The "makeshift" portal gun that various memory Ricks were using is actually the same design used in "The Rickshank Rickdemption" when Rick from his false origin story creates the first portal gun. So Birdperson was remembering it correctly, this is just a very early version of it.
This, exactly. I'm surprised NR missed this. It's the first design of the portal gun. Otherwise it would make no sense how Bird Person remembers very specific details about Rick's garage and stashed away gadgets but not about the gun that Rick uses over and over.
was about to comment this exactly
Yap totally agree it’s at 10:38 you can see it clearly
Is that car based on the warthog???
Ikr, Erik reeeally needs to stop adding speculation and his interpretations into the vids as fact
Moments before the credits, when memory Rick is talking with our Rick in the hallway, we can briefly see two pictures on the sides. They're difficult to see, but if you look real close, you can see what appears to be Rick's parents.
shame rockstar didn’t cover this
@@officerspooder same. Though, suppose you can't spot everything. If I was in his shoes, I'd ask others to comment anything I'd miss knowing I likely didn't find everything.
*They're
I could swear he mentioned it with the video with Jess
@Mercury Yeah i watched this episode once and noticed alot of shit.
Rick made those shirts with birdperson when his love for him was at its peak and now he made shirts with Morty too. Really shows how much Rick cares about Morty.
Pretty sure the car and garage have the same AI, it’s like how the neighbor said Jarvis since he controls both Starks house and eventually suit. Remember that we were introduced to the AI in the Keep Summer Safe episode as well.
So does the federation ship the can't handle wrangler jeans
Jarvis doenst control the suit its just an AI interface that can travel around the LAN of Tonys house
Can't believe you almost reached the final episode
Random question, I'd the Spacecar AI the same as the House?
@@seraphimsforge-master5433 i guess, sounds like the same
Another Easter egg is the vehicle they use while moving trough memories, it’s modeled after a halo warthog.
I do believe that the whole Warthog part is a reference to the ending of halo 3
@@cjb707 technically, Halo 1 and Halo 3 kind of have the same ending
Was looking for this comment. Shocked they did not bring it up. Or make the mistake and say it was the Tesla Truck.
It is clearly a Halo warthog
So happy I wasn’t the only one who noticed this lol - was also mad that they didint even recognize it.
"Don't be gross, Tammy" was hilarious. Until you pointed out that he said it in a previous episode and now it's a tearjerker.
Note: He had tears in his eyes as he said it
2:50 Rick also has the alcohol or drool under his bottom lip signifying that may be when he started his downward spiral into alcoholism
Nice catch. Agreed.
So when Beth tells him "you abandoned me!" That wasn't actually him
But at the same time he probably thinks he could've done the same if given the chance and feels guilty about it - after all, it happened frequently enough that the odds are for the abandonment.
So it was another Rick. This Rick never actually wanted to leave his family. This Rick is the Rickiest Rick because his sadness over that, I am guessing.
@@christiebreeechelon thats what I'm getting
Then where's that Rick?
All the Ricks that "abandoned" Beth were the ones who decided to go to the citadel. Otherwise he would have never left.
The podcast Summer is looking at 0:36 is the same Morty subscribed to in 4x3, the heist episode when everyone was doing random stuff
Interesting........maybe Alex Jones 😂😂
Yes, thank you!
YOU’RE SOOO RIGHT
14:43 that wooden looking plane thing is actually a callback to when Morty visits BP in season 2 episode 5 and sees a bunch of pictures of Rick on his wall (including a younger Rick holding a baby Morty), it's not just a random thing
Had people not notice the halo reference with the warthog looking vehicle
Saw it right away lol
I just commented the same thing lol
Was hoping Erik would notice this
Same, I was like oh shit
Yea glad to see halo getting more recognition again
Best episode of the season. I miss the episodes where continuity and lore was more than just a joke
In all seasons there are just 2-3 episodes with Continuity and all other are watchable in any order you want. Why would they change that in season 5?
well now you've got one so stfu
@@acey457 Follow your own advice
Yeah this was one of the most serialized episodes and I love it.
@@QueenOfDarknes5 people always say this, and kinda, but not really? Season 1 had Episode 1,2,5, 6, 7,8, 10, and 11. These featured the first Rick and Morty adventure, the first Summer and Rick adventure, Jerry fighting for Beth, and Cronenberg universe and its ramifications later on. Also, the origin episode of Evil Morty.
Season 2 had Episode 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,10. Season 3 focused on the divorce. Season 4 and 5 are more loose, less serialized. That’s 100% certain. You couldn’t want Season 3 episode 1 without Season 2 episode 10. Or Season 2 Episode 10 without Season 1 Episode 11. Or Season 3 Episode 7 without the rest of the season at all!!
The "AI is Diane/Jarvis" comparison has another MCU tie. Not that Jarvis turns into Vision like Erik says but that the Jarvis AI in Ironman is based on the real life Jarvis we see in Agent Carter, ie a dead human brought back as an AI.
We see him in endgame as well 👌🏼
Damn that makes pretty good sense
"Because BP doesn't remember it exactly"
Meanwhile ricks memory of the early portal gun looked exactly the same.
Ya I kinda felt like the portal gun design was more about it being the prototype.
Rick is so smart his memories know they're memories
They don't! Until he explains it to them. Then, once bird person finds out, the Ricks in BP's memories start to intuit they're memories once they see the real BP and Rick! This is because the Ricks in there are BP's memory of Rick at that time. The first Rick real Rick met needed an explanation from scratch, but the Rick in the stand up phase figured it out immediately because, to BP, he would.
The standup Rick was hilarious, his biggest annoyance was the time he wasted sitting through the standup, and not the fact that he wasn't real
"Ah shit I'm a memory
I sat through this whole stand up for nothing"
And his decoys know they're decoys
You said twice that BP doesn't remember the portal gun well but i'm pretty sure that portal gun looks exactly like it did in the 'origin story' flashback after the evil rick blows up Beth and Diane.
Yup yup
Cool, I've never heard the "save the cat" phrase; it's like the inverse of the "kick the dog" moments used to distinguish antagonists
Literally Blonsky in the Incredible Hulk when he shoots the dog
It originated from 1979 alien. Sigourney weaver went back for the cat on the ship and saved it from the alien.
@@JayB934txs thats a cool fun fact :)
thought rick was just being cool...time to save this cat
"For making me spend two years in an Earth highschool" is now my basis for headcanoning Tammy as not highschool-aged.
Yeah, I know it could mean solely Earth vs somewhere else but it could also be both too.
You missed the picture on the wall at the end of the episode that shows Rick’s parents
Is it me or does Ricks dad look like Jerry with a moustache
@@scorp77snake looks like Ned Flanders
@@scorp77snake looks exactly as Rick but with a black moustache
He also missed that the turret truck they crashed into the garage is the Warthog from Halo
Nice name 👀
I've always wondered why Rick hasn't gone to universe where Diane is alive.
I imagine because it not his original diane? What do you think?
@@firemothWell yeah but he is not with his original Beth either so
They would only look the same. There wouldn't be the original bond of growing and living and loving together. Think about Loki, so many different Varients that are similar yes, but no 2 are the same
I'd imagine those are some pretty popular timelines for Ricks, so he likely avoids them like he avoids the Citadel of Ricks
because if Diane doesn't die, there's most likely a rick still there
I loved how they basically get in a Halo Warthog for that last part of the episode
With the final rush to the objectives without stopping theme also
Map falling apart just like in halo 3 too
That needle he puts in his head as well
We actually saw the garage ai in the season 4 premiere when summer mocks Rick and morty when they have a speech about what they’re going to do that season
Uh... We had the car AI all the way back in season 2. "Keep Summer safe."
Such a unique and deep episode. Good job Roiland and Harmon 👍
Uhhhh yesss 🙌🏼
The vehicle was a reference to Halo, where you have to escape via Warthog. The areas were collapsing all around.
No electric guitar though 😢
You’re a genius! I was wondering why were they using the warthog , it’s the final level
And having to turn around and go all the way back from where you started
I'm surprised that that he didn't mention the robot gromphimites in the "tree". That a major callback to the first episode of the series when Rick tells Morty to shoot them saying they're robots, only afterwards to say they're bureaucrats which he doesn't respect.
2:51 he also has an alcohol drip suggesting his alcoholism is stemmed from Dianne’s death
Good observation!
@@Steampunkkids Thanks!
I’m shocked nr missed ricks portal gun is his original portal gun
0:35 the same podcasts that morty played in the randomised montage in episode 403
we’ve known that ricks spaceship was an AI back when the ship was ordered to keep summer safe and ended up ending the war between spiders and people
Also: the portal gun that memory rick has is exactly like the one in his "completely fabricated origin story"
And his car AI appeared in the keep summer safe episode
"Just like this season we find out Rick's car has an a.i."
Didn’t it first appear in S2E6?
"Keep Summer safe..."
This is the first time this season I've wanted to rewatch an episode many, many times. Just when I think I'm out, they PULL ME BACK IN
I’ve noticed that the vehicle they were driving in looks a lot like “ Warthogs “ from the Halo games.
The portal gun memory Rick has, looks just like the portal gun in Rick's season 3 premiere back story.
I don't know why I was expecting Ford Pines to be in one of the memory sequences
honestly at the child rick bedroom scene i thought the folded paperclip on the desk was in the shape of bill cypher at first. really was hoping we’d see another nod to GF
#3 confirms that he told bird person that theyre dead, rick could just tell everyone that theyre dead (maybe to keep them safe?)
I would love if gene turned out to be Kyle that Rick used to have as an assistant and just wiped his memory and kept him near incase
Everything okay here?
11:01 His mind built like in the episode of Gravity Falls where they visit grunkle Stan's memories and seeming how the two shows love referencing each other its kind of logical
Yep
16:25 is the flag of the Gromflomites an insect wing? Is the war about feather vs insect wings? Also, 1:23, 14:05 and 16:27 the clock in the garage is always at 2 o'clock. At 16:45 there is literally "an elephant in the room"... ja ja
His wife died in the garage then the garage is where the A.I is.
the clock’s always been set to 2 o’clock since the beginning afaik. you see it earlier in the pickle rick episode for sure
The car with the turret looks like a warthog straight out of halo, even the way they drive through and shoot at everything reminds me of btb
It was kinda obvious to spot that. I guess hes not a halo fan.
I’m surprised no one else noticed that
Rick to Mr. Nimbus: don't you establish canonical backstory!
also rick: establishes canonical backstory using Bird Person
I was curious about what Ricks Parents we’re talking about when it shows him as a kid. You can hear them talk in the background
Babysitter on the phone*
I absolutely love these videos, after every episode i cant wait for you guys to break it down. It makes me appriciate the episodes way more
The memory rooms are totally out of bill and teds bogus journey when they are in hell experiencing bad memories In an endless hallway of rooms
I'm pretty sure that Blood Ridge is a reference to the Halo map Blood Gultch and they also used a Warthog from Halo to escape
It’s interesting when you find out about the Morty farming. It’s possible they tried doing the same with Ricks early on. Which is why there was like a purge of Diane and Beth’s… other Ricks (or other aliens) influencing timelines so that Rick becomes Rick.
Can't believe you didn't mention the memory Rick surviving I want to see him again It was cool
Did anybody notice that the club where Rick is fighting against other Ricks has tables with the shape of Umbrella Co.?? Everything is connected!! XD
"Friendship" bruh he was straight up proposing at that point. The memory strikes me as being rejected by someone you love in a Romantic way and not because your friend didnt wanna drive with u to taco bell. Idk it makes him getting plastered at BP's wedding make a lot more sense as he was jealous instead of just being pissy bc weddings
Erik really doesnt want more invitations to his "friend's" standups lmaooo
Why does the Rick gang in this episode remind me of the gang from mad max that killed Max’s wife and kid
the wooden car at 14:43 is from one of the photographs in the s2 get schwifty episode in bird persons house, he and rick are standing in front of it
@1533 the truck looks like it was from halo
I'm reading the crystal shard in the forehead as a reference to the Diablo franchise I still haven't seen pointed out by anyone. Supporting evidence: similar Skyrim reference later in the episode with the bucket on the head
That makeshift portal Gun is from Rickshank Redemption. The memory of a Rick appearing to him and showing him the portal gun is the same one.
Such a great episode. Honestly, this season had been really good, despite the trolling.
Trolling?
@@IamSickCase Giant incest baby was a weird episode
@@IamSickCase probably the decoy fakeouts
This isn't an easter egg really, but I found it interesting that young memory Rick stuttered and asked so many questions just like Morty. (7:25)
yes! that was my first thought when watching it in real time. ties in w him as a kid dressing similarly. we all rly do end up like our predecessors.
Morty is a young rick all over again, rick sees himself in morty, that is why he is hard on him
I like how Bird Person deduced that Rick only mentioned his daughter when he needed an escape plan...as smart as Rick is, I think Bird Person is just as intelligent...maybe not in the scientific sense, but his analytical intelligence & emotional intelligence, is really high, if not surpassing even Rick...considering he ironically barely shows much emotions
Or he just knows Rick really well.
Both of you have great points and you could both be right
I think for someone like Rick to be interested in someone for this long, that person must be pretty intelligent and skillful too, so I like both theories
I thought the BP and Rick spinning fight scene firing the guns together was another poke at Marvel copying Rocket Racoon being picked up and spun around while he fires his gun
They don't confirm HOW Diane and Beth die , so maybe he wasn't lying when he said he'd made up the scene of their deaths when being questioned by the Federation?
just as this season we found out ricks car has an ai
are you serious?
Bruh r u serious
The car always had a AI remember when they had to fix the battery to the car by going inside the battery the microverse
The podcast that summer was looking at was the same one from the Heist episode!
13:05 notice how this entire sequence looks like the battle of geonosis in attack of the clones, walkers landing, troops charging forth, guns blazing, and they are on a red land surface, albeit on a moon instead of a planet
Did everyone miss Rick saying to older Rick that he's living with a version of their dead daughter... Beth is dead?
Remember towards the beginning where memory Rick has a portal gun that doesn't go anywhere? The explanation being BP didn't know what it did and these were his memories of Rick. I think we need to be careful about accepting this as cannon, it might still be BS that RS was shoveling BP, who is remembering it... Just a thought
Was waiting all day for this 😎
This episode was awesome
Nobody going to mention how the jeep they're driving during all the fighting is totally a Warthog from Halo?!
Waiting for someone to point it out
Just like in Halo 1, it’s the final level and everything is falling apart around them , they have to escape
What summer was looking at was the same stuff morty was looking at during the heist episode on the random stuff they were doing
Is it just me or Rick sounds like Morty here 7:25
Is nobody gonna talk about how you can see a photo of Ricks parents when Rick and memory Rick leave child ricks room,it’s a kind of inception
7:25 Sounds a lot like Morty, rather than a Rick
They are related thooo
I agree it is the best episode this season
Is it true that the season finale will be an hour long?
Yeah
Not really
It's 2 episodes into 1 cuz we're at episode 8 and there's 10 in the season so they're putting 9 and 10 together we'll see if it's one big one or just 2 related ones
I love Inception and that clunky snow scene exposition dialogue is one of my favorite parts 😂 Love that you made that connection, my brain totally went straight there too during that part of the episode
"rejecting there friendship" just say Rick loved him
I agree it was clear Rick had strong emotions for bird person
“you’re a bird, and a person, and mooooore”
I've been looking for someone to cover this episode in that way. ig the bros just see platonic love/friendship
@@rissd6487 Yeah, I was looking for the same. Everybody calls it friendship when the word "love" was used
@@rissd6487 i dont even like rick and morty but the fact the bros who watch it are like "its platonic love!" Are so blind as if rick hasnt been confirmed pansexual and as if the director didnt confirm it was romantic love (and ffs . Rick got with a planet of all things and birdperson is so far fetched?)
Your break down videos are so good, blows me away every time, the attention you put into all the little details hidden in the shows.
I clicked faster than Rick can take a sip from his flask
Wait I was off by a few minutes
Be right back
I’m so confused why you didn’t discuss how Rick was clearly in love with Bird Person???
I loved this video! Every second of it!
There is SO much that I miss in each episode, so very thankful for these videos
We always knew his car had an AI “keep summer safe, not totally stoked about the general vibe and stuff”
The Warthog from Halo Was so smooth. En el juego Halo 3 aparece en la última misión el mismo contexto en el cuál se abren paso en su vehículo máster chief y el Inquisidor ante el apocalipsis que los envuelve.
2:20
No, goddamnit did you just want to rush out a video?
What was confirmed is that Rick’s original Beth died, we know nothing about Diane, and we know nothing about how and when Rick’s Beth died
Bird person isn't mad that Rick told him and now is "forced" to raise his kid. He is mad that Rick was so selfish that he wasn't going to tell BP about his kid, but had to in order for him to survive.
Exactly. It’s amazing how many people really don’t understand ricks character and hence misinterpret other characters too.
If you understand his character it resolved the “Beth/Diane die” story being true or made up and this episode just confirmed it was true. Not because there was definitive proof the exact course of events happened but because it’s Ricks character to use the truth and vulnerability (his pain from losing Beth/Diane) to cover up a lie and make it more believable (the formula). And then to not admit he actually expressed vulnerability he just plays it like the whole thing was made up as a chess move way in advance.
The door memories remind me of gravity falls with Stan and Bill Cypher
The truck Rick and Bird person are driving in is basically the warthog from Halo 1 and the way they are escaping a collapsing reality kinda reminds me of the ending of Halo 1 as well.
I just have 3 Questions about this episode:
1. Why is Rick wearing his blue pants while being at the stand up from squansh because it seems to me that he met bird Person after Diana's death, because to me it seem alike he would need interdimensional travel to go to that party to meet him there.
2. This bird Person cannot really be his own right? So when Rick befriended him was that in his original reality or some other, like is this blood ridge the same for ricks that went in with their adult Beth's or is this blood ridge that from another Rick (I know that the reality they changed to in season 1 is nearly exactly the one they left behind but still Abit confusing for me)
3. Lastly how old is the Rick with blue pants and the bad looking one because if in my first question Rick met Diane after bird Person how in the hell went he from the look he has there to blue pants to back because he looks the same in the revolution and Revenge scene but just the stand up scene was his younger look.
The car with the turret is pretty close to referencing halo’s warthog, y’all missed that too
Your missing the little easter egg at the end with the photos of ricks parents
Escaping blood ridge in the car could be a reference to Halo 3’s blood gulch where the map is slowly falling apart as you escape in a very similar looking car.
I really wish Ford pines was in this episode in my opinion
The fact that bird person diverted fire from himself by announcing that Rick Sanchez was there , tell me that Nimbus is a better friend
The garage AI is 100% Rick’s wife in one way or another
This comment is underrated
If Rick was using the hallucinogen as a component of the mind meld with the crystal (which looks a lot like the crystal that parasites used to input false memories in the Smith family, it's a possible callback to inception where they needed a powerful sedative to enter multiple stages of subconsciousness.
Also that vehicle was a clear callback to the warthogs in Halo 3
Not every straight person since this ep came out being like “Rick and bird person friendship😭😭😭” like fam please stop
Huh? One more time in English?
@@kaptainkaos1202 rick has been canonically pansexual since the beginning so its stupid to believe that he doesn't love birdperson in a romantic way. especially with the how the wedding ep plays now.
Bruh how did he not see the vehicle they are in at the end look like a warthog from halo
Am I the only one that thinks Rick's love for Birdperson was romantic, and not just brotherly?
Nah I could see that being the case, after all Rick's been shown to be pansexual
@@slinkbradshaw8674 Exactly! But I don't hear any reviews mentioning that.
The way they went face to face, chest to chest, groin to groin and spun around....
I think the writers were really cuing us in that his love for him is more than brotherly.
I think I might have one of the most clear theories out here.
Remember how Rick has a box named
"Time Travel Stuff" but always refrains to use anything from it?
If our Rick is so broken about the death of his daughter, it isn't beyond the realm of assumption to assume that he must've used time travel to save Beth and Diane somehow.
Evil Morty might be the son of original Beth, who existed after our (original) Rick time travels to save his family.
Somehow, time messed back with him and took away Beth as an adult (maybe the citadel of Ricks were involved) and shocked by this event, our Rick just goes crazy and abandons Evil Morty who then becomes, well, evil.
The only missing puzzle piece is why our Morty is so important to our Rick because it is 100% certain that our Morty isn't original. There is no orignal Morty in the original timeline because Beth died as a kid and hence the line in this episode about "hypothetical grandkid"
