I love how Pony Island is basically just a metephor for development hell - with all the incorrect/unfinished code sections, the frequent code portals (glitches), and “endless playtesting” - but made literal with the whole Hell part
It also makes sense with the fact that Lucifer wants you to enjoy the game [and keeps telling you not to cheat or break the game further] while Hopeless Soul wants you to just finish it at all costs.
Lol yup. I have a major soft spot for works of fiction that are literal interpretations of common phrases. Another good one is SCP-002; a large, malevolent organism whose internal organs look like a fully furnished apartment. It's a...living room. Ba dum tss.
Idk how you put out these 3-5 hour long videos this quickly. I haven't seen a flaw peacock getting worked this hard since .... well last night actually.
I love how the credits section implies that either the lead programmer and the main artist are the same person but chose to use an alias for one of his positions, or that somehow Dracula was spoken into existence as a separate entity from his inspiration and origin.
I hope we don't burn you out. Feel free to take your time, I don't think any of us want you to feel like you're trapped in these videos. You are so intelligent and you speak of these things with so much enthusiasm that we can't help but be excited to hear from you on everything. But I think all of your subscribers are also willing to wait.
Thank you 😊 this video was a practice of speed, but even now just coming up with an outline of The Hex, I'm definitely gonna want to be careful not to rush. The Mullinsverse may be my greatest challenge yet!
@@flawedpeacock As one of the people who requested it, I just want to say: I knew it would give you loads to chew on. Looking forward to your analysis on it all, this is one of my favorite "game universes". Good luck!
I wish more viewers were like you. Most people don't care, they feel like they're owed endless free entertainment. They don't consider the human being on the other side of the computer screen who makes the content they feel entitled to. Thanks for caring.
@@WobblesandBean it’s not the same, but I do art commissions for a living and I know something of what it’s like to be constantly churning out creative works and doing “invisible labor” as fast as you can. It’s rough, and I want to preserve the wellness of all creators. It’s such a hard balance, especially when your audience is growing so much so fast. The tug o war between “I want to do all I can” and “I need to take care of myself” is one we are all dealing with.
@@WobblesandBeanmaybe in 2015 or on the channels geared towards younger viewers. Most viewers are like our fine gentleman up there aware of the parasocial relationships and its pitfalls along with genuine empathy and admiration for all creators. You'll find a comment like this on most small creators channels. I know I've left my fair share. Viewers are much more educated on the work involved in video creation and its not like the old days where you could get big shooting a video and posting it within an hour.
With the actual game Pony Island 2: Panda Circus being announced at the game awards the bit about what's behind the gate not being the reward aged like milk into the tastiest cheese. So hyped for that game and the eventual video:D
To immediately see that not only are you aware of fear and hunger, but fear it, is amusing. Though the good news is that the longer you put it off the more time the creator has to add more playable characters to the sequels (since by what I understand the plan is to make all the main characters playable) and thus more content to toil over 🙃
@@fetordae I agree, but I would also suggest it be treated in part like the faith videos, since while both are beasts in their own right, termina's connections to the first game are too many to be ignored (especially the implications for S endings)
SIGNALIS weighs on my soul like the gun on a hard-boiled detective's hip. I wake up every day praying that I won't have to start writing that script today. Great ringtone btw.
Ooooh it's WG! Hey girl! Its always such a joy to see dope creators biggin each other up. *Edited to add: Signalis feels so crazy subjective that I think it might even be super interesting to see a group of chill creators collab'ing to give their different takes on the theme together! Like one big super-philosophized video jam sesh. Lol
fun fact, in greek mythology butterflies are associated with thanatos, the god of death. they supposedly represent the souls he brings to the underworld. itd be a stretch normally, and still might be, but his brother charon is in the game afterall
Fun fact! Sheol (שאול) was a real place next to Jerusalem in the mountains that was mostly used as a garbage disposal pit where people burned their trash
Pony Island was my (accidental) introduction to horror as a 9-10 year old girl, watching youtubers like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. Ever since then, I've been hooked on it. I was always so invested in the deeper lore but I could never find anything on the game despite scouring youtube. I've never been more excited for a video of yours, Flaw Peacock!
As a religious scholar, this video had me grinning like an idiot from start to finish. The little details you pulled from both "Big T" and "little t" traditions and Christian mythology made me so dang happy. Seeing "Mik ha 'El" ("Who is like God?" and origin of the name Michael) on your whiteboard just sealed the deal for me. Take my sub, you absolute madman.
Without a doubt it was absolutely nessesary! There are HEAVY yet subtle callbacks to The Hex. Im glad you enjoyed! I'm so friggin amped to show my findings!
@@flawedpeacock I’m excited that you’re doing a video on inscription, it deserves your level of in depth analysis. P.s. we out here rewatching twin peaks because of you
As cool and brilliant as fear and hunger is, the thing I adore about these videos is the PASSION. Funger is something a little hard to get into if you don't fully understand what you're going to experience. What we want to see most are passion projects that make you WANT to power through these multi hour videos. You make things I've never heard of seem fascinating, and you've opened up a new world of indie and lesser known project appreciation for me and many others. That being said, I'm already 41 minutes in and CAN'T WAIT to see where this goes, and make my own theories along with you.🔥🔥🔥
I seriously appreciate that, thank you! It's seriously such a tough game, which makes the research and investigation process all the more intimidating. I know a F&H analysis is in the cards, but I won't let it loom over me, reading your kind words helps in that! Thank you!
@@flawedpeacock Fear and Hunger is a brutal game. While I'd love to hear your take on it, if you aren't feeling it then you don't need to subject yourself to it. And I say "subject yourself" because the content warnings are absolutely no joke - but you've probably figured that out by now if you've started looking in to it. Like the last poster above said, what draws me back to your videos isn't what you're covering, it's the enthusiasm you have for the media. I'd never even heard of the movies Suspiria or Jennifer's Body, and I still watched ever second of both your videos on them!
@@flawedpeacockas much as I would love a funger video, I totally would rather you cover something that makes you excited. Funger is rough in both the content and how much lore there is
I would do just about anything for you to cover Rusty Lake. Seriously, that series has it all. Weird alchemy, time travel, corrupted souls, and most importantly, a plot relevant bird named Harvey.
I love rusty lake so much I have a harvey tattoo, I would die if he covered it. I think it's interesting how many fans of that game are here. I know they aren't small, but I haven't managed to find the Fandom much.
Not to mention that after covering Who's Lila we're clearly deep in the trenches of Twin Peaks references in very hyperspecific psychological indie games, lord I'd do ANYTHING
As someone who didn't grow up with much religion, a lot of media drenched in Christian lore has this diffuse edge for me. I 'get' Pony Island, but there's references near the edge of the work that I don't 'get'. Thanks for helping focus the image a smidge!
I'm not christian, but I'd absolutely recommend the bible to you. It is literally the basis of our modern day culture and is enrooted into almost every piece of literature. It is a fascinating read and I'm sure you'd find it quite thought prevoking. While I'm not a christian, much of my personal philosophy comes from this book
Dude, if you cover Signalis, I'm going to yell. I LOVE THAT GAME. Also, thank you for covering Daniel Mullin's work One of the most iconic developers out there.
For the thing at 57:00, this is not just a reference to Missingno. The top part of the graphic is a reference to "Glitch City", a term for an invalid, untraversable map usually found using glitches related to the Safari Zone minigame.
Her Story was the first game that affected me to the point where I couldn't think of anything else for quite some time, the fact that you just mentioned it has already activated my neurons. I really hope you'll be able to intorduce more people to it later, such a gem of a game
I CANT WAIT FOR THIS!!!! The Mullinsverse is SO ENGAGING, reminds me so much of Garage Heathen's little universe in the creativity and multiple game tie-ins. Your interest and immersion makes this stuff so much clearer!!
I'm so happy! Pony Island was the second real horror game I learned about after OFF, it holds a very special place in my heart and it breaks my heart that very few people know about it
i’m gonna be honest floppy, i typically fall asleep to your videos, but man - sometimes it’s hard because you’re such a good storyteller and you make your videos so funny and interesting and easy to become absorbed in. keep it up man, i love your videos so much!
I'm so excited for you to talk about The Hex!! More people need to know about sarsaparilla. I feel like it gets overshadowed by Pony Island and Inscryption even though it has so much intricate information and setup that sees pay offs in Inscryption and, as you described, is set up for in Pony Island. I really feel like they are best understood and enjoyed together with this Luciferian thru line weaving them into one another. That being said, another incredible and in-depth video, and I look forward to the next one~!
It's a real shame that the hex just didn't get the same play the other two games did. The storytelling is wonderful and it really shows the range of Daniel Mullins it literally has almost every type of game in there and he kills it.
You've seriously become one of my fave essayists. I love the topics you choose to explore and you really bring the fun back into media analysis. Hopefully I can be half as good as you are in my own journey of learning how to process what I consume critquely!
The duality of hopeless, soul and Satan is perfectly illustrated by asmodeus Despite perfectly being an antagonist, He is first placed into his position to further the plot, second specifically willing to play with a protagonist, and lastly, perfectly willing to let them win to further the plot after having played
Daniel Mullin's work has been a huge work for my own creative work, with Pony Island being a game I remember when I was younger, and The Hex I know nothing about. Inscryption is one of my favorite games, so much that I got some of my closest friends to play it. Now, one of my favorite youtubers is covering all of them? It's a dream come true. A youtuber that showed me Who's Lila, which I then showed my friends, and subsequently got them to watch said youtuber? This is all a beautiful rhyme that has been waiting for more with baited breath!
As a catholic,"We're getting floppy with it ladies and gentlemen. And a bit blasphemous" made me crack up. I love this. (Great video in general! I ran into your Her Story vid and your stuff rocks, I dub thee my new "guy to talk ab video games while I make art" person)
Oh man i remember doing the last part with the pony stampede and being hyped as fuck. Only to say _"wait a fucking minute"_ as my brain is starting to digest what is happening.
So pleased to see my favorite pro lapsed Catholic absolutely devastating it again! The Season 3 intro was a delightful treat and the theoretical roadmap for the rest of S3 has me pretty stoked. I feel like this was, from my understanding of things, an extremely solid gathering of all the information in Pony Island and a great breakdown. The only thing I was surprised not to see was anything discussing one theory that got bandied about a lot early on, and that I think could be feasible: Is the Lucifer we are dealing with throughout the game Actual Lucifer, Morningstar, or are they the lesser, a child, a Lucifer Junior working hard to make their father proud and free him? Lucifer seeing God as 'pure evil' makes sense of course, but there's something interesting in the idea of a secondary heir of Lucifer knowing, and loving, that his father is the definition of pure evil. Louie-as-Lucifer-Jr. was discussed a bit earlier in the game's history but seems to have fallen off for one reason or another, and I think touching on it might be the only gap in this video's pristine coverage of a favorite game of mine. Thanks so much for doing these as standalones and I DO NOT think you lost out from speed of production here: This was pure FlawP goodness.
53:39 GASP IT WAS YOU I have been WRACKING MY BRAIN where I got the butter curry tip, and it was you!! Thank you! I used it as the finishing touch to an oxtail curry I made in my crockpot. It was a full 1 gallon pot, and I had 3 others there for dinner. There were no leftovers 😂😂😂
28:36 So AD doesn’t stand for After Death. It’s Anno Domini, or “The year of our lord” which is basically from Christ’s birth and beyond. So 1252 would be the correct year I believe. Other than that, loved everything you have to say about this.
1252 years after the birth of Christ would be AD 1248, because Jesus was born 4 BC because the monk in charge of keeping count goofed up and made the year 4 years less than what it should be.
I can't help but notice your voice for Satan sounds a lot like René Auberjonois, Mr House in Fallout New Vegas and Odo in Deep Space 9, and your Hopeless Soul voice sounds like Gemini from Lies of P sometimes Fantastic work as always
So I’ve been thinking about why I love your content so much and I think I’m now understanding why I love it; It’s so simple but is able to deliver such DETAIL. Because fancy info-graphics and everything are good and all but fuck, man. You, a green screen, a white board, and a piece of media, are the fastest ways to get me entranced and excited for a new video. Something of which I haven’t felt in a VERY long time.
17:35 I will be prepared to keep the concept in mind i am so prepared with my mind for keeping things in mind i can keep so many things in mind I was one of the mens in this steam thread doing the ARG and figuring out the stuff. I am also bretty sure i was the first one to upload the secret cutscene on youtube. This vid is one hell of a memory trip dang
I had a thought while watching this. I always assumed that Hopeless Soul and Lucifer were just one in the same, that Hopeless is not a real 'person' but just an act by Lucifer. However, your theory that they're two separate beings but still one in the same is interesting. It made me think of the philosophical saying 'the ghost in the machine,' referring to the mind and body being separate but still one and the same. It made me realise, Hopeless Soul is quite literally a ghost in a machine. It is a soul trapped in an arcade game. Maybe Hopeless IS the ghost/mind while Lucifer is the machine/body. You said it yourself in the video how Lucifer focuses more on making the game 'fun' and 'appealing' (building up the game/Being the body to encourage the player to stay til the end) while Hopeless is moreso the brains behind the operation, ensuring everything necessary gets done. I might be reaching way too hard, but it gave that theory more standing to me. Another thing that I'm probably reaching way too far for is that perhaps these games have built a kind of demonic version of the Holy Trinity. Perhaps in this version Lucifer is the father, while Hopeless Soul is the Holy Spirit. I realise in this instance we need to a 'Son' or child to fill the trio. Sado is a character who has clear links to Lucifer (e.g. talking in different voices) and, due to the pentagon by Clara's desk in the Hex we can presume she was definitely created in a way that at the absolute least was inspired by satanism. Sado being the 'Son/Child' in this instance could explain how she is so similar to Lucifer, yet is presumably a different entity. I suppose then you could say Clara is like Mary in this instance, delivering/allowing the creation of the child of a higher being. I dunno, these are probably huge reaches. Just wanted to share my thoughts. I could ramble on more but this comment would become an entire novel xD
Mine too, it's so wonderful to watch the little changes and polish that's added every video. Last time it was jokes about the thirsty comments (rightfully so), now we get an animated intro and fanart sharing!!
Wait a minute... that's absolutely gotta be Prime peacock and the creator in this intro!! And YOO The Network!!! Tying back to the secret vid from the finale with them having more of a role in creation of videos!!!!!! And then not being able to finish season 2 before season 3's Hex/Pony island,, causing Prime to be trapped in a "Digital Purgatory" because his story hadn't been told yet!! Hopefully now that inscryption has (almost) concluded Prime can be let out of Timeline Time-Out lmao
The part with Asmodeus, where a steam "friend" text you was super messed up :D My "friend" is one I actually chat with and I asked him why he typed that shit. We both had a great laugh, but we were so confused. Then I returned to the game and had to start that part over xD
You remind me of Matt Berry sometimes from What We Do In The Shadows and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. Your videos have gotten me through so many awful work shifts listening to them, and with the insane effort you put into the visuals and presentation, I've also gone and then watched the videos properly too afterwards like I'm doing now. I really love your sense of humour and effort you put in these projects. This type of video analysis is my favourite form of content, and for such a small channel, you do it very, very well. Please don't burn yourself out making these videos, as much as I love seeing you upload, I dont want it to be at the expense of your own sanity and energy, and I don't want you to lose that genuine passion you have for this type of videoform too I'll be checking out your Patreon in your description if you have one, and if you don't, I strongly recommend you make one because I'm not the only one whod like to support you Please keep making videos, I love your work!
A Flaw Peacock video being less than 5 hours long feels so wrong Also, thanks so much for the shoutout! It makes me so happy that my interpretation of Mullin's work helped you along with this wonderful set of games.
Talos Principle is a good one. This game reminds me of that. You’re an ai stuck in a simulation to test your potential to succeed humanity after it has been eliminated. Unfortunately after an eternity, the simulation is breaking apart.
This is exactly what i was looking for in pony Island breakdown everyone else is too low of quality or too short this is the perfect mix of walking through the game step by step while still compacting the entire experience down
Also, I think one theme with Lucifer that is quite empathizable to anyone who has tried to create anything, is his conflicting desires to make "his" game, "his way", but also to appeal to a wider audience, to bring joy to the largest number of people. In the game this ends up parodying focus testing with slowly making the pony island game more and more cutesy, adding in microtransactions in an almost corporate attempt to "collect the most souls possible", but also we see this genuine desire to make his game more enjoyable, and the frustration he feels that "his vision" is not the game people want to play. People, at least in his interpretation, do not want to give up their soul to a demon, and so it becomes cute ponies instead. It is a constant chasing of trying to please everyone, when in the end he is just giving up his own dreams to try to appeal to the masses.
Listen, boneless chicken is fine, I don't gatekeep. But what you're giving up is the primal pleasure of tearing the bones out of your prey with your own hands and teeth. And in this gray consumerist hellscape you don't get many chances to jump in on the circle of life like that.
YKW touche. Home made traditional style, absolutely desicated to the point of pure dryness, so that it contrasts with whatever sauce you put on it? Better than any boneless option out there.
You're spoiling us! I started watching your Suspiria video today, then paused to watch the movie before finishing the rest of your video, then felt sad that we'd probably have to wait a while for your next work - but here we are. Thank you!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. I’ve watched all of your videos despite not having actually watched any of the movies or played any of the games you’ve covered prior to finding your channel. If you keep at it with content this high quality, I know you’ll blow up
FP you've quickly risen to the top of my horror vtuber/ video essayist of all time. Been great to just have these in the background while working. Thanks for all that you do. (Also I'm so glad you have signalis as part of the potential list, I just finished it the other day and OOPH)
Just throwing my theories out there for fun: The entire game a facade, Theodore doesn't exist as a real human but rather as an in-game player character, similar to the Hex's main cast. Lucifer is trying to trick the player into performing a 'hex' ritual, allowing him and/or his demons to escape from the gates of hell and into the real world. From there lucifer creates The Gameworks and Gamefuna. Though this theory is pretty floppy, I don't think Theodore being a PC isn't. The arcade is very obviously 3D modelled, and Daniel Mullins is no stranger to using real footage in his other games to represent the real world. Asmodeus uses tricks that would only work on you - the human player. The arcade cabinet doesn't have a mouse/keyboard despite the OS using one frequently. 331 years is a lot of time to pass within the Mullins-verse, but only a moment within a game. The ability to release poison gas from within the machine also strikes me as something that would be beyond his power. Pony island is a 'game within a game', the extra layer allows lucifer and other NPCs to communicate to the player without freaking them out, and develop the pony island game to his needs on the fly. This "arcade wall" between the player and pony island isn't broken until the final deamon encounter, but by then the player is already fully invested. This '4th wall break' and 'game within a game' theme is repeated in both the hex and inscryption, breaking the 4th wall in the final chapters. I may edit or reply to this comment down the road if I've got more to add, most of these theories I've only come up with after seeing your thorough dive into this video and the hex video. I appreciate how deep you go, exploring the journey rather than just trying to rush to the destination.
I would watch every video of you no matter what the game would be, heck you could even make math sound interesting! You are just such a good and passionate storyteller!
I stumbled on your page a few days ago. I don't know much about you but you give teacher vibes, but like the safe and caring teacher who is passionate about what he is teaching and is genuinely and unselfishly attentive to, and proud of, each and every one of his students, especially the ones who struggle. A truly rare and awesome human.
Gotta say, I'm so happy I found this channel. Whether you're going on tangents or reeling it in to keep it concise, you make some solid videos my guy. I'm not even a gamer and I can listen to your stuff all day.
a little thing id like to add about meeting bael is that a demon giving a name, or knowing/finding a demons name holds a lot of power. i cant say for certain why he gavit it to you, but i thought it worth mention
Pony Island was my introduction to games that are more than games. I love this so much. I hope this won’t throw off your schedule too much. Can’t wait for the rest of Seasons 2 and 3 :) My favorite moment was the Steam messages haha, that one almost got me. Also, I don’t mind if you ‘get Floppy’ with it. That’s fun! Oh and as for my first creepypasta was the ‘How to Summon a Demon’ one, which is strangely fitting!
My god. Her Story is a fucking power blast from the flower past. I’d love to see you cover that, of all people. You respect story structure like no one else and no games structure affected me like Her Story.
I'm not sure if you'll ever see this comment (I really hope you do) but Flaw Peacock, you have got to be one of the best RUclipsrs that I have had the pleasure of stumbling across. Your video essays are truly a work of art and the editing, analysis, and overall general composition are some of the most creative I've seen in my life. Genuinely your videos are a spot in the dark when it comes to the lack of cohesive video game/film essays that I've tried to get myself into. A lot of the media you've covered I've never even heard of or, in the case of something like Faith, have zero interest in actually playing because I'm a bit of a baby and don't particularly enjoy horror games. But by god your videos have provided me with a way to engage with some really unique and interesting pieces of media that I wouldn't have ever thought about otherwise. Your creations (and these deserve the title of creation because content sounds far too detached to me when I can clearly tell that you put so much effort and love into each one) have inspired me to think more critically about the themes and stories that occur in my favourite games and comics. I don't think I'd ever have thought about the intricate themes of war, loss, and trauma in Transformers of all things without watching through your Faith videos. I don't think I could ever come up with any sort of critique in the way you present yourself because it truly speaks to me on a level that I don't think I've felt before. I love being able to pop one of your videos up on my second monitor and have something so wonderfully engaging to listen and think about while I'm doing something as mundane as homework or fighting a boss in Genshin Impact. I am so very hyped for the Inscryption video as its a game that I've only ever seen a few bits and pieces of via Markiplier's playthrough and a few well crafted animations and I honestly couldn't think of a better guy to explain it for me What I'm trying to say is thank you, Flaw Peacock. Your videos are truly a wonderful experience to watch through and I hope you know, as someone who likes to create things myself, that they are what I would consider a true work of art. And to anyone who reads through this comment all the way to the end; I hope this short piece of writing finds you well and I hope you go on to live a wonderful life. Have a cookie of your choice, a nice warm blanket, and a cup of hot chocolate
This was so great to listen to! Your interest and excitement for the games and movies you're diving into is palpable. It makes it difficult to treat your videos as background noise as I'm always drawn in and focused on you and what you're pointing out.
I am positive you are on your way to being a huge RUclipsr. The love and care you put into your videos is something else and each one has been an absolute treat
This channel is truly hidden gem. It's actually insane what great level of production and what level of passion behind those videos, I really glad that youtube recommend such amazing creators to me
I’m always a sucker for religious themes and references, especially when specific verses fit in with the story. Glad you could point all of it out. The effort you put into your research really shows :)
This was done so quickly and yet I think it still reaches that same level of quality and that same level of positing your own theories and thoughts rather then just saying someone else's and that's one of the things I appreciate the most, well done Floppy
I LOVE your style/structure so much! I'm so glad I've found your channel now so I have a load of videos to binge... adding: your sense of humour, meme references, and moments of candid laughter make these videos extra enjoyable. watching your videos is a delight!
Hahaha you know what's funny? A Wingstop saga sounds like something that would've happened with the initial intention of this channel. Oooh I suddenly have a really good idea for an April fools gag. I'll keep this in mind. Thank you for that!
Fun fact, in the advanced options section, when it goes: yes, no, maybe, I don't care, and can you repeat the question. That's a reference to the sitcom "Malcom in the middle" who's theme has the following lyrics: "yes, no, maybe, I don't know, can you repeat the question? You're not the boss of me now, you're not the boss of me now, you're not the boss of me now, and you're not so big. You're not the boss of me now, you're not the boss of me now, you're not the boss of me now, and you're not so big. Life is unfair."
Dude you are killing it, these videos just keeps on getting more “watchable” (as in even better some how). I began this video came home from work and suddenly I am 50 minutes into the video. P.S hope you will make a video on “Her story” at some point. P.P.s hope you have a wonderful day
DANIEL MULLINS UNIVERSE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i love inscryption, this game is one of the best for me, beaten it 3 times, and the way hex inscryption and pony island are connected is mesmerising. but seeing YOU making video about something I adore after you made me buy Faith and fall in love with it is priceless
Loved your analysis of the game itself and also your section on literalism vs symbolism with the story of Lucifer! Glad I stumbled on this channel. Can't wait to watch the rest!
20:47 I was thinking this could be a reference to the song ‘Boss of Me’ by They Might Be Giants (probably better known for being the theme song for the tv show Malcolm in the Middle) although it’s slightly different with the word “care” instead of “know”. Probably unrelated but felt like a possibility.
You know, having been here from day 1 I finally get that famous feeling of "having witnessed the birth of something great". Every upload a gift. Much obliged 🙏
The lion and "sober" bit is actually "sober-minded". 1 Peter 5:8 "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."
I played Pony Island for the first time yesterday... And I went straight from Hopeless Soul's profile to the cutesy version of Pony Island. No idea how that happened.
Yooo, thanks for calling out Jeck, I feel like the dude is so underappreciated in the community. He's been there since the beginning and has even helped out of ton with moderating the reddit side of the community
It is absolutely wonderful that so soon after I properly engage with this Daniel Mullins' wonderful body of work I get to see someone just as engaged going through it. Deeply enjoyable video, looking forward to everything else you're making!
I love how Pony Island is basically just a metephor for development hell - with all the incorrect/unfinished code sections, the frequent code portals (glitches), and “endless playtesting” - but made literal with the whole Hell part
"Development hell" that's flipping brilliant!

In retrospect, it makes perfect sense that he would play The Adversary *to himself.*

Very clever.

That will be glorious!
To immediately see that not only are you aware of fear and hunger, but fear it, is amusing. Though the good news is that the longer you put it off the more time the creator has to add more playable characters to the sequels (since by what I understand the plan is to make all the main characters playable) and thus more content to toil over 🙃
i suggest making funger 1 its own game and funger 2 another. both are chalk full of content and weird shit (especially termina)
its own video* oops
@@fetordae I agree, but I would also suggest it be treated in part like the faith videos, since while both are beasts in their own right, termina's connections to the first game are too many to be ignored (especially the implications for S endings)
I became a rabid hunger fan after this video came out so now that I'm rewatching it I'm like FEAR AND HUNGER MENTIONED ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
Oh. 😳
...Suddenly Persona 3 makes a bit more sense to me, thank you!
Huh, that explains Morpho Knight...
Mine was probably sonic exe, some other horror stuff but sonic exe was the first to mess me up
tbh even though this game didnt make huge waves, i strongly believe it influenced the current era of horror args and analog horror. its fantastic
mine was mad father, watched pewdiepie play is when I was a kid, was hooked ever since~
My introduction to horror was a Spongebob Saw parody made in MS Paint like 15 years ago, I was like 6 at the time lmao

As a religious scholar, this video had me grinning like an idiot from start to finish. The little details you pulled from both "Big T" and "little t" traditions and Christian mythology made me so dang happy. Without a doubt it was absolutely nessesary! There are HEAVY yet subtle callbacks to The Hex. Im glad you enjoyed! I'm so friggin amped to show my findings!

Also Twin Peaks references!!! Twin Peaks references galore!!!!
I love Rusty lake but that series is so big that would be like a whole month long thing.
Not to mention that after covering Who's Lila we're clearly deep in the trenches of Twin Peaks references in very hyperspecific psychological indie games, lord I'd do ANYTHING
a flaw peacock rusty lake video would be a dream come true
As someone who didn't grow up with much religion, a lot of media drenched in Christian lore has this diffuse edge for me. I 'get' Pony Island, but there's references near the edge of the work that I don't 'get'. Thanks for helping focus the image a smidge!
I'm not christian, but I'd absolutely recommend the bible to you. It is literally the basis of our modern day culture and is enrooted into almost every piece of literature. It is a fascinating read and I'm sure you'd find it quite thought prevoking. While I'm not a christian, much of my personal philosophy comes from this book
@smoothfeen6274 Honestly it isn't a book I can recommend reading cover to cover. It is pretty dry in a lot of places.

Signalis has this incredible ability to brainrot anyone that plays it, I beat it like two months ago and I'm still thinking about it
For the thing at 57:00, this is not just a reference to Missingno. The top part of the graphic is a reference to "Glitch City", a term for an invalid, untraversable map usually found using glitches related to the Safari Zone minigame.
I love when you make realizations and discoveries mid-presentation. It makes me feel so hyped up for like no reason

This is why I watch his videos more than once. The first time at full attention, and the next times for sleep. He really is an amazing storyteller!

The duality of hopeless, soul and Satan is perfectly illustrated by asmodeus
Despite perfectly being an antagonist, He is first placed into his position to further the plot, second specifically willing to play with a protagonist, and lastly, perfectly willing to let them win to further the plot after having played

53:39 GASP IT WAS YOU
I have been WRACKING MY BRAIN where I got the butter curry tip, and it was you!! Thank you!

Anyway this video is fantastic and I can't wait to watch the others when I get the time!!!!

The part with Asmodeus, where a steam "friend" text you was super messed up :D My "friend" is one I actually chat with and I asked him why he typed that shit. We both had a great laugh, but we were so confused. Then I returned to the game and had to start that part over xD

A Flaw Peacock video being less than 5 hours long feels so wrong
Also, thanks so much for the shoutout!
This is exactly what i was looking for in pony Island breakdown everyone else is too low of quality or too short this is the perfect mix of walking through the game step by step while still compacting the entire experience down
"About a third of the angels in heaven raised an eyebrow."
I like Lucifer. He honestly seems like not as bad a guy as you'd think
Listen, boneless chicken is fine, I don't gatekeep. But what you're giving up is the primal pleasure of tearing the bones out of your prey with your own hands and teeth. And in this gray consumerist hellscape you don't get many chances to jump in on the circle of life like that.

Just throwing my theories out there for fun:
The entire game a facade, Theodore doesn't exist as a real human but rather as an in-game player character, similar to the Hex's main cast.

I am so very hyped for the Inscryption video as its a game that I've only ever seen a few bits and pieces of via Markiplier's playthrough and a few well crafted animations and I honestly couldn't think of a better guy to explain it for me
What I'm trying to say is thank you, Flaw Peacock.

P.P.s hope you have a wonderful day
DANIEL MULLINS UNIVERSE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i love inscryption, this game is one of the best for me, beaten it 3 times, and the way hex inscryption and pony island are connected is mesmerising. but seeing YOU making video about something I adore after you made me buy Faith and fall in love with it is priceless
Loved your analysis of the game itself and also your section on literalism vs symbolism with the story of Lucifer! Glad I stumbled on this channel. Can't wait to watch the rest!
imagine being a crusader, thinking youre committing the cruelty of the crusades on behalf of god, and finding out like THIS that you ended up in hell
okay re finished the video and was reminded Theodore isnt really in hell so much as likely some sort of trickery but the concept is still funny
Just found your channel. I was looking for some explanation on inscription and only you and one other had anything. Going through the series now.
Hey dude uh we got a Pony Island 2 on the way
5 bucks says he hid a clue for the ARG in the game awards.
I played Pony Island for the first time yesterday... And I went straight from Hopeless Soul's profile to the cutesy version of Pony Island. No idea how that happened.
Yooo, thanks for calling out Jeck, I feel like the dude is so underappreciated in the community. He's been there since the beginning and has even helped out of ton with moderating the reddit side of the community
when you edited your laugh into the dr.mario theme i spat out my water super hard from the sudden laughing fit i had
keep up the work!
It is absolutely wonderful that so soon after I properly engage with this Daniel Mullins' wonderful body of work I get to see someone just as engaged going through it.
Deeply enjoyable video, looking forward to everything else you're making!
1:06:36 The eye of Ra could also be alluding to the sun, which is "The Morning Star", which is another title for Lucifer.
Excited for this! I've loved your work so far and I'm certain you'll do this series justice.
The mullinsverse is a wild ride. Good luck!
homestuck refrence

Sadly no birb... Oh man I wonder if Jaques is still with us...
“Lucifer gets “ain gee”” my god I love this channel
