Frankie Valli wanted him to join The 4 Seasons, but he turned it down. I don't understand why, but he had charisma and high level talent. May he rest in peace.
Only the lead singer, Randy Safuto, is an original member...The guy in yellow, is not, Mike Zero,,,,I lived around the corner from the Zero brothers in Maspeth...( Mike & Sal) .They were part of a group called The Crowns...my cousin Bob, was the lead singer...Around 1962, he quit to join the air force....they replaced him with the Safuto brothers, & changed their name to Randy & the Rainbows.....the rest is history........
My mom played records for me all the time, building my love for oldies from a young age. My dad played the good ole rock and roll. Wed sit and play records when I was a teenager for hours, she had hundreds of 45's and I would be the get up and change the record girl. This was one of the songs I loved the most. Now my son has a love for records and me and him sat down and I played dozens and dozens of records of my mom's for him. Brought back SO many memories of so many good times.
Since this song includes my name it makes me think of my 11 year old crush; don ; whose parents owned the apartments we lived in by the lagoon in Long Beach! Every time I smell fresh paint I think of how I loved black hair, brown eyed Don. My dad was an electrician who helped his parents; but by then a new extremely posessi boyfriend would not allow me to talk to Don because my step mom was my insane boyfriends sister and I knew if I got caught I would get physically beaten! Therefore I could not even give Don the clue; I was stil really stuck on him!!!That was really HARD!!!!
Wow Denise that was a great story! I spent 12 years of my life as a member of the band but when I was 12 the song came out and I found a girl named Denise. I had a big crush on her and she became my girlfriend. Two weeks later she came to me teary eyed saying her Dad told her she cannot be my girl friend because he claimed she was a cousin of mine because my cousin had married her cousin.... Being 12 we both accepted this and were heart broken.... That was my Denise story because of this song.
@@doctorfeinstone6524 Without any knowledge of who comprised Randy/Rainbows I could see that 2 of these cats onstage were brothers. Absolutely great performance.
@@wescooper3742 I was in from 1980 to 1992. The fight I broke up was in 1990 and I went with Randy on the split because there was indeed some funny business going on with the money and the other two. Again I was will Randy and Frank Safuto. Sad!
@@billpascali5130 too bad as a 13 yr old and loving music the guys were proud to have a group from Maspeth running around Grand Ave I actually sang a tune with Dominick at karaoke in Belmont Steaks Restaurant Still have the picture
I believe that's Vinnie Carella, who was with Mike Zero's Randy & The Rainbows, after the original group had been around for a while and fractioned, for reasons I don't know. I believe the guy singing lead is Dominick "Randy" Safuto, the original lead singer. I think Mike Zero, who was part of the original group is the guy in the yellow suit in this clip. Vinnie passed away in 2012, and Randy, a.k.a. Dominick Safuto, passed away in 2018. There's a clip on here in which Vinnie and Mike are featured, and it's called "Randy & the Rainbows - Denise (Blondie -Denis) The Story Behind The Song" (Blondie did a remake which they called "Denis" (pronounced deh-NEE'), and you can also find a live performance by Randy Safuto's group with Mike Zero joining them on the PBS special which I believe is called "Doo Wop 51". I know there's a clip of just their performance from that special here on RUclips, but I'm not sure if the whole special is still on here too, as it once had been. I STILL love this song, and used to work with a woman named Denise, and I always thought of the song during that time!
Well Jeff you are very wrong, That is Randy Safuto, brother Frank Safuto, and Mike Zero all original members. I don't know who you saw but if it was not those 3 it was not originals.

Never ever gets old to me
Thank you fort GE loop idea and maybe I can figure out how to have 30 min of Denise going non-stop
As a Denise, my mom sang this song to me, when it came out and I was five. All of my siblings names begin with a D. It’s a treasured memory for me!
These oldies make me happy in this troubled world
Me, too!
I've often said I need a 10-20 minute loop of just this song. It will never, ever get old for me.
You are right this could be the all time oldie. It always gives me that special feeling.
Totally agree
I'm there with you! I was 17 when this 45 hit in a big way. I am now almost 78 and I never tire of this song?@@richgenther3519
My one & only criticism of this timeless classic: It's too short. 🙂
Me too. And the in 63 I had a crush on Denise in school. I doubt she knew that. Long brown hair , brown eyes. Not blue
Great Harmonys great memories 🎵🎵🎵🎵
WHERE DID THESE GREAT SONGS GO. WHAT A SHAME THE KIDS OF TODAY DIDNT HAVE THESE SONGS TO GROW UP WITH...
Amen......
The kids of today don’t deserve this music. They got woke and DEI instead
We can still give it to them.
Truly one of the best Doo Wop songs of all time!!!
Randy Safuto. The pride of Maspeth...
I'm 67yrs old still love those doo whoppers
Perfect group also. True Doo Wop song. Lead singer excellent. Randy is fantastic. His backing also fantastic. All Italians are great from N.Y.
Its my song!! Although, I never liked my name, Denise, I go by Dee or Dee Dee I always loved the song!
When music was great those were the best years.
Great uptempo, happy tune. Perfectly performed. Kudos.
One hidden gem of a song
This was a great underappreciated song in all the Doo Wop revivals.
Wow, what a blast from the past.
One of the greatest song ever.
What a perfect song- never get tired of this one !
I play and sing along with this song often. Grew up in Brooklyn back in the day.

Sadly, the group is missing a Rainbow. I thought it was cool that the group wore different color suits to match the colors of a rainbow.

For The people saying these aren’t the originals, do you know who the originals are? This is the best video I’ve ever seen
Yes, Dominic safuto, frank safuto, Mike zero. The lead is definitely Dominic
