- Timber Rattlesnake Hunt 2017. Follow John Royer and friends as they explore the wilds of Pennsylvania during the opening weekend of the Pa Timber Rattlesnake Hunting Season near Benezette Pa. Start of with some native trout fishing then a morning hike to the top of the mountain behind camp. The guys check out an awesome view and also spot two rattlers. Then the guys stop by the Sinnemahoning Sportsman's Club for a bite to eat and to check out the snakes that were brought in. Then the guys head back out hunting and find a bunch of yellow and black phase timber rattlers. The guys takes some pictures then release all the snakes and count the hunt as a success. Enjoy!
How are those elk doing? I remember years ago Utahs DWR traded some of our elk and you guys sent us a whole bunch of turkeys. It was a successful trade for us... We now have over the counter tags and can hunt the entire month of May!
Zeke is thrilled to have made it on video! thanks! good video and good to meet you. keep it up!

Living in Utahs desert region, finding a rattlesnake in timber country is unheard of! Its something I dont even think about. I most certainly will be watching my step if I ever venture east 😉
I know exactly where this is. We have a camp that is less than two miles from this power line. The rocks at the beginning were a giveaway. You guys were walking out toward the sub station. Just wanted to say love your vids
Cameron county?
I believe the guy told me the rocks were possibly called 90 foot drop... It's an awesome view... up there and definitely holds the snakes .... It's not real far from me to go explore... it looks like you guys really have been to some awesome places ... My uncles have a hunting cabin in Kane McKean Co. are there rattlers up there
I simply loved the native trout fishing I been hammering the brookies myself...I got to eat my first rattle snake last year we loved it
what an absolutely beautiful view. the climb was well worth the effort. great video.
Thanks!
Wow that's a hike up that mountain, you guys were into the snakes, nice native trout fishing it's beautiful up there in north central Pennsylvania, great find on the shed antler, Best of luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
Thanks!
Reminds me of East Tennessee. Lots of Rattlesnakes in my area as well. I’ve never hunted them, but I do see Timber Rattlers often at most of our single track dirt bike spots ever summer. Copperheads too. I’m in the Smoky Mtn area about 25 minutes from Gatlinburg.
Hey guys,
Another great video, thanks for that and regards from New Zealand outdoor boys.
Thanks!
Hey guys love the PA rattlesnake videos I was recently up in linn runn state Park and saw my first two rattlesnakes one black phase and one appearing to be a bit of a yellow phase in one day all while I was hiking and trying to see a snake ... So while coming back down from the rocks and guy and his two boys were hunting them invited me along to walk with them while back up where I was is where I saw the two awesome and beautiful creature ...
Thanks! Glad you got to see your first two rattlers! we have hunted snakes there before. well known spots there but you'll at least see snakes.

Nice video. We have been to many of the hunts at the Sinnemahoning Sportsman's Club. We didn't make it this year, but thanks for the video. We rally enjoyed watching.
Thanks!
Lovely Appalachia!! Thanks for sharing!
Rankin's Roost here! I wanted to go up but had other plans by the time I realized the snake hunt was going on. Looks like it was a good yet. We've seen a ton on snakes at our place this year and last year. And that Fred's Woods trail hunt is fun
Hi! Yeah, there are snakes everywhere. It's easy finding them up in that area if you know where to look. I'd say you'd see a good deal there at your place.
Patrick Rankin not too far from you guys at rankins roost down by mason hill
I KNEW I heard of Rankin Roost somewhere....We sneak over Mason Hill to get to Sterling Run to fish the West Branch
Oh ya I'm sending in for my permit.. always have wanted to hunt rattlers I've been to wolfes rocks I go there to heard it's loaded those same guys I talked to told me they I believe recently found a bunch there.. I believe their probably at beams rocks too I'd love to go hunting with you guys... Ive always loved snakes you really feel the passion for the animals seeing them in their environment...
Years ago we would climb to top of mountains right below g.b.stevensons dam then when we got older we would drop off car at bottom then drive to top n work our way down! Lmao Beautiful country up there! Alot of great memories up there!
Do you happen to take them anywhere so that their venom could be milked for antivenom production? +Leatherwood Outdoors
Man, that looks fun. We go to see the elk. Never been up to the round up. Might have to put it on to do list.
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
You guyz are at te top of the mountain. Houston hill?
God I miss the good old days of the hunts.
Here in Ohio, we think you guys are f'ing nuts! Good for you, though. The hiking looks awesome.
In Virginia, timber rattlers are an endangered species. Up in Shenandoah Nat Park you will occasionally run across one on a trail. Not enough of them to do regulated hunts. Their habitat is constantly being encroached.
How far from sinnemohoning is that is it towards Wharton heard of that look out from people
this lookout is actually on private property. there are many lookouts in the area though but maybe you are thinking of the lookouts on ridge road that are public?
When growing up in Warren Co we had a friend that hunted snakes and kept them in an old washing machine...before you had to get a lisence! Good eating!
Do you do all Of this on public or private land.
Both
What's the stream? looks like Bell Draft
What kind of camera do you use?
Takes me back. Those fish are tough...

The way that kid held his rod😭😭
Matt Del that is because they are flatlanders! Born in raised in this country. Nobody in that part of PA talks like that or holds a rod like that! Lol
sei un grande...
ankio vorrei venire con te ma vivo in italia...
Fellas, love the channel, been watching a long time. Your expertise in all things field and stream far surpasses most, certainly mine. But PLEASE, for the sake of the native brookies...wet your hands well before handling. Thanks.
No
Dang I was hoping to see you guys at the club Saturday. You were probably out hunting. Great video. I was looking forward to watching it.
Have you guys ever got one full mounted? If so whats best way to kill it?
One of the guys got his in a full mount. I believe he froze it in the freezer.

i stop petting my dog.i seen hair falling out.if i keep petting him he could lose all his hair and freeze to death.and i am so sorry for all the thousands of trout i have destroyed in my life time. you can.t fix stupid.unless we send them all to califony
Cheeseburger birds are out!
I know it's legal, and I recognize you are only participating in a regulated hunt. I'm not convinced that timber rattlesnakes, that have such a slow maturation rate, "should" be harvested. Unlike rodents or deer, you never will see overpopulation of rattlesnakes. High snake populations are determined by multiple years of high populations of rodents. When you remove the snakes, you remove the best control of rodent overpopulation.
I guess I'm encouraging folks to just hunt prey whose predators we humans already killed off. Besides, you can make a lot more leather and have a lot more meat from 1 deer than the snakes you're harvesting.
Hi
The way he holds that rod is cringe worthy.
I still hate snakes and nothing will change my views
Love your vids; but ya need to wet your hands before handling them trout.
I hate snakes for killing my favourite dogs so I hate those bloody slithering bastards more than any creature in the animal kingdom.
for being such an Outdoorsman I'm surprised you're grabbing those trout without wetting your hands. You're really damaging their skin and possibly killing them. Please get educated and wet your hands before picking them up
keving91982 it surprised me that he was holding the damn fishing rod upside down😂
keving91982 how bout you stop being a know it all then we'll talk
