    This was a very insightful video. I like that you always look at things from both sides, and even give credit to the criminal’s behavior when it’s due. (talents, having a soul, etc.) not all creators do this. I appreciate your point of view. Thanks for a great video 🤍

    Very thoughtful video. There is no doubt that he is very talented musically and gifted at speaking to large crowds…but that does not make him a good man. I think a big part of the problem for the way the world is today, is that we make excuses for people’s behavior…All. The. Time! It’s just the enlightened thing to do. We can psychoanalyze to the point of taking away any responsibility someone has for their actions, and blame it on childhood trauma, insecurity, immaturity, brain chemistry, dementia, neighborhood bullies, or heck, maybe even the weather or their third cousin! And yet, this does not give them the right to treat another human being so despicably…to the point that they feel it’s necessary to take their life. There are SO many things that JP did to Mica, that he had no right to do. JP is a pathological liar…he does not know what truth is. He makes a statement or sends a text one week, then completely contradicts himself a week or two later. To him, if he was brutally honest, and that will never happen, the church is one big ATM, in fact, he had a money machine installed in the foyer of the church that Tricia Ross did a skit onstage about. If you want to join the church, you have “Pizza with the Pastor”, where you sit down with JP and discuss your finances. WTH!! The church also feeds his giant pit of insecurity with adoration and loyalty. What could be a better career for this self centered, attention seeking baby. His church knows he has a sex addiction…he has to have three members present if he meets with someone, “church rules”. They asked him to get help, he said he would, he didn’t, and he told them they could not tell him what to do. He owns the church and the property…end of discussion. He has no character or integrity or morals…and clearly no empathy. And the most disgusting thing about him is…he uses God.

    I think many in the Pentecostal movement (I’ve been a part of these types of churches for years with one foot on the outside) is that they seek, and get ‘addicted to’, emotional stimulation. That can be in the form of power over people, what FEELS like the power of the Holy Spirit, or perhaps other forms of stimuli that will keep that feeling going. Sadly, what at times could very well be the moving of the Holy Spirit, becomes something more, something man made, and something that turns into a craving. Often in some of these churches, if there isn’t a felt sense of the move of the Holy Spirit, the pastor will feel he needs to stir up emotions in another way. I think many of these leaders are addicted to the ‘high’ feelings and go elsewhere to get that. If they aren’t walking in constant humility before God and humility and accountability before people, they may seek to fill this craving in other sinful ways. So, so sad. And even more sad are the people who prop them up and continue to feed their ego.

      really appreciate that. :-) Obviously, JP is accountable for some very serious mistreatment of Mica (a much younger person), and being very dishonest to his congregation about their situation around her death. But he has a soul, and we have to learn from these situations. Something that really occurs to me, as a learning point, is that when we're coming out of addictions and toxic living, the recovery is very gradual. So, when we're coming out of that world and trying to build a church, that's ok, of course, but maybe they should limit the church to people in recovery, and maybe not invite regular families with teenage daughters... or at least have better boundaries w young people. I actually think it would be very good to have "recovery" churches for people coming our of addictions or even prison. I just feel like Mica was in a really toxic environment at that church. It's nobody's fault in a way... coming out of addictions, the recovery process is very slow, and sometimes people (like JP) don't really recover in all areas. So, looking at this case, I hope we can respect everyone's soul, but at the same time get realistic about what realworld recovery looks like. That might help us be smarter in the future when people in recovery want to start churches.

    I appreciate your view and find it refreshing as I have followed this case from the beginning.
    Some things that I would like to add:
    -in my experience, when there is trauma in someone's background, a part of them is stuck at that age. JP's ex wife has stated that he was abused by his father in several ways as a boy, which would help explain his immaturity.
    -As one who has been in these circles for 4 decades, including being in ministry--the tragic thing that too often happens, is the charisma and gifting of someone overshadows their immaturity and need of character building. That communicates what they "do" is more important than who they are. Putting ministry on a pedestal and form of idolatry before the person or even the people who will be affected by this person.
    -Another issue, is that most of the "church" is still operating out of old covenant mentality where if someone messes up, even just a little bit, they're going to hell. There often isn't a safe place for them to be real and receive all that they do need. Thus, the secret life, lying, shame, etc. I do believe many have a true gift and desire to represent Christ, but the side that needs wholeness isn't allowed to come forth. On the other side, there is a sloppy grace where "restoration" when a leader falls, means taking time out before being put back up on the stage. This modern American way of "Christianity' is sadly so far away from what Christ modeled. He never even called anyone a "Christian", that was a pagan term used for his followers.
    I greatly desire for the Resurrection Realities of the New Covenant to shine forth, allowing us to embrace our true new creation selves which is no longer sin conscious, but Christ conscious. If he truly dealt with sin--why do we continue to focus so much on it instead of our new creation, and that the old has passed away through him? I believe it is the focus on sin which keeps us bound. What if we were to just focus on Christ from an intimate relationship with him, instead of more rules and regulations that he died to fulfill?

    • @pdquestions7673
      @pdquestions7673  Месяц назад

      Appreciate this comment. I guess my reaction is (1) I think the "Divine" is more mysterious than we often make it seem w all our bible knowledge. I think it's great to know the bible up and down, but we should still understand that the actual realities of God (Son & Holy Spirit) are still very mysterious. We can't fall into feeling that, with our mastery of the bible, we somehow have the realities of the Divine all mapped out and charted as though it were a fine-grained property survey. And (2) the miracles of Pentecost can be interpreted as part of a special time when Christ was recently departed, so still leaving like an afterglow of his presence on earth. The fact that the strong afterglow has subsided does NOT mean the spirit isn't still present, but we can just understand the Pentecostal period as a time of specially intense afterglow of Christ's recent departure. So we shouldn't necessary expect such an intense "spirit temperature" so to speak, until he starts to return. (just one way of interpreting the matter). In the meantime, the spirit is still present, but maybe in a fainter / more subtle form. So that still leaves room for Holy Spirit baptism, in theory, but maybe we should be realistic about the temperature or loudness of the spirit & not carry expectations (at least for now) of such a hot / loud spirit intensity like the early Christians experienced in the original Pentecost.
      Just things that occur to me as I try to understand Acts.

    • @pdquestions7673
      @pdquestions7673  Месяц назад

      that could be true... but, let's think about it. JP knew (and his congregation didn't know) that they had started a divorce proceeding a month earlier, then dismissed it to try to reconcile, and then, just 2 days before Mica died, JP had been served with new separation paperwork. So JP knew that it would look terrible if Mica ended up unaliving herself right after serving JP. And JP knew they had been fighting terribly, so that makes him look bad. And JP knew, in his heart, that he had driven her to feel hopeless and depleted. So that gives him a LOT of motivation to start managing his image and spinning the situation to look like the marriage was ok but Mica had "mental problems." He knew privately that he had crushed and depleted her, and so he desperately had to spin the situation so that he looked like the good / healthy husband & Mica looked like the mental case. I think he was just in desperate damage control, because he knew how bad it was... and his congregation still didn't know all of the details, so he was trying to get ahead of the story. Terribly selfish, but it doesn't mean he directly killed her. He did enough by desecrating her and depleting her over years, foreseeably leading her to feel empty and broken... so he knew he was responsible for that.

      I think the label of "depression" or "bipolar" is too superficial. Lots of things can lead us to a manic-depressive or depressive state. It can be spontaneous and organic, but it can also be a bad reaction to drugs or stress, or - often - it can be a sign of emotional depletion. To be honest, I think the world of psychology is very ideological and full of clumsy categories and blunt labels.

      absolutely, totally agree. I will still try to study his background, just because that's where I'm going w the deep dive. Always, with these cases, we want to learn as much as possible. For example, the more we learn about Solid Rock, the more it seems clear that families w teenage kids should probably avoid churches with a lot of former addicts or people in "recovery." And people who want to start "recovery" churches (for people with addictions / criminal history) should probably avoid trying to attract families and children / teenagers.

      I feel disgusted by what he did, because I think he desecrated and depleted her, and left her in a position to decompensate into mental crisis. When you mention guilt, we have to wonder if, at some level, JP feels guilty. For that to be true, he'd have to accept what he's done, and I don't know if he's ready or able to do that yet.

      I know... even Carl Lentz isn't that cringe, but we still have to look into his life & culture and try to understand him. In the end, my only goal is learning from these cases. Maybe in the future, when former addicts and "badboys" want to start a new church, they should limit it to a "recovery" church (w limited congregations) and not be attracting innocent families w teenage daughters.

      @pdquestions7673 I use to occasionally listen to Carl-11 years ago. He came to my old church here in Montana. For me-Carl wasn't hard to listen to the way JP is. I struggle through it. I cringe. Both I believe both enjoy the stage but John Pauls squeaky voiced, attention seeking arrogance is on a whole different level. He is an intelligent man with the emotional maturity of a child. It has been stated in court documents by his ex wife Allison that his father molested him when he was a boy. I dont think JP ever matured past the age of when those crimes took place.

    • @pdquestions7673
      @pdquestions7673  Месяц назад

      That sounds about right. And I also think the atmosphere of charismatic / pentecostal Christianity may have been a bad match for someone with that kind of troubled background. I think it's fair to say that JP isn't just immature. I think he's grossly immature, which is very serious & dangerous when combined with his superficial cleverness and talents. I think he's a very troubled person and probably, frankly, at some risk of harming himself.

    You had me then you lost me. John Paul Miller may be extroverted and (somewhat) charismatic, but generally that’s most of the pastors I’ve ever come in contact with, and while it’s not a requirement, it’s the t”personality type that fits the job description. And while JP BLATANTLY displays narcissistic traits and clearly loves the sound of his own voice and seems to love the attention and reverence that comes from being a Pastor, especially from what once was a decent size church, I wouldn’t categorize him as a “charismata” nor is his denomination Pentecostal in declaration & not in character. I think you are generalizing the religion of Pentecostal with a type of characteristics rather than an ideology…..
    And let’s not forget, Lucifer was the angel of music.

    • @pdquestions7673

      I just think it's important to understand JP, in part, as having some affinity for charismatic Christianity, even if he's not exactly Assemblies of God or whatever. I also note his friendship with Word of Faith pastor Jesse Duplantis... again, not so far from the Pentecostal branch of 20th-21st century christianity. I'm not trying to be too precise about that, but I think it gives us a rough neighborhood of context to understand JP...

    I think part of the story is missing here. JP met her when he was married and she was 14. He groomed her. She was a child when he encouraged her and tried to shape her. I don’t think she was a magnet for trouble. I respectfully disagree with you.

    • @pdquestions7673
      @pdquestions7673  Месяц назад

      this is Part 1... don't recall saying "magnet"... no focus on the relationship yet. I wanted to start with the Religious Context. Later, once the foundation is laid on the religious context and the forming of the church, it will then make sense to introduce how Mica found the church as a teenager. At that point, we can really deepdive into how they got to know each other, and how their relationship evolved. This was just part 1, and I felt it was important to start w the religious context, because I think the Pentecostal context is relevant to some of JP's issues & how this relationship got started and evolved.

    • @pdquestions7673
      @pdquestions7673  Месяц назад

      wait, I think i understand what you mean. I was talking about other pentecostal-type extroverted charismatic preachers who ended up sort of attracted to scandal. I'm not saying Mica herself was a magnet. I'm trying to suggest that the edgy bodily "holy spirit" reality of Charismatic Christianity can (for addictive people) drive them to always be seeking the "edge" in everything. This may be a component of how JP was driven to see prostitutes, and also to drive Mica to use steroids... like driving everything to the edge. It's not that Mica was a magnet, but rather that JP felt driven to live life on the dangerous edge (which would have the effect of depleting people close to him). That's the only reference to magnet that I mentioned (as I recall).
