I wanted to say what a great job you do making your videos. Clearly you go to alot of trouble to make great shots. The one thing I like the most is you talk constantly giving great information about the trails and equipment your using with few dead spots. Your very good at this so keep it up and I love your dog in the videos.
Hello my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. It is good to see you and Denali out on the trail once again. You are certainly well organized. The very best to you, your wife and Denali. Take care and be safe. 🤗
Hey Shaun ( spelling?) I hike with my dog Gus ( hikingwithgus.com) all the time and he also packs most of his own stuff. One thing I found is if you attach the leash to the d-ring on the packs it won't run under their legs. To be honest Gus is off leash most of the time anyway, but when he is leashed up the d-ring works great. Looks like the pouches are still working out for you! Great video, looking forward to see more...... hit me up if and when you make it to Washington state.
my boy SINTAX...i enjoy your videos more and more after all these years....the weather for us TRI STATE area folk is turning pretty sweet...slowly but surely..
I know this hike of yours at HalfMoon Mountain with Denali (ironic considering I live in Alaska by Denali, also known as Mount McKinley) was a long time ago 2019 I think, and the date of my comments right now is May 24th 2024 but I want you to know you're hilarious. The love listening to you talk. The things you say are things I would say. For instance you were talking about your water Sawyer micro and you said "let's disconnect this" with a funny accent, something I would do, cracked me up! And you even said "I don't know why I'm talking in an accident". You didn't even laugh but I sure did lol & giggling as I'm typing this. I love your videos I love your instructions I love the views you show. I love when you're walking you show whats around you, not just in front of you even though the front views are cool too but a lot of people don't show what's around them when they're walking. I used to have a video camera in my hand 24/7 and I talked all the time too. I know why you yourself are doing it, but I just did it because I'm me and loved it. I believe I was meant to be born to live outside and I think you were too. I was introduced to you when watching Kylehateshiking (he's funny too) back in March 2024 before I knew anything about RUclips hiking stuff. I didn't watch a lot of RUclips up until then. Maybe just music. But I'm glad I found you guys. I live vicariously through you guys (Kyle is funny too), because I'm on disability now and can't do anything you're doing anymore or anymore of my subsistence lifestyle in Alaska. Bummer because I have caribou and moose and other critters pretty much every day in my front and back yard and I can't eat them from my yard where I'm at right now because it's not legal but at least I get to watch them and I love to do that.✌️
Welcome back to the south Sintax77. I hope your visits are always worth the effort. I would love to see you and some friends do a kayaking trip down at Big South Fork. You really missed a lot of things down there. Think about it.
Sintax77 I want to say that the Drone Video you put in your video was Amazing I think it brings a better prospective for the sky of your surrounding an made this video Great 5 Stars all the way!!! Keep up the great work also love the touch of Love with your dog woow was great to see that he love traveling with you . Again great work in sharing your experience with the World Peace Out !! PS Keep the Drone Shot Coming
Ok - Nali chewing on a stick while you explain water safety was hilarious Another fine video - you have some great editing skills (and I'm a professional), keep it up! PS - Denali made this vid so enjoyable, my fav so far! Handsome boy!
Your mention of your battlefield hike made me think, what a cool idea for a Halloween video! A "haunted battlefield" hike! I find it funny that you made the comment that you thought your campsite might be haunted... Loved the video! Stunning drone visuals!
Thanks for sharing! I'm not a high mileage backpacker and most of my favorite spots to go are the lesser known trails. It's nice to find new spots and given my terrible sense of direction, the GPS data is a gift!
Did this as an out and back along the half moon mountain trail last summer with my 6yo son. Stayed up top, and yes, our tent barely fit and we were sleeping on some rocks. Anyway, thanks for the memories.
Definitely pink blaze. Loved comin' along on your hike with your dog and he seemed to do very well. Glad you found your cap, suppose the wind could have blown it.

Great video. Your chatting throughout the video makes it feel like we are there with you and are old hiking buddies. Fantastic. Quality of your videos is top drawer. And the love between you and Denali is just beautiful. Great video. Totally enjoyed it
Another great video by Sintax! I'm always changing what my favorite trip format is - but right now its the Sintax / Denali duo! I've done every outdoor activity with my chocolate lab, except backpacking. And it took a solid two years for me to be confident to hike or run in the woods without a leash. Keep using voice commands even when he's on the leash and you'll soon be able to free up your hands. Because all I kept thinking was, "Geez, he's got the leash in one hand and camera in the other!". Thank you!!
Awesome! Been looking for a new place in West Virginia to go. Ill have to check this out as I typically go to north fork or dolly sods. Thank you for sharing, looks like a cool area!
Hi, Shawn 👍🏻👍🏻 Awesome !!! I’m so glad to see you and Denali having a great time hiking and tent camping in the great outdoors. I was wondering when you were going to upload another hiking adventure 👍🏻 I always look forward to seeing your hiking adventure videos. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and have a Great Friday !!! Danny
Great video.. You guys are killin me with your no snow hikes lol. Watched a couple yesterday in Kentucky they had no snow its taking forever to go away up north here in mich. Soon anyways. Great views for sure.
That video was awesome great views nice camping spot nice to see danali great weather a little snow on that high ridge but other then that all went well i will have to try to find that bear creek mac n cheese ive tryed others of their products those were good to you will have to take your wife and danali back there or a group camp good food and views be safe
Really enjoy watching your videos, i’ve never been camping or much less hiking. Def want to do it, every time i see you make it to a summit, i keep wishing i was there with a QRP ham radio doing some Summit On The Air operations. You’d prob be able to reach the entire world from those areas. Anyway, love the videos.
Which Garmin are you using? I have a Beagle I plan to introduce to hiking. :-) Ruffwear makes a great harness. I think the one I have is called a master harness. If other aggressive dogs come around I can pick my dog up real fast to get him out of danger. 👍👍 The dog backpack you have has a handle on it similar to our Ruffwear harness.
Thanks for all your great videos! I have learned a lot! I wonder what I should think about before taking my furry friend Bella a bernese mountain dog tenting? I have trained her to spend time in the tent with me ( not using my expensive sleeping gear) and she really loves the 4 person tent so it is roomy for the two of us. My main concern is that her claws will damage/destroy my tent floor, (air) sleeping pad & down sleeping bag. I don't think she would let socks stay on during a whole night.. Any suggestions on how to keep my sleepingsystem whole? Have Denali ever ripped any of your gear?
I've eaten bear creek soups and other products. And let me say this, for$1.00 from biglots they a a great meal. I love how you're dog watches everything going on around him. I guess he answered my earlier question about is he protective of you while backpacking
Great video! m going to have to check out that trail. I camp at Trout Pond, and hike a few trails just a couple clicks from where you were. Love the drone footage too!
You still have my favorite backpacking channel to watch! I'll be backpacking solo next month just over 200 miles on the Superior Hiking Trail. This will be a challenging long distance spring hike with some extremely wet areas, but this will be my only chance to get 2 weeks off. They still have 2 feet of snow on the north end, but it should be gone when I start. Also I will have 2 mail drops for food and maybe an extra powerbank for filming. You are welcome to come and join me for this adventure! 😂
That's awesome, man. Congrats on putting together the time and planning for a long distance hike like that. Sounds like a good time! I just got back from a quick 3 day trip down in the Cranberry Wilderness. It was a blast, bit nothing compared to 2 weeks, haha. Maybe some day I'll have to take the plunge with something long-term like that, though.
Bear creek makes some awesome backpacking foods!!! I love the Broccoli and cheese soup 🍜!!! Awesome vid sintax77!!! I plan on camping this weekend with the Amok Xl it going to be awesome!!!
This looked like the perfect place to go camping with Denali. Another very good Sintax video! It also looks like your using 2 cameras and the drone. I'm still using my old Sony handycam! 😬
Thanks, Wally. It was a nice change of pace, and I think Denali really liked having a little cave for the two of us. From his perspective, at least. :D
I don’t think we would be any competition but a video on your video production process would be awesome. I would love to start filming what I am hiking in the Whites.
Hey Sintax. New subscriber here. And I see you are from Delaware! Same here my friend. Probably have seen you out and about. Love the outdoors and starting to hike more. Any good routes around this area?
A friend and I camped not to far from the Trout pond rec area 16 yrs ago on a ridge top in early June. The first night it rained all night and the next day it snowed.
To track temperature and humidity you should try a SensorPush. It tracks temp and humidity and you can send it via Bluetooth to your phone. Hold about 20 days of data.
Never spent a night in the woods in my life but you make it look so enjoyable im convinced that i will take the plunge and try it out this summer. A hike with your dog looks great. Any worries about ticks? I live in Connecticut if that helps. Great video and thanks for taking us with you.
I've definitely seen some heavy tick activity during the summer (to the point where you could see them clearly meandering in the grass) but in my experience, I've only encountered them to that extent in the south - VA, WV, NC, etc. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I've never had any real issues north of the PA line. That's not to say they aren't a threat, but the population seems to be much less prevalent up there. Spray down with some deet around the ankles, waistline, and head, and do a spot check before bed and you should be just fine. Also, if you've never been backpacking before, and can swing it schedule-wise, I would highly suggest early fall or at least late summer. Less crowds, less bugs, and nice temps ;)
TRAIL LOOKED REALLY NICE .THE SCENERY WAS BEAUTIFUL HOPEFULLY YOU & LITTLE ONE DIDN'T FIND ANY TICKS WHEN YOU GOT HOME / jeep ? DID YOU HEAR ANY SPRING PEEPERS DURING THE HIKE ? WHAT DO YOU USE FOR THE TICKS FOR LITTLE ONE ? THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TAG ALONG WITH YOU BOTH . BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS! ENJOYED!
The tree at 13:32 is the tree Lisa badly shattered her arm crossing over 3 years ago. Tree was higher off the ground then and she fell crossing over the tree when her pack shifted. Had to self rescue and get to ER hospital one hour away. Now has titanium plate in her arm and where she earned trail name “bone crusher”. Great to see you in our old stomping grounds!
Hey, I recognize you! I read your review on Hiking Upward's post while researching the trip. Sorry to hear about that accident. Glad to hear she's doing better now though. At least she got a badass nickname out of it ;)
Haha, that's true! One other quick story: we were really intrigued when your hat went missing and you joked about a possible ghost at that site. We had a similar odd experience. When we finally went back to HMM and completed the loop 2 years ago we stayed at that same spot that you did. During the middle of the night Lisa (Bone Crusher) SWORE someone (or something) was outside our tent about 2 in the morning and woke me up in a terror. To this day i've never seen her that scared. We've done dozens of backpacking trips and that's never happened. She's not one to scare easily and is not one to freak out over a little noise or wind. Anyway, i did a check of the camp and found nothing and didn't sleep much after that. Probably nothing but we definitely took notice when you mentioned the missing hat. It just felt sort of creepy there.
What is the brand of the thermometer that you use? Great hike and thanks as always for sharing with us. Really like the drone prospective of the landscape.
Thanks for testing out the leash; it looks like it might have been more helpful to you if it was longer? You also seem to like the shock-cord feature on your other leash. I cant really do that when i hand make them, but it is something to think about. Great video!
Thanks! Yes, the leash is awesome :) The shock lead seems to add a little advance notice for him to slow down before he gets too far ahead. When I get to camp or a long-term break spot, I can quickly switch it over to "regular mode" and we're good to go. :)
Hi Sintax77, just did that hike about 3 weeks ago, with my buddy. Stayed overnite at the top. Took us until 1 pm to get off the top was a beautiful and sunny day, plus we drank a bit to much morning and afternoon. I always enjoy your vids, keep it coming. Trail name 1/4 mile why? when they ask how long its always a 1/4 mile to go. Hike leader for meetup group DC-HBC. Happy Trails
Hi Shawn... Is there bear activity in that area this time of year? If so, what's your advice on that? I'll be backpacking for a few days next month on the AT in Massachusetts. Thanks.
I didn't notice any sign when I went. Mostly deer activity, but I'm sure they have some black bears throughout the year. Mass has some black bears too, but I doubt it will be a major issue for you. Just make sure to use a bear bag, cook carefully, etc and you should be good to go. Enjoy the hike!
Thanks, Shawn. From what I read, it's highly unlikely to be a problem. On the other hand, there's this: www.masslive.com/news/2019/04/small-horse-killed-dragged-from-stall-by-black-bear-in-hinsdale-officials-suspect.html. The comments on the news item are interesting.
Nope. It was already heated in the can as part of the canning process, so if it was gonna hurt me, I think that ship already sailed, haha. I've looked into the whole BPA thing over the years. The drive to the trailhead scares me a heck of a lot more than a couple cans of campfire chili a year ;)
I wanted to say what a great job you do making your videos. Clearly you go to alot of trouble to make great shots. The one thing I like the most is you talk constantly giving great information about the trails and equipment your using with few dead spots. A tent?! Nice to see you sleeping down on the ground with the rest of us animals :-) thanks for the vid buddy.
Hello my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. It is good to see you and Denali out on the trail once again. You are certainly well organized. The very best to you, your wife and Denali. Take care and be safe. 🤗
Thanks, Ronald!
that dog is just like, "who the hell are you talking to" he looks concerned.
Only the OG subscribers will remember the abandon turnpike video with mike where y’all ate hormel chili next to fire lol
Collin Bator loved that video.
I go back and rewatch that video sometimes
Love the dog hikes . She is a lucky girl. Notice you feed and water her first. Says a lot about your character !
Only hour+ hiking videos I can actually watch! Always good info and editing

Oh how good it was to receive yet another Sintax 77 feature length video notification!! 😊🙏🏻
Nothing beats woods in spring before leaves come out!!!!
I definitely got some better views up there than I would have in the summer, that's for sure :)
my boy SINTAX...i enjoy your videos more and more after all these years....the weather for us TRI STATE area folk is turning pretty sweet...slowly but surely..

It cracked me up when you are talking about sterilizing your water & Denali is in the front of you eating sticks. Great video Shawn!
I watch a guy that goes by Louisiana Hikes and came across yours which I'm glad because I enjoyed your hike, my first one I watch.
Subbed👍
Great video! was especially happy to see that you're another pittie lover. Denali looks to be a great companion. I hope to see more of him!
Ok - Nali chewing on a stick while you explain water safety was hilarious
Another fine video - you have some great editing skills (and I'm a professional), keep it up!
PS - Denali made this vid so enjoyable, my fav so far! Handsome boy!
He did so well. Good dog! Especially for a first time. Well behaved too.
He looks just like my old dog...good hike my man..thanks for sharing
Your mention of your battlefield hike made me think, what a cool idea for a Halloween video! A "haunted battlefield" hike! I find it funny that you made the comment that you thought your campsite might be haunted... Loved the video! Stunning drone visuals!
Denali doesn’t look like he”s sure about this camping thing but he’s happy he’s with you!
Always love your videos, this one is no exception. The addition of Denali is awesome, he cracks me up
Thanks for sharing! I'm not a high mileage backpacker and most of my favorite spots to go are the lesser known trails. It's nice to find new spots and given my terrible sense of direction, the GPS data is a gift!
Another great backpacking video. Been watching as I build up my own channel.
Love love love your pup!
Did this as an out and back along the half moon mountain trail last summer with my 6yo son. Stayed up top, and yes, our tent barely fit and we were sleeping on some rocks. Anyway, thanks for the memories.
Im glad u said that about the water, for some reason i always thought u had to boil it for 10 min,😂😂😂😂
Definitely pink blaze. Loved comin' along on your hike with your dog and he seemed to do very well. Glad you found your cap, suppose the wind could have blown it.
Thanks for sharing. The drone shots were amazing.
My pleasure. Thanks, Preston.
sintax77 anytime.
I saw the title and was curious if it was the area where my cabin is. Thats great that you have made it out to this area. Lots of great options. My cabin is like 50 feet from the GW Forest. We do a small little bushwhack and were on a trail. Now im gonna watch the video and see how you did. :D
Another awesome classic sintax 77 trip thank you for taking us a long
Yes, thanks for the tent video. Looks like a great trip! Somebody got a drone ! Spectacular footage !!
I used love to take my dog camping as well. Miss her. Good video.
I sold all my freestanding tents a while back but now I am seriously considering that Dominion 1p for trips onto Utah Slickrock. I don't feel like the hassle of a trekking pole tent in a place like Canyonlands. And after looking at all the budget options on Amazon this one is by far the best, but still much cheaper than anything in the sub 3lb range sold by the likes of REI... You're pretty much the only person who's done a video at all on it so far, so I appreciate it informing my decision.
Great video. Your chatting throughout the video makes it feel like we are there with you and are old hiking buddies. Fantastic. Quality of your videos is top drawer. And the love between you and Denali is just beautiful. Great video. Totally enjoyed it
Thanks, Jan!
Wonderful! I love all your videos - almost like being there myself.
sintax out pink blazing :P great vid

he's loving the woods xD
Hi, Shawn 👍🏻👍🏻 Awesome !!! I’m so glad to see you and Denali having a great time hiking and tent camping in the great outdoors. I was wondering when you were going to upload another hiking adventure 👍🏻 I always look forward to seeing your hiking adventure videos. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and have a Great Friday !!! Danny
Thanks, Danny. Glad you enjoyed it. We had a blast out there. Great little area, and relatively close to home.
nice edit with music and drone footage... we see you stepping it up. Bravo!
Great video.. You guys are killin me with your no snow hikes lol. Watched a couple yesterday in Kentucky they had no snow its taking forever to go away up north here in mich. Soon anyways. Great views for sure.

@@sintax77 Nice! I really liked your first Cranberry Wilderness trip video and I'm looking forward to this one :)
Awesome little hike not far from where I live over near Woodstock in VA. Thanks for sharing!
I have the exact same dog as you but a female and she's smaller I love watching him chew on that stick I wish mine did stuff like that lol
As always thank you for including us on your many adventures, great editing and overhead views looking forward to the next one
Thanks, Kevin. Happy to have you along.
Nice trip and a nice video! You really keep the videos interesting.
Great spot hope you and the dog enjoy your burgers 🍔
Bear creek makes some awesome backpacking foods!!! I love the Broccoli and cheese soup 🍜!!! Awesome vid sintax77!!! I plan on camping this weekend with the Amok Xl it going to be awesome!!!
Just did a similar hike! Have you ever done the full trout run circumnavigation? Might do that next time
Really great video. Thanks so much.
Cute dog
Good to see you back out on the trail, your partner did great. 👍🍔🍺
Yup, he earned his burger, for sure :)
I like the hammock you have
This looked like the perfect place to go camping with Denali. Another very good Sintax video! It also looks like your using 2 cameras and the drone. I'm still using my old Sony handycam! 😬
Nothing wrong with that. Those little Sony handcam's get the job done :D
Tent! I'm super surprised! Once I went hammock I can't even think about my tent! Great video!
Allways bring ur dog.mans best friend
Love the loop...of loop. Very clever.
another great vid...a nice change o pace switching it up with a tent!
Thanks, Wally. It was a nice change of pace, and I think Denali really liked having a little cave for the two of us. From his perspective, at least. :D
Nice trip. I think I've been right next to Halfmoon- done Wolf Gap, Big Schloss and Tibett Knob a couple times.
This is awesome just wrapped a trip up in this same area!
I don’t think we would be any competition but a video on your video production process would be awesome. I would love to start filming what I am hiking in the Whites.
Well done on a super video. Top notch. I like sharing the maps and location.
I like all the videos but I would like to see more of the cooking parts keep it up.
Nice push in the video during the tent setup. 👌
BEAR CREEK is from Utah area? @sintax77 46:45 it does take a long time but they do have the best "darn good" chili in that same bag as well.
I will have to watch it later when I get home darn it
But for right now I will give you two thumbs up can't wait to watch it at home
Haha, thanks!
Great camera work around the 14 min mark. Enjoyed the video!
Hey Sintax. New subscriber here. And I see you are from Delaware! Same here my friend. Probably have seen you out and about. Love the outdoors and starting to hike more. Any good routes around this area?

Nice area and the meal looked good. Take care, Al
A friend and I camped not to far from the Trout pond rec area 16 yrs ago on a ridge top in early June. The first night it rained all night and the next day it snowed.

Nice drone footage! As always, your editing is fantastic.
1 gallon of water weighs 8 lbs at 77F. Colder temps it would weigh more. probably 8.25 at your temps.
I drink straight from a steep hill creek when I hike. mouth to the flowing water. Never a problem.
Not sure if someone else already answered this but, Walmart sells Bear Creek. I've used some of their soups hiking. They actually taste pretty decent.
I see a lot of videos with hikers and their dogs. With the dog having shoes. How's your dogs paws
BTW next time your in Wardensville go down to the chicken place aka: Star Mercantile. Great food!!!
I'll have to keep that in mind for a future trip. Good looking out :) Sounds like you had a fun trip on Halfmoon as well. It's a great little spot.
Looks more like a fancy tarp than a tent. Tents are enclosed with a bottom.
Awesome real syntax 77 videos
Dude your dog is awesome I just love your dog to death is beautiful
Watching your vid and noticed you heated your chili in the can, are you worried about BPA lining in the can ???
Nope. It was already heated in the can as part of the canning process, so if it was gonna hurt me, I think that ship already sailed, haha. I've looked into the whole BPA thing over the years. The drive to the trailhead scares me a heck of a lot more than a couple cans of campfire chili a year ;)
@@sintax77 ty I was just curious some people I petrified of heating things in cans over the campfire lol
