese from 2:15 is Japanese? I don’t know whether he is native or not since his Japanese is so natural and smooth.
Nice episode. Keep posting! I'm living through you since I'm stuck inside the house here in Toronto (2nd wave shutdown now). Wish I was back in Japan or Singapore :)
Wow, that really sucks that they locked you down again.
@@OrientalPearl Its ok short term. Currently getting 1000 infections per day for a population of 15 million. Should be near 0 in spring. (but winter will suck)
If you ever happen to visit Toronto in the future, I'll take you to my favourite coffee shop: www.bakacafe.com/
