    Why don’t you add the plants at the beginning? They will thrive in the ammonia spike and you will get your tanks to stabilise quicker

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  Год назад

      The plants wont doing great in high ammonia level they just melt also they will be overgrown with cotton like algae. From my experience it's better to wait for ammonia to go away before adding plants

    I like the glass pots too. I have been having a lot of success growing more expensive types of crypts in them. My one piece of advice though, plants get easily root bound in the small pot so good to occassionaly take them out, transplant the pups and put the original crypt back in the pot.

    Plants usually deplete de substrate of its ability to buffer the ph ! Without plants the substrate lasts longer ! That’s why breeders have no plants in their tanks

      You are welcome! I would say 100 would be good number but then you have to make sure the female to male ratio is around 1:3 with more females or the males would be too aggressive and eat all females when they molt. I'm having this problem now so have to move some of my males in a cull tank.

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  Год назад +1

      I don't have heaters in the tank my whole room is heated so no point of that. Caridina prefer room temperature 20-22C. I don't clean my ugf very often maybe once a few month with the pinsets, I showed it in this video.

    @lifewithnikka7440 Год назад

    Really enjoyed this video. It's really inspiring how you have found ways to have so many plants in your caradina tanks in a realistically manageable way!
    My question is, how often do you find you need to clean out the bottom of your ugf boxes? I understand some use small shop vac to pull the dust and detritus out of bottom without disturbing filtration. What method works best for you? Also, how long does this system last before you must reset on average?

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  Год назад

      I forgot when I clean ugf last time but if you have a lot of dust at the bottom you can siphon out with the small tube. It last a year a year and a half depends on the flow/amount of soil in the ugf

    • @lifewithnikka7440
      @lifewithnikka7440 Год назад

      @@ShrimpMania Thank you so much for answering my questions. I'm really enjoying your channel and have subscribed.
      I've been going back and forth on considering switching from sponge filters to ugf boxes for some time now. I have rheumatoid arthritis flare ups that make squeezing sponge filters out on 20+ tanks a tedious uncomfortable experience at times.
      After watching a couple of your videos and how you are able to incorporate plants to such a degree, I am definitely switching!
      I love plants and shrimp, and your tanks are very nice to look at. I don't keep any of the lines that are terribly unstable yet. This should work wonderfully for me!
      Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and experiences!
